Politics / Should Atiku Resign? by MrBassey: 5:37am On Sep 14, 2006
In view of the overwhelming report on the conduct of the VP, Abubakar Atiku, so you think the expedient thing for him to do is to resign his position as VP?

Check this blog out - nigerianpolity..com, it makes a good arguement.

Religion / Re: I Do Not Believe in God by MrBassey: 8:00am On Jan 07, 2006
Belief in the supernatural is diametrically opposed to logical reasoning since it cannot be verified scientifically. It takes a lot of candour however to announce your lack of belief, especially in such an overwhelmingly spiritually inclined society as Nigeria. You are regarded like a pariah just for broaching the topic.

There are so many versions of spirituality and religious deity-based beliefs, be it monotheic ones like christianity, islam and judaism, or polytheic ones such as hinduism, buddhism and the hundreds of variant traditional African beliefs. It boggles the mind to contemplate which one out of these various religions is the right one.

Also, the premises on which the beliefs are based are outrageous and far-fetched were one to measure them through basic scientific analysis. Any self respecting scientist and non-self delusional and intelligent observer is sure to draw the conclusion that there is no scientific basis for postulating the existence of the supernatural, not to mention adducing our existence to the will of such precepts.

Having said this as a scientist, the question lingers though, if there is no scientific evidence of the supernatural, how then do we explain our being and consciousness, and ability to ponder our very existence? Any good scientist would argue however that the fact that there is no evidence does not completely rule out the non-existence of the supernatural, no matter how highly improbable it is. It however also does not warrant subscribing to the simplistic and fantastic argument put forth by the various popular main stream religions. It simply means we as intelligent beings should continue to seek scientific answers to the mysteries that surround us. Perhaps if we understand the four basic forces of nature, namely, a) the weak nuclear forces, b) the strong nuclear forces, c) gravity and d) electromagnetism and how they relate through a Grand Unifying Theory, we stand a better chance of understanding the universe and perhaps the mind of "God."

Politics / Re: If Obj Stays: Who's Fault ? by MrBassey: 5:22pm On Jan 03, 2006
If OBJ stays, it will be the fault of the law makers who amend the constitution to allow for it.

I agree with Akolowole, violence for it's sole sake does not beget anything but more violence. As such, it should be reserved as a last resort. What we can all do now is communicate by writing letters to our representatives in congress letting them know our will. We put them there to represent us, and if they do not do our will then we will austrasize them and put someone else in their places. We can actually recall them, if we feel they are betraying our trust.

But then again, if the majority of Nigerians feel that OBJ should remain in power then we deserve what we caveat. But the caveat is that what is good for the gander is good for the goose, so we can have an undesirable president at the helm for 3 terms too.
Romance / Re: Ugly Intelligent Girl or Beautiful Dull Girl? by MrBassey: 10:32pm On Jan 01, 2006
Most men will be lured by beauty. But what about character? You can have a beautiful dull girl with good character, a beatiful dull girl with bad character, a smart ugly girl with good character or a smart ugly girl with bad character.

I most definitely want my partner to be presentable and that includes in beauty, mind and character. If both girls have bad character, I will remain a bachelor. If the ugly smart girl has bad character and the beautiful girl has good character, I will still remain a bachelor. If however the smart ugly girl has a good character, I will chose her only after contacting the world's best plastic surgeons and beauticians to see if a total extreme body make over will transform her into a 36D bust, 28 waist and 36 hip paragon of beauty with a face that can stop a thousand ships, teeth as white as snow and skin as smooth and soft as a boby's bottom. If their answer is "yes" then the smart ugly girl is mine.

Three things I can't stand in women - dumness, uglyness and bad character.

Politics / Re: What Is The Nigeria of Your Dreams Like? by MrBassey: 9:28pm On Dec 31, 2005
Lagbaja,

E be like say you dey describe Utopia.

It is not yet uhuru in Nigeria, but we are on the way if we don't derail off our present course. Let us first of all entrench civic responsibility, integrity patratriotism in the body politic. There are still too many self-serving, if not out right rogues in positions of power and control of public funds, into which they dip their grubby fingers - Alams, Tafa and Marwa to name some of those that have been recently indicted. Until this is done, hell stands a better chance of freezing over than a Nigerian discovering the cure for HIV. That reminds me! What happened to those charlatans who claimed they could cure AIDS? I mean Abalaka and Tope Joshua. I hope they know that Karma would eventually catch up with despoilers of the soul.

Happy New Year

Your Brother in Nigerianhood.

Dear President Obasanjo,

Well done this past year. You did well with our $18billion debt relief, and all the activities of EFCC. Keep up the good work.

My only advise to you is that you make a definitive statement that you will not be staying in office past 2007 as prescribed by the constitution you swore to uphold. Everybody in the world holds you in high regard because you handed over to a democratically elected government in 1979. This singular act earned you a place forever in history as the first Nigerian leader, and indeed one of the first in all of Africa to voluntarily cede power. For this alone you are put on the same pedestal as great leaders like Mandela and Julius Nyerere.

Please, I beg you, do not taint this laudable status that you enjoy by hearkening to the call of good-for-nothing sycophants who's intent for wanting you to sit tight is driven by selfish ends. Especially the call by those thieving low-life jerks in the state government houses who debase the honourable office of "governor" by their shameful and debauched acts. They want to perpetuate themselves in office so they can continue to enjoy the protection of that warped kink in our constitution - "immunity for governors".

OBJ, I trust you to do what is right. Great leaders, and your good friends like Jimmy Carter and Andrew Young will be disappointed in you if you sit tight. Besides, you will be put in the same category as rogue leaders like Mobutu and Abacha if you chose to sit tight. This will be a betrayal to many of us your ardent supporters.

Do the right thing. Make a definitive statement to put those mangy mongrels seeking your downfall to shame.

Your great fan,

Mr Bassey
