Jobs/Vacancies / Needed: Disabled Ladies To Compete. 18-50 Years by MsWheel: 9:59pm On May 03, 2010
The search is on for the First ever Ms. Wheelchair Nigeria pageant (MWN).
Ms. Wheelchair Nigeria pageant is a competition designed to select the most accomplished and articulate spokeswoman for the over 20 million Nigerians living with disabilities.
This pageant is not a ‘ beauty contest’ in the sense that there is no ‘emphasis’ on women's physical appearance other than we expect that all women, those who use and don't use wheelchairs, should radiate confidence in who they are and what they stand for. The pageant is meant to challenge traditional views of what makes someone beautiful. It challenges some wrong perceptions that people have toward those living with disabilities. The winners will serve as role model to other women. It will serve to integrate persons living with disability into the mainstream society by giving them a ‘hand-up’ instead of a ‘hand-out'.

Events / First Ever Ms. Wheelchair Nigeria Pageant Is On The Making by MsWheel: 8:20am On Nov 12, 2009
The first ever Ms. Wheelchair Nigeria pageant will take place in Nigeria in March 2010. Ms. Wheelchair Nigeria is a competition designed to select the most accomplished and articulate spokeswoman for the over 20 million Nigerians living with disabilities. The selected representative must be able to communicate both the needs and the accomplishments of her constituency to the general public, the business community and the legislature. It is the first of its kind in Africa and therefore will command a roll call of the crème de la crème in the showbiz, fashion, corporate and government sector. It will be a red carpet night filled with the razzmatazz and panache that is associated with a world class show.
Benefits:
1. The winner will serve as a role model and empower other young girls who ‘happen to use wheelchairs’ that they can be every bit successful, vibrant, and powerful as other women.
2. It challenges the artificial boundaries that seem to exist in the beauty and fashion industries and cast a new light on our concept of the ideal woman.
3. It raises social awareness and understanding about different disabilities.
4. It’s a great opportunity to celebrate diversity in voices, in appearance, in thought and in physical ability.
