Politics / Nigeria To Interpol: Arrest Dick Cheney! by Mayshowers: 4:36pm On Dec 03, 2010
If Nigeria has its way, former Vice President Dick Cheney will be next on Interpol's international "wanted" alert, for bribery charges related to his time as the CEO of Halliburton.

Nigeria's anti-corruption agency says it plans to file charges against Cheney in connection with $180 million in bribes a Halliburton subsidiary paid to Nigerian officials to help secure a $1.2 billion contract during his tenure as head of the company. "We are filing charges against Cheney," Femi Babafemi, the country's Economic and Financial Crimes Commission chief, told Reuters today.

Halliburton admitted to the charges in a U.S. court last year and paid $579 million in civil penalties, but Cheney himself was not implicated.

Now, though, Nigerian officials want to try Cheney, and on their own turf at that. Apparently they plan to ask Interpol, the international police agency, to issue an alert for the former vice president in the next three days, similar to the one issued for WikiLeaks head Assange. The alert "will be issued and transmitted through Interpol," Godwin Obla, chief counsel for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, told Bloomberg.

Let me be upfront with you and say I did not leave Nigeria because of these random generic issues you mentioned and what more I won't contemplate going back to Nigeria  for now even if it has first class infrastructure.
It is strictly about how the move benefits me as a person and is continuing to benefit me.

Dude, its as obvious as the nose on your face that you have no clue about what we are talking about here.A word of advise: try to read through your last 5 posts on this topic- you seem to be shooting yourself in the foot all the time.I rest my case.

You're joking of courseNow that is a totally unguarded comment. If you left Nigeria was it not for the perceived positive benefits you would gain and not merely because of your own jaundiced views on Nigeria? After all foreigners are trooping into the same Nigeria everyday for their own perceived benefits regardless of what some disgruntled elements may feel about the country.

OK dude,no offense meant but that is exactly the way I feel. However if you think Nigeria has become some kind of economic Mecca for foreigners, why don't you pack your things and head back home, what are u still doing in England?
And before I forget,good-luck with the kidnappers. You seriously either need a reality check or just avoiding the truth.

While I still pray for dear motherland,I will call a spade a spade. The truth is we need help, the country is falling apart! What make up a good nation is not a few rich individuals or some isolated mansions but the collective wealth of the people;the ability to have the basic things of life-the very things that have become luxury in Nigeria.Tell me is this the way they run things in England?
Travel / Re: Do You Regret Moving Abroad? by Mayshowers: 6:14pm On Nov 15, 2010
It is sickening what is going on in Nigeria today. It breaks my heart just thinking about it.I believe that things could be better for all of us and as a nation but we have chosen collectively to perpetuate our present situation. It is worthy to mention however that some thing are by design-the curse of a guinea pig.

We need to find out where we have gone wrong and retrace our steps. If we do not do this,I am afraid there is no future for the entity presently called  Nigeria.

As for me and my household,I do not regret or will never regret leaving a sinking boat that we so much try to save but refused to be saved.

And to everybody out there who seeks better life, greener pastures outside the shores of Nigeria, may God help you.

See a few years ago,I use to be like you,I was a hardcore patriot,I believed in the Nigeria dream.

The middle class in Nigeria has been destroyed, any society/nation without the middle class is playing with danger. In Nigeria of today, you are either rich or poor there is no way around it.DDon'tget me wrong there are people doing well in Nigeria today but how many of the over 150million people live above poverty level. My friend we need to do something about this.
Politics / Governor Akpabio's Mercedes Benz Gift To Efcc’s Farida Waziri. by Mayshowers: 10:20pm On Jun 18, 2010
Saharareporters has further discovered that last week’s attempt by the Akwa Ibom state governor, Godswill Akpabio, to display a Mercedes Benz GL 450 he used in bribing the EFCC chairperson, Farida Waziri, was a carefully-orchestrated lie between the duo to deceive the public. And the Lagos State government has now declared even the license plate of the vehicle to be fake. As Saharareporters unearths further damaging proof of Governor Akpabio’s deceitfulness, contrary to his insistence on running a “transparent” government, we hereby call for his resignation, in the interest of the people of Akwa Ibom State and this country.

Here are the facts:

• Contrary to the claims by Governor Akpabio, Saharareporters’ findings show that Daimler Benz never manufactured a vehicle with chassis number WDC 16487 22A 390877. After we ripped up Governor Akpabio’s bluster about the car with clear, incontrovertible facts, Mr. Usoro now admits that the chassis number was “misquoted” in one of the photos given to their chosen journalists in Uyo, and attached to the rebuttal he sent to Saharareporters.

• Saharareporters’ auto-check with Daimler Benz has also revealed that, contrary to the Governor’s story, the vehicle, with chassis number WDC 16487 11A 390877, was exported from Jacksonville, Florida, USA in March 2008 to Nigeria. This supports Saharareporters earlier story that the vehicle did exist and was supplied to Governor Akpabio by a Lagos auto dealer by the name Charles Ahize. We reiterate that the vehicle was given to Mrs. Waziri on December 3rd, 2008, and driven to a hideout in Gboko, Benue State.

• Saharareporters’ check with the Lagos State Motor Vehicle Administration Agency (MVAA) concerning the ownership of the vehicle with Lagos license plate number: SB 456 AAA, which Governor Akpabio claimed was in his security pool, shows that the license plate was issued to one Chief C. Orizu, with an address of Adotolo Nnewi in Anambra State, and not to the Akwa Ibom State government.

• Lagos State says the vehicle registered to that license plate (SB 456 AAA) had a different engine and chassis number from the Mercedes Benz GL 450 displayed by Governor Akpabio to a select group of journalists in Uyo last week. The vehicle, with Engine Number: 27595340029054 and Chassis: WDD 2211761A277469 was a Mercedes Benz S600 saloon car with black color.

What all of these mean is that Governor Akpabio, who seems determined to deceive Nigerians with a “transparency” gospel he evidently does not practice, is going to have to come up with another tale for a select group of “yes” journalists.

Meanwhile, a source knowledgeable about the commotion that attended the exhibition and subsequent admittance by Akpabio that the car we correctly located as having been used in bribing Mrs. Waziri was indeed in his pool of security vehicles, said the car was retrieved from Mrs. Waziri and licence plate placed on it and might have been returned to her. This probably means that following Saharareporters exposure of the deal, Mrs. Waziri was not able to register what amounted to a Greek gift, and the governor had to find another way of correcting the situation.

When Saharareporters contacted Akpabio's media aide, Usoro Usoro, he stuck to the position that our story was false, claiming that the governor had denied it twice but needed to come up with evidence this time around since the issue would not go away. Asked to provide the vehicle registration papers to Saharareporters, he said that since it was a “security vehicle,” he could not do that immediately, and promised to get back to us. He has yet to do so.

Usoro also attempted to dispel the notion about the location of the registration, saying that any Nigerian could register a vehicle anywhere in the country. That may be true, but we have yet to hear of a situation where there are so many discrepancies, and every explanation worsens the original story.

Of the people in the pool of journalists before whom the car was paraded last week, he named national publications such as The Nation, The Guardian and The Sun, as well as a few local newspapers, including Quest, Pioneer and Shield, but none of them seemed to have asked any of the elementary questions.

We stand by our story: that Governor Akpabio bought the scandalously-expensive half a million dollar car as a bribe to Mrs. Waziri; that following our exposé it took him 18 months to find what seemed to be a passable alibi; and that that cure is worse than the disease as it shows the governor to have dabbled in forgery in an effort to paint over his crimes.

Saharareporters recommends that both Governor Akpabio and Mrs. Waziri resign their offices within seven days, and submit themselves to the fullest examination of the law. If they fail to, we call upon relevant civil society bodies in the country to institute any measures within the law to ensure they are removed and prosecuted.

Health / Open Letter To Nexim, Diamond Bank And Bank Phb by Mayshowers: 1:03am On Jun 17, 2010

Open Letter to Nexim, Diamond Bank and Bank PHB
Hey everyone,

It's about to get hot in here. I am frustrated with the idleness of the Banks in Nigeria that are affecting Nicosan production. And I'm sick and tired of being frustrated of dealing with some Chairman or VP of Finance's languor. Here is an open letter to the Banks in Nigeria that are holding up the production of Nicosan, and I need you to please copy this, forward it, and disseminate it all over the web. I want this letter to end up on the front page of Nigerian magazines and newspapers, I want this on the web, I need this letter to come to the attention of those powers that be. All I'm asking is that you sign your name to the bottom if you agree or just forward it to someone in your sphere that has the ability to forward it up the chain. Let's make waves people, and get Nicosan back on the market and in the hands of those of us that need it and depend on it. Thank you.

Dear NEXIM, Diamond Bank and Bank PHB,
My name is Tosin Ola, and I am the writer of the Sickle Cell blog located at http://sicklecellblog..com. I have been a loyal user of Nicosan ever since it was introduced to me in 2007, and this remedy changed my life.

Before Nicosan, I was in and out of the hospital on a monthly basis, having to have regular blood transfusions, countless IV sticks and daily pain. But once Nicosan started working for me, the daily pain ceased, and I have not been admitted into the hospital since 2008. NIPRD really did deliver an amazing product ~ Nicosan works; it works well; and I know you know it works.

I am very worried, because not only is Nicosan hard to find in the United States, it is very difficult to get in Nigeria as well. I had a reader fly to Nigeria specifically for the purpose of getting a supply of Nicosan for his 2 daughters. He spent 3 weeks, and travelled high and low, from Enugu to Lagos, to Abuja and Onitsha. He searched everywhere he could; going to Xechem and every big pharmacy in Nigeria with no success. He came home without a bottle of Nicosan to show for it. He now has to watch his children go through excruciating pain, and know that he tried to help them, but couldn’t. He cried as he was talking to me on the phone, begging me to procure even a bottle of Nicosan for his children. It broke my heart just telling him that I had none.

My friend in London started taking Nicosan the same time I did. He is a student that is finally able to go to school and have a normal life. Two weeks ago he got admitted into the hospital and has not come back home…because he ran out of Nicosan.

Another friend of mine, Angela, has been on Nicosan for only 9 months. Now she is in and out of the hospital every week, dealing with nurses that could care less about the fact that she is in pain. Last month, 7 patients in Bahrain died from sickle cell in the hospital because no one treated them quickly enough. If they were on Nicosan, they would not have had to go to the hospital. Leah died in December from acute chest syndrome…after being healthy for almost a year while on Nicosan.

These are not just stories. There are people that are suffering, dying and living in excruciating pain that you have the power to help. Nigeria has the highest population of sickle cell patients in the world, and I know that each and every one of you knows someone affected by sickle cell. This is not an isolated condition, and we are all connected. So you are allowing your own child to suffer, your own daughter to be in pain, your own sister or brother to die because of your indolence. It is criminal that you have the power to cause so many people to suffer and that you do it so heartlessly and thoughtlessly, especially since God (and NIPRD) has given you the ability to make this painful nightmare a thing of the past.

Every day I get an email from a sickle cell warrior that I introduced Nicosan to, someone who has been able to FINALLY have a normal life, but now has to deal with this all consuming pain yet again. I get letters from people wanting to start Nicosan, but having no chance, because there is none to be had. My friends are falling sick left and right, and asking me to help…and I have nothing to tell them. What excuse will I give them as they lay in their hospital beds wracked in pain? That because of paper pushers, greed, red tape, politics and miscommunication, we are all suffering? What should I tell them?

Last month, I ran out of Nicosan. Now I am in the same boat as my friends, waiting for the evil crises to descend on me like a specter of doom. I am afraid of falling sick again, I am afraid of having to go to the hospital, because sickle cell patients are dying in hospitals from ‘sickle cell related complications’ at an alarming rate. Not just here in the United States, but in Bahrain, Nigeria, India, Jamaica and Brazil. There is a huge stigma that exists for sickle cell patients around the world, and every time we pass through a hospital, we are playing dice with death. Why would you allow this to be our fate?

And yet, here you sit, on the best kept remedy for sickle cell in 100 years, as dust gathers at the Xechem factory that could be our salvation. The Port of Lagos has equipment to manufacture Nicosan, rusting wastefully away while you sit behind your desk ignoring all attempts to put this matter to rest. Nine months have gone by since the factory closed; nine months that this lifesaving remedy has been off the market. It’s such a tragedy, and I feel like no one cares about the sickle cell sufferers. For if someone did care, with even an ounce of humanity or decency; I would hope that one would move heaven and earth to start production of Nicosan yet again. The solution is not hard to come by, all you need is to pick up the phone, talk to each other, agree to terms, sign a contract, and GET PRODUCTION STARTED! I am not a business major, but even I know that you cannot recoup an investment or make any future profits by allowing the materials, product, and equipment to fall to waste.

Sickle cell patients are getting desperate, and starting to fall for all manner of crooks who claim that they have ‘a Nicosan-similar remedy’. I was proposed a tea made of the same herbs that Nicosan has, and I am considering it, because I feel like this is my only option. Some are going to Hydroyxurea, the cancer drug that has shown some success, even though it has a ton of negative side effects and the potential to trigger cancer.

I would not wish this pain on anyone---not even my worst enemy. This is a burden that is mine to bear, as well as countless million other people. And yet, NIPRD came up with this solution, showed us life in the Promised Land, and then you banks brutally took it away. It frustrates and saddens me that 9 months have gone by and the Xechem factory has not been reopened. There is no excuse in the world that should leave millions of people in agony and suffering like this, put thousands of people at the mercy of uncaring healthcare professionals, and push hundreds of people to the brink of death.

I sincerely urge you, to help us in this dire time. We have no way to make Nicosan ourselves, and you gave us Manna from heaven. So please, I am begging you from the bottom of my heart, do not play with my life. Whatever is stopping the production of Nicosan, please find it in your power to remove it. You are our champions, and we need you to help us. I hope and pray that you will be able to overcome whatever obstacles, people or problems in the way and start producing Nicosan promptly, because frankly: all our lives depend on it.

    Sincerely,
    Tosin Ola.
