Career / Re: How Much Is Your Current Salary? by Mazterrr: 11:35am On Apr 16, 2022
Absolutely no need for this thread! Most Nigerians are already depressed, anything to further increase their depression should be annulled. Your salary should be kept to yourself. So many of you posting salary here won't even be sincere enough to open up to your family members.

Family / Re: Domestic Abuse: All The Women In These Pictures Are Dead! All Within 5 Months by Mazterrr: 4:44pm On Apr 15, 2022
Ladies and gentlemen, I have read many valid comments here, and I must say the issue of domestic violence is on the increase everyday. The society at large must take this as serious issue. The causes of domestic violence can never be exhausted as it ranges from financial, emotional, traditional, psychological, intellectual, cultural, familial and even spiritual in origin. Domestic violence happens to both genders, but in most cases, the female folks suffer lethal forms of it, may be because of their fragile nature (not all sha). I believe no man would love to see his own sister treated harshly by another man. Now putting the blame on marriage is not true at all. Marriage wasn't designed to be a war zone. Atleast we never read that the first couple on earth (Adam and Eve) threw blow on each other.

Now we all here will do our generation good if we address our values. What values do you uphold strongly as a man. What values do you uphold strongly as a lady.
Personally, I tell myself constantly that on no account should I lay my hands on a woman. The same way I tell myself that on no account should I rape a woman. So one way of not being an instrument to domestic violence is to strongly entrench it in our values. The truth is that offences will always arise either in relationship or marriage. Finally, if everyone that visits this thread make a strong decision today of never to be an instrument to domestic violence under any circumstance, I think the safety of someone's daughter or son out there is secured.

Pls my points are totally my own opinion. Cheers.

You are now diverting from the matter at hand. You claim that the Nigerian criminal code specifically prohibit prostitution and that gives Wike to ban night clubs and prostitution. I pointed out that what the law banned was under age sex, pimping (which human trafficking is part of), brothels, drug trafficking etc and not girls standing in the streets or clubs looking for customers themselves, and you started talking off point.

Am not talking off point in anyway. I only made you to understand that in leadership you make use of data. Is there a high level of correlation between Prostitution and human trafficking, drug abuse, brothels and under age sex? The answer is yes!

I don't know which school you guys went to but English comprehension must have been missing from the school curriculum.

Here is section of the Nigerian criminal code;

Section 223 of the Nigerian Code Act
Procuration
Any person who
(1) procures a girl or woman who is under the age of eighteen years to have unlawful carnal
connection with any other person or persons either in Nigeria or elsewhere; or
(2) procures a woman or girl to become a common prostitute either in Nigeria or elsewhere; or
(3) procures a woman or girl to leave Nigeria with intent that she may become an inmate of a
brothel elsewhere; or
(4) procures a woman or girl to leave her usual place of abode in Nigeria, with intent that she
may, for the purposes of prostitution, become an inmate of a brothel either in Nigeria or elsewhere,
is guilty of a misdemeanour and is liable to imprisonment for two years.
A person cannot be convicted of any of the offences defined in this section of this Code upon the
uncorroborated testimony of one witness.
The offender may be arrested without warrant.

From my own comprehension abilities, what section 223 criminalizes is the procument of girls under 18 years for sex and the procument of girls/women for prostitution to become a common prostitute either abroad or at home.

To me what this law criminalizes is pimping and brothels. How you interprete that to be a ban on prostitution as a whole is beyond me.

And you feel all these vices the law is against is not happening in PHC under the guise of prostitution? No wonder why we have non proactive leaders due to their so called comprehension ability. Leadership calls for proactivity. Today we are battling with Mpuru miri in the SE and high rate of drug abuse in the Northern part of this country because of non pro activeness in leadership.Currently the Edo state government is paying huge to fight against human trafficking just because past governments saw nothing wrong with prostitution. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Governor's action if available data compelled him to do so.

False. Under the Nigerian constitution that guarantees freedom of movement and association, a governor has no right to ban practices that were not specifically banned by the law.

That was how Governor Fashola (a SAN for that matter) made a law imprisoning everyone in house every last Saturday of the month in the guise of sanitation law. A high court judge took a look and threw out the obnoxious law.
Fashola thought we were still under military rule.

Go and read section 223, 224 and 225 of the Nigeria Criminal Code. Then you will understand whether prostitution is legal or not.

You're very stupid. Insofar as a business activity is LAWFUL, such as setting up a nightclub, no governor has a right to shut it down.

Any compensation at all for the Nigerians who spent their life savings setting up those establishments you're shutting down?

Of course not!

Backward, stupid people with no common sense.

I don't engage in mannerless online abuses with people like you. Education indeed is not literacy. If you like go and set up your family in a building housing a brothel. As for the compensation you are talking about, anyone affected so badly by the Governor's action can go to court to claim whatever damages. Finally, you need to go back to school to learn social use of language.

The ban is only on specific area in portharcourt. I believe there is a justifiable reason for that. Every Governor has the right to curb whatever practice that is constituting nuisance to the majority of people even when such act may infringe on the right of few.
