Education / The First Thing That Was Ever Sold Through The Internet Is Marijuana. by Muurian: 6:36am On Oct 10, 2020

The internet has really grown so big now, it's hard to imagine there were times when it didn't even exist.

Today, buyers and sellers can stay in their homes and easily conduct a transaction over the internet, and their order will be processed instantly and delivered within minutes depending on location.

But, during the early days, when the internet was first introduced to the world, it turned out that Stanford students were in fact up to something, a transaction that will be later verified as the first ever transaction done accross the internet.

According to researchers, marijuana is in fact the very first thing to be sold over the internet. This stems majorly from an excerpt in the book "What the Dormouse Said: How the Sixties Counterculture Shaped the Personal Computer Industry".

Here is the Excerpt:

"In 1971 or 1972, Stanford students using Arpanet accounts at Stanford University's Artificial Intelligence Laboratory engaged in a commercial transaction with their counterparts at Massachussetts Institute of Technology. Before Amazon, before eBay, the seminal act of e-commerce was a drug deal. The students used the network to quietly arrange the sale of an undetermined amount of marijuana."

Though the whole deal was done using the system, it's obvious the actual giving of money occured face to face.

However, according to an issue from Smithsonian Magazine, the first time someone actually entered their bank cards into a computer system to conduct an e-commerce was in 1994. According to the magazine, the first credit card transaction that took place over the internet occured when someone bought a "Sting CD" named "Ten Summoner’s Tales" by entering his card details online.

The corona virus has really messed up things for a lot of entertainment houses, including Hollywood entertainment giant, Warner Bros.

The company notably released its highly anticipated science fiction movie "Tenet". Contrary to most people's expectations, the Corona virus practically ensured that the movie flopped at the box office because few cinema's are opening as of few persons coming there due to the pandemic.

The movie was predicted to fetch about $850m in box office revenues, but ended up garnering (though not the fault of the movie) what was entirely below expectations. The outcome literally sent Hollywood on panic button, and a lot of movies scheduled to release this year has been moved to next year, which also has made it certain that the ones scheduled for next will now probably find new dates. Of course at the moment still, everything depends on the cure or vaccine for the corona virus being available.

Recall that the Covid-19 pandemic had forced Disney to release their big budget movie "Mulan" to their 'Disney+' channel rather than facing the uncertainty of the cinema which is still dependent on the corona virus pandemic. Same pandemic also made the Tom Hanks led thriller "Greyhound" to find a streaming solution too as opposed to cinema release due to the pandemic.

Here are the new release dates for some Hollywood Blockbuster movies that were previously scheduled to debut in cinemas this year.

•James Bond

The popular spy thriller titled "No Time To Die" was previously meant to be released this year, but has been forced to opt for a release next year by the pandemic. Currently, the movie will now be releasing next year by 2nd April, 2020.

•The Matrix 4.

The Keanu Reeves led popular pop culture movie, Matrix earlier rapped up production and was scheduled to release this year in May. However, it was moved to April 2022 by Warner Bros.

Black Widow:

Was previously scheduled by Marvel to release in May this year. It was later moved to November. Currently, the movie will now be releasing 7 May 2021.

Dune.

The star studded science fiction blockbuster movie was earlier scheduled to be released December this year. However, it has now been shifted to October 2021.

Eternals -

The Marvel Universe had intended to release The Eternals (starring Angelina Jolie) was supposed to be released this year in November. However, Disney has now moved that date to 5 November 2021.

Top Gun: Maverick -

This is the sequel to the 1986 blockbuster movie, Top Gun. The Tom Cruise led sequel was previously scheduled for a December release (from June) this year. However, the movie will now be released in on 2 July 2021.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife -

The paranormal phenomena movie was supposed to be released in cinemas this year in July, but has been shifted to 5 March 2021.

I hate schooling adults but sometimes we simply cannot avoid it.

After all counseling the doubtful and instructing the ignorant is a spiritual work of mercy after all.

So, you want to know how they arrived at the most likely/probable ages of these cities... you see, they didn't throw up figures for the fun of it- habour no doubts about that.

The whole thing took a lot of research and meticulousness. First, when you want to determine how old are particular city is, you have to go to extent of examining ancient texts(that is writings by men who lived thousands of years) and there you will sometimes find where such cities were mentioned then with a little maths and calculations here and there, you will be able to arrive at an estimate as to how old that particular city is.

Another method is oral traditions. That is, history passed from generation to generation by word of mouth. That is history which is largely unwritten.

Then there is a third method, which is far more reliable to varying degrees than the other two which I have mentioned- and that, is a firm technology called "(radio)Carbon dating"(in layman's terminology).

How does radiocarbon dating work. It is simple. Sometimes, you see all these archaeologists excavating and digging all over the place and sometimes you might be forced to assume that they are "mad". But in reality, they are not. They are as a matter of fact, looking for clues. These clues might come in the former of ancient artefacts such as cups, wine glasses, coins, clothes and things like that. Once they dig up these things, they pass them through carbon dating tests in order to find out how old these things are. They answer that they get from conducting such tests also go a long way in determine how long a particular city has been inhabited.

I just had to explain it to you in the simplest way possible and I hope it helps.

Besides, there are other scientific methods asides radiocarbon dating that can also be deployed in determining these things.

Perfect!

Why do I feel like some cities were left out

Who else thinks so too?

Besides, I always knew Damascus, Aleppo, Byblos and Sidon would always make the list.

Where is Tyre though? Tyre is probably just as old as Sidon. They were often known as twin cities of the Phoenicians back then.

I strongly think that they should rejig this list and give Tyre a mention.
The era should determine it. Maybe you can supply us the info.

Let's go!

10) Varanasi, India – 5,000 years old.

Known as the birthplace of Hinduism, Varanasi is known as the oldest city in India and has its earliest human inhabitants as far back as 11th BCE.

The city is located near the Granges River in the Northern Indian region of Uttar Pradesh, which till today continues to attract tourists and worshipper's from all over the world.

The Golden Temple of Shiva is also located in this city!

9) Plovdiv, Bulgaria – 6,000 years old.

The city of Plovdiv is historically located in the ancient Thrace region. The city is known as the cultural centre of Bulgaria and Historians cite that evidence exists that inhabitation of the region goes way back to 6th BCE, especially in the Nebet Tepe Hill.

The city is also the second largest city in Bulgaria.

cool Sidon, Lebanon – 6,000 years old.

Known locally as Saida, Sidon is located on the Mediterranean sea and has been in existence for at least 6000yrs according to Historians.

The ancient city was bride to constant conquering (in no order) by the Babylonians, Assyrians, Greeks, Egyptians, Persians, and Romans alike. Must have really been an important city to warrant such constant occupation.

There were also biblical reference to this city, with Jesus, Paul and Herod the Great all said to have visited the place at one point in time.

7) Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan – 6,000 years old.

Erbil is the capital city of the Kurdistan region, Iraq. According to Historians and Wikipedia, it was known as Arbella and is currently the most populated city in the region.

From history, Arbella has been a place of continuous occupation by
Greeks, Persians, Mongols, Romans, and the Ottoman Turks.
The city is also host to the Erbil Citadel and is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

6) Susa, Iran – 6,300 years old

Susa was one of the most paramount cities in Ancient Near East ( what many will say is the ancestors to the current Middle East), and located near the Tigris River.

During its peak, Susa served as the capital of Achaemenid Empire as well as that of Elam. Again, during the Parthian rule, the ancient city of Susa also remained an important and strategic place.

It is believed that the city was probably rebuilt soon after its destruction by the Assyrian Empire.

5) Athens, Greece – 7,000 years old.

Athens is one of those ancient cities that have been featured heavily in Hollywood movies, especially when Greek mythological entities are being utilised.

According to Historians, the earliest known inhabitation of can be traced back to the 7th - 11th BC.
Athens is also historically known to produce many widely known philosophical truths and inquisitions and has helped define democracy which has had numerous importance on modern westernisation. Popular philosophers like Plato, Aristotle and Socrates are examples of the gift Athens gave Europe and the world.

Athens is currently still bubbling as metropolitan city in current day Greece.

4) Argos, Greece – 7,000 years old

Argos is located in Argolis, and under the administrative region of
Peloponnese, Greece. It is the largest city in Argolis and one of the oldest cities still in existence today after a continuos inhabitation that has spanned centuries.

Argos is notably known for its Swiss-like neutral attitude during the Greco-Persian Wars. Argos is currently being occupied by an estimated 22,000 people, and has a lot of historical heritage sites and monuments.

3) Byblos, Lebanon – 7,000 years old.

Historians clock the earliest human inhabitation of Byblos between 7,000 - 8,000yrs.

The ancient city can be found 42km north of Beirut.
It is also generally believed to be the oldest and largest ancient city in Lebanon at the time, and have witnessed continuous and extended human occupation for centuries. This was mostly due to the amount of human waste archeologists have uncovered in the city.

Byblos is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

2) Aleppo, Syria – 8,000 years old.

Allepo is located along the Mediterranean Sea, giving it easy access to the oceans and a viable hub for trades. This is what made Allepo a thriving commercial area in ancient times.

According to historians and archeologists, Allepo has been continuously occupied since 8,000yrs ago.

At the moment, the clashes between the officially recognised Syrian government and rebel forces have forced most of the inhabitants of Allepo flee the region.

1) Damascus, Syria – 11,000 years old

Most people who are familiar with biblical stories must have heard about this ancient city. Even one of Christianity's greatest apostle to the gentiles, Paul, was converted on his way to Damascus.

Damascus is the capital city in present day Syria and the oldest city in the world. According to research and studies, the earliest known habitation of the ancient city of Damascus was probably in the second millennium BC.

Damascus is part of the Official UNESCO World Heritage Site and is mostly referred to by many as the capital city and cultural centre of the whole Arab world. Currently, Damascus is a metropolitan city in the partly troubled country, Syria. In 2008, it was named "Arab Capital of Culture".

NB: Some of the years in this article (especially Damascus) are historically estimated years from findings. However, most are backed by records and archeologically backed factual discoveries. Therefore, there may be other cities that may have existed before.

Romance / 10 Brutal But Harsh Truths About Relationships And Dating. by Muurian: 3:50pm On Sep 25, 2020

Here is a list of some of the brutal truths about relationships which noone may probably tell you.

1) One will always take, and one will always give. During the goings on in the relationship, the role may tilt a bit and sometimes shift expectedly, but sooner or later, it will revert back. The one who takes will continue to take while the one who gives will continue to give, except resentment sets in (which is usually the case for unreciprocated acts of kindness).

2) It is easy to know how much respect you have in someone’s life if you are in a relationship with them. If they have no respect for you, they will pay less regard to your feelings and always do what they like anyway.

3) Most problems in blossoming relationships tend to start once expectations begin to take root, mostly because of the close companionship that is building. One thing to always bear in mind about expectations is that it can be really quite disappointing. Best to keep it in check.

4) Don’t try to force people to talk if they don’t want to, especially if you observe they don’t appear to be in the mood. People have their other lives outside of you, you know. The persons mood may have nothing at all to do with you, so give them a space. They will talk about it with you when they think it’s the best time, not because you are bothering them. Any other thing aside from this is just you creating a nuisance and being annoying.

5) If there is one thing that holds true with love, it is the fact that it is hard to find someone who will love you unequivocally and unconditionally apart from your parents and family. It may not be what you want to hear, but that’s the truth. Every other friend in your life is there because there’s a part of you which you like sharing with them.

Hard to fall in love with someone who you don’t see yourself sharing a part of you with right? So, sometimes, it’s not really that they don’t want to reciprocate the love, it’s just that there is no connection yet. But, should that connection get aligned correctly, well, you will know the rest of the love story at the altar!

6) People who are committed to a relationship with you will always try to find a way to make things work. Even when things go wrong, it won’t be because you guys didn’t try to make the relationship work. After all, they’re in it for the long haul, and don’t like jumping from relationships.

7) There is always a chance that the other person will not appreciate all the sacrifices you make for them in a relationship, until you stop doing it and probably walk off their life forever.

8} If they prefer online discussions mostly as opposed to physical ones, there is a chance that that’s how it’s going to be in the long haul. So, if all efforts to constantly initiate physical meet ups are met with angelic reasons why they may not be chanced, they’re sending you a clear message. Best heed to it and know that they prefer you as their chat buddies (probably for the moment…who knows).

9) People change and adapt to situations all the time. Remember, you are just one of the many things in anyone’s life. So, bear it in mind that there are other things in people’s life which will always be private with them, and which may be influencing their life choices but has nothing to do with you. Out of sight for a week can drastically change someone in ways you never can tell.

So, do not for a second think that you truly know anyone.

10) People make a lot of promises, mostly with good intentions. However, always watch what they do Instead. As they say, talk is cheap. If someone continually says one thing and does another thing, best pay serious attention to the act and know that’s who they really are!

BONUS:

Do not assume anything in relationships. Ask for clarifications about anything bothering you or make clarifications about what you cannot tolerate if the case be. Ignoring this is going to create disregard of feelings and emotions in the near future!

It is everywhere. The wave of entrepreneurship has swept across the nation, as more and more youths continue to build businesses. This is evident, of course, in the influx of advertising on social media pages. Some of the businesses that are mostly advertised include graphic design, fashion design, production of skin and hair essentials.

These enterprises are so flexible that students have begun to venture into them, even while getting their degrees. With the money accrued from their businesses, many students are able to meet the demands of school life. This benefit is also enjoyed by fresh graduates, who'd rather run a business than settle for corporate jobs. And that's just one of many other fore deals of having a business. Nevertheless, your spirit of entrepreneurship might need a proper education to thrive.

Today, there are people who don't even study a course related to the business they run. And there are some who no longer see the relevance of the degree they've gotten. This has caused many youths to discard the importance of proper education, all because there's a chance to make money, just by running a business.

We live in a time that allows for easy conducting of business, because of social media. But, education would be the most valuable tool for every entrepreneur.

It is true that there are entrepreneurs who built successful businesses without having a formal education. However, it will be a wrong decision not to take the advantage, if and when we get the opportunity of proper education. It is not just about obtaining a degree, but also having good grades and even pursuing postgraduate studies.

Not everyone gets to study business administration or the equivalent. Regardless of the degree you choose to pursue, it is important to pursue it well. As more people continue to venture into the business world, you'd need to stand out in every good way possible.

Getting a good degree is a good way to stand out. Even if you're getting a degree in English studies, and start a business in graphic design, you'd surely enjoy the benefit. Likewise, the work you put into your academic research will give you the experience to make proper and professional research in your line of business. It will help you to be mindful of the future of your business, and also give you a more polished leaning in the way you run your business.

Likewise, education will provide more opportunities on the long run, and even if business were to suffer a huge setback, you'll be able to pick yourself up. As you invest in your business, remember this quote from Benjamin Franklin that "an investment in knowledge pays the best interest".

Romance / Some Girls Think Boys Should Know What They Are Thinking. by Muurian: 6:16am On Sep 14, 2020
I don’t know if i am exaggerating this or not, but this is one thing i found to be common with every girl i have known. For some reason, especially if there is enough closeness and affection, i realise that they usually believe that i am expected to know what they’re thinking. Even when they’re not giving the right cues for it, or giving the right cues that can make it possible for you to know what they want or mean exactly.

At an expanded world view, i think it’s same thing that plays out with the wooing stage (of any), that innate (entitlement mentality) that it is the duty of the opposite gender to decode the green lights and make a go for it. But, really? In this century? That’s by the way.

A little internet search though brought the right psychological term that classified such behaviours. According to psychologists, it is termed the “Illusion of Transparency“.

What is Illusion of Transparency? Illusion of transparency is a situation in which we mostly overestimate how other people understand our body behaviours and cues. In other words, we overestimate how the mind of other people work judging from our understanding of how our own mind works.

Most times, some cues are very verbal in nature though not done with words or sound but just other visible cues from behaviours and aversions. This is mostly why someone may be frustrated or angry that you did something which you probably have no idea. Because you have no idea that you committed any wrong, decoding the cues the other person is giving becomes an issue, adding to their frustration. It may also lead to the other partner thinking that you don’t care about their feelings seeing as you don’t seem to get it.

In the other way around, you may be hiding your feelings, emotions or appearances to conceal something you think other people are noticing about you. However, it’s usually the case that other people don’t even care about what is really troubling you, especially if it has something to do with the appearance.

This is the reason why communication is key in every affairs or relationship. Learn to communicate your mind at all times, so that you don’t create unnecessary drama because of avoidable feelings related neglect. There is no X-rays in the market that gives clues to the outlays of thought patterns and thinking processes. undecided

Politics / Dear Nigerian Politicians, What Will You Lose If Nigeria Became Better Governed? by Muurian: 7:44am On Sep 08, 2020

Dear Nigerian Politicians,

What will you loose if our dear country became a better governed country? Is it your prestige? Your honour?

Is it that you love the constant adulation and hypocritical worship for the peanuts from your pockets which was strategically looted from the national purse?
What exactly do you have to lose if Nigeria became better that you stiff-necked anti-nationalist yam eaters can't just fathom and allow the country move forward? What is it?

Only a harebrained delinquent steals money from his people and invests it in other people's land as a means of hiding it. Unfortunately, most Nigerian politicians share this delinquency like they share the national cakes.

Kids that grew up too quick playing catch, turned to adults and made it a national thing because they were privileged enough, and now they continue to play catch with our national glory for their selfish interest as they dine and dwell in the corridors of power.

Unsympathetic heartless souls masquerading as heroes of the people when all they are after is their empty stomaches, sticking to politics like leeches because their brains are empty with nothing to offer than empty promises. How the people continue to tolerate this bunch of losers and anti-nationalist charlatans will always becloud the mind. In their mind they have gagged the masses and everything they said, happens. It's giving them an illusion of superiority and security, especially backed with their looted yams; that false security that sets in before the earth shattering reality check sets in.

What exactly do you have to lose if we became better governed with good checks and balances, and become humans for once? Is it your stealing pen? Your free access to tax payers money with no accountability and transparent process? Is that it? You don't want to get caught? You don't want to work hard like the everyday citizen of this great nation and earn legitimate money, is that it?

You want your whole generation to have free access to public money and live luxurious lifestyles at the detriment of everyone else right? It's none of your business isn't it? The roads are bad, accidents everywhere, bad hospitals, no funded healthcare system for less privileged, no proper education for the citizens...but, it's none of your business because your children can comfortably school and grow up elsewhere. You have the money to make it happen, don't you? At the expense of the public right?

Is that what you are afraid of? Is that why you are dragging the country backward? Or is it to protect your dubious business interests and back cutbacks from government sanctioned contracts? Is there something else? I will love to hear it. What is it you have to lose? Huh? Is the government House your father's personal property? Tell us, is it?

It's very clear to all that Nigeria’s future lies mostly on the attitude and willingness of the elected officials to address the basic constraints that hamper equity and justice. We know for certain that a functional accountable and transparent political and legal system and structure, consistent good governance, good security for citizens and credible electoral process will advance our nations polity and progress. Everyone knows that it is with understanding among all groups in the country, an economy that gives everyone a chance and narrows inequalities between classes, is what will move the country forward. So, why are you not doing it?

Aren't you adults supposed to be more mature and know better? I mean, you travel outside the country frequently, you see how others did theirs, but for some reason we cannot have same development. Why is that? Is it that we don't have the money? Is it that you are blind to what is happening in the country? Or is the hunger in your stomach too much, it's beclouded your judgement?

Everyone knows that it is illogical and irrational for a country of about 200million people, blessed with natural and human resources, to still be at the level of underdevelopment we are at the moment. The type of abuse we are contending with here, both of human and natural resources, is simply unreasonable and irksome to every rational mind on earth.
Countries with fewer resources than us have done better, and yet this anti-nationalist backward thinking charlatans masquerading as Nigerian politicians simply lack the capacity to get the picture.

You pander to useless antics, pursuing sand and water, continuously embark on white elephant projects and keep chasing clout. For some reason, all of the things you should be doing becomes gimmicks for political abracadabra and nonsensical brouhaha's. Roads are now death zones welcoming passengers who are typically now on death row every time they use these roads. Insecurity reigns supreme in the land, but for some reason, government is always preoccupied with killing innocent unarmed civilians while terrorists, bandits and criminals terrorise and butcher the land. People are afraid of leaving their homes; people are forced to leave their homes and run away, becoming homeless in their own homeland. But, that's none of your business, is it? I mean, is not happening to you right? It's not happening to any member of your family isn't? After all, they're being protected with the tax payers money in form of security guards.

What is wrong with you unsympathetic lootocrats for crying out loud? Are you blind that you can't see what is happening around the country? The people are not happy, but it is none of your business, isn't? How can one be hungry when he should have been having enough in his own homeland where there is plenty but cornered by a few? But, you don't care. As long as your ego and pride is fed, everyone else can go to hell.

Is that it? Are you afraid that if Nigeria became better governed, the misery of the people you derive joy from will no longer be there? Is that it? No one will be calling you sir and expecting peanut's anymore because things will be done on merit and transparently, is that your fear? Because of this, you probably fear that you will loose your influence and authority right? I mean, it's obvious from those who's been there, got politically buried for life and went to a political oblivion. You even gang up on yourselves and kill yourselves for absolute rubbish. After all, you have tested power, ate the national yam in surplusage, and drank from the nectar of successive yam eaters associations masquerading as political parties whose real aim is access to free public fund. You are afraid this golden unholy geese that keeps yielding free money from other citizen's sweat and hard labour will cease, right?

You don't want to create meaningful opportunities, companies and corporations, but you know how to create all manner of taxable levies and unscrupulous deductions and impose on hard-working citizens. That's all you do best, isn't it? All you do is take, and take, and take. But, you don't give, neither do you create. All your energy is geared towards creating tools of boosting your silly politicking that will still end in termite feasts or ash-turned matter reaction in an overheated oven.

Doesn't it occur to you that you are dragging the country backward with your childish politics of stomach infrastructure? Does it occur to you that you are making us all look stupid in the eyes of the world? Do you understand that you are the representative who is supposed to be steering us on the right path of development and infrastructural advancement? Do you understand that it is your duty to create jobs, provide security and adequate infrastructure that will improve the living standards of the people?

Why can't you simply just do what you said you would do? Is that so hard to do? Are you afraid you won't be able to use religion and ethnic divisive tacts (your biggest tools) to bring dichotomy anymore? Is that it, you politicking stomach infrastructure jingoistic anti-nationalist. You are a 100% complete big disgrace to yourself and to humanity in general. Emancipate yourself from the mental slavery of stomach infrastructure, or reality is going to set on you like sunset. Remember, reality is always disappointing!

I will like to believe that you once hoped for a better Nigeria at some point while growing up. By crook, hard work or by chance, you are now there in the corridors of power. But, instead of utilising the power to make things better, you have now made yourself one of the things wrong with Nigeria. One thing with problems though is that they might persist for a while, but eventually, they get solved!

Yours sincerely,
Make Nigeria The Great Nation She Deserves!

Education / Universe 25 Experiment: One Of The Most Terrifying Experiments In Science. by Muurian: 5:04pm On Sep 07, 2020

The Universe 25 Experiment is a scientific experiment performed by American top scientist, John Calhoun. In the experiment, the scientist used an artificially created mice colony to perform an experiment to help further understand the dynamics of the human society.

John Calhoun built a colony of mice for the experiment and brought in hundreds of mice to fill it in. The colony itself was built as a paradise, containing surplus food and water with all good housing conditions that you will expect in a typical paradise. He called it "Paradise of Mice". The plan was to watch the hundreds of mice live in this ideal world of surplusage, multiply and seemingly enjoy themselves forever.

Romance / Never Brush Your Mouth Before Sex. Read To See Why It Is Dangerous! by Muurian: 3:19pm On Aug 10, 2020

It may be very tempting to brush the mouth if partners or persons in relationship’s want to engage in oral intercourse. This may be to flavour the breath or make it exude fresh fragrance when you speak or kiss. This also applies to everyone attempting or planning to engage in MouthAction.

No matter how bad your breath is, do not make the mistake of brushing your teeth before any sexual related purposes.

Brushing the teeth (and tongue by extension) with a tooth brush creates tears on a microscopic level on your gums and the walls inside the mouth. This tiny tears are permeable to sexually transmitted diseases and sexually transmitted infections. In other words, one can get infected through them quickly and easily with deadly diseases.

Diseases like HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhoea, herpes, syphilis and hepatitis B can easily be contacted through this tiny microscopic holes opened up by the teeths of the toothbrush.
