Crime / The Date Has Been Set For Court To Hear Evans’ Case Against Police… See Details. by MhiztaOgaBoss: 3:37pm On Jul 06, 2017 |
The date has been set for the court hearing of a suit
filed by suspected billionaire kidnapper, Evans,
against the police.
July 13 has been fixed by the Federal High Court in Lagos for
hearing in a N300m fundamental rights enforcement suit
filed by suspected kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme
Onwuamadike a.k.a. Evans, against the Inspector-General of
Police, Punch Metro reports.
Evans, through his lawyer, Olukoya Ogungbeje, filed the suit
last week urging the court to order the police to charge him
to court or release him immediately.
He urged the court to award N300m damages against the
police in his favour for his alleged unlawful detention without
being charged to court.
A source at the court said on Wednesday that the case was
initially assigned to Justice Babs Kuewumi, but was later
returned to the court’s registry to enable it to be assigned to
another judge who would hear it during the court’s long
vacation.
The source said, “The case was assigned to Justice
Kuewumi. But due to its nature, the judge felt it would be
better handled by a vacation judge.
“He felt it would not be ideal to adjourn it for hearing until
after the long vacation in September.
“So, it was the judge who gave the parties the July 13 date to
appear before the vacation judge after studying the file.”
In the suit, Evans is seeking a court’s order directing the
respondents to immediately charge him to court if there is
any case against him in accordance with sections 35 (1) (c)
(3) (4) (5) (a) (b) and 36 of the constitution.
He is, in the alternative, seeking an order compelling the
respondents to immediately release him unconditionally in
the absence of any offence that will warrant his being
charged to court.
Evans is contending that his continued detention by the
respondents since June 10, 2017, without being charged to
court or released on bail is an infringement on his
fundamental human rights. |
Sports / BREAKING!! Man Utd Agree £75m Fee With Everton To Sign Striker, Romelu Lukaku by MhiztaOgaBoss: 3:15pm On Jul 06, 2017 |
Manchester United have stolen Romelu Lukaku from under the noses of Chelsea by agreeing a £75 million deal with Everton for the Belgium striker. United hope to formally conclude a deal for Lukaku before the club fly to Los Angeles on Sunday for the start of their pre-season tour of the US. Wayne Rooney is likely to join Everton in return although that is being treated as a separate deal, even if the Merseyside club’s interest in the England striker will have helped facilitate the move for Lukaku. United have now ended their interest in Real Madrid and Spain striker Alvaro Morata. Lukaku’s impending transfer to Old Trafford is likely to infuriate Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, who had told the Premier League champions to sign the Belgian at any expense. Chelsea were thought to be the favourites to sign Lukaku but United have been happy for that theory to gather pace in recent weeks as they worked quietly behind the scenes to secure a deal for the 24-year-old. The capture of Lukaku gives Jose Mourinho his first choice target to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic and a victory over his former club. It is also another triumph for Mino Raiola, Lukaku’s agent who also oversaw Paul Pogba’s world record £89 million move to Old Trafford last summer as well as Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s £26.3 million transfer and Ibrahimovic’s switch from Paris St-Germain. It was reported in May that Raiola will earn £41 million from the Pogba deal and he is set for another handsome pay day as Lukaku puts the finishing touches to his United move. United were actively pursuing a deal for Morata but he was Mourinho’s second choice to fill the void left by Ibrahimovic’s departure last week while negotiations were complicated by Real’s ongoing interest in United goalkeeper, David De Gea. If United complete a deal for Lukaku before Sunday, as expected, it remains to be seen if Rooney’s return to Goodison Park, 13 years after he left for Old Trafford, is also wrapped up by then. Everton chairman Bill Kenwright met with Rooney’s agent Paul Stretford in London on Wednesday as talks accelerated and there is a will to get the transfer completed by the weekend. United have yet to confirm whether they are willing to waive a fee for Rooney, who has 12 months left on his £300,000 a week contract, £60,000 of which is accounted for by a complex image rights deal. Mourinho was said to have become increasingly exasperated by United’s lack of progress in the market this week but whether that was part of a smokescreen while the club moved to snare Lukaku is unclear. |
Celebrities / Erigga Vs Yung6ix by MhiztaOgaBoss: 3:06pm On Jul 06, 2017 |
As you all know, here on Nairaland, we believe in giving honour to whom honour is due. It is already settled in the East and the Western Region. While Phyno is still holding on to the staff of authority in the East, Olamide is still maintaining the rap game Kingship in the West. Now, Let’s go South-South!! Presently, the south-south region can only boast of two Warri born hot rappers, Youngsix and Eriga. On several occasions, both rappers have referred to themselves as KING OF THE SOUTH. In as much as they both deserve the title based the fact that, both rappers are dope lyricists with heavy punchlines, it is just impossicant to have two Kings in one region. So, let’s settle this once and for all. Considering the lyrical prowess of these two Warri born rappers, Youngsix and Eriga, Who do you think is the Real King of South-South? Drop Your Comments!! |
