Education / In Benue: Two Students Of FIDEI Poly, Policemen Killed During Protest by MrScript(m): 7:28pm On Aug 25, 2016 |
FIDEI Polytechnic Gboko in Benue State was, on Wednesday, shut down indefinitely following alleged killing of two students and two police officers by suspected group of thugs. The two students were killed and another hospitalized, while property belonging to the institution were also destroyed during the crisis that broke out early Tuesday and Wednesday Evening at the polytechnic. FIDEI polytechnic is owned by Rev. Fr. Chris Utov of the Catholic Diocese of Makurdi. An eye witness, Terfa Guum, told our correspondent on the phone that the affected property include the bakery, bursary, the ranch and pen house. The thugs allegedly invaded the institution to dislodge some students who were protesting peacefully over their exclusion from the ongoing second semester examinations. Guum said trouble started when final year students who were owing tuition were barred from writing the examination. “This made the students to stage a peaceful protest,” Guum said. He said that immediately the protest commenced, policemen stormed the school premises, shooting tear gas and shooting sporadically. Guum said, “In the process, a student was hit on the chest and died instantly, while another died in the hospital.” The institution’s authority subsequently cancelled the examination. Angered by this, the students allegedly regrouped and embarked on massive destruction of the school’s property. When contacted, the Rector of the institution, Ugo Abah, said he was on his way to the Police headquarters, Makurdi, to make a formal complaint. In reaction, Police Public Relations’ officer, ASP Moses Yamu, said, “Miscreants and students overpowered policemen during a peaceful protest in the school, injured two police officers and damaged six vehicles, one belonging to the police.” Yamu said 21 persons have been arrested so far http://benue.info/%e2%80%8bin-benue-two-students-of-fidei-poly-policemen-killed-during-protest/

Thousands of worshippers trouped into St. Augustine Catholic in Nenger, Makurdi, the Benue State capital as news of a bleeding crucifix spread through the town. According to eye witnesses, worshippers noticed blood dripping from the knees, feet and on the wall where the statue of Jesus Christ was hung in the front of the church. The place quickly turned into a pilgrimage sight as worshippers jostled to catch a glimpse of the modern day miracle while others to confess their sins believing the end had come. The Catholic diocese of Makurdi is yet to make a statement concerning the incident. http://benue.info/photo-pandamodium-as-crucifix-bleeds-in-benue/

Politics / SHOCKING! N1.732 Trillion Lost Under Buhari In One Year by MrScript(m): 2:31pm On May 31, 2016 |
– The Nigerian Stock Exchange market has lost N1.732 trillion in one year of Buhari’s administration – The market crashed by N1.732 trillion as against the N11.658 trillion market capitalization was as at May 28, 2015 In just one year of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, the Nigerian stock market crashed by N1.732 trillion as against the N11.658 trillion market capitalization was as at May 28, 2015. According to a report by Punch newspaper, in the first quarter of 2016, the All-Share Index also crashed to 28,902.25 basis points from 34,310.37 basis points as the equity category lost over N1.053tn in the first quarter of 2016. The market capitalisation of the NSE fell by N811bn in the first 10 weeks of trading this year. The NSE market capitalisation dropped from N9.75tn on January 4, 2016 to N8.939tn 10 weeks into the year, while the All-Share Index also closed at 25,988.40 basis points from the 28,643.67 basis points recorded on the first trading day of the year. Investors had also made huge losses in the Nigerian equities market last year as the market capitalisation (equities only) of the NSE shed a total of N2.354tn between December 2014 and December 2015. An analyst quoted in the report said in the last one year, the efficiency of the country’s economy had been constrained by policies – monetary and fiscal. He noted that the country had not been able to chart the right path in the past one year, saying some actions by the Federal Government in recent times had shown a rethink especially in the partial deregulation of the petroleum downstream sub-sector and the flexible foreign exchange market. “Our concern is that this flexibility must mean flexibility in the whole sense of it. We’ve seen the capital market make progress recently owing to these. Any attempt by the government to interfere again could drag us back significantly,” Mr Tola Oni, an analyst at WSTC Financial Services Limited said. But the President, Nigerian Stock Exchange, Mr Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, has said the capital market must facilitate capital raising for economic growth as well as mobilise savings for investment. Mr Aig-Imoukhuede said part of the strategies was a broad consensus on sectorial priorities for growth, which should feed into policy formation. “Nigeria is facing a huge growth challenge. Nigeria, indeed, has a big challenge in terms of growth. Employment rate must grow owing to the fact that the population is also growing very fast. Growth is difficult to realise; so, government must stimulate growth. “Nigeria is only exaggerating the impacts of falling oil prices now. This is because with a robust financial market the economy can be sustained. The financial market must be encouraged.” He described the Nigerian financial market as a ‘high-risked’ market, saying the situation was capable of attracting limited investors who could ultimately stop at nothing to maximise returns. |

Politics / Revealed! Why Nigerians Won’t Occupy Nigeria As Fuel Subsidy Is Removed by MrScript(m): 2:48pm On May 20, 2016 |
Yesterday, the Internet was awashed with news of the Federal Government’s removal of subsidy on premium motor spirit also known as fuel. This news came as a shocker to Nigerians and as a reason for some group of people (THE WAILING WAILERS) who do not want to move on with their life after the 2015 Presidential elections to justify their support for then President Goodluck Jonathan. Later that same day, the Government through its Minister for State for Petroleum released a statement that seems to not affirm or deny the news of subsidy removal. Unlike the previous Government where Nigerians came out in mass to protest against subsidy removal, many Nigerians will not protest this one or only a few disgruntled elements who sees everything as politics or attach ethnic coloration to everything will do so. Below are some of the reasons why There would be no protest. 1. DUE CONSULTATIONS: Going by the statement released by the Minister for State for Petroleum Dr. Ibe Kachickukwu, the TUC, NLC and other stakeholders in Nigeria were duly consulted before taking this decision. Forget the threat by NLC they just want to make it look like they ‘ve not failed Nigerians. The question is were they not represented in the meeting? What is their take on Saraki still occupying The Senate Presidency? What is their take on most of our universities on strike etc. Why is it that NLC only knows how to cry when it involves oil? 2. SINCERITY: Even the President’s worst enemy knows he means well for Nigeria. They know whatever decision he takes is for the overall good of every Nigerian. Many will ask if the previous Government never meant well for the country? The answer lies on the characters and personalities of the two leaders and their stance on corruption and mismanagement. Many believed the former’s Petroleum minister was corruption personified who said she was untouchable while the later is a man of proven integrity who will make judicious use of the proceeds from subsidy removal. 3. TACTFULNESS: Even till this moment, no one can say for sure that Petroleum subsidy has been removed. The government in their wisdom wants to go about it in the best possible ways as not to generate public outcry on the issue. The statement by the Minister proved that. The government knows the implications of removing fuel subsidy and has deviced the best possible ways out of it. Unlike the previous Government who woke up on January 1st when most Nigerians were still returning from Christmas and New year Celebrations and announced fuel subsidy removal. 4. FAITH IN THIS GOVERNMENT: Believe it or not there is an overwhelming belief in this Government. I dare anyone to conduct a sincere public opinion poll on their perception of this Government and you will be shocked on the percentage that will affirm their support for this Government. Forget some of the comments by some nitwits online who does not have grasp of economic issues and present economic woes but do so out of religious or ethnic sentiments that has kept them where they are. Most Prominent Nigerians are sympathetic to this Government this may be connected to their belief that this Government is still in its nascent stage and it’s meaningless criticizing it this early. 5. UNCONSTRUCTIVE OPPOSITION: The present opposition in Nigeria are headless, directionless and has no moral right to criticize or call for civil disobedience because it’s not in their modus operandi and has failed woefully when they were there. The present opposition led by uncouth, crass and crude Ayodele Fayose only flex their muscles when its religious and ethnic issues. Recently, the one who might have seen the issue as only affecting the South East or Christians just to create chaos in the land is answering to his involvement in money meant for arms purchase that was traced to his account. The other one who claims to be their media aide is busy looking for who to fight in the nearest night club tonight or spreading false news. 6. DIFFERENTIAL OIL PRICES: In 2012, When the previous administration removed fuel subsidy oil price was on the high side. Global oil market sold for over $90 per barrel as at January of that same year while today oil price is very much below $50. The powers that be made minimal or no significant impact on the lives of Nigerians in the mist of plenty why won’t they be able to pay for Petroleum subsidy hence the occupy Nigeria during that time. Today, Sane Nigerians would wonder why they should involve themselves in meaningless protest when the current global oil price is nothing to write home about. #copied benue.info/revealed-why-nigerians-wont-occupy-nigeria-as-fuel-subsidy-is-removed/ |

Politics / Unpaid Salaries: Ortom Says ” We Don’t Know When This Will End” by MrScript(m): 11:11am On May 09, 2016 |
Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has advised workers in the state not to fold their arms as it is uncertain when the economy of the state will improve enough to guarantee up-to-date payment of salaries. About 27 states in the country are struggling to pay workers salaries due to falling oil prices globally which has adversely affected the Federal Government’s revenue allocation to states. Governor Ortom who spoke on a phone-in programme on Radio Benue Thursday called on the people of the state to be patient while encouraging them to be creative and engage in businesses that will improve their economic condition and that of the state. ” I want to appeal to the people of Benue State be patient but to look inward and look outside the box. Try and be creative. Try and identify something that can add to your economic development and the state and begin to do it. Somewhere you will find support. “This is a divine government and I have a divine mandate to improve on your lives. For me as your Governor, I believe these challenges will make us stronger when we come out of it because new doors and frontiers will open, just open up yourself and begin to do something. ” For those who are civil servants, don’t fold your arms we don’t know when this will end, but at least it is not against the law that a public servants should be a farmer or should do any agricultural endeavor. So if you find yourself doing something, no matter how little it adds, it will help. ” For those who are business men, please open up, don’t think that you are defeated. For those who are unemployed, well we are making efforts to bring investors but begin to do something on your own that will add to something. ” That was how I started and Oracle business became a very big conglomerate that we have today that is generating employment to over 500 people. We started from nowhere, in my house, in my bedroom with my wife. So somebody else can do the same. Let’s not fold our arms, let’s begin to do something. And I believe that God will help us in the course of we doing it because, for us, we are sincere.” He said. |
