Your question isn't very clear. Do you have a new passport yet or not?

If you have a new passport, yes you can travel with both. You present both at the airport. This is normal and happens all the time i.e visa in previous passport.
If you don't have a new passport, you may be able to travel with the one expiring in May 2024. You'll need to call the airline you wish to travel with to confirm if they'll allow you travel with a passport that has less than 6months validity. They should, since you have an immigrant visa and most likely a one way ticket.

However, I'll suggest you get a new passport before leaving Nigeria. It'll be much cheaper than having to get it in Canada. Passport fee is higher and there's also the cost of travel to Ottawa.

Thank you for your response. I will renew it in Nigeria. I dont have a new Passport yet.

Good evening family. I am at PPR stage, and at a cross road as to whether to use Kenya or Ghana. Can someone advice me based in time frame, and possibly cost implications?

I reside in Lagos

Please AVOID Accra, ghana. If you use VFS Lagos/Abuja, they will likely send it to Accra for you. Consider asking those who sent it to Kenya here how they did it. The Accra Office take eternity to process/return passport. Save yourself the emotional stress, please!

It appears Kenya have a different approach to processing these passports, but if you are not in a haste, not travelling soon and can stand the anxieties of the absence of your passport then you can really send it to Ghana.

How exactly is it unacceptable? Did they tell you initially you'll get your passport within a particular period? When you sent your passport there, you committed automatically to their holding it for as long as it took to get the visa.

You didnt have to make a comment. I bet there was something more profitable you could have done with your time, than to spend at least 60 seconds of your life, that you cannot regain, to make such an unkind comment. Please learn to read and ignore. Looks like an unattainable skill but you can learn it!

Also waiting to get my passport back since. Traxker says it was forwarded on September 12 to Canada Visa office. I dont know why it is taking eternity for Accra Visa Office to process passports!

Approximately 5 weeks. Mine took 5 weeks
Hello, please was it 5 weeks for the entire process (i.e. from VFS to time of return) or just the time it spent in Accra?

Thanks.

Maybe go to Ghana

@Brownmannie, Have you tried using the webform? I also submitted mine to Accra about 3 weeks ago and havent heard back. I tried reaching out to VFS Lagos because the tracker isnt really helpful. VFS Lagos told me it was at the embassy and there was nothing they could do.

Usable POF is only 37m cash. Others fall under home ties.

This is how much you needed.

1. Tuition fee $47,000.
2. Living expenses for applicant $20,000 ($10,000/yr).
3. Living expenses for spouse $8,000.
4. Living expenses for child $6,000.
5. Miscellaneous expenses $5000+.
SUB TOTAL : $86,000.
Tuition deposit ($7,900)
TOTAL: $78,100 (NGN 46,860,000 if $1/600) if you submitted prior to June 16 or when the harmonized exchange rate was introduced, whichever comes early.

Alternatively, if you had proven a means of financing your education through to the second year if you showed a continuous source of finance, POF of the first year might have been used for you.

This is my thought and not a professional advice. Thanks.

Thank you so much. I see now...I will wait for the GCMS note and work on all the mistakes I made earlier with the POF.

It might seem like a predicament but it is not. It might just be that something is yet to be addressed. GCMS note will give you a bird-eye view of what went south.

Listen to your agent if (s)he is of good repute as you said and I am assuming (s)he is licensed. No matter how reputable an agent may be, (s)he is not immune to visa denial. If you trust him/her, do not blame him. No one can guarantee success.

All we do here is provide information based on individual's experience with IRCC and information on their website. No one is perfect and a professional.

Preliminary Questions to do Analysis
1. You said you are sure that you had sufficient POF, can you provide more information here-- tuition fee, duration of program etc.
2. What form was your POF in? E.g sponsorship, loan, fixed deposit etc. They look at form of POF too and not just the value.
3. What home ties did you provide?
4. What documents did you submit?

Kindly answer the questions above so you can see where you have possibly not addressed well. Meanwhile, I am just asking based on what I think and should not be taken as a professional advise.

Thank you so much. Please see my answers below:

Question 1 on POF as follows : (1) Land docs worth 23M ; (2) 37M cash ; (3) Car docs worth 1.5 and Jewelry worth 400k.

Question 2 on Home ties : (1) Business incorporation documents, (2) Letter showing Leave from business , (3) letter of study leave received from office job ( I have a 9 to 5 as well) and (4) Parents and siblings (In hindsight, I realized the agent didnt submit the birth certificates of my parents & siblings, he just mentioned them in the SOP)

Question 3 on Other documents

Police certificate
Admission letter for a full time Msc program showing program duration which is 2 years
Proof of part payment of tuition (7900Cad out of total of 47000CAD)
Completed biometrics

I did NOT submit
Medicals (not yet requested)
Flight tickets

Sorry about the refusal.

Please, we are a family of three too, how much funds did you prove that returned insufficient?

Hello everyone, please I would like to seek your advice on my student visa application. Thank you as you take the time to read and share your opinion on my predicament.

I got admission for my masters program and applied for a student visa last month. I applied with my husband and a child. I used an agent and I believe the agent submitted all the necessary documents to support the application. The agent is quite reputable, that was why I used him. IRCC refused the application in less one month on the basis of insufficient funds and lack of home ties. Now that the application has been refused, I am confused as to what went wrong because I believe I met the funds requirement for a family of three. The agent has applied for GCMS notes and I have decided to apply alone as the academic program will resume in October. I hear the GCMS notes takes a long time but I have been advised to submit another application soon without my family for now. Would you advise me to : (1) wait to collect the GCMS notes before applying again so that I can get details on the reason for refusal OR (2) take the advise and apply again quickly focusing on addressing the two issues raised in the refusal letter I received from IRCC? Please advise, thank you so much.

Medicals for Canada

Hello everyone, Please does anyone know whether I will have to do another medical exam if my results expire before I enter Canada?

I have a work permit & temporary visa. However, I am considering staying back in Nigeria to sort some issues before travelling to Canada. Issue is my Medicals will expire soon. Does anyone know if I will need to do a new medical exam before I can be allowed to enter Canada? Please advise. Thank you.

Hello everyone,

Please is there any other way to follow-up with an application apart from the web form and reaching out to a MP?

I applied for SOWP for my spouse since July 31 2022. Biometrics and medicals passed since September last year. The proof of funds part was quite easy as I have a decent job in Canada and I also schooled there. They asked for proof of relationship and we provided marriage certificates, wedding photos, emails and whataapp communications. We have not heard back since the request for proof of relationship was made in October 2022. No update to the status whatsoever. I was wondering if anyone has a similar experience and if there is something I am missing. Is there a way I can follow-up with the application besides the webform which has not really been useful? Thank you.

I actually booked medical exam for my kids with Qlife. Our appointment was for last week Monday. We had same issue of appointment confirmation. We waited and waited for the confirmation, it didn't come. So, my husband had to call someone he knows in the clinic, she had to help book the appointment. Hope this helps

Hello everyone!

Please is there anyone who booked appointment at Qlife for medicals this September? I booked an appointment today, made payment but havent received confirmation of appointment. Please is there anyone who also booked an appointment today. If yes, please did you receive an email of confirmation?

Thank you.

Thank you Lilyebi. This was very helpful. I eventually called the clinic too.

Hello Nairalanders,

Please I need clarification regarding the process for applying for Spousal work permit from inside Canada. I am currently working in Canada and would like to apply for a spousal work permit (SOWP) for my spouse who is in Nigeria. The IRCC guidelines states that I can submit the application from inside Canada since I have a valid open work permit. I am however confused as to how this works since my spouse is actually outside Canada. (1) If I submit the application from inside Canada, Will my partner be able to complete their biometrics and medicals in Nigeria? Please advise. Thank you.

Well I am lost. Did u do upfront medical or did IRCC request that you do medicals? Dis will actually help me to answer your questions

Thank you. IRCC sent me medical request which I did, passed and it was uploaded to my account since October 23. 2021. My problem now is that they havent given me PPR yet and it is over a month. I want to follow up on the application through the most effective way. What channel do you recommend that I use ?

Hello everyone,

I would appreciate if you cud please share your thoughts with me on this issue.

I have been expecting my PPR from the Canadian embassy for over one month. I passed the Medicals and my profile was updated since October 23. Since then, I have been waiting to receive PPR. Most of the people who did the Medicals at the same time as I did have received PPR. I am considering raising a GCMS note but would like to hear your thoughts on these. Are there other options I can explore to get an update on my application?

Thank you.

Hello everyone, I would like to find out if there is anyone who did medicals at IOM last week and whether the medical results have been uploaded. I received the medical request on September 22 but was not able to do the test until last week. I am concerned that the 30 days timeline (which will expire on Thursday, October 22) for doing the medical exam will elapse before my medical result is received by IRCC. Should I write to the IRCC for an extension? Please advise. Thank you.

Hello everyone,

Please I would like if you could share your thoughts with me on this issue.

I am international student in Canada planning to get a PGWP by the end of this year. My partner and I are considering doing a registry marriage or marriage in a licensed place of worship in Nigeria so that we can get a marriage certificate and he can apply for a SOWP a3s soon as I get a job here.

However, I am worried that the Visa officers may doubt the authenticity of the marriage as I am not planning to come to Nigeria for the marriage. The marriage will be done on zoom.
Please do you think that the fact that I wasn't physically present for the marriage will negatively affect the SOWP application?

Thank you.

[quote author=Frankrobbn1 post=88619087]

A) Tuition fees are interpreted by the visa officer as school fees. Those ancillary expenses are seen as your miscellaneous expenses during the course of your study. Consequently, why the OTHERS was provided in the financial aspect of the IMM1294E (Study permit made outside of Canada form).

B) Having a sibling who also took same study permit route and presently in Canada as a permanent resident doesn't adversely have any negative impact on your application. The onus is dependant upon you to ascertain the facts that you've significant ties to Nigeria irrespective of the fact that you've a sibling in Canada. This is where social, economic and professional ties like (landed properties in your name, your beloved aged parents, registered business in Nigeria, lucrative career prospects from your present or future employers in Nigeria, your fiancee which you intend getting married upon the successful completion of your program) now comes in play.

I hope this information helps.

In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to reach out here for assistance.

It will end in praise

Thank you very much for your help.

Hello everyone,

Trust you are all keeping safe. Please I would be grateful if you could share with me your thoughts/experience on (a) showing proof of funding; and (b) claiming sufficient family ties to return to Nigeria, when applying for a study permit from the IRCC.

(a) I have been offered admission into a one year Masters program at the UBC, Vancouver and plan to apply for a study permit. I understand from the Study permit application requirements that a student is required to show proof of sufficient funding for at least one year equivalent to the value of the tuition + living expenses of about 10,000cad. However, I would like to know if the VO, in considering the tuition, assumes that ancillary fees like insurance, textbooks and other student fees are inclusive- or is the tuition interpreted by the VO as strictly just "school fees"?

(b) On claim of showing sufficient family ties, Will the fact that an applicant has a married sibling (blood sister) who also entered Canada through the same route( that is, by doing a Masters), and now resides in canada as a Permanent resident negatively impact the applicant's claim of having sufficient family ties to return to canada, especially if the applicant is unmarried?

Please share with me your thoughts on the above. Many thanks.
