Lagos Interview - Approved
27 May 2021
Assistantship covers 99% COA
Deficit $500

Thank you to all contributors here. You guys helped me through my journey. Thank you so much @schrodinger1 and @dodoyinsola for your help. I am super grateful.

I don't have so much to share from my personal interview experience however, from others that I listened to while waiting for my turn, it is best to go very prepared with lots of prayers. Study all transcripts on this forum and draft yours too. I drafted mine and went through the interview process with a Nairalander at least once. Treasure the advice on this platform....na real gold!

Wishing all other prospectives God's favour!

TRANSCRIPT

VO- Good morning
Me- Good morning

VO- Can I have your passport and documents
Me- Passed old and new passport and form i-20

VO- why did you give me two passports?
Me- One is my old passport. She immediately gave it back to me.

VO- Reads out...You are going to ...XYZ...University to study....ABC
Me- That's correct

VO- I can see you have assistantship
Me- Yes please

VO- Do you have proof of this
Me- Yes. Searched my documents, couldn't find the print out and I saw it stuck to the form i-20 I gave her. Told her to check beneath the form i-20. She didn't.

VO- Typed on her system and handed me the white paper with my documents while she kept my passport. Told me to pick up....
Me- Thank you and left.

Congrats dear. BTW, did you go with any form of bank statement to prove you can cover the $500 deficit? grin

Centralising this in terms of democratic rule sir.
Well, NC will have to wait till SE, NE and perhaps SW rule before having a stake. At least, based on the number of years in power since 1960, it's a North Central man that had the longest stay.

Guys, I think I made a mistake in my DS-160

Please advise cry

My I-20 says my sponsor is family funds
My family is actually paying my tuition etc

But when filling the DS-160, I saw a question that said

Person/Entity paying for your trip

I selected Myself as the one paying

I thought they meant flight and minor trip expenses

Someone is telling me now that I have made a grave mistake and it can lead to denial. That I should have put in my DS-160 that my family is paying for my trip.

PS: I have already submitted the DS-160 form and I can’t edit it again
Open a new DS-160 form and update the new DS number on your visa appointment profile

I don't think they would deny you (and me) having the visa interview because of not having other given names on the application. And I believe it's the DS-160 form that they use for the interview. What's the worst that can happen? We go rough am.

.

I have same belief bro. But notwithstanding, it only makes sense to reach out to them for clarification. And perhaps someone who has had such issue before can also be of help.

Please can you talk in a more logical fashion? How is first name supposed to include middle name. Please get rid of the nerves.

Boss, calm down. What's the basis for the subtle insult? It's not mandatory for you to offer advice. You could as well skip my question if you don't find it logical. And yes, I perfectly understand what I was talking about. Attached is a screenshot from my visa confirmation page.

Do you mean visa interview confirmation page? Was there space for other names? Isn't just first and last name?

Yes. Visa interview confirmation page. On reading again, I noticed the first name is expected to include both first name and middle name as shown on one's international passport.

Please I made a mistake on my visa profile. I used only my first name and surname, and didn't include my middle name (as shown on my international passport and DS-160). I also noticed I can't change the names on the profile page once entered.

Is there any issue with this? And is there a possible means to get it corrected?

REQUESTING FOR EMERGENCY APPOINTMENT:

If you can't find a suitable date and you need to request for emergency appointment, the follow steps must be followed for your request to be approved.

You can only request for emergency appointment within 60 days to your program start date. Your program start date is written on your I-20. Check it and know what date it is.

1, Pay your visa fee at GTB. Login to the CGI site here: https://cgifederal.secure.force.com/?country=Nigeria
Fill in your details and put the reference number on your visa fee receipt. Proceed and book any appointment date you see on the site, even if it is December 2021 or 2022. Just book.

If you book this date and you are not within the 60 days of your program start date, relax and check your CGI profile every day in case earlier and suitable dates are released. However, if no suitable dates and you are within the 60-day period, proceed and click request for emergency on your dashboard.

2.
Once you book, the option for "emergency appointment" will show on the left pane menu. Note this. Click on the emergency appointment, which will take you to another page with form to fill. Pick a tentative travel date (date you wish to arrive the US).

3. You must have paid your SEVIS fee and have the PDF confirmation receipt. You must have a scanned copy of your I-20.

4. In the first section of the form, click academic or student. Then compose a short message as to why you need emergency appointment. State your program start date as on I-20 in the message you compose. Indicate the tentative traveling plan you filled in your ds160.

5. Attach your I-20 and SEVIS. Then submit.

If approved, you will be notified through email to go and pick an earlier date on your CGI profile. If refused, you're on your own!
Note that if your emergency appointment was approved and you are notified but you did not go to your profile to pick the dates released for you in time, the date can become unavailable. So it is important to act timely.

I take the pain and time to write this because I don't want anybody here to contact me on how to do it. Now, you have the step-by-step information.
All the best!
Good day sir, I haven't received your response to my inquiry via email. Thank you

ON EMERGENCY APPOINTMENT REQUEST.

Please do not request for emergency appointment if you were unable to get suitable date for your program start date. The U.S embassy will not approve expedient request that is outside the stated 60-days to program start date. According to the U.S website, emergency appointment will only be approved if requested within the 60 days of your course/program start date as stated on your i-20.

In addition, you must have paid your SEVIS fee, schedule any available date and start your DSFORM if you are requesting within the given period.
I am sharing this as some students are denied emergency request. Don't waste the chances to get a better date. It is not the time to request for emergency. Relax.

More dates will be released for Lagos Consulate and Abuja embassy. Keep checking your CGI account, and if you see new dates, screenshot it and post on this thread so that others can benefit. Do not pay any agent to look for date for you; new dates will be released and you will be able to book by yourself.

A side note:
Remember the rule for a successful interview. Be confident, speak up and be heard and make sure you flow. Create no unnecessary story in your response to the consular questions. Be on point, straightforward, maintain eyes contact. Also, listen carefully when the VO is about to ask you a question. You may need to lean towards the tiny speaker on the right side of the counter window.

F-1 INTERVIEW DOCUMENT CHECKLIST
Make sure you have all the basic and required documents with you
1, SEVIS fee payment confirmation receipt
2, GTB visa fee receipt
3, I-20 (signed)
4, DS-160 confirmation printout showing your passport photograph as uploaded.
5, VERY IMPORTANT: Interview Appointment Confirmation printout showing the same DS-160 ID Number on your DS160 Confirmation (If you mix this number up, you will not be interviewed, and you will have to fill a new dsform and potentially book for another appointment).
6, 1-2 passport photograph of the same you uploaded online on your DS160 application.
7, Scholarship letter or funding appointment letter (if there’s any).
8, Sponsor official bank statement, signed and stamped, showing more than the total cost of attendance in Naira or in USD or other currency available.

All the best for fall 2021 hopefuls. smiley
Thank you for this, sir. I sent you a pm. My visa interview comes up soon.

Dave Umahi knew that he didn't stand a chance at the presidency with him and Peter Obi being in the same party. Joining the APC was a good political move. As far as I am concerned, those two are SE's best materials for the presidency.

Meanwhile, if Rochas Okorocha had been sensible, he would have been a tough candidate to beat. Dude is even more popular in the north than south. No southern politician has such national appeal. Sadly, he blew his opportunity with Iberiberism
LOL, Okorocha has more national appeal than Tinubu? Some comments on nairaland eh grin

igbos will rule and you’ll live to see it.

You’ll watch things improve, and economies grow.

All that free monies you and your cronies get from looted funds will stop.

The north will be fenced off and all her diseases, afflictions, poverty, curses and violence will consume you and you alone.

Federal character will collapse and they north would be relegated to the background. None of you will have anything and nothing...and you all shall be contained in you north behind the fence/wall

The west would be free of godfatherism and merit would reign supreme.

You’ll watch East grow and the entire country fly to triumph.

...and there’s nothing, absolutely nothing you’ll do about it
Let that start in the East first. Charity begins at home.

The University of Wyoming.
Though closed for Fall, for those who want to give this a shot in the Spring:
Top 200 school.
Located in a small isolated town in the West. But just 2hrs 30mins from Denver Airport, one of the busiest in America.
They fund a lot of study abroad.
They prioritize work experience, and how you fit in, have a specific and clear research topic and a clear post-study plan. They value this more than just grades and CGPA. They would love you to do a PhD and have a sense of problem you'd like to solve.
Take recommendation letters seriously.
The cost of living is pretty low.

And the city can be freezingly cold. Don't forget to add that.

Tinubu has been on nairaland like every time_ And I have not seen a critical post on him. Perhaps Seun is auditioning. But remember Tinubu is complicit in the massacre of our comrades who marched and demanded an end to police brutality. Tinubu mocked us all after they were killed. And to give this platform to him, the way that is been done, is a great disservice to the memory of those killed in order that Chief Tinubu might earn and continue to exploit our common/shared resources.
This line is too puerile to work on sane minds. Try something else.

Ebonyi is the youngest state in the South East, but it's faring better than all other states created the same time as it. It's doing better Ekiti in the South West that was created the same time as it. It's faring better than Bayelsa in South South. Better than Zamfara, Nasarawa.

Whether infrastructure, education, agriculture, voter turnout, etc.

So when you want to make snide remarks about Ebonyi, compare it to it's mates.

If you see what Ebonyi has made out of the meagre allocation it receives and you compare it to the kind of allocation Lagos gets, you'll know that Ebonyi is doing better with it's funds than Lagos
Stop deceiving yourself, no state in Nigeria rivals Lagos in terms of development. Not to talk of a small, unhabitable state like Ebonyi. Lagos is an entirely different country on its own thanks to progressive-minded govs it has had over time.
