Maryam Sanda, the woman who killed her husband last year, organized a birthday party for her daughter one day after she was granted bail by a High Court in the Federal Capital Territory.

Maryam was sent to prison after she stabbed her husband Bilyamin Bello to death last November. She was granted bail on Wednesday, March 7 based on medical reports which indicate she is pregnant and ill.

The day after she got home from prison, she organized a birthday party for her 1-year-old daughter, Alisha. Sources say the party held at her mother’s residence on Thursday and was attended by close family members.

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has said the Rivers state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is dead and that no matter how the party members fast and pray, it will never wake up.



Governor Wike said this while reacting to President Buhari's planned visit to the state. Recall that last week, the presidency announced President Buhari's planned visit to five troubled state, Rivers being one of such states.



Speaking while launching the reconstruction of Egbelu Street and construction of link roads in East West in Rumuodara, Obio Akpor, yesterday, Governor Wike said President Buhari's visit will not ressurrect the APC in the state.

I hear they say that the President is coming to our state. I have not been told the President is coming and why he is coming. He has the right to come to any state. Maybe the President is coming to make sure that he will improve the fortunes of the APC that is dead in Rivers State. Apart from Jesus Christ, we don’t know of anyone who has risen a dead thing. APC is a dead party in Rivers State. No matter how you fast and pray, it will never wake up”.

Wike insisted that his state is safe and has no security challenges.

''Let nobody bother him or herself that the President is coming for security reasons. We don’t have security challenges in the state. We have never had herdsmen killings or crisis in the state, except when some criminals tried to disrupt the peace and they were checked. We resolved that challenge.” he said

Governor Wike said the presidency is yet to inform him of President Buhari's planned visit and the reason for the visit.

A mother and two of her kids have been killed in a road accident in Bayelsa State. The incident occurred on Thursday on the Isaac Boro Expressway, Yenagoa, the state capital.



The accident reportedly involved a Toyota Sienna, with the number plate ACA 644 AA, and a tricycle, with the number plate Yen 828 WC. The rider of the tricycle, identified only as Kingsley, and the father of the deceased children, were said to be in a coma at a hospital.



It was learnt that the driver of the Toyota Sienna, who was coming from the Ox-bow Lake end of the road, lost control due to speeding. The driver reportedly rammed into the waiting tricycle on the other side of the road, killing the woman and her two children on the spot.



Sympathisers, who thronged the scene of the accident around 10am on Thursday, created a traffic jam and had to be dispersed by armed policemen deployed in the scene. A witness, who did not want to be identified, told PUNCH Metro that the deceased woman and her children died on the spot. “Their corpses were deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, by a police patrol team,” he added.



An official of the Federal Road Safety Corps, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the tragedy. The spokesman for the Bayelsa State Police Command, Mr. Asinim Butswat, also confirmed the accident. “A mother and her two children were killed, while the rider of the tricycle is in a coma,” he said.

INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has disclosed that 299 foreigners who registered to vote have been deleted from the voter's register based on information obtained from the Nigeria Immigration Service.

He made this known at the regular quarterly consultative meeting with security agencies, under the auspices of the inter-agency consultative committee on election security. He said:

“Registering to vote and actual voting in an election are the exclusive rights of Nigerian citizens to which aliens are excluded by law. We have agreed with the NIS that they will deploy their personnel to registration centres nationwide to ensure that only Nigerians register to vote in our election.”

The chairman also assured Nigerians that the commission is working to register all interested voters and issue them with their PVCs. He said:

“As we prepare for the 2019 general elections, the security agencies have a role to play, beyond providing security on the election day. As we are all aware, INEC has embarked upon the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration exercise.
“For the commission, this is the most important preparatory exercise before the general elections. We are aware of the challenges faced by the citizens in some centres and we have been responding within the limits of available resources.
“We wish to reassure all eligible voters that no one will be left out. Furthermore, we wish to assure all those who registered in 2017 that their PVCs will be available for collection in the first week of May 2018. For those who register in 2018, their PVCs will be made available to them before the 2019 general elections.”

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the death of a policeman in a fracas between some youths of Umuenze, in the Orumba South Local Government Area, and the police in the area.


In a statement by the state Commissioner of Police, Garba Umar, the command described the incident as unfortunate. While assuring law-abiding residents of police protection, it vowed that the command would not fold its arms and allow miscreants to violate the law with impunity.


The statement read in part,

“on March 2, 2018, police officers from Zone 9, Umuahia, were on investigation activities over a petition addressed to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 9, on a matter bordering on conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace over land. However, when the team got to Umuenze, the youths attacked them with weapons, and the policemen sustained severe injuries which resulted in the death of a policeman. The area was reinforced by a police team to calm the situation, but the youths were still violent and some of them were arrested. No individual is above the law. We are out to protect the lives and property of citizens and ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order. The suspects arrested will be charged to court to face the law in order to serve as a deterrent to others.”

Following Keke riders’ Strike action in the state on Monday 26th February 2018, the government of Plateau has banned indefinitely the use of Commercial tricycles popularly called Keke Napep in Jos with immediate effect.

Tricycles operators popularly known as Keke in Jos metropolis embarked on a protest today Monday 26th February over incessant harassment by VIO and FRSC, alleging that they were asked to get a drivers License for N15,000 to N20,000. According to T.H MAYO in Jos, Public and private activities were held to a standstill in Jos as Tricycle operators went on strike in protest against what they described Federal Road Safety harassment and Vehicle Inspection Officers extortion.



According to T.H. According to Yinka Ogunde, the culprit hasn't been arrested.

"This is Benjamin Edet, a student of Ojodu Grammar School. Benjamin was stabbed in the eyes by a fellow student on Wednesday and was operated upon yesterday. The injured eye was evacuated. The culprit has not been arrested.
