Foreign Affairs / US Elections: Trump Vs Biden, Two Candidates, Two Different Roads To Growth by millizoo: 2:50pm On Oct 23, 2020
The United States elections is just around the corner and the two presidential candidates, incumbent President Trump and challenger Joe Biden want to boost economic growth and reduce unemployment.

A closer look at their approaches, showed that they are radically different.

Here Economists at Rabobank have tried to analyze and assess the impact of their policy plans on a range of macroeconomic variables, such as GDP, real income, public debt and trade.

Key quotes

“The upward effect on GDP growth from additional Trump tax cuts would be offset by the cuts in government spending aimed at stabilizing the public debt to GDP ratio. The Biden plan would boost GDP growth, but also the trajectory of public debt to GDP. In the long run, we expect the US economy to be larger by 3.8% to 4.6% due to the Biden plan tapping into the endogenous growth potential of the economy. However, we expect public debt to arrive at somewhere between 164% and 170% of GDP, which is much higher than the 147% in our baseline scenario. ”

“The tax relief in the Trump administration’s plans results in a rapid pickup of real personal disposable income in the aftermath of the corona crisis from $43,350 per capita by the end of this year to roughly $47,000 in 2025, which is $1,000 more than in our baseline.”

“As Biden imposes higher taxes, by 2025 we project real disposable personal income to barely touch $46,000 per capita, which is even slightly below our baseline. However, as the impact of tax policies starts to peter out, we expect a rapid pickup in income after 2025, which is directly related to productivity-enhancing policies which prop up economic growth. Ultimately, we expect real income to be 2.2% to 3.3% higher.”

“Unemployment and trade under Trump would roughly follow the same trajectory as in our baseline. US trade is expected to rise significantly under Biden. As US export do not rise in tandem, this will also result in a widening trade deficit in the long run.”

“In the short-term, Biden’s policy packages push unemployment below levels in our baseline, as positive employment effects of additional government spending outweighs the negative impact of a higher minimum wage. However, mid-decade unemployment is expected to rise above the baseline, partly related to higher corporate taxes and a pickup in labor-saving technological change.”

Health / Post COVID-19 Crisis; 3 Causes For A Difficult Social Situation – Natixis by millizoo: 4:59pm On Oct 22, 2020
Following the COVID-19 crisis, we are going to see a rise in structural unemployment, efforts by companies to improve their financial situation and a contrast between difficulties for wage earners and the rising wealth of asset owners.

The combination of these three developments could obviously trigger a social crisis, according to analysts at Natixis.

Key quotes

“The COVID-19 crisis will lead to a huge shift in the sectoral structure of economies. We are going to see sectors in permanent difficulty (automotive, aerospace, air transport, tourism, restaurants, culture, traditional retail, office real estate) and growing sectors (IT services, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, security, online retail). Jobs will therefore have to be transferred from the sectors in difficulty to the growing sectors. But this is difficult to achieve, as they require different skills. There is a risk that structural unemployment will rise sharply.”

“After the COVID-19 crisis, companies will have been hit by both a fall in their equity due to the fall in their earnings and an increase in their debt. Companies will therefore try to improve their balance sheets and lift their profitability, leading to a number of developments that may exacerbate social tensions: slowdown in wages, afresh wave of offshoring, the search for monopoly positions, calls for tax cuts (and the rejection of environmental standards. Capitalism therefore risks become ‘harsher’ after the COVID-19 crisis.”

“The economic policy response to the COVID-19 crisis has consisted in huge fiscal deficits monetised by central banks, which have kept long-term interest rates very low and brought about a huge expansion in liquidity. This monetary environment will lead to a sharp rise in asset prices (equities and real estate), especially once the uncertainty over the public health situation subsides. Public opinion will therefore see difficulties for wage earners on the one hand (rising unemployment and a slowdown in wages) and rising wealth on the other hand.”

Computers / Re: Guide On How To Speed-up A Windows XP Computer by millizoo: 12:08am On Oct 10, 2020
yusufu16:
for me XP is the most stable operating system from microsoft ever. some banks still use XP, almost all ATM still uses windows XP, many hitech security hardware still uses XP, most car Diagnostic tool use XP, the list goes on.
Very true
Computers / Guide On How To Speed-up A Windows XP Computer by millizoo: 1:21am On Oct 09, 2020
"Windows XP" XP stands for experience, and according to Microsoft, their goal with this operating system is to improve the user experience.

The interface to make changes to your computer; that is to configure and customize is easy and can be found throughout the operating system.

The speed of the Windows XP computers may go slower and slower over time; due to usage.

In order to speed-up the computer, please follow this simple guide to learn how to increase the Windows XP.

Windows XP is available in Home and Professional editions.

Okay, lets dive in:

STEP 1.

The first step is to remove Spyware and Viruses.

The leading causes of slowdown in a computer system is spyware and viruses because you may have several spyware cookies or trojans that may be taking up your processor time while reading, storing and reporting your activity to several spy databases.

You can read up how to "Rid-Your-Computer-of-Adware,-Spyware-and-Viruses" in order to remove them and speed up your system.

Then make sure you update and run your anti spyware and virus software every week.

You must make sure you have installed tools to protect your computer against malware, spyware and viruses. At least you can do with the free ones "For Personal Use".

The Microsoft's Windows Defender is also a widely-used anti-spyware tool that is distributed freely currently for users with a "Genuine" verified copy of Windows.

Other Microsoft services and products such as "Live OneCare" and "Vista" are also included in the "Windows Defender".

You have to download and install Mozilla Firefox, Opera or Google Chrome. These browsers will allow and aid you to import all of your Internet Explorer settings, and they less open to malware than the Microsoft Internet Explorer.

After the download and installation of those browsers, you will be prompted with a "Set as Default Browser" message. Check "Don't show this again" and click "Yes".

Firefox also has a very good feature to delete cookies, cache, and temporary internet files each time you close it. You are strongly recommended to use this option. It could help to speed up your internet experience.

Google Chrome which has been noticed to be faster and less vulnerable to virus attacks from the internet, could also be given a trial.

Quick Virus Remover, could be given a trial, if your computer have been really affected by a complicated virus infection, however free virus removers should not be a replacement for commercial products.

STEP 2:

In order to keep your computer operating optimally, there is need to regulary clean your system registry with registry cleaners, because your computer over time may be clustered with unnecessary files that can slow it down.

However Microsoft recommends not to use registry cleaners.

STEP 3:

The next step here is to perform a disk clean up as quickly as possible to remove unnecessary files.

-Click Start in the bottom left corner, then click Run.
-Type, "cleanmgr.exe" in the text field.
-Click OK to start Disk Cleanup.

STEP 4:

Unwanted/unneeded software and applications should also be removed immediately because they may be reasons for the slowdown.

-Click Start, then click Control Panel.
-Click Add/Remove Programs.
-Right click any unnecessary software and click "Remove".

STEP 5:

Having removed the unwanted/unneeded software and applications, the next step is to defragment your Computer. This step will place similar files in close proximity on the hard disk and will help improve load speeds.

-Click Start then click Run.
-Type, "dfrg.msc" in the text field.
-Click OK to open Windows Disk Defragmenter.
-Click Analyze to determine whether you need to defrag your disk and click Defrag to defrag the disk.
-Warning!!! Do not defrag solid state drives.

STEP 6:

The next step is to try to stop unnecessary start-up programs, by reducing the number of programs that starts running automatically when your computer turns on.

-Click the Start button then Run.
-Type "msconfig" and click OK to open System Configuration.
-In System Configuration, go to the Startup tab and uncheck any programs which are not required.

-If you are not sure what some of the programs listed are, you can search them up online to see if they are safe to disable.

-Click OK on the System Configuration window to save the changes.
-If you encounter problems after disabling some startup programs, re-open System Configuration and choose "Normal Startup" from the General tab.

-Programs can also schedule unnecessary tasks to launch automatically when Windows starts. In order to stop such tasks, use Windows Task Scheduler. You can open Windows Task Scheduler, by clicking Start, click All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Scheduled Tasks.

-Services you do not use or need should be disabled. Open Control Panel, click Administrative Tools, and select Services. Right click the services you want to disable and select "Properties", then set the start-up type to manual to disable them. Disabling the wrong services may lead to serious problems that you may not notice right away. You should not disable services if you are not experienced in this area.

STEP 7

Next is to free up graphics resources as turning off those fancy Windows XP graphics will inarduably increase the computer speed.

-Go to Start, right click Computer in the Start menu, and click Properties.
-Go to the Advanced tab. Click the Settings button under Performance.
-Select the "Adjust for best performance" option, then click OK.

STEP 8:

Next is to set Page File size.

-Go to Start, right click Computer, and select Properties.
-Go to the Advanced tab. Click the Settings button under Performance.
-Now switch to the Advanced tab of the new dialog box that opens and click on '"Change" under Virtual Memory.
-You will see "Initial Size (MB)" and the "Maximum Size (MB)".
-Change 'Initial Size' to the same value as 'Maximum Size' then click set.
-NOTE: When your computer consumes your computer's hard drive and uses it as RAM, it is referred to as thrashing. -Thrashing is bad for your computer and buying RAM (it's not that expensive) is much more worthwhile.

STEP 9:

Next is to set the set priorities.
-Press Control+Alt+Delete at the same time or right click your task-bar and select Task Manager.
-Once Task Manager opens, click the Processes tab.
-Now, find "explorer.exe", right click it, and set the priority to real-time.
-This makes your computer focus on explorer.exe, which is Windows Explorer (the program you view files on your computer in and your task-bar and Start menu).
-This method greatly increases speed of Windows Explorer and if other programs you use are slow, you can also set their priority.

-Upgrade your RAM. More RAM allows programs to start and run faster.
-Upgrade your CPU. Doing so increases program performance.
-Upgrade your graphics. Video editors, gaming, photo editors, etc will benefit from this.
-Upgrade your HDD/SSD. A larger HDD/SSD and a faster one will speed up your computer.
-If you're considering a new computer, do your research before deciding what to buy. A wrong choice may cost you more money or get you a worse computer.

STEP 10

Next is to physically upgrade your computer or get a new one.
It should be noted that as a computer gets older, it becomes slow and tweaking the Windows itself may only help to a certain extent.

However, it may be advisable to get an upgrade or betterstill to get a completely new computer. To upgrade your computer will require some technical experience in technology, in which case you have to get the services of a professional.

Politics / 1,000 Chinese Students Visas Revocked By US, For Security Risks by millizoo: 1:28pm On Sep 10, 2020
United States Government has revoked visas for 1,000 Chinese students and and researchers, siting security risk as reasons.
According to a report by the BBC, the development is traced to a proclamation by President Donald Trump in May directed at Chinese nationals suspected of having ties to the military.
The report added that it is linked to allegations of stolen data and intellectual property by some Chinese students and researchers.
The BBC report also disclosed that about 370,000 students from China had enrolled at US universities in 2018-19 sessions.

A spokeswoman from the US state department stated that those whose visas were revoked are deemed "high-risk graduate students and research scholars".

"We continue to welcome legitimate students and scholars from China who do not further the Chinese Communist Party's goals of military dominance," the spokeswoman stated.

However the Chinese ministry of foreign affairs condemned the move at a daily media briefing in Beijing.

"This is outright political persecution and racial discrimination. It seriously violates the human rights of these Chinese students," spokesman Zhao Lijian said, adding that China reserved the right to "further respond".

Foreign Affairs / Some British Politicians Clamour For A New Cold War With China - Chinese Envoy by millizoo: 12:22pm On Jul 30, 2020
Chinese ambassador to the United Kingdom, Mr. Liu Xiaoming, has said Thursday that he regrets their relationship with the UK has run into a series of difficulties and added that the UK should take full responsibility for those difficulties.

"The UK has meddled in Hong Kong affairs and has undermined stability in Hong Kong," Xiaoming added. "London has poisoned the relationship. Some British politicians clamour for a new cold war with China."

The Chinese diplomat said via his official Twitter handle:

"I hope visionary people in UK will see the big picture of Chinese-British cooperation, bear in mind the well-being of the peoples of two countries, listen to reasonable voices and make a wise choice on Huawei so as to embrace opportunities, embrace growth and embrace the future.

History does not wait for the hesitant. In the face of the overwhelming trend of 5G development, countries must respect each other, remain open and choose cooperation to build a bright future together.

Huawei is a leader in 5G. Britain could either choose to cooperate with Huawei and gain an edge in the era of the digital economy, or refuse such cooperation and give up leadership in a 5G-dominated future.

Going forward, 5G will drive the "smart" trend in transport, agriculture, medical care, education and urban management, and bring a complete transformation to industrial production and daily life.

t has also facilitated the contactless economy during the pandemic, which is a vivid illustration of the important value and promise of 5G as network infrastructure. By the end of this year, there will be more than 600,000 5G base stations and 200 million 5G users in China.

China has stepped into the era of 5G. In the fight against Covid-19, 5G has played an important role in China in remote diagnosis and treatment, quick and high-quality patient services, and better safeguards for medical workers.

It will fast-forward the digitalisation of traditional industries and create new and robust impetus for future global growth. It is estimated that, by 2035, 5G will drive up global economic output by US$13.2 trillion and create 22.3 million jobs.

As a symbol of new round of scientific&technological revolution, 5G–combined with cloud computing, big data, artificial intelligence and blockchain – will unleash enormous progress in the Internet of Things, human-computer interaction and transformation led by smart technology.

However, UK is choosing to turn down this offer despite the urgent need to accelerate innovation&jump-start economic recovery to build a future for generations to come. Now, that future is not coming any nearer. 5G technology has a bearing on every aspect of future of mankind.

Moreover, there is risk of missing a share of development bonus of China, the world's most vigorous&fastest-growing market&a major powerhouse for world economic growth for 14 years in a row. China welcomes all countries, including UK, aboard the fast train of its development.

British telecommunications operators estimate that removing Huawei equipment from their networks would cost billions of pounds and result in a delay of at least two to three years and an extra cost of £6.8 billion in Britain's 5G roll-out.

This decision, in addition to hampering growth, also comes with a bill which will inevitably be paid by consumers.

In 2018, the company announced a further investment plan of £3 billion in the next five years, which is a positive vote for growth in Britain. Unfortunately, this will now be subject to uncertainties in light of the British government's recent decision.

In 2018, the company announced a further investment plan of £3 billion in the next five years, which is a positive vote for growth in Britain. Unfortunately, this will now be subject to uncertainties in light of the British government's recent decision.

In 20+ years since coming to UK, Huawei has brought in more than £3 billion in procurement&investment, created 26,000 jobs&established five research centres, making enormous contributions to development of telecommunications industry, economic growth&social progress in UK.

There is no doubt 5G will create new impetus for global growth. This is particularly true given economic impact of Covid-19 on the world, including UK, that has resulted in the most severe recession in decades. Post-pandemic economic recovery is a daunting task for all countries.

UK has been presented with an opportunity to match up its strengths in talent, technology and creative ideas with Huawei's strong manufacturing capabilities and outstanding research team to take the lead in the era of 5G. However, this invaluable opportunity has been rejected.

On 29 July, South China Morning Post @SCMPNews, carried my article entitled By banning #Huawei, Britain is turning its back on a 5G-dominated future. The full text is as follows: http://chinese-embassy.org.uk/eng/dshdjjh/t1

Huawei is a microcosm of growing Chinese investment in Britain, which in the past 10 years alone has increased by 20 times and enabled Chinese and British companies to work closely together to achieve innovation and common development.

As Britain strives to achieve full 5G and fibre coverage by 2025, Huawei would have been a great help".

Following these statements, the UK's FTSE 100 Index edged lower and was last seen losing 1.62% on the day at 6,032.

Business / British Pound In For Sharp Losses If UK-EU Trade Talks Breaks down by millizoo: 12:33pm On Jul 24, 2020
The British Pound may likely fall sharply if United Kingdom and the European Union trade deal talks breakdown, given the market's sentiment that both regions will reach agreement before the Brexit transition period ends on December 31, 2020; Commerzbank says.
"Looking at the current GBP exchange rates, I cannot imagine that a no-deal Brexit has really already been priced in," Commerzbank's Antje Praefcke says.

Praefcke remains "optimistic" about an agreement as it would be "almost grossly negligent" to risk a no-deal Brexit when U.K. companies are already struggling due to coronavirus.

However, there is still the possibility that the "worst might happen" and that sterling will suffer from "heavy losses as a result," she added.

The GBP/USD and EUR/GBP are both flat at 1.2737 and 0.9108 respectively at time of reporting this.

Politics / Executive Jets Services Limited, Apologises To Aviation Minister by millizoo: 3:24pm On Jun 16, 2020
The Chairman and CEO of Executive Jets Services Limited, Dr Sam Iwuajoku, has apologized to the Aviation Minister Senator Hadi Sirika over the flight that took Naira Marley and crew to Abuja.

Naira Marley performed at the Jabi Lake Mall, Abuja on Saturday, 13th of June, 2020, amidst COVID_19 pandemic, after flying in from Lagos via the Executive Jets Services Limited, charter flight, against the federal government lockdown order.

The company was subsequently sanctioned by the Federal Government and in defence, the CEO of the private charter airline company, said he mistook the name Fashola on the manifest of the flight to mean that of Minister of Works and assumed the flight was being operated to airlift Mr Babatunde Fashola and his entourage to Abuja instead of Azeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley, Nigeria popular musician.

In a letter Iwuajoku addressed to the Aviation Minister, dated June 15, 2020, with the title, “Flight for 13/06/2020 done by Executive Jet Services to Abuja”, wrote: “We hereby apologized for the above flight, with your permit ref: FMA/ATMD/0175/V/V/1268 dated June 11, 2020”, the Vanguard reports.

“So, on Saturday morning June 13, 2020, my staff called me that they have a charter flight to Abuja and that the passengers are already in the lounge. As a rule, passenger manifest is always sent to me before any departure.”

“When I went through the manifest and I saw FASHOLA BABATUNDE, I thought it was the Honourable Minister of Works going to Abuja with his men; so, we decided to do the flight since he is a serving Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria . We are very sorry for this mistake and we promise that this would not happen again.”

“According to the passenger manifest dated, June 13, 2020 made available to us, the Lagos-Abuja-Lagos flight conveyed to Abuja, Adewunmi Segun, Chinonso Opara, Fashola Babatunde, Fashola Adeshina and Adeyeye Tobi.

Often times, the cheapest deal isn’t always the best. If it is too good to be true, you have to be very cautious.

Have you ever been to the popular computer village in Ikeja, Lagos State? It is another world of it's own.

While the big and small shops that sell computers, phones and accessories thrive genuinely, there are these boys who hibernate on the streets, hawking both used and new items from phones to what have you!

These boys are scammers, who will show you a very high end phone at a very cheap price, give you opportunity to test it with your SIM, and ones you agree to buy, the real phone will be switched to a dead one, well packaged to look real.

That was the story of this young man who bought iPhone 7 plus for N20,000 and discovered that what he paid for was an empty phone filled with fufu(cassava food). The fufu will be used to fill the empty phone, in order to give it weight.
