– Troops say they were attacked inside Sambisa forest
by the terrorists
– Army spokesperson informs that wounded soldiers
have since been evacuated
– Affirms that morale of the soldiers remain high after
the challenge
At least five soldiers have been wounded in action
following an attack by Boko haram terrorists on
Saturday, May 14.
NAIJ.com gathered that although the troops repelled the
attack, about five of their men had sustained various
degrees of injuries by the terror group.
Some of the ammunition recovered from the terrorists
during the attack.
A statement issued by Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman,
the military spokesperson reads: “Troops of 21 Brigade
and rugged team of Armed Forces Special Forces (AFSF)
on Operation CRACKDOWN inside Sambisa forest while on
harbour for refitting, came under Boko Haram terrorists
attack at about 1.45am today morning.
“However, the gallant troops successfully repelled the
attack. They further followed up with mopping up
operations of the general area before advancing. They also
recovered 2 corpses of the attackers and the following
items; 2 AK-47 rifles, 2 Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG)
bombs, 5 rifle magazines, mortar bombs and a belts of
Machine Gun rounds.
Another set of ammunition recovered by the Nigerian
troops.
“Unfortunately 5 soldiers were wounded in action (WIA), as
a result of mortar fired into the harbour area by the Boko
Haram terrorists. The wounded soldiers have been
evacuated to the rear for treatment.
“Despite this incident, the morale of the gallant troops
remains very high as they are determined to successfully
clear Boko Haram terrorists.”
This report comes after the Nigerian army said it has
arrested a top Boko Haram leader during a recent raid.
Sulaiman Umaru, the arrested leader of the Islamist
sect, is among the pictures on the poster containing the
photographs of 100 Boko Haram terrorists declared
wanted.
He has since been moved to 28 task force brigade
headquarters for further investigation. |

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has assured state
governors that workers across the country will embark on a
strike action if the N18,000 minimum wage is reduced.
NLC President Ayuba Wabba maintains that Organized
Labour will resist any attempt by state governors to stop
the payment of the minimum wage.
“Governors should prepare for the mother of all battles.
They should not underestimate the resolve of the NLC to
protect the interest of workers. We will shut government in
any state where the governors stop payment of N18,000
minimum wage. What is N18,000 that these governors say
they can’t pay. Some of them spend more than N100,000 to
feed their dogs, lions and other pets they keep monthly. If
they can feed animals with N100,000, why can’t they pay
their fellow human beings, an average worker, N18,000
monthly. It is an insult, we are not going to take it.”
Wabba also spoke on the lingering fuel crisis, the clamour
for petrol subsidy removal, and the proposal for a new
national minimum wage.
The labour leader said it was shocking that the governors
are entertaining the idea of cutting the minimum wage,
in spite of the obvious hardship faced by majority of
Nigerians.
“We are still in a state of shock that our governors could
make such pronouncement. What is N18,000 in view of the
current economic challenges in the country? Speaking
realistically, what is N18,000 in a month? We were thinking
that these governors will make an upward review of the
minimum wage, but what we got in return was a shock.
N18,000 is not a living wage, and our leaders know this and
yet they are saying they can’t pay it.
“Are Nigerian workers fools? It is not as if the governors
don’t have the wherewithal to pay this money, their problem
is that of misplaced priorities. There are a lot of leakages in
the system which, when blocked, will ensure that governors
have more than sufficient funds to pay workers – look at
the duplication of political offices and appointees by many
state governors. What about jumbo salaries these political
appointees collect every month? They run into hundreds of
millions of naira.
“Why should the NLC now fold its arms and allow workers
to be made sacrificial lambs by the governors? Never. Some
of these governors, apart from living opulent lifestyles, have
also embarked on projects that have no relevance to the
lives of the people. The cost of governance should, at all
levels, be drastically cut down. The hundreds of billions of
naira our public office holders fritter away in the name of
governance is what is not sustainable.
He further revealed that although they might embark on
strike, they are open to dialogue but the sustenance of
N18,000 minimum wage is non-negotiable.
“We are even planning to demand for an upward review of
the minimum wage in view of the present economic
hardship. Many states are in the poor financial state they
are in today largely on the developmental choices they
have, largely on the basis of priorities they have chosen
which has nothing to do with public good.
“We insist that workers salaries can’t be sacrificed on the
altar of the challenges of the economy which is not the
making of workers. It has never happened in the history of
our country and it will not be said that it is during our
leadership of the NLC that this calamity was allowed to
happen to workers.
“The governors should reorder their priorities and, instead of
going cap in hand to Abuja at the end of every month to
collect allocation, they should look inwards to increase their
internally generated revenue, IGR.” 1 Like |

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested two of its five staff involved in the November 20 robbery of N310 million from a Bureau De Change, in Abuja. While two DSS staff have been arrested, the three remaining gang of robbers are at large. According to Tony Opuiyo, DSS spokesperson, “the Military Authorities have commenced a detailed investigation of five (5) of its personnel involved in the crime.” “Preliminary investigations have revealed that Abdulrasheed Ahmadu Maigari of the DSS, conspired with four other colleagues of his namely: Solomon Inusa, Peter Okoye, Patrick Ishaya and George Mwatapwa Ibbi, to carry out this reprehensible act. The five military personnel were led by one Capt. Hussein Ishaku MSHELIA. Meanwhile, the Service has arrested Maigari and Ibbi and Mshelia equally arrested by the Army authorities. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend those still at large.” “A total of Sixty-Six Million Four Hundred and Thirty Seven Thousand, Four Hundred and Forty-five Naira (N66,437,445.00) and Six Thousand Two Hundred Dollars ($6,200) have so far been recovered, while efforts are being made to recover the remaining amounts. It is to be noted that security agencies now act in concert, thus the joint investigation undertaken with the Police, Army and the DSS. 1 Like 1 Share |
