Two women were arraigned in court after being accused of drugging man and stealing his money.

The suspects identified as Joyce Britney and Florence Wangare allegedly committed the offence on Thursday, January 17, at Ngei estate in Lang’ata, Nairobi, Kenya.

The two who were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi denied charges of administering a stupefying substance and stealing.

The charge sheet indicated the two suspects administered a stupefying chemical substance known as Rohypnol to Fredrick Omondi.

They allegedly took advantage of Omondi’s stupor to transfer KSh 1, 940, 000 from his Stanbic bank account. Britney and Wangare transferred the money to their various accounts at Equity and Family banks besides M-Pesa accounts.

The prosecution also preferred joint charges of conspiracy to stupefy with intention to steal to the the two women.

Britney faced additional charges after she was found with seven one-milligram tablets of Rohypnol and Omondi’s phone and ATM card worth KSh 23,000.

She faced electronic fraud, stealing and handling stolen property in contravention to the penal code.

She denied the charges and was granted KSh 1 million bond with an alternative KSh 300,000 cash bail.

Wangare also denied the charges and was granted a KSh 500,000 bond and alternative cash bail of KSh 200,000.

As a deadly fire ravaged through her home on Thursday night, in Bakersfield, California, a lady identified as Kristina Stratton, made the ultimate sacrifice and saved her four children.

Stratton ran into the two-story house to rescue her children, but the 38-year-old mother of five didn't make it out alive. Firefighters found her dead inside the house during the rescue operation.

Stratton's five children are now left without a mother, and her three youngest children are now orphans. Four years ago, her husband and the father of three of her children died of cancer. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.

Veteran actor, Tajudeen Oyewole, popularly known as Abija, became famous in the Nigerian movie industry in the 80s and early 90s for his roles as herbalist in movies.

However, fast forward to the present day and it seems the once vibrant actor’s name has been consigned to oblivion as he has not been as visible on the television screen as he used to be.

In a chat with Saturday Beats, he said some people used to think he was an herbalist because of the roles he played in movies.

“People often ask if I am an herbalist in real life because of my routine roles in movies, even though I have a background in Ifa divination, I am not an herbalist. People in my neighbourhood would call me Abija; they used to be scared of me in real life but I always told them I was not a diabolical and that it was just acting. My roles as Abija were my best performances; interestingly, I can handle any role in the movie industry.

“When I don’t dress in my attire as Abija, some people don’t recognise me. It still pains me that I didn’t further my education; at this age even though I want to go back to school, it is too late because I have to cater for my wife and children. It was quite difficult for my parents to accept my choice of career; they felt it was only stubborn people that used to act in movies. They were only convinced when I started becoming famous.

“I am happy about the positive developments in the movie industry; things have really improved compared to when I started. The youngsters in the entertainment industry have really helped in making the industry bright,” he said.

He also added that the government should put more effort into combating piracy in the industry.

“The government should help the movie industry because piracy has really affected its growth. If they can help, artisans will be able to get reasonable monetary value for their sweat. If the industry becomes more lucrative, when a colleague needs financial help, others would be able to render help. Presently, aside from acting, I travel to the North to get meat to sell to people that have made requests for it.

“My wish this year is that I complete my building project. I have lost some things in the past, and I pray that God will recover them for me. For example, there was a time I was involved in an accident some years back, some people thought I was dead because of how damaged the car was,” he added.

A man has taken to his Facebook page to post on how he is going to commit suicide if Buhari loses the coming Presidential election.

In a post, which has since gone viral as it has been shared several times, the man wrote that he will commit suicide before the swearing in of the new President as he won’t be able to bear living under the Atiku Presidency:

If Buhari lose the February 16th Presidential election, I will commit suicide before May 29th because I can’t afford to live under Atiku Presidency. So help me God.

The Anambra State Police Command have commenced investigation into the cause of the murder-suicide committed by a man identified as Daniel Okafor after bathing his wife, Pauline, with acid on Tuesday at Nsugbe, near Onitsha.

According to reports, the couple had been having disagreement concerning the choice of their son as the next of kin on a land and a house which was recently purchased by the wife.

Pauline, a nurse, bought the properties from her in-law and named their son as next of kin but this didn't go well with her husband who then decided to punish her. Pauline was in her place of work, a drug store, when the husband came in through the fence to bathe her with acid. She then ran out for help.

The suspect reportedly drank some of the chemical he had poured on his wife minutes after committing the crime. He was taken to the hospital but died while receiving treatment.

It was gathered that the victim was also referred to the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi, from the Immaculate Heart Hospital, Onitsha, where she is currently responding to treatment.
