He also accused Paul of slandering his wife and children with lies on social media, and alleged that they’ve now been receiving threatening messages.

Peter further accused his older brother Jude of once threatening to kill him and shoot his wife Lola. The management of UNIBEN has announced that the 2017 Post-UTME admission screening earlier scheduled for September 14 to 25 will now hold from September 28 to October 10. Otasowie Oshodin, the registrar of the institution, announced this new date on Friday, September 22 in Benin. According to Premium Times, the screening will hold in designated centres within the Ugbowo campus of the university and all candidates will take the test using the Computer Based Test mode.

The registrar also announced new guidelines, stating that only candidates who scored 200 and above in Joint Admission Matriculation Board’s UTME would be eligible for the 2017/2018 UTME admission. In addition, only those who chose UNIBEN as first choice were eligible for the screening.

Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities have suspended their over a month old strike action. The lecturers proceeded on a strike on August 14th. Announcing the suspension, the President of the union, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, said the strike would be suspended until the end of October so that the Federal government can fulfill all the promises it had made to the association. He said failure to fulfill the agreement would result in the resumption of the strike.

ASUU embarked on an indefinite strike on August 14th following government’s failure to implement its 2009 agreement and 2013 memorandum of understanding (MoU), non-payment of salaries, non-payment of earned academic allowance (EAA), removal of universities staff schools from funding by government and non-implementation of provisions of the 2014 pension reform act with respect to retired professors and their salaries.

The Nigerian Defence Headquarters has branded the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a militant terrorist organisation, and this was disclosed in a statement released in Abuja. 

The Director, Defence Information (DDI), Gen. John Enenche, stated that IPOB posed a security challenge to the country. Part of the statement read;

“After due professional analysis and recent developments, it has become expedient to notify the general public that the claim by IPOB actors that the organisation is non-violent is not true.

“Hence, the need to bring to public awareness the true and current state of IPOB.

“In this regard, some of their actions, clandestinely and actively, that have been terrorising the general public include:

“The formation of a Biafra Secret Service, claimed formation of Biafra National Guard, unauthorised blocking of public access roads and extortion of money from innocent civilians at illegal road blocks.

“Militant possession and use of weapons (stones, molotov cocktails, machetes and broken bottles, among others) on a military patrol on Sept. 10, 2017.

“Physical confrontation of troops by Nnamdi Kanu and other IPOB actors at a check point on Sept. 11, 2017 and also attempt to snatch their rifles.

“Attack by IPOB members on a military check point on Sept. 12, 2017, at Isialangwa, where one IPOB actor attempted to snatch a female soldier’s rifle.’’

“From the foregoing, the Armed Forces of Nigeria wish to confirm to the general public that IPOB from all intent, plan and purpose as analysed, is a militant terrorist organisation.’’

The suspects are Samson Olujobi, 28 (a.k.a Mau Rice, Melinda Mcginnis); Abraham Sunday ( a.k.a. Raymond Dodson) 32; Gabriel Ayo ( a.k.a. Robert Mcintosh, Donald Great) 25; Omotayo Raphael (a.k.a. Michael Black) 25; Semiu Sunday Olawale (a.k.a. J. Cabtree) 23; Dafe Onosigho (a.k.a. Johna Kurz ) 27; Ewiolo Elvis (a.k.a. Morgan Moore), 32 and Usiaka Louis (a. k.a. Anthony Parker, David Smart, Alfred Norman) 22.

They were arrested following intelligence report about their alleged involvement in some criminal activities.

The suspects who were arrested around the Egbeda and Agege areas of the state, were said to have defrauded their victims whom they connected with on some online dating sites, of huge sums of money in different currencies posing as Americans. Evidence gotten from their emails contain account user names and passwords of their victims who are mainly Americans.

The scammers who are experts at stealing domain names of persons and organizations also use their victims as money moles to transfer monies between countries.

Several people have been injured along an area said to be dominated by Igbos, as an ethnic crisis has erupted in Jos, the Plateau state capital on Thursday.

According to a Premium Times report, there is an ongoing ethnic clash between Hausa and Igbos in Jos, the Plateau State capital.
It was gathered that residents said several people have been injured along Rwang Pam street, an area said to be dominated by Igbos, and Ahmadu Bello way.
Police and other security officials have, however, arrived to calm the situation.

Kumawood comic actor, Yaw Dabo is finally getting married to his "sweetheart" actress Vivian Okyere.

According to Ghpage, the two featured in Kumawood movie "Megye wo girl" in which Yaw Dabo snatched  Vivian  from his boss.

Dabo has said he will announce a date for his wedding to his sweetheart soon.
He told Ghpage that he has been dating Vivian for some time now while recounting all the movies they've starred together.

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC have reportedly discovered two more assets in Abuja belonging to former first lady, Patience Jonathan, who is currently being investigated by the EFCC for alleged money laundering. The Nation reports that the anti-graft agency believes that the newly discovered assets were allegedly bought through three of her firms  namely Ariwabai Aurera Reachout Foundation; Finchley Top Homes Limited; and AM-PM Network Limited, with proceeds from corrupt practices. This brings to 15 the number of her properties that are being investigated.

The agency is currently making moves to seize the properties as well as investigate the roles played by seven banks in acquiring the assets as well as the aforementioned firms. Specifically, detectives are probing how Mrs. Jonathan allegedly used the proxy firms to secure six choice plots in the Central Business District(CBD), Abuja, Wasa District, Idogwari District, Karsana and Mabushi in the FCT.

The plots are:

1758, Cadastral zone B06, Mabushi, which was allocated to Ariwabai Aurera Reachout Foundation in 2010;
96, Cadastral Zone D05, Karsana, allocated to AM-PM Global Network Limited vide a letter of intent dated 31/05/2012;
7109, Cadastral Zone E10, Wasa District, allocated to AM-PM Global Network Limited vide a letter of intent dated 27/03/2013;
30, Cadasrtal Zone D03, Idogwari District (AM-PM Global Network Limited vide a letter of intent dated 23/10/2014);
1758, Cadastral zone B06, Mabushi (Ariwabai Aurera Reachout Foundation vide a Right of Occupancy in 2010); and
1350 Cadastral Zone A00, Central Business District, which was allocated to Ariwabai Aurera Reach Out Foundation in 2010. The and Certificate of Occupancy (CofO) issued in 2011.
An official of the anti-graft agency who spoke on condition of anonymity, said

“A Special Task Force is looking into how Mrs. Jonathan allegedly laundered huge sums of money into the accounts of three companies. These shell  firms were in turn used to acquire some plots of land and properties suspected to be proceeds of crime. We have already written to the Corporate Affairs Commission(CAC) and seven banks linked with the plots of land and the two properties. Apart from the statements of account of the three companies., our team is in touch with Abuja Geographical Information Service(AGIS) for information about some properties linked to the affected firms.”

According to the souce, investigations by the agency shows that two properties were already being developed, allegedly by the former First Lady on Plot No. 1758 Cadastral zone B06 Mabushi and Plot No. 1350 Cadastral zone A00 Central Business District

“We discovered that on Plot No. 1758 Cadastral zone B06 Mabushi, which was allocated to Ariwabai Aurera Reachout Foundation in 2010 and C of O issued in 2011, eight  mighty  buildings are being built. Most people believe it is proposed to be a hotel. Also, Plot No. 1350, Cadastral Zone A00 in Central Business District, currently bears an eight-storey building still under construction. The plot was allocated to Ariwabai Aurera Reachout Foundation in 2010 and C of O issued in 2011. Inference   may be drawn from the above, considering the fact that the suspect’s last known official position was Permanent Secretary in the Bayelsa State Government. Hence, there is no way such magnificent architectural edifices could have been built within a short space of time as it is the case with the properties in question.”

The EFCC believes that there is high probability that the property could have been built with proceeds of crime.

“It is evidently clear that it is a case of money laundering but there is need to do more to prove the predicate of the offence,” the source said. The agency is awaiting responses from banks, CAC and AGIS.

Besides, it is making efforts to get information about Finchley Homes Limited, its directors and all properties with bank accounts linked to them. The source confirmed that the EFCC might “request for the interim forfeiture of the two properties.

“This is particularly very important because attempt to mark the properties, by operatives, was resisted and even the portion that was successfully marked was later cleared by agents of the suspect,” the source said.

With the latest bend of investigation, 15 properties and six plots of land have so far been traced to the former First Lady in Port Harcourt, Yenagoa and Abuja. Besides the two properties in Abuja, 13 others were previously linked with the ex-First Lady.

The assets in Port Harcourt  are former Customs Service officers mess; two duplexes at 2/3 Bauchi Street; landed property with blocks at Ambowei Street; three Luxury apartments of four-bedroom each at Ambowei Street;  and Grand View Hotel along airport road.

The rest suspected assets in Yenagoa include two marble duplexes at Otioko GRA by Isaac Boro Expressway;  Glass House on Sani Abacha Expressway, which is housing Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring  Board; Akemfa Etie Plaza by AP filling Station, Melford Okilo  Road; and Aridolf  Resort, Wellness and Spa along Sani Abacha Expressway.

Both chambers of the National Assembly, the Senate and the House of Representatives,yesterday, passed a total sum of N574,532,726,857 as supplementary budget for President Muhammadu Buhari.

The money, which is for additional Recurrent (Non- Debt) Expenditure for the year ending on December 31, 2015 is to be withdrawn from the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federation.

The Senate, however, jerked the original supplementary budget as submitted by President Buhari by N108,895,800,000, just as it said that the increase was designed to accommodate additional funding for fuel subsidy for the months of October, November and December, 2015.

With the additional N109 billion by the Senate for fuel subsidy, it would now amount to N522,258,934,505 as the President, in the letter to the Senate, had requested for N413 billion for fuel subsidy.

Also N5,000,000,000 was approved as Victims Support Funds in the Capital Supplementation which would be re-classified to the Service Wide Vote of N559,217,800,017.

The Senate also approved the sum of N29,958,865,512 to fight the Boko Haram insurgency in the North East and payment of outstanding claims in order to ameliorate the suffering of Nigerians under the heading, Operation Zaman Lafiya. Of the approved money, the Nigerian Army will get N17,468,992,640; Nigerian Airforce, N8,141,434,760; Nigerian Army outstanding balance from 2015 and second quarter, N4,348,438,112.

The Senate had penultimate Wednesday received a supplementary budget of N465,636,926,857 from President Buhari for consideration and approval.

President Buhari, who also sought an upward review of the new borrowing plan from N882.1 billon to N2.103 trillion had said: “The expected deficit arising from the above is projected at N2.103 trn or 2.19 per cent of GDP to be financed by additional borrowing of N1.601 trn through the Debt Management Office.”

The approval of the Senate was sequel to the report of the Senator Danjuma Goje-led Committee on Appropriations on the 2015 Supplementary Appropriation Bill.
