He then paid the okada man more than he asked for for the trip and as he made to leave, the Okadaman discovered his man hood was missing.
He ran after the Indian man and started shouting which attracted the attention of others and his fellow okada riders. They even started beating him without anyone confirming. Na wa!

Nairaland / General / Kaduna Govt Orders Closure Of Assemblies Of God Church Followng Leadershipcrisis by mrlizo: 5:56pm On Sep 16, 2015
The Kaduna State Security Council at its 15th meeting, held on the 15th September, 2015, deliberated on the leadership crisis in the Assemblies of God Church in AGC Saminaka District, Lere local government area of the state. The council discussed this matter in the context of preventing threats to the peace and stability of the State.
The Council noted that the leadership crisis has led to disintegration of order in the church, and raised tensions between the followers of the rival camps. The crisis has also widened to the students of the church-owned school and seminary, who are now split and divided on factional lines.
The Council reviewed previous efforts made to resolve the crisis. It noted that these were aborted by those involved in the leadership tussle, principally to preserve their personal interests with little concern for the common good, and the peace and security of Kaduna State.
The Council unanimously agreed that if left unchecked, the growing tension may degenerate into total breakdown of law and order in the said area, with the potential to spread to other parts of the state.
Therefore, the Council has taken steps to preserve the peace. It has unanimously directed the immediate closure of the following:
Theological Seminary of Northern Nigeria, (TSNN) Saminaka.
Shalom Comprehensive College, Saminaka
Assemblies of God Church, Nmbare, Saminaka and
Assemblies of God Church (Jerusalem) Saminaka
AGC Evangelist Hospital, Saminaka
As a result of these measures, those who may be affected will be admitted into government schools or hospitals, if they exercise the option.
The Council also directed that the status quo with regard to farmlands, houses and other assets of the church be upheld pending resolution of the leadership crisis, which is a matter before the Supreme Court.
Kaduna State Government wishes to reiterate that it will not tolerate the use of religion and ethnicity to cause crisis in the state. The government has also announced that it will prosecute anyone, no matter his or her standing, that is implicated in fomenting crisis in whatever form in the State.
Signed.

Nairaland / General / Unilorin Best Graduating Student In Search Of A Good Job 6 Years After Graduatio by mrlizo: 5:40pm On Sep 16, 2015
University of Ilorin’s best graduating student from the Faculty of Education in 2009, Ruth Idi Okpoto now Mrs Ruth Omopariola-Bolarinwa, a deaf lady, has cried out for help after searching for a good and well paying job six years after she graduated from school.

In an email she sent to Education Review & obtained by The Sun, Ruth who is now a married mother of one, narrated her fruitless efforts in searching for a well paying job. She shared on how tribalism, nepotism and her deafness have militated against her getting a job that will tally with her educational qualification. She says she currently works at a school in Ogun state where she coordinates the PTA group. She called on her alma mata, Exxon Mobil and others to help her with a job. Excerpts of the email after the cut…
“To set the record straight I am not a deaf-mute. Not all deaf people are dummies. I am a bilingual deaf person with a mild hearing loss. I became deaf in 1997 at the age of 15 while in SS 1 at Dairy Farm Secondary School, Lagos. I have already acquired language proficiency before the sickness that caused my hearing loss started then. After the illness, I discovered I couldn’t hear very well whenever people talk to me unless I read their lips. Despite this hearing difficulty, I continued my education at the school.
“At a point, I confided in the Vice Principal (Academic) Deaconess Afolabi but she didn’t believe me because according to her I could speak and hear her. She decided to check my academic records but was surprised to realize how brilliant I was as a deaf person. From there, she showed interest in me and adopted me. She later introduced me to her husband – Pastor Toye Afolabi. They supported me to further my education at Kwara State College of Education, Oro, in 1999, after the completion of my SSCE. I lived and grew up under their loving care for more than 15 years till I got married in 2011.
“When I got admissions into University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), they encouraged and supported me. I did not even know sign language then but I excelled at the College where I studied Agriculture. I did my IT at the Lagos State Agriculture Development Authority without the help of any interpreter. I have a good rapport with people. Some people think I am pretending to be deaf whenever I tell them about it because of the way I relate with them. I didn’t attend any special school but I learnt the skill of sign language while teaching at Christian Mission School for the Deaf at Ibadan in 2003.
“I am physically, mentally, emotionally and morally sound, and very assertive. I love interacting with people but I don’t like to be taken for granted. Intellectually, I like reading and researching. I also love playing football. Mind you, I am still playing football even now as a nursing mother. My friend used to call me Tomboy in those days because I like doing what boys do. I love tasks that challenge my intellect. My husband and I have similar condition. He is deaf but he can speak English fluently. We are both qualified graduates from University of Ilorin. He is, at present, working with Ogun State Teachers Service Commission.
“I scored a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.45. That was the score I saw on the result sheet in the first semester of my final year. After the completion of my study I graduated with a second class honour (Upper Division).
“On the efforts made so far to get a good job, I had wanted to work with the University of Ilorin. There is a lecturer at the Faculty of Education, I was so fond of her even till today. Leaving her was, indeed, a difficult challenge for me. The affection I have for her made my desire to work in the university stronger and that was what motivated me to do my NYSC in the institution. The lecturer is now a professor. I was then lucky to serve at the newly established Centre for Peace and Strategic Studies (CPSS) headed by her (Prof. Olasehinde Williams). Before the completion of my NYSC, I wrote a letter requesting to be retained but got no response then.
“After the completion of my one mandatory youth service, I continued to apply for job whenever the university released vacancies. I think I have done so thrice. The former Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, was making attempt to employ me based on my application which was submitted to him in 2012/2013. I later learnt that he was about to do that before his tenure expired. I wrote a letter explaining the situation to the new Vice Chancellor (Prof. Ambali) in 2013 and, in fact, re-applied last year but the vacancy was put on hold.
“Another opportunity came when ex-President Goodluck Jonathan gave disabled people employment opportunity in 2013. I joined others to apply and traveled with my husband to Abuja for the interview in November. My daughter was just seven months old when I embarked on the journey with her. The selection process was based on our qualification and I had the faith that I would be selected since I was the only applicant with second class honour (Upper Division) among the deaf applicants from Ondo State. I was disappointed when my name did not appear on the list of those shortlisted due to what I will call “connection, godfatherism and tribalism syndrome” which has become a social norm in Nigeria as far as employment is concerned. If the Ondo Commissioner had selected us based on merit, there is no way I would not be qualified since there was no written test or oral interview.
“My surname, Okpoto, must have affected me because that was the name on my credentials but having married a man from that state the Commissioner should have considered me qualified. I regretted not applying through the Delta State Commission as I would have been given the job then. The most painful aspect of this experience was the refusal by the Commissioner to give my husband, an indigene of the state, his posting/appointment letter. Initially, his name was on the list but was later short-changed with someone else known to the Commissioner.
“Another instance where tribalism and connection really affected me was at the Lagos State Scholarship Board exam in 2004/2005. The then governor Asiwaju Bola Tinubu had forwarded my application for oversea scholarship to the board for immediate action. The Director of the board (Mr. Badmus) told me that I was not born in Lagos because of my surname (Okpoto). I told him I was born and bred in Lagos but he refused to treat the letter. The institution abroad (Rochester Institute of Technology), had awarded me scholarship for only tuition fee but I could not raise funds to cover other expenses. Life is indeed full of experiences but I will never give up.
“As noted above, a situation where political connection, godfatherism and tribalism are used as yardsticks for recruitment is psychologically and emotionally disturbing. Imagine the stress I passed through traveling to Abuja from Ibadan with a seven-month old baby for the civil service interview. This is too bad! But I believe that life goes on! Things will change for the better now that President Muhammad Buhari is making effort to sanitize the system. The Disability Rights Bill is long overdue. The President should, please, assent to the bill to protect the employment and fundamental rights of persons with disabilities.
“At the moment I am living with my husband and managing to work as employee of Parent Teachers Association in a school in Ogun State. The monthly take-home pay is meagre. But what more can I do? I have tried so many places without any result. Everywhere I go, some people would ask some funny questions like “you are from where?” “You do not look like a Yoruba”, “Your father’s name is an Igbo name.” Deafness is another barrier as the society does not want to employ deaf and disabled people. They usually experience employment discriminations due to their disability. But disability is not inability! There is nothing the deaf cannot do. The only difference between us and our hearing counterparts is our inability to hear which in my own case is partial. The society especially employers of labour should know that deafness is not an insurmountable barrier to success. I can teach. I can lead. I can do mathematical calculations etc. What is more? Let the society try us first and see what we can do.
“I can work in government ministries, agencies and parastatals as well as private companies in administrative capacity. My computer skill is also an added advantage. As a holder of first degree in Educational Guidance and Counseling, I can provide counseling service for young people. Apart from the university job, I can work in oil companies like ExxonMobil or in telecommunication companies like GLO, MTN, Etisalat or Airtel, in the area of computer operation, data processing and network or in any other administrative duty that may be assigned to me.
“I am still searching for a good job and I am pleading with the University of Ilorin management to help me. I don’t think the University has abandoned me. I guess the new Vice Chancellor is not aware of the fact that I served at the university and I am not sure if he received my appeal letter. The former Vice Chancellor was working on my application before his tenure ended in 2013, so I think the new Vice Chancellor in the person of Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali should reopen my case as regarding employment. I appreciate my parent/pastor Deacon Toye Afolabi, Prof Alasehinde Williams, Prof. Omotosho, Prof Adegoke, Dr. Esere etc for their efforts in assisting me.
“To be honest with you, having good job will make it possible for me to achieve my goals and give back to society. It is my dream to become a lecturer so with good job I will be able to save money to further my education. I need to go back to school for my masters and PHD. I also want to set up an NGO that will empower disabled people especially young ones that are not educable to acquire vocational skills that will make them self-reliant and to contribute meaningfully to the growth of their fatherland rather than roaming the streets and begging for money. An adage says: “if you give a child a fish, you feed him for a day. But if you teach him how to fish, you feed him for a lifetime. I want to assist young people to have the financial muscles to feed themselves for a lifetime. I also have a business plan in mind but there is no money to get started. I believe with good job I can achieve all these.”

Nairaland / General / Why For E Play Should Be The Most Important Part Of Your S Ex Life by mrlizo: 5:21pm On Sep 16, 2015
Here are vital reasons why you must ind ulge in for e play to have an amazing s ex life.

It is no gainsaying that for most men in this parts, s ex involves getting an e rect ion, jumping on the woman. hu mp ing about and roll off to sleep, even before the woman is yet to enter second gear.
Most men think about s ex and have an e rect ion, but for most women, wanting s ex is not enough. For them, for e play serves a physical and emotional purpose, helping prepare both mind and body for s ex.
Many women need to be k issed, hu gged, and care ssed to create lu bri cation in the v@ gi n@, which is important for comfortable inter course.
It’s particularly important for women to have successful for e play because it takes a woman a longer time than a man to get up to the level of a rou sal needed to or g@sm.
For e play also helps the cli to ris fulfil its “O” so important role. It has the same characteristics as the pen is.
today, we give you the reasons why you should indulge in more for e play to have that amazing s ex life you have always wanted to have.

What is for e play?
For e play is that delicious love ma king you do before you move on to inter course itself. It is especially important for women to get their v@ gi n@’s wet and slippery, and to get them ready for real s ex.
For e play Dos:
Know the hot spots
During for eplay, do not focus on the pen is and the v@ gin@ only. Every person has different hot spots. And stro king, ki ssing, ni bbling or lic king those hot spots feels amazing and is a real turn on.
Try the ni pples, the neck, ears, back and bu tt ock$. But everyone is different, so be creative when you explore your part ner’s body. Maybe your partner likes having the armpits stro ked or feet played with, so you can work on these extra-sensitive spots.
And keep ex ploring – don’t rely on the trusted hot spots alone. Surprise your partner by going to unexpected places. Now that’s a turn on!

Mix it up

Nothing is more boring than doing the same routine every time. Deep kiss, hand on br ea$t, some stroking of the pen is, and that’s it. Instead, be creative! Try different things! Tease your partner with your touch, your lips, your mouth. You can even use some props, like feathers or gloves.

Use some lu be for new sensation. Keep an eye at your part ner’s body language to find out if they like what you are doing. If they do: keep going. If they don’t: try something different.

The key is not to make it boring and predictable. Keep surprising your partner, that’s the key to amazing for e play and great s ex!

Spoil each other

Nothing feels nicer than to be spoiled by your partner, so take the time to do that. Cu ddle, kiss and str oke without demanding anything in return. Get the mass age oil out and give your partner a nice and relaxing shoulder rub. Sensual touch feels great and may get your partner in the mood, even if they weren’t up to s ex a few minutes ago.

But don’t let your expectations get the better of you – sometimes, a nice cud dling session is just that, and won’t lead to s ex. Don’t sulk, but instead look forward to next time!

For e play Don’ts

Don’t Rush

For e play is especially important for women. Once men have an e rec tion, they are pretty much ready to go but women on the other hand, need some time to get in the mood, both emotionally and physically.

Their v@ gi n@s need to get wet, so that it won’t hurt when the pen is slips inside. So rushing it is not a good idea if both of you want enjoyable, pain and cringe-free s ex!

What’s more, many women don’t regularly have an or ga$m during inter course, which maybe, means for e play time is or ga$m time! Especially if you are kind of partner who tends to roll over and snore after his own cli max, rather than taking the time to plea sure you.

Having said all this, sometimes rushing can be great! Skipping the for e play and having a ‘quic kie’ can be a real turn-on for both partners.

Don’t Overdo It

It is generally accepted that for e play is fun, great and important. But does that mean you should keep going, and going, and going as long as you can? Well, not if you want to have inter course too. Which isn’t compulsory, it must be said.

But especially if the man has some trouble with coming sooner than he’d like, having steamy for e play for a long time could mean that he will e ja cu late before the woman moves on to intercourse, or come straight away when you do. Or on the other hand, he could try to hold back but e ja cu late just a little bit and then have trouble cli m@x ing ‘properly’ later on.

There is no perfect amount of time for for e play; everyone is different, and some days, you may feel like more for e play than on other days.

Don’t think that for e play only happens in bed

For e play doesn’t have to begin...See the full details here-->>>>> http://www.gisthubng.com/?p=5570
Religion / Pastor Chris Okotie’s Bombshell: Why Catholics Will Go To Hell by mrlizo: 11:56am On Dec 02, 2013
“All Catholics in the world will go to hell because they worship Satan and are led by an Anti-Christ Pope who is a friend to the devil”, Nigeria’s controversial preacher and former presidential candidate, Chris Okotie, told his congregation on Sunday, leaving members bewildered.
“They don’t believe in heaven. They believe in purgatory, the purgatory that they invented,”
Fifty-five year old Okotie, while preaching in his Household of God Church in Ikeja area of Lagos on Sunday, said the Catholic church is “a counterfeit church set up by Satan” and that Catholics “bow to idols and crucify Jesus every Sunday when they eat bread claiming they are eating Jesus’ body.”
Pastor Okotie stressed: “They are not Christians and have never been.” “They don’t know Jesus. They believe that when they eat bread on Sundays, they are eating the body of Jesus. It’s ritual,” he told his stunned congregation.
According to PM News, Okotie said Pope Francis is an Anti-Christ who does the job of the devil and that time is fast approaching when the Catholic church will pledge allegiance to Satan.
“The pope is an Anti-Christ and the Catholic church will soon declare for Satan. This is the end of times,” Okotie erupted.
He advised members of his church to come to the rescue of Catholics and evangelise them. This, he said, was not out of disrespect but out of respect for the word of God.
He said those who know the truth should bring it to those who do not know it in the Catholic Church.
Okotie said one of the Catholic most revered Popes, Pope John Paul 11, surrendered the Catholic Church to Mary, the earthly mother of Jesus Christ, instead of Jesus himself. He said even the current Pope Francis has also done same.
He said Catholics are not Christians and do not worship the same Christ that he preaches in his church, at least the one spoken about in the Bible.
Okotie said he did not write the Bible but it was clear to him that those in the Catholic church were lost and were heading to hell fire.
“That church, the Catholic church has been there for Satan and at the right time, they will declare for Satan,” Okotie said.
Okotie who has been married twice and divorced also twice said a beauty pageant will take place in his church next Sunday to select the most beautiful woman in his church.
He also said that Nigeria’s famous preacher Prophet T.B. Joshua is the son of the devil and his followers will go straight to hell.
But funny enough, in recent years, the same Pastor Okotie has been saying that God has anointed him to be the President of Nigeria. That prophecy has not come to pass in 2 presidential elections that he participated in.

Crime / How Naija Babe Stole Her Boyfriend’s Gold Necklace Hid It In Her Vagina by mrlizo: 10:08am On Dec 02, 2013
With Naija babes, shame is a scarce commodity. 26-year-old Tessy Emorvon, who stole a gold necklace from her guy, shocked operatives of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) in Lagos, when she suddenly dipped her fingers into her vagina and produced the N850,000 necklace after several days in detention.
Trouble started when Cosmos, her boyfriend, realized that the gold necklace that he wore while having sex with Tessy was missing. He immediately raised the alarm…
The occupants of the hotel, including Tessy, were arrested. They were all searched and the gold chain was not found. Not satisfied with their claim that they were not aware of where the gold chain was kept, Cosmos quickly alerted the police at Area F, Ikeja.
At the police station, Tessy insisted that she knew nothing about the stolen gold necklace. Having been detained for two days, she was granted bail while investigation continued.
But Tessy was immediately re-arrested by detectives at SARS, Ikeja when the owner of the necklace, Cosmos alerted them that his girlfriend who believed stole his necklace, had been granted bail.
The officer in-charge of SARS, SP Abba Kyari ordered his men to take Tessy in for their own tough process of interrogation. But terrified that she could be treated like an armed robber, Tessy quickly confessed and agreed to produce the golden necklace from where she had kept it.
The policemen however got the shock of their lives when she started undressing. Embarrassed, the officers asked if she had lost her senses and Tessy insisted that she was trying to bring out the necklace. She dipped her fingers inside her vagina and pulled out a piece of cotton wool soaked with blood.
To the surprise of all present, inside it was the stolen necklace.
Meanwhile, Cosmos said he had strong feelings that the gold necklace was with Tessy as she had threatened severally that she would disappear with it. “I have heard so much of the exploits of SARS, Ikeja, so I quickly rushed to the office and filed a fresh report when I learnt that they wanted to release her. Actually, she drugged me, before taking the necklace,” Cosmos added.
Confessing to her crime, Tessy said: “This man is very stingy and hardly pays well at the end of a hot sex session with him. He is actually my boyfriend and I have dated him for more than a year. Most of the time, he will have sex with me and go home giving excuses why he would not give me a kobo. I always let it go because I knew that at the end of the day, I would make money from other customers. Since he is the only one that I normally had sex with without condom, I was enjoying the relationship.
“Few days before the incident, he came with a gold necklace and told me that it was worth N850,000. I felt bad that a man who can afford to buy a necklace that’s worth that much could not give his girlfriend money for maintenance. The next day, he came with another necklace and at that point I made up my mind that I would steal it. He slept a lot after sex, so it was easy for me to take the necklace and hide it.

Naturally, I knew that they will strip me in an attempt to find the necklace, so I had no choice but to hide it in the safest place in my body. My vagina.”
Funny enough, Mr Cosmos is a married man. According to Tessy, “It was when the argument started that she got to know that Cosmos is a married man with children. His brother suddenly surfaced and accused him of abandoning his wife who is a nursing mother at home. I was so disappointed because, he had promised to marry me.”
Lagos State Police Command are yet to decide if Tessy will be charged to court or not.

Politics / Jonathan, Sambo Meet PDP Govs Over Defection by mrlizo: 8:44am On Dec 02, 2013
Two crucial meetings aimed at resolving the crisis in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party which led to the recent defection of five governors were held inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Sunday.
The first was between 11 governors and two deputy governors and Vice-President Namadi Sambo while the second was between President Goodluck Jonathan and the two remaining rebel governors - Sule Lamido (Jigawa ( and Babangida Aliyu (Niger).
While Jonathan met with the aggrieved governors inside the First Lady’s Conference Room in the Villa; Sambo and the other governors met in House Seven.
The Jonathan, Aliyu and Lamido’s meeting which ended at about 10.29pm was adjourned till Sunday.
The Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Chief Anthony Anenih, who briefed State House correspondents at the end of the meeting said Jonathan, and the rebel governors were happy that they were moving to restore confidence and trust in the PDP leadership.
“We have had our meeting presided over by the President with the Vice-President in attendance. We had useful meeting, the summary of it all is that we are happy that we are moving to restore confidence and trust. There will be a series of meetings between now and the weekend,” Anenih said.
Lamido restated his position that he would remain in the PDP.
“I stand by my principles which is one Nigeria which is based on law and order,” he said.
Aliyu also said he attended the meeting because he was still a member of the PDP.
Sambo, Wada, Imoke and Akpabio joined the meeting before it ended.
The meeting between the Vice –President, the other PDP governors and the two deputy governors had ended at about 8.30pm.
None of those who attended it was ready to speak with journalists.
When State House correspondents approached a factional chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State, he directed them to the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Governor Godswill Akpabio.
Akpabio, who said the meeting was at the instance of the Vice-President, declined to state what they discussed.
Sambo was joined at the meeting by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim and the Chief of Staff to the President, Chief Mike Oghiadomhe.
The other governors present at the meeting were Martins Elechi (Ebonyi), Sullivan Chime (Enugu), Idris Wada (Kogi), Jonah Jang (Plateau), Shehu Shema (Katsina), Emmanuel Uduaghan (Delta), Theodore Orji (Abia), Isa Yuguda (Bauchi), Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa), Liyel Imoke (Cross River).
The deputy governors of Niger and Kaduna were in attendance.
The governors drove to the venue in a group from the Akwa Ibom State Govenor’s Lodge in Abuja where they had met earlier.
Five of the seven rebel PDP governors – Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (Kano), Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto) and Murtala Nyako (Adamawa)- had last week defected to the APC.
At the meeting held by the 11 governors and the two deputy governors at the Akwa Ibom State Governor’s Lodge, before they headed for the Presidential Villa, five of their colleagues were not in attendance.
The five, who neither sent their deputies nor gave reasons for their absence, were Lamido, Garba Umar (acting Governor of Taraba State), Usman Dakingari ( Kebbi), Ibrahim Dankwambo( (Gombe) and Gabriel Suswam(Benue).
A source at the meeting told one of our correspondents that the 11 governors and two deputy governors took issues they discussed at Akwa Ibom State Governor’s Lodge to Sambo.
Topmost were the defection by Amaechi, Wamakko , Ahmed, Kwakwanso and Nyako and its implications for the PDP.
The source, who is one of the PDP governors, said that they also discussed how to stem the crises in the party and how to make sure that Aliyu and Lamido did not defect to the APC.
The source added, “The governors are not comfortable with the gale of defection in the party and that was why we decided to meet .When we leave here, we might meet with President Godluck Jonathan or Vice-President Namadi Sambo this(Sunday) evening.
“We need to reposition our party and that is what we are going to tell the President or the VP. “
He said they never thought that the aggrieved governors would ever defect to the APC,which they considered as arc enemy.
“We were astonished to hear that they have moved to the APC. It is bad and this implies that they are ready to team up with our enemies to send us out of power.”
It was also gathered that the governors accused the Bamanga Tukur-led National Working Committee of overheating the party by suspending chieftains without consultations and National Executive Committee meeting.
The governors, it was also gathered, lamented that the PDP NWC had refused to hold NEC meeting months after the August 31 mini-convention of the party.
Our source added, “We are not also happy about developments in the party.
“We are aware that no member of the party ought to be suspended more than a month and that it must therefore be ratified by NEC.
“But this NWC is just operating as if members are sole administrators of the party. They have refused to call for NEC meeting, yet they keep on suspending people without recourse to NEC and the constitution.
“We have not even ratified the Disciplinary Committee the NWC set up. This is wrong. We need to correct it.”
It was also gathered that the PDP governors discussed the issue of the economy, which they said was bad.
They allegedly said the opposition was already using the bad state of the economy to woo the electorate.

Nairaland / General / ASUU LATEST: How Members Are Mobilised Against Resuming Lectures by mrlizo: 8:35am On Dec 02, 2013
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the weekend embarked on mass mobilisation of members not to comply with the ultimatum by the Federal Government to resume lectures by December 4, 2013.
The members of the union were also directed not to sign any register that may be opened by their Vice Chancellors.
ASUU leaders directed all branches chairmen to find means of mobilising their members not to fall for the threats of the Federal Government, describing the threat as “empty”, pending the next National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the Union, which will be held in Minna.
The Chairmen were also advised not to hold public congresses in order to avoid any face off with police and security forces the government deployed to all institutions for the implementation of the December 4 deadline of re-opening.
ASUU have started using the short message service (SMS) and other social media platforms to reach out and to mobilise members not to succumb to the Federal Government’s threat.
The Nation published some of these SMS:
“Dear members, FG decision to threaten us with sack confirms our suspicion that FG may not be honest and can not be trusted. Don’t sucumb (sic) to this empty threat. The strike continues. We shall triumph again. Please, DO NOT SIGN ANY REGISTER. ALUTA CONTINUA- CHAIRPERSON”.
“Dear Congress member, I’m appealing we should stay calm and remain resolute. There is nothing wrong in asking govt to do what it says it will do immediately. ASUU is not making any new demands as the Minister is propagating Govt is only repeating a ‘one act play’ scripted by the IBB dictatorship in early 90s. It didn’t work then, and, it won’t work now ALL BRANCHES are intact. We cannot be intimidated!!! UNITED WE BARGAIN DIVIDED WE BEG!!! ALUTA CONTINUA”.
A professor at the Federal University of Technology Minna, who spoke with the newsmen on conditions of anonymity, expressed shock over the ultimatum:
“One is shocked by the deadline. If they sack all of us, government will go to Kasua Gwari to pack lecturers or pick Professors on the streets. It is a pity, our leaders are reckless.
“We are not moved by the ultimatum. We are waiting to see how they (govt) intend to wriggle itself out of the self inflicted problem. Do they know how the system runs? The era of intimidation is gone,” the university don stated.
At the same time, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and Enugu State University of Science and Technology are set for reopening.

Crime / We Drink Our Victims’ Blood, Governors, And Senators Sponsor Us – Boko Haram Mem by mrlizo: 2:59pm On Aug 18, 2013
His physique could hardly fit into the temperament of his persuasion. He is frail, he talks slowly and you would have no qualms passing him off as one naïve, harmless young man. But all that is a façade. Beneath it nestles a motivated terror.
Nasir Isiaku, 27, has zealous hatred for Christians. Hear him: “If we asked our victim, ‘Will you become a Muslim or not and he or she refuses, we will slaughter him like a goat…” He talked of himself as an Islamic warrior who delights in chopping off people’s head with a stroke of his dagger.

However, all of that was, according to him, up until he made a turnaround in a most dramatic way. Nasir Isiaku is from Gusau in Zamfara State. He said while still in the group, he killed many Christians when he reigned as second-in-command to a terrorist group that wages war against non-Muslims in northern Nigeria. The group, Shitte, is a Boko Haram franchise. “Our own group is called Shitte but we have the same agenda with the Boko Haram sect. You people have only been hearing of Boko Haram, but there are other deadly Islamic groups who are also part of Boko Haram sect,” he said, adding: “Whenever we heard that any of the sects was fighting Christians, we always joined them,”
He was speaking to a gathering of Christians recently of his activities as a member of the terror group. He also told of how he renounced what he called “the cult” where he drank his victims’ blood so their ghosts would not appear to him in dreams.
This is Isiaku’s testimony as he told it himself. We have slightly edited it, so as to preserve its narrative purity.
“I joined the Bafarawa Arabic Islamic Centre in 2010 and they were teaching us Arabic language. Every year, we take about 20 people to Iran for special training because our zonal headquarters is in Iran. Our own group is called Shitte but we have the same agenda with the Boko Haram sect. You people have only been hearing of Boko Haram, but there are other deadly Islamic groups that are also part of Boko Haram sect. I can count up to six of them that I’m very much aware of. Whenever we heard that any of the sects was fighting Christians, we always joined them. My own group has been an Islamic movement for a long time, even before I was born. It reigned in the north during the Abacha military regime and it has many branches in the north. We are in major northern states such as Kastina, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kano, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Zaria among others.
Sometimes, when we want to wreak havoc on Christians, we hire our own bus because we have our own weapons, which we use against the Christians. We usually join the Boko Haram sect whenever they wanted to fight the Christians or the soldiers because we usually hear that soldiers kill our Boko Haram brothers in Maiduguri, Yobe and Potiskum.
I used to be one of the most trusted hands in the group because I was a very obedient and loyal follower. I had my own secret office where I received delegates from our sponsors whenever our leader wasn’t around and where I attend to the needs of any of our members.
This is why I didn’t participate in many of our attacks against the Christians or the soldiers because I used to take care of the home front. Our leaders usually psyched us up, they brainwashed us to fight against Christians because they are enemies of Allah. They taught us that the more Christians we were able to kill, the more our chances of entering Alijonan (heaven).
Many of our trainings hold in the night, around 10pm. There is a bush around the school where we usually go for trainings.
Some aspects of the training we receive are not ordinary; we used to drink what one could call spiritual water because it is not ordinary water. We also used to receive strange visitors who were not equally ordinary humans. We receive the visitors in a strange way, our leaders used to summon them: they used to instruct us to recite some passages in the Quran and whenever we do that, the visitors would appear to us during those unholy hours. They could come in three or four. They appeared like humans but they are not humans. We know they are not humans. They usually fortify us with charms for the task before us. They used to instruct us to be strong and fight.
Our leaders also used to render a lot of assistance to support our cause. They bring a lot of money in a pick up van and asked us to use the money to buy guns. Many of our supplies come from the zonal headquarters and sometimes, there is a popular Bayelsa man who is, though a Christian, supporting our cause in cash and kind. I can’t remember his name now. The Bayelsa man gave us money and also supplied us with weapons for the mission.
I am the second in command in my camp in our group, and whenever our president travels to the headquarters in Iran, I used to coordinate the group and receive our sponsors on his behalf. This is why I am able to sit with the sponsors and know what happens.
We had vowed to first kill all Christians in Kaduna before dealing with others in the north. Whenever we take the spiritual water, we become more daring to do any evil. It makes us more dangerous and if we were annoyed at such moment, we could kill. The water also fortifies us against gunshots. When we have taken it, bullets will not harm us. Also, we get mystery ring from our leaders. About eight of us were selected for the ring, and that ring provides almost anything we asked from it. It is like a personal power for us.
I can’t recall the number of people I have killed. I don’t use gun most times. We usually use guns to shoot people on the leg. If we ask a victim: “Will you become a Muslim or not? And he or she refuses, we slaughter the victim like a goat. And after killing the victim, we collect his or her blood in a very small cup and then drink it. After drinking the blood, the victim’s ghost could not hunt us in dreams. That is what our leaders told us. And indeed, once we taste the blood of people we kill, we will not see them in our dreams.
Sometimes, when we don’t feel like drinking the blood from the cup, we used our fingers to touch the victim’s blood and taste it. It will still prevent ghost of victim from hunting us in dreams.
We used to kill Christians because we believe that by killing them, we will enter heaven at death. Our leaders used a Quranic passage that seems to support our action (Recites some Quranic lines). In interpretation, the passage says: “O you believers, you should not be friendly with your enemies.” ‘Believers’ here means we, the Muslims and ‘enemies’ are the Christians.
The leaders of our group and the sponsors are many. Our sponsors are wealthy Nigerians. They are in government, and many are past Nigerian leaders. If I mention their names, you would think I am just telling lies. We have governors, senators who sponsor us heavily. Our sponsors are many (Names mentioned are withheld). You wouldn’t believe some of them are really part of us. We usually invite them to the graduation of the students in the school. That is when many know them as part of us.
We have days we go to town to preach and win more members. On such days, we add a red cap to our white T-Shirt and trousers. On another occasion when we put on black caps, it means we won’t fight.
We have infiltrated the Nigerian forces. We have our members in the police and army. Those members help us a lot whenever we want to fight.
However, we are very secretive, my blood brother who was not a member didn’t know I was part of the sect. I kept my association with the sect secret from people close to me who don’t share our views about Christians. My father loved me very well.
Right from the time we attended Chachangi School, a lower school in my place, our Islamic instructors had been drumming it into our ears that we should tighten our belts to fight the Christians. They instructed us to always be armed, either with knife or gun. They even told us to have our own gun and get license for it.
My own area in Kaduna is Torumada, it is a haven for many Islamic terrorists in Nigeria. Before I joined the Shiite school, I took part in several fights in which we massacred many Christians. The Christians in Sokoto are most vulnerable to attacks from our people because they are just within our reach, but they have also been very lucky because a major Islamic cleric in the state is always pleading that we shouldn’t touch them.
We actually found out many places in Sokoto where Christians are living. One of them is Ota Road, but in order to respect our Islamic cleric, we haven’t touched them.
Boko Haram has their men trained in Afganistan. I don’t know if you have been hearing about the Taliban, those who sacrifice their lives through suicide bombing. The Talibans are the ones who are training Boko Haram men. I know Boko Haram usually have about 60 men who go for training in Afganistan. They train them on how to go on suicide bombing, make their own bombs and fight and do other dangerous things. They also provide them with sophisticated weapons such as bombs and all that.
Since I gave my life to Christ, I have been getting several attacks from the cult. There was a Thursday evening in Sokoto, I was supposed to go to vigil with a roommate named brother Matthew. He asked me to go with him but I declined, saying I was tired. When it was well into the night, I suddenly heard a loud, disturbing knock on the door. The voice that called out to me resembled that of brother Matthew. It said that I should open the door. The man actually spoke in Hausa, asking me to open up for him, but something pulled me back. My heart pounded and I suddenly realized it could be an impostor coming to attack me. But then, I couldn’t pray, all I could only mutter was Holy Ghost fire! I said this repeatedly till the stranger disappeared. And then I heard the barking of a dog from somewhere in the neighourhood.
Eventually, when the real Matthew came from church and asked for the door to be opened, I became hysterical with him. I demanded his explanations for the earlier visit but he said it wasn’t him. Initially I didn’t believe him. It took the explanation of another brother who confirmed that he was actually in the church all through the night for me to let things be. I could have killed him.
Before the attack, I had been keeping indoors. I couldn’t go out just anyhow because I knew members of the group would be looking for me.
So, after that incident, my pastor decided to take me to his village, away from the area where everyone knew me.
It is only God that can stop the war Boko Haram and other Islamic religious sects have started against the Christians in Nigeria. I thank God that I am out and now a Christian. The frank advice I can offer to all Christians is that they should start securing their own weapons, tighten their belts and prepare for war. The terrorist sects are prepared for war already. I am just looking at all Christians in Nigeria as dead people because of the level of preparations the sects have made.
It was on March 6, that I had a strange encounter that turned me into a completely different person. We usually go for our preaching on Fridays and Saturdays. I had just returned from one of such outings in Bodinga Local Government Area of Sokoto State, it was around 3pm. I was about to start taking ablution for the evening prayers when it happened. A man in pure, resplendent white attire just appeared to me. And once I saw him I was scared and dropped the small keg of water and ran off to my office. My people were asking me and I told them that I saw a man in white but they said they didn’t see anybody and even when I went back to the spot where I had seen the man, he was no longer there.
Then that night when I slept, the strange man in white came to me again. He was holding a stick and then I was frightened and I shouted and woke up with a start. My people rushed to me and said I was having a nightmare. Our leader said that the man in white must be an evil one. They took me to a powerful Mallam in Gombe who did some prayers for me to ward off the evil man in white. After the prayers, the Mallam assured me that nothing would happen to me and I returned to our base. But then when I slept again the following night, the same man in white appeared to me again and this time, he spoke to me. He said: “God has chosen you”. He said that three times and I again woke up with a start and that again alarmed my people. But when they asked what happened to me, I lied to them that there was nothing.
When it was morning, I took my bathe and deliberately went to see a barber friend who is a Christian. After he had finished cutting my hair, I opened up to him. I told him about my encounter with the strange old man in white and he said that the man must be God reaching out to me. I asked him why God would want to reach out to me. He then asked me if I was ready to give my life to Christ and serve God and immediately I said yes. I was even surprised at the way I simply took it.
Since I started fellowshipping with the church, I have become a different being. The experience was like I had a thorough bathe, which washed off all impurities like diseases and all that. Before the experience, I used to walk around like one afflicted with insanity, but now, I am more relaxed and composed. I now take time to take care of myself and even have inner peace. I used to live on drugs but now, I don’t take drugs any longer. I feel healthy.
It is not easy to quite the brotherhood because we undergo terrible and diabolic initiation process that hardened us. It is only by God’s touch that anyone one could renounce the group. When I was still there a certain high profile member of the Boko Haram sect, named Shuaib, renounced the group. I was part of many others who personally swore that we would ensure that we skin Shuaib alive if we see him anywhere.
But I want to tell my colleagues who are still in it to have a change of heart. I now realize that killing Christians would not take me to heaven; instead, it will take me to hell. And I’m ready to live a good life as a Christian.”

Crime / SHOCKING: 17 Year Old Girl Beheaded In Abia by mrlizo: 8:52pm On Aug 15, 2013
The beheading of a 17-year-old girl, Chioma Emeka Ikwuagwu, by unknown killers has caused tension between Ameke and Ukome communities in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State.
The late Chioma hails from Ameke but lived with her parents at Ukome, where she was killed. The bereaved community of Ameke is said to have given Ukome three days to produce their daughter.
The notice expired on July 30, thus creating apprehension in Ukome community. Sources at Ukome said the deceased, who was an SSS3 student of Holy Rosary College, Umuahia, was the first of five children.
Her father, Emeka Ikwuagwu, told reporters that on July 26, he went to collect some corn from one of his farm while his wife, Akunna, led some people to weed their other farm. Ikwuagwu said Chioma brought food to the farm for her mother and the workers at noon. He said: “She was asked to go to another farm to collect some vegetables for use later that evening and she never came back.
It was the last time she was seen alive. “When she did not return, her mother went in search of her, only to discover blood everywhere at the farm and she alerted me.
“I immediately organised a search party to look for her around the farm and her lifeless body was found at a nearby spot with palm fronds covering her. “When we found her, her jeans were drawn down close to her lap, she clutched tightly to her underwear with one hand with machete cuts on her other arm. Her head had been cut off.
“We left the body like that so that the police could see it. They (police) came on Saturday morning to remove the body and deposited it at the City Gate Mortuary, Umuahia, after the Federal Medical Centre rejected it.” A source said upon hearing the news, Ukome youths searched the bush for the killers. He said: “They didn’t find anything.

The father was compelled by tradition to report the incident to his kinsmen at Ameke, which he did. “On July 28, they marched on Ukome with wooden gongs and symbolic palm fronds, which they handed down to Ukome people, demanding their daughter or her killers.” It was gathered that a suspect has been arrested.
The man is said to have threatened the family over a piece of land because of a piece of land willed to Ikwuagwu by his late grandmother. Police spokesman Geoffrey Ogbonna said the command was aware of the matter, but that they are still waiting for full details before starting investigations.

Nairaland / General / New ‘death Test’ Predicts How Long You Have Left To Live ( Would You Buy One?) by mrlizo: 5:41pm On Aug 15, 2013
E GET ANYTHING PEOPLE NO GO TRY INVENT SEF

It might not be information you want to know, but just in case you do, scientists have designed a noninvasive test called the “death test” which can tell people how long they have left to live. A painless laser pulse is applied to the surface of the skin through a wristwatch-style device.
It analyses endothelial cells measuring how the body will decline with age, giving a measure of the lifespan. A user-friendly version of the system is expected to be completed within the next three years.

Politics / PDP Fears Buhari More Than God Says El-rufai by mrlizo: 10:29am On Aug 14, 2013
A top member of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and a former Minister of Nigeria’s federal capital, Nasir el-Rufai, has declared that members of the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) fear General Muhammadu Buhari (ret.) more than they fear God.
Mr. El-Rufai made the statement while speaking in a radio interview in Kaduna monitored online by SaharaReporters. He said, “They are always in a rush to twist what Buhari said because they are afraid of him. They try to do everything possible to paint the man black and they are not even afraid that one day they will stand before God and account for their action. That is why I said they are more scared of him than they are scared of God because somebody that is scared of the day when he will face God will not do certain things. He will not create a lie and try to make it true. This is why I made that statement. And I think people should be very careful and very wary of whatever the PDP and its media say about General Buhari.”

Mr. El Rufai added that the “PDP has become a virus that is infecting and destroying the country because they are not doing anything productive. They have changed our politics into that of ethnicity and religion to divert attention from their incompetence, lack of capacity and looting of the treasury. It has become a clear and present danger to the existence of Nigeria as a nation and the prosperity of its people.”
In a separate development, SaharaReporters learnt that a group within the APC coalition was pressuring Mr. El-Rufai to run for governorship of his home state of Kaduna in 2015. We could not reach Mr. El-Rufai by phone to ascertain whether he had encouraged party members clamoring for him to run in the governorship race.

With her heavily exaggerated stories and made up lies coupled with her flirting and sudden romance with South Africa’s Angelo, we take a look at her many exploits in the Big brother show and how it may affect her $300,000 Big Brother Chase ambitions as we near the the finale of Africa’s biggest reality TV show.
Young, spontaneous and excessive are words Big Brother Africa fans relate easily to her. Her stories elicit taunts and laughter from Nigerian viewers. Many waive her off, preferring to call her ‘a disgrace to Nigeria’, without a second thought. But that is what Beverly Ada Osu has brought upon herself.
Her many lies and exaggerations
Beverly made ears twinge earlier when she revealed that she was expelled from secondary school. Then she spoke about a ‘thing’ with singer 2Shortz and tongues wagged more. The singer’s rebuttal of any links with her made people have a rethink. Could Beverly be making up her stories? Not long after many discerning fans began to pick holes in her stories. Funny enough, she told many of them to housemates without bothering if she was over-stepping boundaries of decency, tact, fact and truth.
“In Nigeria, I can be walking past a market, and a market woman will stone me,” Bev toldChasemates last week Friday. She claimed a 42-year-old man wanted to marry her after meeting her just for a day, just to buttress an earlier statement: “My mum used to tell me that the guy I will marry, I won’t date for long.”
While confirming that she dropped out of Babcock University, she raised viewers eyebrows with two blatant lies: “I went to the most expensive school in Nigeria. I was a first-class material before dropping out of school, not because I don’t have the brain.”
Many can easily attest to the fact that Igbinedion University’s fees dwarf that of Babcock and many a first-class student can spell difference without blinking.
If you still care you can read through these random sensational picks: “Flirting is in my genes,” she told Angelo. “I have over 16 Bibles,” she also told housemates. She claimed that popular singer Omawumi Megbele was her best friend.
That was after she let out that a journey from Nigeria to Ghana by road took between 2-3hours. For Beverly, the Nigeria naira exchanges at a N100 to $1: “ I told him [one of her ex boyfriends] that I would charge N100,000, that’s about a $1,000!”
Being real?
Beverly found herself on the wrong side of a love triangle early in the game. Many gave her the benefit of doubt when Ugandan basketballer, Isaac ‘LK4’ Lugude decided to play a fast one on her and South African model Koketso Modibo. But many failed to take that as a hint.

She moved on to Ethiopian student, Bimp, after being shipped off to the Diamond House from the Ruby House. She didn’t need his permission to share his bed: She latched onto him like a leech for her daily survival. But Bimp’s avowed commitment to his girlfriend ensured that he kept the lines of friendship very clear.
When South Africa’s Angelo Collins connected with Beverly at the party zone, it was a case of two housemates finding love on the rebound; and that love which Beverly shares with the dance instructor has seen her throw caution to the winds. After two near mishaps, Beverly finally let go last Friday in Biggie’s bathtub. She became the fourth female Chasemate to have séx on live TV, following closely in the footsteps of Betty, Selly and Cleo.
Her loose tongue
Beverly’s stories have no boundaries and respect. “My grandmother speaks Ibo and doesn’t speak English very well. She is an illiterate!” Her mother’s dealings in life are in the open. From revealing that her 52-year-old mother carried drugs, she claimed that she was also an alaiye (mother of street urchins), and spoke boldly of how her mother took one young man to the cleaners with the help of her brothers. Hmmm…
She told Elikem on Monday: “My first boyfriend was Frank Okosa. He was 18 and in SS2, I was 15 in SS3. He was the first to have séx with me.” She went ahead to reel out a list of her many boyfriends after Okosa: CJ, Nosa (32yrs), Rukkie (35yrs), Special (32yrs) and Curtis (28yrs). To justify her many men, she gave a lame excuse: “All my ex were over-protective and they took me for granted.” If she had stopped there it would have been very unlike her. But she dropped another bombshell for Elikem, the listening ear: “I can’t make love except I am high.”
On Wednesday, Beverly still wanted to have a say, as long as any housemate made a comment. So, when Namibia’s Dillish Matthews disclosed that her mother’s birthday was August 14, Beverly jumped in, “my mum’s birthday is tomorrow.”
Beverly’s many tales coupled with her bathtub escapade with Angelo is not doing her any favours with the fans. But if she can avoid the possible eviction nomination list next week, she will be in the annals of Big Brother Africa history books as the only Chasematewho made the grand finale without being nominated for 11weeks. If her name comes up next week, it would be safe to say even at this time that she may never make it to the finale, Nigerian or not!

Politics / Army Denies Reported Promotion For Al-mustapha by mrlizo: 12:55pm On Jul 17, 2013
The Nigerian Army has disociated itself from reports in some section of the online media of plans to decorate the recently released chief security officer to the late General Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha with the rank of a brigadier general.
According to the Director of Army Public Relations Brigadier General Ibrahim Attahiru, there is no truth to the report even though Major Al-Mustapha is still enlisted in the Nigerian army.
According to him ‘The Nigerian Army as a professional force, will be guided by all administrative procedures guided by extant administrative rules and regulations in the handling of the status of Major Al-Mustapha such as the Armed Forces of Nigeria harmonized terms and conditions of service amongst others.
The Nigerian Army had earlier confirmed claims by Major Hamza Al-Mustapha that he remains a personnel of the Nigerian Army, but did not say if his status will be upgraded from the rank of a Major in the Nigerian Army.
Al Mustapha who was incarcerated for 14 years while on trial for the murder of late Kudirat Abiola the wife of Chief MKO Abiola.
The Appeal Court in Lagos dismissed charges of conspiracy to murder Alhaja Kudirat Abiola levelled against the former Chief Security Officer to late Head of State, General Sani Abacha.
The Court in a unanimous decision ruled that there was no direct circumstantial evidence that he conspired with anyone as evidence of prosecution witnesses in that regard were contradictory.
Justice Rita Pemu who read the lead judgment held that there was no direct circumstantial evidence that he conspired with anyone as evidence of prosecution witnesses in that regard were contradictory.
She further held that based on facts and evidence before the court, it is certainly not Al-Mustapha who pulled the trigger and murdered Alhaja Kudirat Abiola.
The Court holds that he is liable to be discharged and acquitted.
The duo of Al-Mustapha and Shofolahan had appealed against the judgment of a Lagos High Court which sentenced them to death for the June 4, 1996 murder of Kudirat Abiola, wife of the deceased winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, Chief MKO Abiola.

Education / BREAKING NEWS: Unilag Students Protest Over High Cost Of Food On Campus by mrlizo: 2:02pm On Jun 10, 2013
Few hours ago, students of acclaimed University of Lagos took to the open to protest what they described as extortion of students by eatery outfits on the campus. The popular restaurant called SUB because of its location at the Student Union Building and history of very good and affordable food has become one of the most notorious spots on campus for extra high rates. Famous for its special salad and chips amongst other delicacies, the SUB has reportedly become "unaffordable for most students", a source said. "They no longer sell pure water and a small bottle of water goes for N80 when it is N50 outside the campus and even on some other places on campus" the source added. The protesters insisted that it will be a peaceful protest but ordered that all shops located in the SUB vicinity be closed down.

The protesters revealed that they were heading for the senate building to continue the protest. Our reporter noticed angry shop owners not involved in food business who felt they had nothing to do with the disagreement and are being made to suffer despite the high cost of rent. A worker at the SUB restaurant revealed they were paying a whooping N3million naira per year for rent and that they needed to make their money back. The worker condemned UNILAG authorities for being complicit by charging unfair rates. He further added that they were paying a monthly power fee of N40,000 per month. However, www.newsinnigeria.org could not verify his claims before reporting this.

Since the UNILAG Student Union Government was suspended in 2005 following a violent face-off with the University authority which saw the then Vice Chancellor, Prof Ibidapo Obe escape through the lagoon in a boat, the University authorities have been skeptical to restore the full Student Union despite the restoration of Faculty Associations in 2010. In a swift reaction, in a copy made available to www.newsinnigeria.org, the Office of Dean of Student Affairs ordered all shops on campus to be closed with immediate effect today (10th of June, 2013) despite protests from shop owners. No doubt no one wants a repeat of 2005.

Nairaland / General / Borno: Troops Capture Boko Haram’s Camp by mrlizo: 8:18am On May 17, 2013
EARLY reports of military operations in the three North-East states under emergency rule, on Thursday, indicated that Nigerian soldiers had recaptured three of the local government areas where insurgents had been in control in northern Borno.

The names of the recaptured councils could not be confirmed out of the lot in possession of the violent Islamic sect, Boko Haram. The areas where the insurgents were said to have been in total control before the military operation launched on Thursday were Marte, Magumeri, Mobbar, Gubio, Guzamala, Abadamin, Kukawa, Kaga, Nganzai and Monguno.

Also, the troops reportedly invaded and took over a training camp of the violent Islamic sect, Boko Haram, known as Sambisa on the outskirts of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, in the early hours of Thursday.

Borno as well as Adamawa and Yobe states fell under emergency rule by presidential proclamation on Tuesday.

President Goodluck Jonathan said all efforts to bring the violence in the area under control had failed hence the need to use force to force insurgents out of the states, especially Borno where the President said insurgents had taken control of the northern part.

A soldier who spoke to one of our correspondents from Maiduguri, on the condition of anonymity, said, “We have succeeded in taking over Sambisa Games Reserve, which the sect had been using as its camp. Scores of people found in the camp were arrested.

“We will interrogate them and those who are not members of the sect will be set free. The operation is being carried out in such a way that there is no harassment. The innocent should not be afraid.”

The source however declined to comment on the number of casualties already recorded and the number of persons arrested.

The PUNCH learnt that troops on Thursday shut down almost half of the state as they attacked suspected Boko Haram enclaves.

A man who spoke to one of our correspondents on the telephone from Maiduguri narrated that the military operation in the city had disrupted normal life.

He said the number of roadblocks had increased and that “farmers are no longer going to the farm, only a few traders are venturing out to the market.

“Shop owners who sell provisions are finding it difficult to replenish their stock.”

The source further explained that even residents of Maiduguri, considered safe were living in fear.

This, he explained, was because they feared that the insurgents could sneak into town. The Boko Haram insurgency began in Maiduguri in 2009 and Borno State is seen as the operational base of the sect that has killed at least 2,500 persons in attacks on military and police facilities, drinking joints, worship houses and markets.

Director of Defence Information, Brig.- Gen. Chris Olukolade, said in a telephone interview with one of our correspondents that more troops had been deployed in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe.

He declined to comment on the number of troops that were billed to participate in the major military operations planned to flush out the insurgents from the area.

Olukolade said that it was not strategic to disclose the number of soldiers or security personnel that would be used for the operation.

“All I can say is that more soldiers have been deployed today; that I can confirm to you. On the issue of the numbers that are being quoted, they are not from the DHQ. We are not quoting any number.

“The operation is continuing satisfactorily. Details will be made available to the public at the appropriate time.”

Another source in the besieged area said, “We now have more soldiers and weapons than I have ever seen in my life. Although some of them are moving towards the north, some are remaining here in Maiduguri.

“I have no idea what is going on in places like Bama, Marte, Magumeri, and Monguno where the Boko Haram people have taken control of some towns and villages. But movement in-and-out of these areas has been restricted.”

The Nigerian Army on Thursday announced an indefinite dusk-to-dawn curfew in Adamawa State.

Public Relations Officer of 23rd Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Yola, Lt. Ja’afaru Nuhu, in a statement on Thursday said the curfew would be between 6 pm and 6 am until further notice.

He said, “Sequel to the Presidential declaration of state of emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Goodluck Jonathan, a 6pm to 6am curfew has been imposed on Adamawa State.

“All law-abiding citizens are advised to abide by the curfew,” the statement said.

There are reports that business and other activities are going on as usual in Yola in spite of the heavy deployment of soldiers and policemen in strategic places.

The BBC reports on Thursday indicated that mobile phone networks were not functioning in many parts of North-East states, though the reporter said it was not clear if the situation was related to the current military offensive.

The insurgents had previously attacked mobile phone masts in the area in an effort to disrupt communications.

The State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Inuwa Bwala, and the Director of Press, Mallam Isa Gusau, could not be reached as of the time of this report.
