Travel / Re: My Shocking Experiences In Public Buses----ladies Be Very Vigilant! by muffins99(f): 2:43pm On Sep 02, 2015 |
It's a shame that these things are happening now but I've had 2 similar experiences... the guys were masturbating right next to me. On both occassions, I was sitting next to the window and staring outside and not paying much attention to what was going on inside the bus. I then gradually became aware that the guys were sitting closer and closer and then their beathing became heavier and faster. The first time it happened, i turned out of curiousity and couldn't believe what i saw! I immediately shouted to the driver to stop cos i wanted to get off. The second time, i turned in disbelief that it could be the same thing happening and sure enough, he had his thingy out right there. This time, I pushed against him so that he bumped into the person on the other side. He immediately told the driver that he wanted to get off. What i wonder till this day is that nobody noticed, or where they also keeping quiet in order not to cause embarrasment? Anyway, now when i get on the bus and a guy comes to sit next to me, my elbow is usually there waiting. He will never be comfortable until one of us gets off! 3 Likes |

koboko69: Please don't mistake my comment for sentimentality. Read it again and you should see that it is simply a statement of facts as i saw them. The only opinion i offered was that i thought that he might not have been invited but asked to attend to give a speech. I am not an advocate for anyone... I am a Christian and owe allegiance only to God and no one else. |

ogaprime: I agree....I watched the programme and no where did i hear that the church invited him (don't we all know how nija pastors like to introduce guests!); i believe he asked to speak there same as previous political candidates/ aspirants have gone there to campaign. And the pastor did not pray for him to win the election- what he prayed for, if i remember correctly, was for God to give him wisdom to rule aright and for God to help him bear his burden and make the country great. The bible says pray for those in authority and that is what was done... one of the pastors later remarked on the fact that it was election season so i'm sure any right thinking person will understand that this was just a campaign strategy for Cameron, particularly with ethnic minorities. 1 Like |
Travel / Re: He Was Deported On Arriving UK. by muffins99(f): 1:34pm On Mar 24, 2015 |
I find it difficult to believe this story. What important discussion does he need to travel to the UK to have? Why cant he discuss over the phone or emails? Anyway, so he travelled to the UK, and told UKBA that he's meeting a friend but instead of ringing said friend they decided to call someone else altogether and then decided to deport him without speaking to his friend? really There's more to this than has been said here and i can bet that he's lying about what happened. If he could lie to UKBA, what is to say he's not lying about the reason for his deportation? I saw a documentaty about australia's border control once and a 'nigerian' lawyer who got caught out. He said that he was attending a conference, had a hotel booking, etc. when they checked out all the addresses, no one had heard of him! So of course, he was deported. People shoud learn to tell the truth.. Lies will always cost more in the end 2 Likes |
Family / Re: Having A Joint Account With Your Spouse, Good Or Bad? by muffins99(f): 1:55pm On Sep 11, 2014 |
A joint account is a good idea as it promotes responsibillity and accountability on both sides. There wont be any of the 'but i pay the school fees and rent and you only buy food' wahala. It is important though, to agree what percentage of your incomes will be paid into the joint account ( I don't recommend more than 80% unless you both earn very little). You should also decide whether or not you will take out an overdraft and what expenses will be funded from the account. However, a joint account is a bad idea if your partner cannnot be trusted with money either because they've bad spending habits, don't know how to manage money or they're planning to leave you and take all the money with them. Never put all your eggs in one basket or else..... |

America, home of the brave! Maybe this is the reason why God didn't answer his prayers until recently- who knows, he may have died/ been injured in the 9/11 disaster or died when Hurricane Katrina or Hurricane Sandy swept across the states. At the time, he would probably have been 'burning candles', 'bathing with special soap', 'binding and loosing', 'commanding all his enemies to fall down and die' and 'praying the old woman from the village to become paralised! while God was shaking his head and saying 'Ol Boy, you no fit live for yankee o, better stay in Nija, Land of kunun and sobo! |

Travel / Re: Common Misconception Of America By Nigerians by muffins99(f): 1:50pm On Dec 04, 2012 |
There is no absolute right or wrong to this argument. America will suit some people and Nigeria will suit others. The fact remains that there are Nigerians who are doing well in America while other Nigerians suffer and likewise some home-based Nigerians are rolling in money and enjoy a reasonably good quality of life while others suffer. People know this but still insist on arguing about it just so that they can feel better about themselves and their choices. PS: Only an American Indian has the right to call himself/ herself American. Everyone else migrated there at one point or the other so if a Nigerian wants to settle there, good for them... I say go for it, claim the land, overrun it, overthrow all powers that be and take the place for Money and Country (cannot say God and country). 3 Likes |

Religion / Re: Church Dilemma - Serious Replies Pls by muffins99(f): 1:00pm On Oct 05, 2012 |
Sis, when the time comes for you to stand before God, He may not ask for the name and denomination of church that you attended. Your spiritual life is at stake here and you have to secure that before anything else. This is what I think: - go to a church that meets your spiritual needs. If this is MFM then that is where you should go. If it is your husband's church and the only barrier is language, then learn the language. Do not exclude your children as it is important that they can grow spiritually as well. Trust me that Nlanders will turn round and blame you when your children turn away from God because they cannot ''see or hear Him'' at the church you force them to attend. - it is important that you support your husband. If you continue at MFM, then be thankful that the service times allows you to attend both churches- though it will be hard because you will practically have to spend all day at church on Sundays if you have to attend both. Learn your husbands language and encourage your children to learn as well, not just because of church. - finally it is important that you talk to your husband and agree a course of action so that there won't be resentment between you two. Also pray to God for guidance- let Him have the final say! |
TV/Movies / Re: Building An Animation Version Of Any Nollywood Movie.. by muffins99(f): 12:54pm On Sep 25, 2012 |
I think that you have a very good idea and I hope that you are able to achieve it. However, my opinion is that you start from small scale productions, maybe 10 to 15 minutes of animation which you can record and send out to the major producers who take their work seriously. You can also easily post on youtube or other popular media which are visited regularly by Nigerians. This will help you generate interest and showcase what you can do (like a taster). I read somewhere that Pixar started with small productions and then went mega when they had enough interest (including investment) for their films. Of course this will cost you money but look at it as investment - you may be able to cut costs if you get your friends and family to help out e.g. with the voice overs. Another idea is to approach banks or other big companies to produce animated adverts for them (see the link below) You haven't mentioned what type of animation you can do, but whatever it is, find out if Nigerians are receptive to that kind of animation. There is no point producing stop motion animation like wallace and gromit if Nigerians prefer 3D or motion capture. Finally, as with everything in life, prepare a plan of what you want to do and decide how and when you are going to achieve it. Prepare a script/ storyboard or if you're using existing material, find out about copyright and request for permission. Draw up a list of what you will need: story board/ characterization, animation technic, computers and software, casts and crew of the characters (e.g directors and voice artists), finance, music, etc. Also decide on marketing and distribution from the outset as these might be the difference between success and failure. Good luck https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J808sJParSQ 1 Like |

Adeone: I Just watched the video and I still can't pick what is that offensive about Mohammed to warrant such wanton destruction of innocent lives.some Muslims just didn't get it' Thank you so much for this. You've saved me the hassle of searching for it. It's just as I predicted (on page 2 of this post), people are now curious and will watch the film (or trailer in this case) just to see what the fuss is all about. What these guys have done is more or less an advert for the movie! PS: My understanding is that the prophets image should not be replicated/ depicted/ represented. You are only allowed to write or talk about him - and only in certain 'acceptable' ways. |
Foreign Affairs / Re: US Ambassador Killed In Libya Consulate Attack by muffins99(f): 2:46pm On Sep 12, 2012 |
pretty_boi: You are comparing the actions of politicians against the actions of a group of 'devoted worshipers' but I think its important not to mistake the actions of people who claim to be Christians/ muslims when it suits them (filling forms, winning elections, etc) with the peolple who ARE Christians/ Muslims. Remember that pastor who wanted to burn copies of the quran last year, did Christians approve of this? Even polititians got involved to mediate in the matter. Granted that the US, UK etc cooked up lies but it was obviously for political reasons and not because someone 'insulted' God /Jesus or anyother religious reasons. Polititians will always look for an excuse to justify their actions and religion works for them because people take it seriously. You will note that human rights issues are gradually replacing religiion as the reason for invading countries- this is being tried in Syria right now. |

mosh_musth: From your comments, I'm inclined to think that you are one of the misguided fanatics. In one comment, you talk about tolerance but in your next post you insult me because your prejudice led you to construe something totally different from what I said- if that is not two-faced deceit and delusion, I don't kwow what is. I bet if you had a gun right now and i was in front of you, you'd gladly shoot me even though its clear that you misunderstood me. Shoot first and ask questions later! That is your motto!. So I referred to 'some' misguided fanatics not understanding the consequence of their actions, how does that approve or disapprove of the quran? I never said that they should not protest but they should do so the right way. By raiding the US embassy, your guys have effectively advertised the movie- just stating the fact- so mister, next time think before you write. nagoma: I'm against killings too and nowhere in my comment did I say otherwise. What i meant is that I'm now going to watch the film out of curiosity and I won't be the only one who does so. By their actions, these 'muslims' have advertised the film and the filmakers won't need to spend as much on advertisment. |

Zeddicus: The annoying thing is, I know some really cool Muslims but it still doesn't overshadow the fact that the religion is one that is thoroughly entrenched in violence. Quite right... unfortunately some misguided fanatics do not understand the implications of their actions. I'm sure that this incidence will stir curiosity in a lot of people such that they'll want to see the film. I personally would not have paid any heed to it if not for this news. 1 Like |

Sam Milla: I am advicing the Lagos state government to start building more prisons or rather convert MAULAG to a prison. You're quite right. If indeed he wants Lagos to look like Dubai, Tokyo, LA, etc, I don't know much about the these places but I doubt that they throw people in jail for not 'beautifing' their premises. Besides what does he mean by 'beautify'. Is it a paint job and a few potted plants (especially in poor areas where houses are crammed together with little or no space to plant anything) or does it mean paint job + new roof + proper waste disposal units + garden. The rich people in Ikeja, leki, etc may already know what is required but the poor people in say, mushin will need help. Maybe he could bring together a small group of landscapters and gardeners (thereby creating employment) and ask people to consult with them for a small fee(say N100); and maybe offer discounted/ free paint to people earing below a certain amount. He also needs to review the fines. Alternatively, he could enforce compulsory purchase of some neighbourhood, get in developers to rebuild and then sell/let to the public- maybe someone on NL can confirm if they think this will work. 1 Like |

jackbauersballs: I just tire for these people objecting to learning chinese....while posting in English... ayox2003: We all speak and write English because it is the official language in Nigeria- supposedly because it 'unifies' the country and makes inter-tribal interraction easier. If English was only adopted just for bilateral relations with the west, should we then change the official language to Mandarin if our commercial relations with China overtakes those with the west?. PS: I'm Yoruba and I speak and write very good yoruba. I have a few yoruba literature and loads of traditional yoruba music in my library...I can count in yoruba too and I don't have any English names. |

Nowhere was it stated that the convert was previously muslim and also, no where did the poster ask for your opinion on islam. mukina2: I'm not against the introduction of other languages to the school curriculum but I'm concerned about how its done. Teaching jobs are now to be given to Mandarin teachers....I wonder how many of these will be Nigerian since the institue of Chinese culture is supplying the teachers. Forgive me for being sceptical, but it is unlikely that they will be treated the same way as Nigerian teachers.. unpaid salary, poor work conditions, etc. Why are we creating jobs for foreigners before doing the same for our own people? You say its to promote foreign investment but do the masses benefit from it, no, only the elite business men and fat politicians. There's also the flimsy excuse that some people may want to study in or trade with China in the future. Why then must everyone learn the language? We don't learn German or hindi/Urdu in Nigerian Primary and Secondary schools, yet Nigerians study in and trade with Germany and India. Mandarin became the worlds most spoken language before the Chinese economy really took off- mainly because of population size- and if Nigeria, the most populous nation in Africa and 7th most populous nation in the world, can only agree on a single ethnic language (I hope this does not start a debate) and ensure that that language is used in all spheres of Nigeian society-including Business, then I bet you that other countries will learn the language in order to facilitate trade with Nigeria. History of Mandarin Due to its geographic size, China has always been a land of many languages and dialects...It was not until 1909 that Mandarin became the national language (guó yǔ) of China. it became the most spoken language when the population of China became 1.3 billion. warning to all the ladies... as nice as it is that a guy calls you by pet names, make sure he doesn't do it all the time, particularly in the bedroom (or where-ever it is that you get your grove on). Why? because a pet name can cover the fact that he's forgot who he's with at that moment and so he cant accidentally call you by his 'other' woman's name i.e. he can't accidentally call you tina when your name is nkechi, shade or whatever!!! 1 Like |
