Health / What Happens When We Get Sleepy by medfortblog: 9:31am On Jun 17, 2018 |
We all need sleep to survive, what happens to our body when we get sleepy is a mystery still surrounds much of our nightly shut-eye. It is not clear what it does to the body or why we need it. Expert found out that it is the collection of certain proteins in the brain that triggers our desire to turn in. This new understanding could offer a new target for drugs to treat insomnia and other sleep disorders. ‘Although sleep exists in all animals, why sleep is needed and how sleep is regulated remain a mystery. We set out to investigate the molecules that govern sleep need (or sleep pressure),’ author Dr Qinghua Liu. And the signs that it’s time to get some shut-eye are consistent across species: yawning, heavy eyelids and heads nodding as the muscles relax and get ready to recline. http://medfort.com.ng/what-happens-when-we-get-sleepy/

Health / Using Toothpaste On A Pimple Causes Irritation And Not Effective by medfortblog: 1:42pm On Jun 09, 2018 |
You must have dabbed toothpaste on a pimple, hoping that it would shrink. Pimples develop when skin oil, called sebum, mixes with dead skin cells and form a pore Using Toothpaste as cheap and quick fix is actually not effective for reducing acne. Putting toothpaste on a pimple can dry out the skin, cause irritation, even get bacteria on your face. New York City dermatologist Dr Douglas Altchek said . Acne is more common during teenage years because more sebum forms as hormone levels increase. ‘Everybody wants a gimmick or a quick fix that’s not expensive, which is why we turn to home remedies like toothpaste hoping it will help,’ Dr Altchek Toothpaste has been utilize for years as a way to treat pimples. Supposedly, it contains hydrogen peroxide and baking soda, two ingredients which ‘dry out’ pimples. But the concentrations that occur in toothpaste are too harsh for the face, which can result in skin drying out or becoming irritated, Dr Altchek said. http://medfort.com.ng/using-toothpaste-on-a-pimple-causes-irritation-and-not-effective/

HomeHealth HEALTHNEWS JOHESU: NMA Seek Role In Negotiating Health Workers’ Demands By Fortune Last updated Jun 8, 2018 0 Share The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has commended the decision by other health workers under the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) to shelve thier nationwide strike after six weeks. While describing themselves ‘leaders of the health sector’, the doctors also demanded to play a part in the negotiation of JOHESU’s demands. JOHESU, a body of all other health workers except doctors, last Thursday suspended its strike which crippled services across public hospitals in the country and left millions without care. http://medfort.com.ng/nlc-health-minister-has-no-right-to-cease-salaries-of-johesu-members/ Since 2014, the health workers have been asking the government to increase their pay and improve their working conditions among other demands. No common ground has been reached yet. In its ruling a day before the strike was suspended, the National Industrial Court (NIC), offered to take over the mediation process between the striking workers and government. The NMA in a statement Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Obitade Obimakinde, asked the government to involve them in the negotiations. “The NMA wishes to reiterate that the health sector operates as a team with the Doctors as the leaders to utmost benefit of the patients. NMA is therefore unapologetically committed to a good and harmonious relationship among the team members. “The NMA also welcome the alternative dispute resolution [ADR] as a means of resolving the crisis but insist that no holistic, meaningful and long-lasting resolution can be made without the input of all the team members especially the NMA. “It is in this vein that we call on the government and the National Industrial Court of Nigeria [NICN] to involve the NMA in the ongoing NICN midwifed ADR”, the statement read. http://medfort.com.ng/johesu-nma-seek-role-in-negotiating-health-workers-demands/
