Dear Nairalanders, I have been a silent follower of this thread for some weeks now and this thread has been very helpful for me. I had my Visa interview today in Lagos, I was the first person to be interviewed by a Lady (can't remember the window) My transcript below: VO: good morning ME: Good morning VO: Why are you going to the US ME: I am going for my masters degree program in computer engineering at University of Louisianna at Lafayette. VO: Why US, why not go to India ME: the US is the birthplace for computer networks and is a global leader in research and development of network technologies and security protocols. Studying in the US will afford me global exposure as well as………..(She cut me short here) VO: what is your highest academic qualification. ME: I have a Bachelor’s degree B.Eng Electrical & Electronics Engineering. VO: tell me about your program, study plan ME: my program is 36 credit unit courses for 4 semesters, 9 credit per semester and I’ll be taking courses like principles of computer commnunications, data mining, telecoms systems, network integrity & security protocols (she cut me short again) VO: What is your career plan ME: I career goal is to be a technical consultant (apparently she heard contractor) in networking and security field. VO: have you handled any contracts so far? ME: Excuse me?? (I was wondering where contractor came in from) VO: You said your career goal is to be a contractor. ME: No, I said consultant not contractor,tehnical consultant in networking VO: Oh okay. So who would be paying for your education ME: I got graduate tuition fellowship from the school and my uncle will be paying my fees (she cut me short) VO: Your I-20 doesn’t state you have any fellowships from the school, it only states your family funds ME: Yes, that’s because I got the fellowship from the school after my I-20 was issued. I have the letter from the school showing this (about to stretch the letter when she asked the next question) VO: When did you graduate from school and what I’ve you been doing since then, ME: I graduated in 2012, after which I embarked on a one year mandatory NYSC program. Immediatel after this I joined Huawei technologies where I’ve been working till now as an IP/Datacommunications engineer. VO: what do you do? ME: I’m a network engineer, my responsibilities include network design and planning, implementation & deployment, troubleshooting any IP transport related issues. VO: what will you be doing in the US after your program ME: I will return to Nigeria to rejoin Huawei technologies VO: Rejoin Huawei? Are you sure you will have a place in Hauwei? ME: Yes I’m sure, VO: Are you guaranteed this? ME: Yes I already have study leave from work VO: DO you have any proof of this? Any letter from your employers to back this up ME: I don’t have this with me here. VO: Types for a minute, then blue paper……………. I intend to get a study leave letter from work before the end of this week, then refire again. Gurus in the house, Kindly scrutinize my transcript, all criticisms are welcomed. Hello House, I am new here but i have seen some relevant information from this thread. I have applied for Msc Computer Engineering at Iowa state University (Spring 2018) and i indicated interest in funding (TA and RA) during the application. My GRE score is 315. I however would like to get some useful tips on securing funding while waiting for my admission status with the grad school. Thanks |
