Politics / APC Chieftain Escapes Assassination In Umuahia, Accuses Abia State Government by muchechekay: 9:16am On Nov 03, 2017
A chieftain of All Progressives Congress in Abia state, Mr. Destiny Chibuike Ukauwa has raised alarm over attempt to eliminate him and his family just as he accused agents of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu-led government of threatening his life.

Ukauwa recalled how he escaped assassination along the popular BCA road in Umuahia on Tuesday where some men suspected to be high killers with a camry car tried to block and shoot him, saying it was by the grace of God he outsmarted them.

Disclosing this to journalists in his office in Umuahia on Thursday evening, Ukauwa alleged that the attempt on his life by the agents of the state government was due to his aspiration to govern the state and also his consistent criticism of the draconian policies of Ikpeazu-led administration in Abia state.

He narrated, "I'm in a deep fear. Because I know the plot to assassinate me has to do with my ambition to vie for governorship seat of Abia come 2019. I strongly believe that this attack is coming from the ruling PDP government in the state.

"It happened two days ago, thats Tuesday evening around 8:00pm in when I was driving towards BCA road, Umuahia. And some men about eight of them, followed me up, I stopped, they also stopped and double crossed me. I tried to see if I could picture their faces
Because it was total black out.

"And what I heard was sound of gunshots everywhere. Their mission was to kill me. Even they didn't stop from there, they struggled to maneveour me. I don't know if is a crime for one to come out and say am tired to be in bondage. That people in Abia are tired to be in bondage. That we are tired of the kind of leadership we see in Abia state".

"Since the creation of Abia state, no governor that has won election that is peoples choices. It has always be by rigging. And I'm still imagining how Abia can be freed from such kind of criminal acts. I think the problem we are having in Abia today is as a result of this. Because they keep on imposing people we don't want on us".

" That's why the present government has no manifesto, no vision and blueprint for the state. They don't care about the well being of the people. They don't care to know how the people feels".

"But I'm surprised that this hoodlums that have been sent to kill me, that's to assassinate me because I am trying to let them know that it is time for us to make things right".

" I'm calling on President Muhammadu Buhari and the inspector General of police to investigate this. Let government investigate the salient killing of people in Abia state. Because we are in a democracy. One has right to express his or herself".

The ohuhu-born politician reiterated that no amount of harassment and intimidation will deter him from vying for the governorship seat of the state, saying he was on a mission to provide good governance to the people of Abia state.

Politics / "You Are A Dreamer" APGA Chieftain Onukwubiri Blast Abia Deputy Gov Okochukwu by muchechekay: 11:37am On Sep 04, 2017
APGA Chieftain, Sunday Onukwubiri have reacted on a trending news that says "PDP will defeat APGA and APC come 2019 election in Abia state by the state deputy Governor, Chief Ude Okochukwu.

On his reaction, he said;
Few days ago, the media trend was the unpopular pronouncement of the deputy governor of Abia state, chief Ude Okochukwu, who boasted saying "PDP will defeat APGA and APC come 2019 general elections" One do not need any medical report to know that the deputy governor is experiencing a mental imbalance combined with a sleeping malady.

How dare Ude Okochukwu, former speaker who could not even win his constituency with all the military and police personnel at his disposal courtesy of Chief T A Orji (the owner of Abia PDP), open his cavity to make and unpopular and unqualified statement against the people's party, APGA in Abia state? He needs to be told to his face that he has shown the stuff of his political imbecility, not knowing the reality of his political environment. No wonder, Chinua Achebe in his legendary book things fall apart, says " He that the gods cracked his kernel should not talk when men are talking" Ude Okochukwu should not open his mouth in the political matters of Abia state having been roundly humiliated in Abia North, his political district.

The question: Is Ude Okochukwu thinking 2019 election will go the same way of 2015 where the rigging expertise of chief T A Orji and the added complicity of the judiciary made Ude Okochukwu the unfortunate deputy governor? Instead of engaging himself meaningfully with what he is going to do after now, because his political relevance is ending with governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu and he cannot contest senatorial position in Abia North and win come 2019, he is busy talking about an impossible task of defeating APGA in 2019.

Really, Mr deputy governor is dreaming. One wonders the PDP Dr Okochukwu is referring to, maybe he is not aware of the saying of the old people " The crab that escaped from a trap, should check its legs well whether the legs are still complete" One wonders the strength of the PDP in the piece of the deputy governor, is it a PDP that has remained a skeleton in the state? A PDP that her members are ashamed of identifying themselves with? A PDP that has lost all the taste in her? May be, Mr deputy governor needs somebody to inform him that PDP in Abia is a leper and is quarantined. Mr deputy governor should have covered his face in shame wearing a gab of political skeleton as a cloth, most unfortunate. I know Abians will not listen to this Mr infant deputy, who do not know the problems of his political constituency, but only answering " Yes Sir" to the table of governance in which he is a total stranger to her activities. It is most unfortunate.

No wonder, Mr deputy governor introduced his road map to 2019, his connivance with the security to arrest the likes of Dan Iyke, whose offense was telling Abians the truth they need to hear. Mr deputy governor is simply signalling to Abians that he is preparing a full list of journalists and social media authors for arrests for their duty in publishing his xrayed political incapacitation for Abians to see. Yes, that's the way to defeat APGA in 2019.

I think by now, Chief Ude Okochukwu, the deputy governor, should preoccupy himself with his secret plans to join another party to launder his battered political image in PDP instead of embarking on a political mission impossible journey of 2019. It is quite unfortunate that the deputy governor is not aware that his Abia PDP is in life support and will die as soon as the oxygen is finally withdrawn in 2018, where comes the prophesied victory by Chief Ude Okochukwu?

APGA is the party, we welcome Mr deputy governor at the other end of 2019, he said.

Politics / Breaking! Ibeku Youths Assembly Re-affirm Support For Amb. Charles Nzechi by muchechekay: 5:03pm On Aug 09, 2017
A group, Ibeku Youth Assembly on Wednesday reaffirmed their earlier position that Ohuhu clan in Umuahia north local government area of Abia state should be allowed to produce next representative for Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency based on the charter of equity that has been existing in the constituency.

This follows an alleged meeting convened by a group of youths, said to have been sponsored and hired by a prominent Ibeku politician, kicking the position of Ibeku Youth Assembly on the endorsement.

The President of (IYA), Mr.Kingsley Nwokeukwu flanked by the Secretary, Ihechi Chinedu Zik and other executive members of the group stated this on Wednesday in Umuahia, the state capital said in the interest of equity, justice and fairness, our brothers from Ohuhu clan should be supported, because other clans in Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal constituency, like Umuopara, Ibeku, Ikwuano, Old Umuahia and Ikwuano again had taken their shots.

He said:"Last week we issued a communique which was published in some of the national dailies where we, the Ibeku youths threw our weight behind our brothers and sisters from ohuhu to take a shot for Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency seat come 2019".
"To set the record straight, we were not bribed or induced to endorse Ohuhu clan for the seat. Based on the charter of equity which has been in existence in Ikwuano/Umuahia, we believe it is the turn of Ohuhu to be there. It will be disservice to us and ohuhu people if they are denied the seat".

"We are reaffirming our earlier position, that is Ohuhu son or daughter should be supported in the interest of peace and fairness".
On why the youth group endorsed Mr. Charles Nzechi for the seat of Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal constituency seat, Nwokeukwu said Nzechi was adopted and endorsed for the office based on his antecedents in the area of philanthropic services, youth empowerment, education and business.

He explained that Ibeku youths have total confidence on Charles Nzechi, saying he(Nzechi)will bring to bear his wealth of experiences by ensuring democracy dividends gets to the doorsteps of the people of Ikwuano/Umuahia.
Nwokeukwu dismissed allegations that Ibeku Youth Assembly was induced to carry out the endorsement, saying that the endorsement was carried out after thorough assessment and his track records.

"Let me make it clear that Ibeku Youth Assembly was not induced in anyway to endorse, Mr. Charles Nzechi. Charles Nzechi as you know and believe that he is a young man, who have empowered hundreds of our youths through his foundation, Charles Nzechi Foundation. After, thorough assessment, we found out that he has what it takes to be at the federal House of Representatives".
He, however said the group has uncovered an alleged plan by a faceless group, to initiate his arrest him and other executive members of Ibeku Youth Assembly stance on power shift.

" We are not perturbed. We had that they have hatcheted plan to arrest me and other executives of the group. We are carrying out our lawful activities, no amount of intimidation, harassment and name-calling will deter us from standing on truth".

Nairaland / General / "A Leader Without Frontier", By Ifeanyi Okali by muchechekay: 4:35pm On Jun 03, 2017
It was Harvey S. Firestone who said that the growth and development of people is the highest calling of leadership. Suffice me to say here that the greatness of any man is not vested on the amount of wealth amassed during a lifetime, but the amount of sunshine one brings upon the lives of other people around him. This is the spirit of the Sun and it's called SELFLESSNESS.

Men come in sizes and operate in places in phases, but only great men leave indelible marks on the sands of time and hearts of men, women and children inclusive, around them.

Ambassador Charles Nzechi happens to be a man who has bared his heart to touching the lives of many too numerous to mention. The poor and the needy are singing eulogies not as an act of sycophancy nor are they blowing unnecessary trumpet notes, but as a means of thanksgiving to the good act of kindness and accelerated succour brought upon their lives.

Under the auspices of the wonderful platforms of the Charles Nzechi Foundation and Multiple Travel Ltd, you've brought unimaginable assistance to many too numerous to mention. Your philanthropic gestures and benevolence is unrivalled as it corroborates the deep words of Miriam Bard, "The results of philanthropy are always beyond calculation." I can also assert vehemently here that you've shown your leadership mettle. You've shown yourself as a leader without frontier blazing across boundaries, breaking barriers and bridging relationships to foster unity. That's why I call you a leader without frontier.

I celebrate your munificent spirit
I celebrate your laudable achievement
I celebrate your egalitarian spirit
I know it's time for merriment.

Happy birthday Ambassador Charles Nzechi!
I pray long life and good health for you sir!!
Long live Ambassador Charles Nzechi!!!

Politics / "Governor Ikpeazu Pay Me My Gratuity", Retired Blind Man Cries Out by muchechekay: 1:02pm On Jun 03, 2017
A retired blind primary school teacher in Abia State, Mr. George Nwabuisi, has appealed to the state government to pay him his gratuity and outstanding pension arrears to enable him take care of himself.

66-year-old Nwabuisi who hails from Obeawom Amahia, Akanu Nchara in Ikwuano LGA of the state, said apart from being a blind man, his greatest challenge had been the irregular payment of his pension since he retired from the service after putting in 15 unbroken years as a classroom teacher.

Narrating his ordeal, Nwabuisi told Abia Breaking News that his sight challenge started 35 years ago when he was working with one Ibru Organisation as a secretary in Lagos State. He said,

“I was not born blind, I obtained my GCE advanced level in typing shorthand and English in the year 1975/76. Then I went to Lagos, where I worked with a firm called the Ibru Organisation at 33, Creek Road, Apapa, Lagos State as the secretary for complete six and half years before I started noticing signs of blindness.

“I have gone for treatment at the Lagos State University teaching Hospital, I have gone to one doctor at Aba, who now works at the Specialist Clinic in Umuahia. The last place I went for treatment was Abak Eyes Special Clinic in Akwa Ibom State where foreign doctors treated me; all to no avail. It was this blindness that made me to lose my job in Lagos, So, I came back to my village to face my doom. But by the special grace of God, I met an American doctor at Mercy Hospital, Aba, who advised me to study braille.

“After doing the braille, I picked up teaching job. I taught with blindness in the midst of sighted because I wanted the people around here to understand that ‘the blind can see’. That was why I taught here. I gave my people a surprise they will never forget in a haste for the 15 years I taught at Nchara Loko Central School.”

Nwabuisi, however, lamented that life had not been easy for him since he retired from his teaching job after attaining the 60 years retirement age. He said, “I was retired on the 14th of February 2014. My challenge now is that since my retirement, I have not got my gratuity and my pension is not coming regularly.

“The last pension I received was that of September 2016. Since then, I have not got any other alert despite that they were owing me gratuity and nine months pension arrears. Since I retired from the teaching job, I have not been doing anything. My wife has been the one taking care of my family with her farm work. I have three children; a daughter and a set of twin boys. My daughter is the only person I trained in the university. She studied Psychology at Madonna University, Okija. My worry now is that she has nothing doing.

Crime / Yakubu Gowon The Shameless Liar And His Fake Prayers – C’fine Okorochukwu by muchechekay: 2:50pm On May 29, 2017
Yakubu Gowon is an unrepentant liar and a coward, you waited for the lion of Biafra to die for you to come out like an slowpoke and said that he lied about Aburi, just go and hide your face in shame and stop that your deceitful prayers.

Once in my Facebook page I said we Igbo’s cannot forgive YAKUBU GOWON. This was after reading through the account of Nigeria – Biafra war. My Facebook friends asked me to forgive as a Christian. But recent distortion of fact is an insult to God and Igbo nation. I thought all his limitations during the war was because of age and limited education, but having claimed he went back to the university and still talk like person from dark ages makes my heart bleed.

Assuming without conceding that Achebe wrote out of ignorance (Gown account) same cannot be ascribed to Wole Soyinka the greatest man Nigeria has ever produced. Who also collaborated the Achebe’s account of the war? This is another deceit by Gown the self acclaimed prayer warrior, who is transforming to be the “NEW FACE OF LIES”.

Gowon, you satanically stated without shame that Igbo’s caused the war by stating “In fact, if there was no secession by the south eastern part of the country, there would have been no civil war because right from the beginning of the crises, the war would have been averted if not for the secession. It was something I believed we could have stopped” If not out of your ineptitude, lack of administrative skills, verbal and intellectual capacity, devoid of courage and confidence you would have stopped the pogrom that led to the issue of session.
By this statement “It was the Igbo that objected to the creation of corridor for movements of medical aid and food supplies to the civilian population at the period; on this, I am ready to face the International Criminal Court of Justice at the Hague for prosecution over the role played by me during the war and, fortunately, some Nigerians are still alive to bear witness to the roles played by both the leadership of the secessionist group and the then Federal Military Government under my leadership,” I will then ask you why not allow the people killing the Beroms daily in hundreds to process their food.

You concluded by saying that you have no regrets over your roles in the civil war. Specifically you have no regrets about the genocide with mass starvation, guns and ammunition followed by financial enslavement. Why then did you apologize in Asaba? this is your own words if you have forgotten “It came to me as a shock when I came to know about the unfortunate happenings that happened to the sons and daughters of this state especially of this (Asaba) domain. I felt very touched and honestly I referred to it (killings) and ask for forgiveness being the one who was in charge that time. Certainly, it is not something that I would have approved of in whatsoever. I was made ignorant of it, I think until it appeared in the papers. A young man wrote a book at that time… It just happened seven hours ago when I was visiting the state for our nation prayers, I took the opportunity of being with his Royal Majesty (Asagba of Asaba) to make this public apology on behalf of myself and government of Nigeria at that time and to ask for forgiveness as we have to look at the future. I feel very touched when we came this time to hear his majesty refer to it again”

In this apology you claimed you were not aware of the genocide and atrocities but today you claimed there was none at all hence you have no regrets. But the facts below will expose your satanic lies. One of the most contradictory facts to demonstrate the inaccuracy of Gowon’s assertion comes from Gowon’s own wartime Federal Information Commissioner and foremost Nigerian war propagandist during the civil war, Chief Anthony Enahoro. In the first few months of 1998, one Jumoke Ogunkeyede, head of the “United Committee to Save Nigeria” organized a kind of reconciliation meeting between Chief Anthony Enahoro and some Igbos in New Jersey, USA. In that meeting, and in answer to one of the questions posed to Chief Enahoro about his anti-Biafran role during the civil war, Chief Enahoro, who thankfully, said in part:

“Do you really know anything about what happened during that war? I was the one that stopped late Gen. Murtala Mohammed from further massacre of innocent children and mothers. At a point when Britain refused to sell further arms to Nigeria because they had ample evidence from the Red Cross of the federal forces killing innocent civilians, I confronted Gowon with the fact and that the only way I can get Britain through my contact with their High Commissioner to resume a supply of weapon to Nigeria was that Murtala had to leave that war sector. Either Murtala leaves or I will have to leave his cabinet. Gowon told me that he is willing to call a meeting and on the condition I will be the one to confront Murtala( as a coward you can not face MURTALA).

If there was anybody that Gowon feared so much it was Murtala Mohammed. At the meeting of the Federal Executive Council, I confronted Mohammed with elaborate evidence complete with photographs. He was livid. He could not refute them so he resorted to calling me all sorts of names prompting me to observe before the council that if he was a fine officer as he claims to be, he should not be acting the way he was acting. Needless to say that I was instrumental to his withdrawal from that sector and subsequent appointment as a minister”.

(See “The Nigerian and Africa” magazine, March 1998, page 10)
From this uncoerced and uninduced testimony of Chief Enahoro, one can make the following observations:
1. That Murtala’s genocidal campaign against the Midwestern Igbos was well known and documented by the Red Cross
2. That the genocide imperiled Nigerian’s ability to secure arms supply from Britain.
3. That in attempt to maintain British arms supply to Nigeria, Chief Enahoro confronted Gowon with this reality widely documented by the Red Cross.
4. That Gowon was reluctant to confront Murtala with the allegation and indeed would not confront Murtala with it unless Enahoro would do it by himself, which he did, and
5. That it took a threat from Enahoro to Gowon “to leave his cabinet”, for Gowon to eventually address the issue and remove Murtala and commander of the 2nd infantry Division.

I must say that Enahoro’s sincerity in his testimony is commendable. Enahoro admitted that his quest to stop Murtala’s murderous campaign among the Midwestern Igbos was to save the British arms supply to Nigeria and not out of sympathy or concern for the lives of those Igbos for whatever they were worth (at least not on the record). I think that Gowon should emulate this Enahoro’s sincerity and not come 45 years later to claim that he didn’t know something he abundantly knew.

Nor is Enahoro’s testimony in isolation as facts contrary to Gowon’s claim of oblivion of events in the Midwest at the time. The New York Times, on its April 5, 1968 issue, carried the following story “in relation to Murtala’s genocidal campaign in the Midwest”
Monsignor Rochcau, one of the two papal delegates representing Pope Paul VI in Nigeria, reports in Le Monde, a Paris newspaper, today that “between Benin and Asaba only widows and orphans remain, Federal troops having for unknown reasons massacred all the men”.
It is common knowledge that Nigerian diplomats during the war read every major newspaper in search of “Biafran propaganda” to neutralize. I don’t know how Gowon could claim he did not know of a genocidal activity that was widely reported by the Red Cross and prominent foreign newspapers. Furthermore, it is a fact of history that the three Division Commanders that Gowon unleashed on Biafra were ruthless human beings with proven genocidal propensities: Col. Mohammed Shuwa- commander of the First Infantry Division, Col. Murtala Mohammed, commander of the 2nd Division and Col. Benjamin Adekunle, Commander of the third Marine Division. Murtala’s genocidal instincts and campaign have already been discussed above.

The military campaign of 1st Division commander, Col. Mohammed Shuwa (and Col. Theophilus Danjuma, his deputy Commander) was no less ruthless than that of Col Mohammed, even though it was less universally known. In military campaigns, it is usually assumed that more senior military officers are more restrained from unnecessary violence and that they also tend to act to restrain the lower ranks from unnecessary indiscipline and wantonness in their campaign. But regrettably, this was quite the opposite with Col. Mohammed Shuwa( YOU CAN SEE HOW HE ENDED) and his top officers that invaded Biafra from the north in July 1967. On the contrary, Col Shuwa actually mandated his troops to exercise the utmost violence on the Biafrans.
A New York Times war correspondent who visited Shuwa and Danjuma’s command headquarters in Makurdi in the last week of October 1967 found a directive dated September 16, 1967, issued as a general order (G.O.) hanging on the bulletin board. It has been issued by Col Shuwa to his troops:

“You are therefore required to push ahead ruthlessly to vanquish the rebels in your way. You will tell this to all your men because rebels have no honor and no respect for the dignity of mankind. You are bound to have heavier casualties than hitherto but you cannot win a war without heavy casualties” (See New York Times, Tuesday, October 24, 1967, p 20, Column 3)
Now, here comes Africa’s famous Black Scorpion, Col. Benjamin Adekunle, whose genocidal instincts against Biafrans were well documented by reporters that covered the war. Addressing war correspondents at his Divisional Headquarters in the compound of Saint Michael’s Anglican Church and School in Elelewa on May 17, 1968, Col Adekunle told them with visible delight that he has besieged thousands of Biafrans inside the city of Port Harcourt “with no escape route except to jump in the water”. (See New York Times, May 20, 1968, page 1, col 7). In another interview with reporters on July 14, 1968, he termed all relief plans for Biafra as “Misguided humanitarian rubbish”.[READ MORE]...

Nairaland / General / Group Condemns Demotion Of Mrs Ezichi Maryleen by muchechekay: 9:44am On Apr 06, 2017
*The Incarceration of Mrs. Ezichi Maryleen, the Headmistress of Amaetiti Primary School, Asaga Ohafia by the Abia State Government, is Embarrassing Us.*

The Young Leaders Association of Nigeria, known as Nigerian Youths Forum, Abia State Chapter condemns in strong terms the continuous victimization of the primary school headmistress whose only offence was to plead for her over five months unpaid salaries by the Abia State Government of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu. Mrs. Maryleen Ezichi was the Headmistress of Amaetiti Primary School, Asaga Ohafia until last month, March, when she was allegedly whisked away from her place of work to Umuahia and thereafter handed over to her a transfer letter to another primary school in Ukwa-East Local Government Area to resume as a classroom teacher.

The news which has been reported by various media as first trumpeted by the Punch Newspaper alleged that the innocent woman’s ordeal came as a result of her “embarrassing” the wife of the governor Nkechi Ikpeazu who was in that school to kick-off her one free meal programme for the primary school pupils. The embarrassment was that Mrs. Maryleen Ezichi pleaded with Nkechi Ikpeazu to please intercede on behalf of the teachers to the state government for their over five months unpaid salaries to enable them buy foods for their children, pay house rents, take care of medical need of their wards, pay debts, and other needs. But surprisingly, instead of having pity on these starving teachers who are putting up their best to groom these little primary school pupils for a greater society, the governor’s wife connived with her husband to demote the woman and transfer her to a remote area, about 140 kilometers away, with a stern instruction to resume immediately. This is the height of injustice and inhumanity to humanity. No other type of incarceration can be worse than this.

What baffles us is that the Abia State Government and its officials who are supposed to tell Abia community the truth of the matter are busy denying awareness of the event which has been in the public domain for more than a week now. We begin to wonder if the present government is turning Abia into a stage drama. Regrettably, another official of the government, Uche Olehi, who is a Personal Assistant to the Governor on Media was quoted to have said in an interview with an online medium that the headmistress was not redeployed because she complained of unpaid salaries, but because she “was running a beer parlour on the premises of the school”. We have tried so hard to link even an iota of truth in this claim but could not. How will somebody in her right senses run a beer parlour in a primary school? Who will patronize her? The primary school pupils? This kind of tales can only come when the government is grasping for grounds to cover up its unfairness to the people it is meant to protect and advance.

We are also bewildered by the actions of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) and Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) Abia State chapters. They have maintained a dead silence over the matter as usual. The NUT, Abia State Chapter Chairman who managed to speak to a news medium also claimed ignorance of the incident, taking the same pattern of the government and using the same language of the government officials. We think that they are reading the script given to them by the government. The umbrella bodies which are supposed to speak and protect this gallant woman have rather decided to carry handbag for the government.

The Young Leaders Association of Nigeria, Abia State Chapter therefore condemns this undue maltreatment of Abians by the government. We demand that the governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s government should be humane and reinstate Mrs. Maryleen Ezichi. She should be promoted and not demoted.

Nairaland / General / Unmask Treasury Looters ,you Know Them ,kalu Tells Us, Uk, Germany by muchechekay: 8:23am On Apr 03, 2017
The former governor of Abia State, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu has urged the United States , United Kingdom and German governments to expose the real treasury looters in Nigeria whom he said are known by the super powers.
He has also called on federal government to institute a process where famous auditing firms will audit all public office holders to ascertain their source of wealth.

The Forbes billionaire made the remarks yesterday in United States while delivering a speech on Democratic process in African Countries in the War College, Washington DC.

Kalu whose speech cut across many issues affecting Nigeria lamented many abnormalities in Nigeria.
According to him, "US,UK,Germany know those who have stacked millions of dollars, transferred directly from Nigeria to western countries without working for it."

The former governor said the looters acquired the wealth with no trace of evidence of business transactions , services or contracts.
He also said Nigeria need three basic things he named as Justice, obeisance to the rule of law, and accountability to move forward.
The former presidential candidate described Nigeria as an interesting country buried in tribalism and religion ,adding that in Nigeria, people do not see good in those who wish the country well.

According to him," People see no good in other people's job. The leaders and the governed have become so greedy that they forget the ethics of a nation. A nation is supposed to be a committed area that must have the interest of the citizens as priority. It is only in Nigeria, that a form is clearly specified to identify tribe, state, local government and religion. That means that the government of Nigeria since 1960 have been in support of tribalism. There is no country in Nigeria that wants to move forward and still have such specifications in a form. Corruption is the greatest problem in Nigeria. Those past leaders who claimed to be fighting corruption were only accumulating wealth. Most of them came to be leaders of our community with only twenty thousand naira and below, and they make no pretense in showing their wealth and affluence in their different communities.

"I was governor for eight years. And in that eight years, I never knew somebody can take public fund as his own. I never knew somebody aside security vote can take away people's money. People who had nothing came into office and turned to multi billionaires and nobody asks questions about how the money was made. I call on the government to restore a process whereby the KPMG, PWC, Deloitte and others be given opportunity to audit all our past leaders. You can not just make someone a Governor today and next, he buys a house in Victoria Island without stating how he got the money. Likewise a minister and he is already buying houses in Maitama or Asokoro. Sometimes, possibly someone you know before ." He said

Further speaking, Kalu recalled that "among the people who supported political movement in Nigeria in 1998, few of us are being tried. I had mentioned this in most forums I have been. The former president Obasanjo wrote to your President, George Bush Jnr, requesting that I should be arrested in United States . But your President after investigation said no. They equally wrote to the British prime minister, but he disagreed after investigation. But I am being tried in Nigeria for a law I do not know where it comes from. But I cannot dwell on this since it's in the Court of competent jurisdiction.

"Last time I spoke in Washington DC during a dinner, I repeated the same thing. Nigeria is a beautiful country where given the appropriate rule of law; if everyone is made to obey the rule of the land and respect the law ;If all our people are made to subject themselves to the laws of the land, Nigeria will be a beautiful place to live."
kalu's visit to War college ,Washington DC makes it the third time he will be visiting the college in three years.
The former governor while recounting his relationship with the Institute told the audience that the college during his eight years reign as Abia state governor had sent 50 man delegation to Abia state during their visit to Nigeria .He expressed his appreciation to the college which according to him, has always granted him permission to use the Institute for research whenever he is in Washington DC.
Speaking on the Nigerian economy and the orientation of the leaders and the led, the former governor said, "We need people who will see Nigeria as Nigeria. People who will not attach any religious or tribal sentiments about the country. We need people that will call a spade a spade. Last week, I urged President Muhammadu Buhari to tackle the economy the way he tackled Boko Haram. In all honesty and being factual, I still suggest that President Buhari as a matter of urgency should declare economic emergency . The economy is in very bad shape and the citizens are not happy,
"What we also need Nigerians to do is to come out and support civil democracy. Civil democracy is the only way interests of others can be protected. People blame politicians and everybody but themselves. They do not blame those who rig the elections to put illegitimate and unfit leaders in powerful. Leaders who do not think well about our society; leaders who think that the best way of living is to steal public funds. Those who think that the only thing they are elected for is to make themselves comfortable." He said
Kalu also appealled to the staff, the diplomats and senior military officers present in the occasion to urge the US government to assist Nigeria in fishing out those that have stolen Nigerian common wealth.

"I am sure they know them. The government of United States and Britain know those that have stolen our money. Why hid them? When ex President Obasanjo wrote to British government telling them that I stole money to buy a house in London. They investigated and found out that I bought it in 1991 and that is the only house I have in Britain. "He recalled.
While stating his optimism in coming out victorious in the corruption charges levelled against him by the Nigerian anti graft agency, the 2017 eight rated Forbes billionaire blamed Nigerians for what he referred to as being gullible and believing anything.
"I believe history will exonerate us. My greatest challenge is that our people are very naive, they are as naive as anything. They are very gullible, and consume every lie told to them by people in authority. I was governor for eight years, for five years of that governorship, I was committed in asking the Federal Government to do the right thing. I want to reassure you people that judiciary in Nigeria are not as bad as they are portrayed to be. When I was governor, we went to court against Federal government of Nigeria 15 times and we won 13 times. Those in charge of judiciary only need to fix it, in such a way that one could get justice.
In addition, he said " I believe the judiciary should be totally allowed to operate independently. I am more impressed with the court system here in United States and also in United Kingdom. I am also praying that the leaders of our judiciary will continue to improve our legal system. No matter the kind of system of government practiced in a country, the judiciary remains the bedrock of survival of that nation. Our judiciary are trying very well and I believe that if we get our judiciary right and well constituted, that will be the beginning and turn around of our democratic process."

Commenting on the rift between the presidency and the legislators, Kalu noted that president muhammadu Buhari should lead a peace talk process between the executive and legislature ,adding that frosty relationship should not be allowed to exist between the two bodies
"This morning , my duty is very simple , to give insight on ' Democratic Process of African Countries' and I have chosen to concentrate on Nigeria as a sample . Nigeria do not need much in democracy. The Parliament must be totally independent. The infighting in the Parliament in Nigeria should be seen that our party, the APC ,has to do more. I call on the President to institute a good rapport between the executive and legislators. The president should also lead this process. I also believe the strength of any nation depends on how strong their military are. The Nigerian military have done very well in all international engagements including Nigeria police. They need more equipment and support to do more and improve their intelligence. "

The one time student leader also decried the decaying value system in Nigeria. He recalled what student unionism used to be in their days, adding that money is now being prioritized to values .
In his words : "In our civil responsibilities which is very important for our Democratic growth, Nigerians are yet to get it right. Money is not everything and it is time we instill it in our consciousness. When I was in the university, we never requested money from any politician. It was unheard of asking any political party or politician for financial assistance. We strongly stood firm for Aluta. Our value system has deteriorated. When I was growing up, we use to respect elders, teachers, journalists and other professions. But it can not be said of same today. Nowadays, every secondary school leaver or university graduate want to go into politics because of the absolute loot that have lingered since return of democracy in 1999."

Continuing, he accused the western countries of doing less to help African countries, insisting that Nigeria needs support not aid ,"Being in war college today to interact with you is a privilege and I will not take it for granted. When you talk of aids given to African countries, you find out that we do not really need all of that. We only need equal opportunity. It is only in Africa that western leaders continue to support devaluation of our currency. Knowing full well we produce nothing , yet they keep supporting devaluation . This is not acceptable by me. The west should realize that the major role to be played is not to continue devaluing our currency when they are buying our raw materials for production. It is not right. All institutions of the West are not totally supporting Africa growth. We have to go another root to be able to grow economically. We have to embrace technology and agriculture. We need industrial revolution and we have people who can start it up today, we have them in Aba, Onitsha and other Eastern part of Nigeria. We have people who fought the civil war and are very creative. I like the decision Federal government had taken to legitimize illegal refineries. They should also encourage them by giving 2000 of them licence to operate. They should be given crude oil to refine at 35% discount and Nigeria will stop importing fuel." He said

Kalu also said Nigeria is a beautiful country which if collectively enhanced will have a bigger economy than United States. He added that Nigeria has everything including abundance human and capital resources.
He complained that Nigerian rule of law is zero and stated that What Nigeria need is good managers and good followers. "We need intelligent leaders who will be able to define the policy direction and military direction of the country. I believe President Muhammadu Buhari's ascendance is by Providence and he is there for a purpose. He might not be perfect but anybody can fall sick. There are insinuations that the president is unforgiven. I call on him to forgive his enemies and vice versa. Nigeria is our own and if there are people that have offended the President, the president should forgive them. Likewise those that feel the President has offended them. Let us live in peace with no tribalism and religious fanaticism. Let us forget sentiments and see ourselves as Nigerians. The youth restiveness is also something we must tackle very quickly.
While lamenting lack of policy sustainability by succesive governments, Kalu recounted the efforts he put in place as governor to give his state an outstanding governance but was challenged by the then federal government. This is even as he accused the then President Olusegun Obasanjo led federal government of putting policies to deny him fund.
He said, "'Lack ot consistent government policies and sustainability is what is killing us and our businesses today . Once one government issues a policy and leaves, the succeeding government overrides that policy with no good reason. Some people might wonder why Lagos state is doing great amidst challenges. It's because the successors consistently followed the policies not minding whether the relationship is frosty or not. In our own Abia, it wasn't same, my successor abandoned the policies we worked hard to put in place for Abians, and it became a disaster and people like us are being blamed.

"Some people referring to me as an entrepreneur complain that I didn't build heaven and earth in Abia. But you see ,it was strange that the first money I received as a Governor in may 1999 was 210 million naira. The first time I saw one billion naira was in the month of November 2004, the records are there. For a state like Abia with a lot of payroll, dilapidated systems and infrastructure. I cried for the state. My good friend, the late Managing director of Guarantee Trust Bank, Tayo Ademoroku. May his soul rest in peace knows how we worked hard to give my people the best . I wouldn't say much because if he was alive, I would have said what he told me. Governance is not easy. I prepared a proposal with him to start middle class hotels, industries, investment on airports, Airlines and hotels for Abia State government. The then Federal government turned us down on the basis we cannot do it. Few months later, the money we could have used for development was deducted as part ot the money borrowed from the civilian government of late Dr Sam Mbakwe."
Continuing, he said ," Many of the moribund structures were located in Abia and our share of the debt was 650 million US dollars while that of Imo State was 450 million US dollars. The federal government started deducting it again. Just to make sure they punished me as an individual. They started deducting it from day one. That was not the policy before . The policy was that they will be deducting it from the federation account. A new policy came and overruled the previous one." He explained

Concluding his speech, Kalu thanked the audience , and also chronicled what Nigerians are asking from her leaders. He queried why all African countries are backward expect South Africa , and requested the US to give Nigeria assistance in the military and economy.
He stated thus : "Nigerians are not asking too much. They are only asking for food on their table, good health care, decent school for their school, employment. All these things are what we can do. The country is capable of doing it. I urge President Buhari to replan the system and commit his team to doing an Economic turn around . Nigeria has no business in being poor. Nigeria has no business in poor management of our economy. Almost all the countries in Africa except South Africa are in bad shape. Is it a curse? But I am optimistic we will lift it up. I call on all good loving Nigerians to help support the government. The West should also help us in fighting corruption. They know who the corrupt leaders are. I am saying it here in War college. You people have a lot of intelligence. All the transactions they do are in dollars. They should call a spade a spade. All transfers are done in dollars and you can help us.

" Ladies and gentlemen , I am very optimistic that Nigeria will rise to its expected state if nepotism, tribalism, religious fanaticism and all those things that draws us backward are put on hold . In this 21st century, we can't also waste our resources. We must go back to start our technological development from agriculture. We must encourage both small scale and middle class farming.Lastly , I thank the war college community for this rare opportunity given to me. I chose to narrow my African discussion to Nigeria unlike last year. I thank the former Ambassadors, senior military officers, Navy officers, supporting staff of the college. I am trusting you help us pass policy papers to your President for support militarily and economically. We don't need aid, all we need is support. Thank you very much and may God bless you." He stated.

Politics / Gov. Ikpeazu Sneaks In 12.6 Billion Supplementary Budget, Causes Rift In ABHA by muchechekay: 10:27am On Mar 31, 2017
Abia Govt: Ikpeazu Sneaks in 12.6 Billion Supplementary Budget, Causes Rift in the State Assembly, Hon Chinedu Orji Ikuku Vindicated.

ONE of the aides of Abia State governor who did not want his name to be mentioned because he was not authorized to speak on this matter exposed that the major cause of the rift that happened on Wednesday in Abia State House of Assembly was that the governor sneaked in a 12.6Billion 2016 supplementary budget through the clerk of the House of Assembly, sidelining the Speaker.

The Aide as well disclosed that the House sees it wrong and a height of disrespect from the governor to have smuggle this whooping sum of 12.6billion supplementary budget through the back door using the Clerk of the House instead of the Speaker. Finding out the sinistrous moves by the governor, the speaker became unhappy and questioned the governor for explanation.

At first the governor threatened the speaker with impeachment which led the speaker to swiftly turn to his people for the solidarity protest in the House of Assembly. The squabbles which lasted for 3 hours was later resolved when the governor later pleaded with the Speaker and members of the House and promised to settle each member of the house with whooping sum of money upon the approval of the secret supplementary budget that has an expenditure of N1.6b tagged for visitors from Abuja. How a state government that is owing salaries will run such expenditure is left for your imagination.

The reason for the secret supplementary budget of 12.6Billion is not far fetched from speculations considering the Governor needs to throw in everything for his upcoming case at the Supreme Court. There's this believe therefore, in some circles that the N12.6b supplementary budget is purposely meant to bribe the Supreme Court judges at Abuja.

He also refuted the claims that Hon Engr. Chinedu Orji Ikuku, the Abia House Majority leader was behind the impeachment saga. He disclosed that Ikuku is a victim of circumstance, saying that Ikuku is unlucky that whenever anything goes wrong in the House, people mention his name whether he knows about it or not.

He explained that the absence of Ikuku during the solidarity visit of Isiala South protesters shouldn't be seen as being behind the commotion in the House.

The aide concluded by disclosing the governor has already settled with the house on terms and condition of the supplementary budget but the house asks for few days to decide whether to pass the secret supplementary budget or not because of the fear that it would dent the image of the House should a new government emerge from the upcoming Supreme Judgement on May 12, 2017.
