if OBJ is one of the few good things that has come out of nigeria, then we might as well just give the other nigerians rat poison so that the 'good' things can flourish.

Crude Oil:

Obasanjo does not deserve this. he tried his best for the country. He ruled the country for 11 years.

so cause of that we should give him an award or we should make him the next best thing that happened to nigeria after the invention of ghana bread?

There's absolutely no harm in re-branding the nation's image if it will be effective on the citizenry.Someone correct me if I'm wrong but we used to or still have the National Orientation Campaign Programme, if so why not take a cue from the results of this programme and further pursue the process of re-branding in-cooperating both or all programmes available to ensure the success. In spite of all the previous efforts of the government are we saying WE CANNOT SIMPLY REPAIR THE SALVAGED HEART OF NIGERIA? How obvious. As much as this measure is vital to the growth of the country it's a waste of time debating what should be when provisions was never made for such schemes.Did Mr president not think of this drawing up the 7-point agenda? They can't just kick start an unplanned programme and expect instant results? Why not come up with blueprints and proper plans to be executed as time passes.

@ KOBOJUNKIE,
Does  it mean to you that branding or rebranding is out of place? Commonsense reveals that a good name is better than silver and gold.

On a pragmatic note, I want believe that you understand the root of the nigerian problems. Corruption is not our problem, epileptic power supply isnt our problem, Bad roads are not our problem, Leadership is not our problem. You are surprised? OUR PROBLEM IS OUR THOUGHT-PROCESS, i.e Our Mindframe. That alone is our albatross. Correct the mindset of majority of Nigerians and Nigeria will become a Force to reckon with in the comity of Nations.
You asked whether it was the fault of the graduate to be jobless. I am surprised that you still subscribe to the worn out dogma of total dependence on the FG to provide jobs. I do not need to quote anything for you to know that is developed countries (which you claim to stay), the private sector provides most of the jobs.

WHAT EXACTLY ARE THEY TRYING TO REBRAND! we are all here going back and forth about this rebranding swan song based on little or no concrete information. if you want to rebrand, you at least try to fix what it is you intend to rebrand first. columbia is trying to rebrand itself as well, they have a bad wrap as per their drug manufacturing/trafficing history/FARC et all, kidnapping etc etc, they need tourists to once again visit their country and spend their $$$$. Guess what they have tried to do first and foremost, they have been going head on at drug lords, they have tried to better the relationship they have with the different rebel groups. all this done before they started planting their rebrandiong seeds all over.

let's channel our agitations to the right quarters.

we would actually channel our agitations to the right quarters if we had access to those quarters. with the swan song being sang for rebranding nigeria, nigerians were asked to present slogans and logos out of which some might be selected and used during this rebranding process.

can any of you swan song backers tell me where these ideas would be submitted to? please dont tell me the ministry of information website because i've been there and done that, (by the way the website is as bland as watered down cambells chicken noodle soup.) theres no information on the site giving details into the project, heck they still have the heart of africa bullmanure they claim failed and are trying to replace sitting on there. the link leads to nowhere

Theft mars Nigerian 're-branding'

The handset was swiped as Isawa Elaigwu entered the conference centre
Thieves stole a mobile phone belonging to a member of a new team campaigning to improve Nigeria's image as a country riddled by crime and chaos.

Isawa Elaigwu told the launch of the "rebrand Nigeria" campaign he noticed the phone was gone minutes before he was due to address the event.

"As I was entering the gates of the conference centre I noticed I had been pick-pocketed," he said.

"This is just the sort of thing we need to fight against".

Nigeria is often seen abroad as a violent and chaotic place, full of people who use e-mail scams to cheat money out of unwitting victims.

'Most dangerous'

Its commercial capital Lagos recently topped a poll of the world's most dangerous places to work.

The Information Ministry hopes to change this bad reputation with a public relations campaign.

Nigeria cannot wait until its solved all its problems before addressing its image

Dora Akunyili
Information Minister
On Tuesday the ministry unveiled a new slogan "Nigeria: Good people, great country", and a logo.

Information Minister Dora Akunyili, who made her name as a fierce campaigner against fake drugs, said the country's reputation was unfair.

"We must shed this toga that says we are untrustworthy, unreliable and ungovernable," she said.

She admitted that the country did have real problems with poverty, corruption and infrastructure, but that wouldn't stop them trying.

"Some people say: 'Why rebrand now?' Nigeria cannot wait until its solved all its problems before addressing its image."

Better life

A better image would improve tourism and encourage businesses to invest in Nigeria, she said.

As Nigerian's own perception of themselves improved they would be less inclined to commit crime, she said.

The previous administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo had a similar campaign to improve Nigeria's image called "Heart of Africa".

Local media reported that the government spent $5.6million (£4million) on it in one year.

It was scrapped by Mrs Akunyili last year.

The minister last week promised the National Assembly the "good people great country" campaign will cost a lot less, and spending will be transparent.

what if she doesnt have a clue about what her job description entails?
what if she is out of her comfort zone and out of her depth?
what if her hands are tied and she really cant do what she has intended?
what if she is simply a pawn in the whole game?
what if her nafdac runs were simply a fluke?
what if she is too out of touch with nigeria and its numerous yams and issues?
what if she is bored and figures her rebranding swan song would make it seem like she is working and thus wont get booted at the next reshuffle?
