Properties / Re: Current Prices Of Building Materials In Nigeria by MolarMols: 9:44pm On Nov 30, 2012
thanks to all that have responded to my question

It seems the better option is to get a building engineer or someone that knows what they are doing to sort it out. Make i no go cause problem for myself and everybody.

@Brabus, i'll take you up on that

@derus, Ogombo is in the ajah axis

@dagreen14, thanks for the links - i'm still reading

@euromillion, I'm not based in Nigeria but going to see to things make dem no go shave my head

@bugmenot, advice taken. Mine is on the left side coming from the express not far from the primary school. Make me sef fit do foundation like you at least

@gabolz, i will avoid trying to even cordinating the casting session altogether. Key thing is to find a sincere person like Brabus said

Hello my experienced and learned nairalanders.

Sorry for hijacking this thread to ask a question but I'm hoping that someone here can answer my question.

i have a foundation to do in Januray but i'm not sure whcih way to go for casting the foundation and floor. I've had suggestions to either hire the concrete mixer and gather labourer's and bricklayers to do this or negotiate with a contractor to arrange everything and i pay a fee.

Which one do you guys think? Bear in mind that I dont know very much about construction and I'm self project managing.

The site is at Ogombo

Thanks in advance for your responses

Well said diordaves

i think we should all take an example from here on how to have constructive debates and not argue our points personally.

@Am Alone

I think you've misunderstood some of the things the people have said. The point is not that you cant spend money IF you have it and HOW you like it. It is the fact that we might be building and using materials that we do not need

As an example, if you are a man/woman that will surely never drive at 200 mph and you are not after speed, why would you buy a bugatti veron and ask for the engine to be tuned up so that you can pay the highest possible rate when all you need is a basic one.

I dont know much about building but i have learnt a lot from ALL the posts that have been put up here. My deductions are that some of us due to the fact that we dont really know end up using more material than we require pushing our costs up. I'm sure fort knox would not have been built the same way you'd build a bungalow.

The point about POP is not that there are no good ones or its a waste of money, it was that some (Not all) are not pleasant and its in the name of luxury

I am still enjoying this thread even though i just read silently and learn. I am sure there are loads of people out there like me. You have done a fantastic job and i can see your house taking shape. I cant wait to see it finished, Well done!!!

calculusx:

spyder880:I think this breakdown can do my decking;

1x12x12 planks 100 x 750 = N75k
2x3x12 poline 50 x 250 = 12,500
bamboo sticks                 = N5k
nails (assorted)                 =15k
rods (all types)                =140k
sand x 3 trips                  =15k
gravel x 4 trips               =48k
Midas02 link=topic=606079.msg8082947#msg8082947 date=1302289657:

Here is a website that lists building material prices

However I am not sure how much of this prices are still current and up to date??

If anyone knows, let us know what has changed and what hasn't. I know that cement is now N1800 - N2000 per bag.

http://www.nigeriapropertiesonline.com/price_quotes.php
cement x 70 bags x 1900 =133k
transportation               =20k
labour for carpenters    =60k
labour for iron benders  =25k
labour for pouring         =35k
engineering supervision     15k
entertainment after the decking 5k

A total of N603,500.00. This is just the estimate, but I think it will cost a lot less, I was just being generous with this estimate. By the time I get down to the field and wear my haggling cap, prices will tumble. I will negotiate like a mad man and even go out to meet new suppliers and workmen. This decking must be done with N500k or a little more.

 I dove my hat for you oooo, lol. Do you know i have never heard of anywhere a decking was done for 600k before but seeing the above i believe its possible only if you know and understand the whole process,no bricklayer and carpenter can drain you, My 2 hands are up for you. If i may ask,is it the same laborers that started it will finish this job cos you must have cut down all their corny ways of embezzling the owner.

@ calculusx and Midas02

can you guys please give me contact details for cement as the price im getting at the moment is 2300. i also need to buy block, they've told me that 9*9 vibrated block is 180. can anyone help please?
