Religion / Re: How Jesus Reacted To The Worship Of Mary by mrmatt(m): 7:37pm On Jul 05, 2015
It is funny and hypocritical how members of these new generation churches can easily find chapters and verse to support their disrespect for the mother of Jesus Christ But can easily bow down in fear/praise and worship to their pastors', wives. Ask her to pray for them and do as they (pastors' wives) command. Common sense should tell us even though our overseers discourage us from calling her (Mary)name that she deserved to be honoured as the privilege mother of Christ. For me, the day I leave Catholic is the day I will stop going to church... There is no perfect church. I had once decided not to go to church anymore but I can't throw the baby away with the bath water. The most important thing is find a place to serve/worship God. And don't think your church is the best... The Real church is a building of beings which Christ is the corner stone. No constitutions says we should honour the mother/wives of Governors/president and other rich people?

Am sure you are one of the kind of persons that rush to their kneels when they see ordinary mother of a state governor. U give unmerited and unnecessary honour and respect to ur state first lady but u find it too hard to honour d mother that brought Jesus into d world. I don't blame you; a child grows up to believe what he/she is told or meet. But u are Expected to use your head.

Food / Re: My Garden Egg, Cabbage, And Egusi Soup Recipe (with PHOTOS) by mrmatt(m): 10:45am On Oct 07, 2014
TONYE001:
MY FINDINGS AND CONCLUSION

1. The soup was thick and heavy. This may be due to the grated garden eggs, the ogba, and of course, the egusi...

2. The soup had a "seedy" appearance which was obviously due to the garden eggs used,

3. There was a unique, pleasing taste the garden eggs offered, it gave the egusi a different taste from the usual,

4. The overall taste of the soup was FANTASTIC! (as confirmed by my colleagues).

Conclusion: I may not be wrong if I call myself an Experimentalist. I love trying out new things...just for the fun of it.

My garden eggs, cabbage, and egusi soup stunt was a huge success. In fact, one of my colleagues had to eat it twice that evening!

I encourage fellow Nairalanders to give this a try at home, I'm sure you all would enjoy it.

Nairalanders, over to you... Your comments please...

Culture / Re: 10 Extinct Nigerian Languages And What You Think Can Be Done To Save The Rest by mrmatt(m): 2:28pm On Sep 23, 2014
Joavid: Wow!
Informative post @ op.

I observed that most the languages listed by the op are of minority groups mostly located in central part of Nigeria(north central).
and I can't entirely blame the desire to speak and learn good english the reason for the extinction of those languages.

I think been bundle up together with other small tribes, they had to adopt a language; still indigenous for better and effective communication -- hausa.
And overtime, it became a language for mixed tribes. Inter-tribal marriage did not help matters too.

And sometimes these languages are difficult and to speak or learn especially if you did not grow up learning it, hence it can't stand the test of time.

Also, Most Afro-Asiatic(which are most of the languages listed up there) are poorly described and there is
virtually no literature written in them or about them.

Almost a quarter of them are
spoken by communities of 5000
people or less, and a large
percentage is spoken by just a
handful of people, while some are
already extinct.
So its no wonder.
. Most of the languages are found in the core north and not north central outside one. State that have extent and endangered languages in the north central are plateau state, nasarawa state and Niger state.

Education / Re: Third Class And 2.2 In Our Federal Universities. by mrmatt(m): 4:27pm On Aug 27, 2014
LARRYDKING: If u've heard of or experienced the several rigorous tests and screening students of federal varsities have passed through before been offered admission, u'll only but agree with me that it's just the best brains in Nigeria that attends federal schs.

Unilag for example have the policy of admitting candidates who generally merit there admission irrespective of the number. Even thier supplimentary list is always choked up with students who have high score but could not still merit the requirementss. Very good examples of such requirements as it affects all engineering candidates/aspirants of the sch is the possession of at least a credit pass in F-maths at O/level, having a minimum of distinction frm a polytechnic before been quailfied for direct entry among others. After all these, some of their students still graduate will third class and pass.

OAU is another sch where where students who merit their admission can sit at home and expect their names in the first admission list of the sch, same applies in U.I and other federal schs.

Apology to the students of the state unis but this does nt happen in state unis, scoring high and meriting admission requirements cant be totally used as a yardstick for admission, just a phone call frm a prominent member of the society will secure one admission. So if they make 3rd class, we can't really blame anyone for it.

After beating all these requirements to be offered admission into the federal university, why do some students still make as low as 2.2, 3rd class and pass from their schools with all the tests they have passed showing their academic prowess

Culture / Re: Which Is The Easiest Nigerian Language To Learn? by mrmatt(m): 2:12pm On Jan 05, 2014
it depends on ur mother tongue, if ur language is mutually intelligable to any language, u can easily learn that language. Eg. Igala ppl find it easy to learn Yoruba and Tiv ppl tend to learn hausa easier. So, it depends on the share features of language or rather, family relationship of languages.
Politics / Re: Boko-Haram Gunmen Kill 12 At Wedding Party.... DEAD HUMANS [PHOTO] by mrmatt(m): 6:52pm On Dec 31, 2013
Rare-antagonist:
Twelve people died in a suspected Boko Haram attack on a wedding party at the weekend, police and health officials in the northeast Nigerian state of Borno said on Monday.

Two gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire in the mainly Christian village of Tashan Alade, 230 kilometres (over 140 miles) from the Borno state capital Maiduguri, on Saturday, said police commissioner Lawan Tanko.

“The attackers, who were obviously Boko Haram insurgents, arrived at the open-air venue of the party around 2:00pm (1300 GMT) and opened fire, killing seven people and injuring five others,” he told AFP.

“The gunmen fled immediately and escaped before security personnel could be alerted due to the remoteness of the village.”Witnesses to the attack said the gunmen pretended to be guests and opened fire as cash was given to the newlyweds in a traditional Nigerian custom.
The wedding was attended by both Christians and Muslims, they added.

People injured in the raid were taken to hospital in Maiduguri, where five others died from gunshot wounds, said one hospital worker, who requested anonymity.

“Twelve people were brought here on Saturday with very serious gunshot wounds from Tashan Alade,” the source added.

“Five of the injured died yesterday (Sunday).”

The seven others were said to be in a serious but stable condition

Boko Haram has in recent months intensified attacks on civilians in northern Borno in response to their perceived collaboration with the military tasked with stemming the bloody insurgency.

The Jonathan government in May imposed a state of emergency in Borno and two other northeastern states, Yobe and Adamawa.

The operation — assisted by civilian vigilante groups — has seen Boko Haram fighters forced out of Maiduguri into more remote, rural areas on the border with neighbouring Cameroon, Chad and Niger.

We are only guesing about about the date, nobody is 100 percent sure of, when Jesus was born, therefore i may choose a particular date, and name it chrismas , and i begin to celebrate on that day, each year, it is not an offence nor do i comited any sin .nowwhat matter most is the motive behind it.
