Health / Ways To Prevent Breast Cancer by Mrsulay: 12:39pm On Jul 20, 2019
1. Keep Weight in Check
It’s easy to tune out because it gets said so often, but maintaining a healthy weight is an important goal for everyone. Being overweight can increase the risk of many different cancers, including breast cancer, especially after menopause.

2. Be Physically Active
Exercise is as close to a silver bullet for good health as there is, and women who are physically active for at least 30 minutes a day have a lower risk of breast cancer. Regular exercise is also one of the best ways to help keep weight in check.

3. Eat Your Fruits & Vegetables – and Avoid Too Much Alcohol
A healthy diet can help lower the risk of breast cancer.  Try to eat a lot of fruits and vegetables and keep alcohol at moderate levels or lower (a drink a day or under).  While moderate drinking can be good for the heart in older adults, even low levels of intake can increase the risk of breast cancer.  If you don’t drink, don’t feel you need to start. If you drink moderately, there’s likely no reason to stop. But, if you drink more, you should cut down or quit.

4. Don’t Smoke
Smokers and non-smokers alike know how unhealthy smoking is.  On top of lowering quality of life and increasing the risk of heart disease, stroke, and at least 15 cancers – including breast cancer – it also causes smelly breath, bad teeth, and wrinkles. Now that’s motivation to stay smoke-free or work to get smoke-free.

5. Breastfeed, If Possible
Breastfeeding for a

Health / What Prolong Use Of Ear Piece Can Do To Your Health- Ent Consultant by Mrsulay: 7:29am On Sep 10, 2018
Prof. Titus Ibekwe, Consultant Surgeon, Ear, Nose and Throat at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada, has warned that cell phone addiction causes noise induced hearing loss. Ibekwe gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Abuja. Similarly, he warned that the spill of noise from cell phones could aggravate cardiovascular diseases, hypertension and stroke as well as cancer in later years. He noted that this adverse effect was common especially among young persons. Ibekwe, who is also the National Secretary of Otorhinolaryngological Society of Nigeria, noted that often time youths use the gadget to play music using ear piece for a very prolong time. Otorhinolaryngology is a surgical subspecialty within medicine that deals with conditions of the ear, nose and throat, and related structures of the head and neck. According to him, prolong use of ear piece to listen to music or any other sound from the phone completely obstruct the ear canal and do not allow escape of any of those sounds. NAN reports that ear canal is a tube running from the outer ear to the middle ear. The ENT expert who described the practice as very common and fashionable among the youth, emphasised that some even go to bed with ear piece for as long as six to seven hours, or while working. Nairaland / General / Nigeria To Experience Longest Total Lunar Eclipse On Friday – Scientist by Mrsulay: 8:09pm On Jul 26, 2018
Nigeria will on Friday night experience a spectacular total lunar eclipse, which will last for one hour, Prof. Augustine Ubachukwu, has said. Ubachukwu, the leader of Astronomy and Astrophysics Research Group of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, disclosed this on Thursday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja. He said: “Nigeria is set to experience a very spectacular total lunar eclipse on Friday, July 27, weather permitting. “It will be visible from 9:30.p.m. and last till 11: 220 p.m. “This total lunar eclipse will be primarily visible from the world’s Eastern Hemisphere, which are Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. “Part of South America will be able to watch the final stages of the eclipse just after sunset on July 27. “New Zealand will catch the beginning stages of the eclipse before sunrise on July 28. “It will be the century’s longest total lunar eclipse with a whopping one hour and 43 minutes in totality. “It starts with a partial eclipse at 7:24 p.m. The total eclipse begins at 8.30 p.m., and ends at 10.13 p.m. The peak of the eclipse will occur at 9.22 p.m. The partial eclipse ends at 11.19 p.m.’’ Ubachukwu observed that a lunar eclipse could occur only on the night of a full moon. The scientist said during a total lunar eclipse, the earth completely blocks direct sunlight from reaching the moon, while the only light reflected from the lunar surface would be refracted by earth’s atmosphere. According to him, unlike solar eclipses, lunar eclipses are safe to view without any eye protection or special precautions as they appear dimmer than the full moon. The professor, however, said that the next total lunar eclipse that would be visible in Nigeria would occur on January 21, 2019. Prof. Rabiu Babatunde, the Director, Centre for Atmospheric Research in Kogi told NAN that people should not be perturbed at the occurrence. Nairaland / General / 2019: Etsu Nupe Warns Politicians To Stop Using His Pictures To Campaig by Mrsulay: 2:59pm On Jun 19, 2018
Chairman, of Niger State council of traditional rulers and the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, has warned politicians in the state to stop using his pictures in their posters with the aim of winning the sympathy of the electorates for 2019 general elections. The royal father also frowned at the attitude of some politicians from his domain trying to involve him in their politics and campaign towards the 2019 general elections. The monarch spoke at his Wadata Palace, in Bida, on Saturday, when he received a delegation of the ruling houses and some traditional title holders in the emirate who paid him the traditional sallah homage. The monarch pointed out that it was embarrassing to his office for politicians in his emirate and throughout the state to resort to printing posters and mounting billboards with their pictures placed side by side with his. According to him, “I am not a politician I have not endorsed anybody for any political position, and I don’t intend to endorse anyone” Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar declared. The traditional ruler however advised politicians to play the game according to the rules, saying that “they should also eschew bitterness and character assassination during their campaigns”. He, therefore, announced his plan to set up a rehabilitation centre in Bida to cater for the physically challenged in the society and therefore solicited for the support and contribution of his subjects for the smooth take off of the centre. In the same vein, the traditional ruler urged public spirited individuals in and outside the emirate to donate generously to the Bida Education foundation fund which he said was to complement government efforts in the funding of education in the Emirate. According to him ” government alone cannot fund education, they need our support”. He then urged his subjects to enrol their children in schools saying “Education is the only legacy a parent can leave for

However, on Tuesday, news started making the rounds that the portal had crashed. But the spokesman of the Corps, Commander Bisi Kazeem, in a statement on Tuesday denied the crash of the portal. Kazeem said: “Our attention has been drawn to the rumour going round that the Corps recruitment site crashed few hours after it went live. “We are much disturbed that Daily Post, an online media, will go to the press because of few complaints from people that could not get through either as a result of congestion or network. “We even learnt that contrary to instructions, some applicants are using hand held phones instead of computer. “Daily Post left out the experience of thousands of applicants that are getting through second per second which we are monitoring at our situation room created mainly for recruitment purposes. “Contrary to the speculations, we are pleased to inform you that the site has been stable with thousand applicants already acknowledged on the database. “Furthermore, there is need to state categorically that there is a dedicated site for the recruitment ( www.recruitment.frsc.gov.ng ) which is totally different from the frsc official website ( frsc.gov.ng ) which so many applicants are using. “For the avoidance of doubts, we have received more than 10,000 successful applications from applicants within one day and half window, specifically about 6000 today from our back end. “Applicants should please endeavour to call our toll free number 122, 08077690361, 08077690362 or send an email to recruitment@frsc.gov.ng whenever they encounter any hitch.”

Politics / Okonjo-iweala: Why I Leaked N17b Budget ‘padding’ by Mrsulay: 10:10am On May 28, 2018
Former Minister of Finance and Coordinating
Minister of the Economy during the regime of
former President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Ngozi
Okonjo-Iweala, on Sunday explained the reason
she decided to leak N17 billion budget “padding”
by the National Assembly in 2015, adding that it
was the “price to pay” for the passage of the
budget and not bribe as reported by the media.
Okonjo-Iweala said this on Sunday on her Twitter
handle.
She said she decided to expose the what
transpired behind closed door in order for the
country to move forward.
The former Minister in her book, titled: “Fighting
Corruption is Dangerous: The Story Behind the
Headlines,” had said: “By the time we presented
budget on December 16, 2014, the oil prices has
further fallen down to $58 per barrel. We were
prepared and knew we had to trigger the
additional expenditure and revenue measure in
2015 to make the budget work. This would be
tough, given that we had entered election year.
“Indeed, legislators initially refused to accept pay
cuts to their regular N150 billion budget, despite
dwindling revenues. But, eventually agreed to 13
percent cut against backdrop of Ministers
accepting voluntary 50 percent to their basic
salaries.
“In a tough session with the National Assembly
ad-hoc committee on budget (made up chairs of
Finance committee and Appropriation Committee
of both chambers and other leaders of National
Assembly), an additional N20 billion was
reintroduced as election expenses for the
National Assembly members.
“We insisted that the amount should be dropped
because it nullified the 13 percent cut to their
statutory budget, but managed N20 billion figure
by only N3 billion to N17. This become the price
to have 2015 budget passed.”
However, Okonjo-Iweala in response to the media
report on Sunday on her Twitter handle said
mischief makers are trying to distort the content
of her book.
She also faulted the reaction of the Majority
Leader of the House of Representatives, Femi
Gbajabiamila, to her position on the issue.
She tweeted: “It has come to my attention that
mischief makers are again trying to distort what
is written in my book, ‘Fighting Corruption is
Dangerous: the Story Behind the Headlines’, for
their own political purposes.
“One more time, It is important that people read
the book for themselves. In the case of the N17
billion, the book does not talk of bribe. It
indicates that lawmakers increased the budget
by N17 billion and we had to accept that to
move on;

Nairaland / General / Things That Validate And Invalidate Fasting by Mrsulay: 9:31pm On May 16, 2018
The Arabic word for fasting is called "sawm" in the Quran. The word sawm literally means "to abstain". Chapter Maryam of the Quran says that Mary the mother of Jesus said "I have vowed a "sawm" (fast) for the sake of the Merciful, so today I shall not speak to anyone." [Quran 19:26 ]. According to Shariyah , the word sawm means to abstain from all those things that are forbidden during fasting from the break of dawn to the sunset, and to do this with the intention of fasting. Purpose of Fasting In chapter 2 verse 183 the Quran says, "O you who believe, fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those who were before you, in order that you may learn taqwa (piety)". Things That Invalidate the Fast You must avoid doing anything that may render your fast invalid. Things that invalidate the fast and require qadaa' (making up for these days) are the following: 1 - Eating, drinking or smoking deliberately, including taking any non-nourishing items by mouth or nose. 2 - Deliberately causing yourself to vomit. 3 - The beginning of menstrual or post-childbirth bleeding even in the last moment before sunset. 4 - Sexual intercourse or other sexual contact (or masturbation) that results in ejaculation (in men) or vaginal secretions (orgasm) in women. 5 - Eating, drinking, smoking or having sexual intercourse after Fajr (dawn) on the mistaken assumption that it is not Fajr time yet. Similarly, engaging in these acts before Maghrib (sunset) on the mistaken assumption that it is already Maghrib time. Sexual intercourse during fasting is forbidden. Those who engage in it must make both qadaa' (make up the fasts) and kaffarah (expiation by fasting for 60 days after Ramadan or by feeding 60 poor people for each day of fast broken in this way). According to Imam Abu Hanifah, eating and/or drinking deliberately during fast also entail the same qadaa' and kaffarah. Things That Do Not Invalidate Fasting Using a miswak to clean your teeth does not invalidate fasting During fast, the following things are permissible: 1 - Taking a bath or shower. If water is swallowed involuntarily it will not invalidate the fast. According to most of the jurists, swimming is also allowed in fasting, but one should avoid diving, because that will cause the water to go from the mouth or nose into the stomach. 2 - Using perfumes, wearing contact lenses or using eye drops. 3 - Taking injections or having a

Health / 7 Effective Ways To Reduce Your Pot Belly Naturally by Mrsulay: 6:59am On May 06, 2018
If you stand up straight and look straight down, and you can’t see your toes, then you probably have a pot belly. Like most people, your mind probably jumps straight to solutions like ‘more exercise’ or ‘a better diet’ as ways to reduce your pot belly naturally. But there are actually a lot of things that contribute to a pot belly, and some of them are an easy fix. Here are 7 effective ways to reduce your pot belly naturally. 1. Good Posture – The Quickest Way to Reduce Your Pot Belly Naturally Stand up ‘straight’, and you’ll immediately see that your belly looks flatter. Try it and see. Posture is one of the easiest and most natural things to change, that will noticeably reduce your pot belly naturally. To find your ideal standing posture, try this: Stand with your feet slightly apart Make sure your knees are ‘soft’ (not locked out) Point your tailbone down toward the ground (push hips slightly forward) Lift your ribs up and straighten your spine Roll your shoulders back, and then down Pull your chin back Lengthen your neck, as if your head was pulling toward the ceiling. What sorts of cues or reminders could you use to help you improve your posture? 2. Strengthen Your Core Muscles Good posture is supported by strong muscles – especially your core muscles. Try doing pot belly exercises every week to work your core. And there are actually many different core muscles: your lower (transverse) abdominals your ‘6-pack’ muscles (rectus abdominus)

Politics / Fg Releases Names Of Treasury Looters by Mrsulay: 8:57pm On Mar 30, 2018
The Federal Government has released the names
of some persons who allegedly looted the
nation’s treasury.
The Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai
Mohammed, released the list in a press briefing
in Lagos on Friday.
Mohammed clarified that the “treasury looters”
were individuals who were officials in the past
government.
According to the list, the individuals include PDP
chieftains who are currently being tried for
corruption and financial crimes.
The minister further enjoined Nigerians to
jettison the apology of the party stressing that
the PDP looted the treasury dry under their
watch.
Mohammed said: “The PDP has challenged us to
name the looters under their watch. They said
they did not loot the treasury. Well, I am sure
they know that the treasury was looted dry under
their watch. Yet they decided to grandstand. This
shows the hollowness of their apology.”
He further stated that the decision of the
government to release the   names of the alleged
looters and the funds they allegedly looted was
because of the response by the PDP, telling the
APC-led government to name those that have
destroyed the economy by looting the treasury.
He further stated that this is just a tip of the
iceberg and some of the cases are still in court,
stressing that the list is not a mere imagination
of the APC.
Mohammed said: “They are in court and the
records are available. Some of the people on this
list are seeking plea bargain and that is a fact.
“We insist that Nigeria was looted blind under the
watch of the PDP and that the starting point in
tendering an apology is for them to return the
loot.”
He further stated that the APC-led government
will not stop talking about the alleged looting of
the PDP.
He added: “We will not stop talking about the
massive looting of the PDP. They brought Nigeria
to this sorry pass. We are now looking around
for loans to build infrastructure, and they ask us
not to talk about it.”
The Eagle Online reports that the list has the
current PDP Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus,
who allegedly according to the list took N200
million on the 19 of February 2015 from the
office of the NSA while  former PDP financial
secretary also allegedly took N600 million from
the office of the NSA too.
Former PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa

N1.4 billion also from the office of the NSA and
the Chairman of DAAR Communications, Dr

Former Vice President and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has openly declared his intention to contest the position of the President in 2019. Abubakar made this known on Tuesday during a visit to the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike. On the trip with Abubakar were leaders of the PDP, who were in the state to consult with chieftains of the party in Rivers State. He said he was offering himself to set the country on the path of growth after “the serial failure” of the All Progressives Congress. He said that since 2015, the APC Federal Government had destroyed the education, health and infrastructural sectors through poor budgetary allocations and releases. He said: “Since 2015, we have not seen a 100- kilometre road constructed by the APC Federal Government anywhere in the country.” Abubakar pointed out that the APC Federal Government had destroyed the foundation of unity and cohesion of the country. He said: “I have never seen Nigeria so divided along religious, ethnic and regional lines. “This division is as a result of the mismanagement of the APC.” Wike urged all PDP members irrespective of their status to ensure that the march to the Presidential Villa was not truncated by disunity. He urged presidential aspirants on the platform of the PDP to contest within acceptable limits, adding that the race should not be a do-or-die affair, but a movement to oust a failed APC Federal Government. Wike said: “Every presidential aspirant must see himself as a member of the larger PDP family. “We must do everything to ensure that the PDP returns to the Presidential Villa in 2019. “Only one aspirant will become a

He explained that the body is made to digest food upright after meal and everything should be done to support such process.
He said: “People should try to avoid anything that can trigger off stomach upset and abdominal pains.’’
Ahmed emphasised that the common experience of discomfort in the stomach and abdominal pai is either indigestion, gastric or wind, which is the breath of normal breathing and talking.
The medical expert also explained that eating too much at one go could also be a predisposing factor to abdominal pains, adding that one should eat moderately at all times.
He added that gas-generating foods like beans whether dried beans, soya beans, baked beans when consumed, may cause might also cause changes in digestion and can cause abdominal pain.

Nairaland / General / We’ve Removed HND, B.sc Dichotomy In Federal Civil Service ―FG by Mrsulay: 8:23am On Mar 16, 2018
No This was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary, Service, Policies and Strategies Office, Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Ndubuisi Osuji, at the 40th National Council on Establishment holding in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
The Federal Government said it has removed the dichotomy between holders of Higher National Diploma and Degree in the Federal Civil Service.
This was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary, Service, Policies and Strategies Office, Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Ndubuisi Osuji, at the 40th National Council on Establishment holding in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
Owing to this development, the Federal Government said it has enhanced the entry Salary Grade Level for all category of HND holders in the Federal Civil Service from Level 07 to Grade Level 08.
Osuji said this was in compliance with the decisions reached at the 39th National Council on Establishment.
A statement on Thursday in Abuja by an Assistant Director, Media Relations, Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Timothy Akpoli, on behalf of the Director of Communications, quoted Osuji to have said the decisions reached at the 39th NCE were fully implemented through various circulars conveyed to the relevant stakeholders.
He listed some of these decisions to include uniform Scheme of Service for all category of Nurses with the common nomenclature of “Nursing Officers”: Internship for graduate Nurses who do not possess the professional Registered Nurse/Registered Midwife qualification; enhancing entry Salary Grade Level 08 for all category of Higher National Diploma holders; and creation of Assistant Education Officers Cadre SGL 07 – 14 for candidates with the requisite qualification in Special Education.
Osuji also said the meeting would consider a total of 80 memoranda comprising 18 reference cases and 66 new memoranda, submitted by State Governments, Federal Government Agencies and other stakeholders.
In addition, he said the reports and recommendations of both the Standing Committees and Joint National Public Service Negotiating Councils were part of the agenda for the meeting.
According to him, the previous decisions of Council on the creation of new cadres, amendment or elongation of existing cadres, have been collated for inclusion in the on-going review of the Scheme of Service due to be published soon.
This, Osuji noted, would achieve the twin objectives of producing a single reference document for all cadres/professional groups in the Civil Service, as well as reduce the numerous requests for clarifications and interpretation on various establishment decisions of Council.
Osuji urged the participants to bring their wealth of experience to bear during the deliberation, adding that the experiences of the officials have place on them a unique position to evaluate the memoranda and recommend measures that would have positive impact on service delivery, as well as improve the processes and system of operations in the Civil Service.
The Head of Service, Imo State, Callistus Ekenze, in his address said the meeting will signpost a lot of issues and throw up matters that will at th end gladden the mind of workers.
Ekenze called on all participants

Nairaland / General / Nuj Hails Fg For Taking Steps To Check Hate Speech by Mrsulay: 8:50am On Feb 22, 2018
The Nigeria Union of Journalists has commended
the Federal Government for directing the National
Broadcasting Commission to sanction any Radio
or Television station that promotes hate speech.
The commendation was contained in a
communique issued by NUJ on Wednesday in
Kano at the end of its second National
Conference held between February 19 and
February 20.
The Communique, signed by the NUJ National
President and Secretary, Abdulwaheed Odusile
and Shuaibu Usman Leman respectively,
described the step taken by the Federal
Government as a welcome development.
The conference, therefore, enjoined the National
Broadcasting Commission to live up to its
responsibilities by monitoring and applying the
relevant sections of the law on erring broadcast
stations.
It stated: “The recent Federal Government’s
directive to NBC to sanction any Radio or
Television station that turns their platforms to
purvey hate speech is a welcome development.
“The conference also welcomes steps being
taken by the Federal Government through the
relevant agencies to strictly enforce the Cyber
Crime Act of 2015.
“The Act stipulates a punishment of five years
imprisonment or a fine of N10 million on anyone
convicted of an offence threatening violence or
insulting people based on ethnicity, religion or
race.”
The conference, however, stressed the need for
political, religious, traditional and other leaders to
lead by example and have self-control as well as
guide their aides and followers against making
hate speeches.
It also stated: “While the constitutional right of
freedom of speech and association remains
inviolable, political campaigns and speeches in
whatever form should be issues-based and
within the limits of the rules of the game.”
NUJ said as watchdog of the society and the
‘fourth estate of realm’, journalists should stem
the trend of hate speech but encourage freedom
of speech as guaranteed by the Nigerian
constitution.
It said: “They (journalists) should uphold the
fundamental objectives contained in the chapter
II of the Constitution and also the responsibility
and accountability of the government to the
people.’’
The conference also urged NUJ, the umbrella
body of media practice in the country, to educate
its members on the importance of self-respect,
discipline and to always uphold truth and
Justice.
It also called for the immediate empowerment of
the Nigerian Press Council to enable it carry out
its functions effectively.
The conference expressed appreciation to the
people and government of Kano State for the
hospitality and support accorded the NUJ to
successfully host the Conference.
The conference with the theme: “Hate speech:
Halting the Tide Before It Is Too Late” was
attended by 500 participants.
They included veteran journalists, media moguls,
former NUJ National Presidents; as well as
members of the National Executive Council from
the 36 states and FCT.

Education / What Makes A Great Teacher ? by Mrsulay: 3:00pm On Jan 17, 2018
What makes a great teacher? Study after study shows the single most important factor determining the quality of the education a child receives is the quality of his teacher. What makes a great teacher? Teaching is one of the most complicated jobs today. It demands broad knowledge of subject matter, curriculum, and standards; enthusiasm, a caring attitude, and a love of learning; knowledge of discipline and classroom management techniques; and a desire to make a difference in the lives of young people. With all these qualities required, it’s no wonder that it’s hard to find great teachers. Here are some characteristics of great teachers ? Great teachers set high expectations for all students . They expect that all students can and will achieve in their classroom, and they don’t give up on underachievers. Great teachers have clear, written-out objectives. Effective teachers have lesson plans that give students a clear idea of what they will be learning, what the assignments are and what the grading policy is. Assignments have learning goals and give students ample opportunity to practice new skills. The teacher is consistent in grading and returns work in a timely manner. Great teachers are prepared and organized. They are in their classrooms early and ready to teach. They present lessons in a clear and structured way. Their classrooms are organized in such a way as to minimize distractions. Great teachers engage students and get them to look at issues in a variety of ways. Effective teachers use facts as a starting point, not an end point; they ask “why” questions,

Nairaland / General / On Your Wedding Day; What To Do To Keep Your Marriage Safe And New Everyday by Mrsulay: 8:28am On Dec 29, 2017
1. Choose to love each other, even in those moments when you struggle to like each other. Love is a commitment, not a feeling.
2. Always answer the phone when your
husband/wife is calling. When possible, try to keep your phone off when you're together with your spouse .
3. Make time together a priority. Budget for a consistent date night. Time is the "currency of relationships," so consistently invest time into your marriage.
4. Surround yourself with friends who will strengthen your marriage. Remove yourself from people who may tempt you to compromise your character.
5. Make laughter the soundtrack of your
marriage. Share moments of joy. And even in the hard times, find reasons to laugh.
6. In every argument, remember that there
won't be a "winner" and a "loser." You're
partners in everything so you'll either win
together or lose together. Work together
