Abuja gives you an idea of what being the National Capital means in terms of FG influenced development. That was what Lagos benefited by being the National Capital for years and those investments were not taken away or left as responsibilities of Lagos as a State. FG still takes responsibility for most of the infrastructure the made in Lagos

But just to point out, you asked why other States are not making same interventions like Lagos. In actual fact, many States have even done better than Lagos. If you filter the achievements of State led intervention in Lagos, you find that is is nothing given the amount Lagos has. Take Akwa Ibom for example, compare their landmark achievements in the last two decades and what Lagos has done, you will be ashamed of Lagos.

Real estate? That's not the making of Lagos Governme t led by BAT and his acolytes. You should know that Lagos become a center of global commerce before Lugard went secondary school. That was not the design of Nigeria, let alone Lagos and even Tinubu. What drives real estate is liquidity. That is what Lagos has always had.

In terms of what government has offered in terms of housing, Tinubu and his gang have not even done have of what Jakande achieved in that area. Also, so many States have done way better than Lagos in providing shelter

Someone asked in this thread what has been done in Lagos that hasn't been replicated in a state like Kaduna by the FG, I'm not sure if he's gotten any response.

This Lagos was capital decades ago too is one of those baseless arguments. I also don't see how Lagos being capital at some point has impeded any other state from achieving more. When you say BAT has no effect on what Lagos is today, then what effect do leaders have at all? Or are you saying governors have no effect on their states? On the one hand, when you want to talk negatively about Lagos, y'all are quick to say it's BAT Lagos but when it's anything positive, he doesn't exist.

For years VI had been flooding, the so-called FG did nothing about it until they proposed and built the so-called wall of Lagos which has protected that area which led to the development of Eko Atlantic. Do you think if the flooding had continued it won't have affected commercial activities in the area? Instead, the area has flourished. A huge part of VI by the water was dumping ground for a long time until those places were cleared making that place one of the sought-after places for companies, huge name-brand hotels, etc. Isn't that why people claim he owns continental? Expansion of the Lekki-Epe road also contributed hugely to opening up that axis which led to a huge real estate boom. The government doesn't have to build houses if the private sector can handle it as long as an enabling environment and adequate infrastructure is provided. Lagos earnings were greatly improved under him, whatever excuses you want to give for that, this can't be denied and it was a deliberate effort by the government to achieve that, it didn't just happen out of the blue. A lot of institutions that are still present in Lagos today were started by him. Let me stress this again, Lagos in nowhere close to what it should be but its doing a million times better than other states and that shows up in every metric out there.

Also, I want to genuinely learn, what strides Akwa Ibom has made in the last 2 decades that Lagos hasn't. Then whatever progress has been made over there was that by the efforts of the leaders there or they just happened without any catalyst.

Even if we go by your logic, what down payment are we Even talking of? Down payment for transmission lines?
Comparing Biden, a man that can talk over an hour without script and tinubu makes sense at all to you?

So, to start with, population growth is an indicator of poor development recognized globally. So, you have started scoring yourself. Also, to measure economic growth, how do we control for confounding in this case. So, how do we separate economic growth as a result of State government intervention and economic growth as a result of factors not their making.

If you do not have the statistics, then you lack the intellectual authority to speak on it. I will advice you to go study those comparison and them come back to make your defense. This is an era of evidence-based everything. This is just what most of you that were born and brought up in Agege, with little idea of what is happening other places, do. You can't be shouting Lagos is the best and you can't provide a good measure for comparison.

LOL! Brought up in Agege? What does that even have to do with anything? You thought you said something intelligent right?

Anyway, so why haven't those same factors that are not state govt interventions applied to other states? Again why has a state like Bayelsa with a high allocation and small population not experienced significant development? I've said it before Lagos has the highest real estate market in the country by far, that isn't a fluke. Over 70% of the real estate market share in Nigeria is between Lagos and Abuja with Lagos' share being over 50%. How do we not acknowledge the failures of all the other states but keep obsessing over Lagos which is leading in all ramifications even if underperforming? Other states compared to Lagos have performed abysmally

Explain what the statement above means

And why is it that whenever your god speaks he must make a gaffe. I mean that's a sure banker

What does it matter if he makes gaffes? Biden is referred to as a gaffe machine and so what's the effect? When Tinubu said PD.. he corrected himself and said APC. No one can come here and say Tinubu doesn't know what a PVC is, lets's get real. Again I'm sorry if the roasted corn statement is too hard for you to grasp cos logically you know it makes sense that he was saying the down payment wasn't enough for roasted corn. The statement not being constructed perfectly doesn't change the meaning you guys just want to jump on this corn gag which is fine. However, you guys have not explained Sambisa being twice the size of Israel. I think we've beaten this roasted corn thing to death by now

Why don't you travel and see. Start from Abuja.

Let's do it this way . Compare the transformation that has happened in Akwa Ibom and that of Lagos, compare before and after pictures of Asaba between 1999 and now. Compare the before and after pictures of Abakiliki and compare the percentage improvement.

You need to be scientific in this, calculate percentage improvement from 1999 to date and compare Lagos with those of Akaw Ibom, Delta, Kaduna, Anambra, Gombe, Ebonyi and FCT. After doing that to know percentage improvement in areas like urban improvement, road construction, education, healthcare, environmental sustainability, housing, then you can then compare the income of these States with Lagos and put it side by side with the percentage improvement recorded by these States.

That's how people with brain reason.

Please provide the stats cos you can't just say I should go and look for some before and after pictures to compare. Can we compare in terms of migration, population growth, economic growth, investments, real estate market, infrastructural developments, social development.

My guy said ppl with brains and went on to say I should look for before and after photos. Lagos still remains #1 by far when it comes to housing market, then Abuja a distant second and it falls off from there. Mention one state that has eaten in Lagos' market share when it comes to that.

Lagos has always been at the forefront of economy development from precolonial eras... Lagos being made capital by the Europeans is because of what they are benefitting from Lagos because they can as well made Sokoto the capital and nobody would have complained...When the FCT was moved to Abuja, the Federal government ought to compensate Lagos but they didn't...Even some years ago,Lagos senators asked for special status to be given to Lagos in order for them to be able to maintain its decaying infrastructures, senators from a particular region in the south vehemently opposed this...well southwest won't forget this ... Now let's look at the infrastructures they said federal government built in Lagos...There's no state that doesn't have federal infrastructures...if there is none,it means you have to hold your political leaders accountable.. Moreover, looking at Kaduna state, despite the fact that it hasn't been the FCT before, there is no federal project in Lagos that is not replicated in Kaduna state...If there's any,I challenge anybody to name it.

I'll wait for them to name it as well

Also kindly explain PDAPC

Moreover this is exactly what tinubu said

Where did he mention deposit enough in that statement

He mentioned electric transmission being like a super highway but they didn't make deposit enough for roasted corn, I mean how is this so hard to grasp? PDAPC was a gaffe, a gaffe can be made by absolutely anyone, stupid or smart. Joker, you simply have to watch and feel the positive energy most Nigerians showcase during Obi's campaign or presence in rallies to understand the movement.

For the first time we have had a political movement that is geared towards making the nation better, not on ethnic affiliation. Even a blind or an unintelligent person understands the altruism of Obi's movement.

People are no more campaigning for the tribal man to enter, for the first time people are volunteering not because of what they will individually gain rather for the collective well-being of the nation and future of Nigeria.

You might be blind to all these because in your normal trivializing everything to zoo and tribalism, you will find it hard to believe that people have moved on to a better height.

Daalụ

You really just said a lot without saying anything. You want people to acknowledge your own movement as positive while you try to demonize others for their choice. If you see tribal bigots on other sides, I see tribal bigots on your own side as well.

Obi winning the election will automatically set Nigeria on a better footpath to success.

If you are sensible, and sit down to sieve the negs and positives on all candidates, your final bus stop will always be at Obi, especially if you love the nation.

The current status quo on which Tinubu and Atiku stand is detrimental to the success of Nigeria, Obi can and will change that.

Most people against Peter Obi have some things in common; political jobbers, tribal bigots, paid agents, afraid of what a better Nigeria means for them, and finally obtuse ignorance.

Explain how his emergence will automatically set Nigeria on a better path to success? All this language like if you "love the nation" and those that oppose him are tribal bigots are low IQ attempts at guilt-tripping that won't work. Every person has their reasons for supporting their candidate. Some obviously out of selfish reasons and some based on past achievements and the overall impact of their contributions, It's funny how some Obi supporters all of a sudden love the country the most when just yesterday they were calling it a Zoo while threatening to leave when no one was holding them back. Also, this joker said the current status quo and mentioned just BAT & Atiku like Obi wasn't Atiku's VP candidate this past election cycle and in PDP less than six months ago.

Firstly, I am of the opinion that we should explore other avenues of earning forex rather than blaming past governments for not saving and the fall in oil prices.

Our politicians are all greedy and self centered, Nobody will want to start a project that another person will take the glory I. E. if the project is not completed during the initiators term in office.

An example is the recently commissioned Abuja to kaduna rail line commissioned by PMB. I was reading many vituperations from the APC and PDP on this forum just because the project was started by Mr A and was commissioned by Mr B.

That is why we rarely venture into long term projects. We prefer shortcuts and quick fix. Are we not supposed to mobilize and motivate farmers now if we want bounty havest next year?

The oil and gas folks i know are already looking to other businesses. I know one that went to sign a deal with middle East developers, he wants to get into luxury real estate.

From the bolded, why didn't they stay put blaming past administrations but because they know they have an obligation to their citizens, they are looking for ways to ameliorate the suffering of the masses.

Enter Nigeria, for how long do we continue suffering when there is no policy direction or hope for the future?

Are we revitalizing the manufacturing sector, education sector or diversifying into agriculture?

I don't know if you have bought a modu of garri lately?

All that government is busy doing is short term quick fix, that is why there are policy somersault everywhere. They've increased import duties, introduced stamp duties, increased the price if PMS, increased electricity tariff, increase interest rate, will be increasing the VAT soon not to mention what Emefiele and his Co Travellers are cooking up at the CBN.

Why ban the importation of rice when the once produced locally cannot is not enough for the populace?

How do you encourage startups and diversification when you have increased interest rates?

By end of next year campaigning will be gathering momentum for 2nd tenure and they'll still recycle same people.

How will the economy improve when we have not set any foundation for tomorrow?

Now this post makes a lot of sense. This is how I'll like us to start thinking instead of taking sides with these politicians that don't care about us. I really pray this thinking spreads, these politicians APC/PDP don't care about us. I'm not even sure exactly what you wrote previously that I responded to but this particular one I agree with. However you have to agree with me that our problem didn't start last year and we can't get out of it quickly. There's no magic pill. Diversification is a long and hard. Everyone's frustration though is that it seems like the government is moving too slow without any clear vision to get us out. To a lot of us, this economic situation isn't being treated like a crisis. For the rice, they have said we'll stop rice importation by 2018 or so, how do we know if this is true or not until that 2018. It'll be nice to talk to rice farmers and know exactly what's going on in that industry. My point with the oil and gas guy I'm talking about is he's not sitting down waiting for things to get better. I'm not sure how those guys are going to survive doing any other business because of how easily they made money but i admire the fact this particular guy is making an effort. In difficult times like these we can't sit down and wait for government to announce things are ok. We need to get creative, think outside the box before we can move forward.

All monies stolen under Jonathan is not even one third of what Abacha stole yet Obasanjo came in and was still able to steer Nigeria out of the woods even when oil was below $40 then as is today

First things first, the country didn't make anything close to what it made during GEJ period compared to Abacha's administration so error right there. Then Obj steered us out, how long did it take? Apart from that from when Obj came in to now, everything is now bigger. Go check our spending then compared to now. This same Obj you're giving credit to criticized the past administration several times because he thought they were taking decisions that were bad for the country. You can't praise him for doing good and turn around and say he didn't know what he was saying when he was criticizing Jonathan. Look at this lazy thinking. How can all that happen in one year and all of a sudden we ignore 16 years prior to that, I'm sorry how does this make any sense?? What happened to all the money made during the oil boom?? Where's the corresponding infrastructure if the argument is it was spent? Where's the result of diversification that should be helping us during this period of crashed oil prices? Then you guys keep comparing official rate to a very volatile black market rate. Then about corruption, are we just kidding here?? Then when you say you don't care about others assumptions/opinions, you can't be stating fact because fact should stand up to anyone's assumption/opinion.

This kind of Op's thinking is what will never make PDP win again. If your idea of campaigning for PDP is trying to make us believe we had 16 good years of PDP is a huge error. Almost like PDP Lagos trying to convince us Fayose is a better governor than Ambode... error!!!! Look with this thinking, PDP will not win in 2019 no matter how bad Buhari messes up. The only chance PDP has is presenting something totally different from their 16 years and also a huge improvement from the present government.

This Op never supported Buhari. He just wants to take advantage the fact that his supporters are complaining. How anyone can say insecurity is worse under Buhari is a liar. Anyone that says or suggests that things could have been better under Jonathan is a liar. People's frustration with this government is that they feel they could be doing more. I for one thought, the difference between this administration will be like light and dark are disappointed. There's no part of me that misses Jonathan for one second, I just need this government to do better.

You talk insecurity, when last have you heard about a bomb blast in the NE. The militants that misbehaved in the SW were decisively dealt with. We're not out of the woods yet obviously but there's evidence miscreants are being dealt with. Management of funds have been better with stuff like the TSA and curbing of corruption. I just expected a lot more, stuff like CBN restricting money transfers is one of the things that keep me scratching my head, the perceived lax attitude of fixing this economic crisis is what bugs me. Now there's nothing wrong in telling the truth, yes this mess was carried over but please as much as they're talking about who created the mess, more should be talked about what they're doing to fix it and get out of the mess. This government needs to give details, timelines, plans of how they plan to fix the mess. This is the reason they got elected. We that supported them were not satisfied with the previous government but we voted the new government to fix the mess not point out what we know.

Now for the avengers, let's be honest, the FG is treating them with kid gloves only because they're worried about the backlash. The avengers know this and they're taking advantage of it. However, what are the laws on bringing in gas into the country. If gas can be imported, let's do that to service these power plants. If after that the avengers want to get high off the gas that's wasting away let them feel free.

Politics / Re: Governor El-rufai Accuses CBN Of Causing Massive Nation-wide Job Loss by mrmetoo1: 10:50am On Aug 11, 2016

Oh so they have started blaming themselves? Oh! No! The CBN gov is the last man standing from past govt. So they must call him out.

But, the CBN has little to do in this regard when the naira is in free fall. When prices of all commodities in the country is looking skywards. When the govt has taken pride to hoard the revenue it generates rather than reinvest.

I'm sorry please explain what you mean by hoarding revenue?? FAAC shared N559B last month, the highest in about 2 years. This was shared to all states and lgs, so how are they hoarding? They've given bailout to states, they're going to give another round of bailout where's the hoarding? They've started releasing money for capital projects, where's the hoarding. There are too many things you can criticize this government on and I'll agree not hoarding revenue, I'm not even sure what that means. Where's the revenue coming from?

Now to CBN, can we not always make everything political and just focus on what's good for us? This same El-Rufai has spoken about his mistrust for the people around Buhari so lets just put "because cbn governor is from past administration" aside. Apart from the point the governor raised, in a country where we're in a desperate need for forex, the cbn restricted transfer of money to the country. The services people have been used to for years all if a sudden blocked. We're desperately looking for forex anyhow we can get it and you do that. Can you please explain the rationale behind that? They ordered this suspension without any explanation. Those in the diaspora that we're supposed to be seriously courting and making life easier for them with regards sending money home, we make more difficult. That to me is an evidence of the cbn's role in this mess. Now this isn't me saying they're solely responsible but they're a huge part of it.

Then Naira is in free fall because our currency isn't worth much. Oil isn't worth much nowadays, our currency follows suit. When we diversify, then we can talk about real appreciation of Naira. When the demand for $$$ can match our revenue in $$$ then we can discuss stopping this freefall. Diversification, less dependence on foreign products and increasing our forex earning which all goes hand in hand is the solution and not because someone is somewhere hoarding.

So they only tweeted about the honour done to her but refuse to list her visit in their official website?

You're definitely one of the people i was referring to in my post, do you guys have to respond?? Isn't it more honorable and intelligent to just not say anything than embarrass yourself because you guys don't like Buhari. Did you see where they wrote "host" or does that have another meaning in your world??

Op that has probably never stepped foot in MMIA not to talk of Dulles is confidently posting different angles of a big airport to show what exactly?? This is the reason our politicians get away with stuff because a lot of folks are really not smart.
