Good day VO,

I am asking this on behalf of a colleague. He applied for a business visa B1 for a conference in New Jersey and indicated during the interview he will be going to NJ and back only, likewise he filled he is to go with a specific airline on his form (Those were the plan then).

He got a B1/B2 visa and will be going for the conference as scheduled. However, he now intend to spend a bit more time(he got his annual leave approved after the interview) than indicated on the form for tourism purpose, he intended getting to Washington DC and Texas or so, for another 2-3 weeks weeks after the training after which he is coming back to Nigeria. His travel itinerary and return ticket will reflect the dates and all.

The question is that he is worried if this will not be a problem for him at the POE as he did not indicate the tourism bit during his interview. Also, will it be an issue if he flies in with a different airline to the one on his DS 160 form, and landed at a different airport? His itinerary is heading to the conference first but via a different route than was on the form.

This is not a misrepresentation as the idea of spending a bit more time only came to him after getting the visa and also had his leave approved.

What should he do, did he need to inform the embassy here of the extra 2 weeks he intend to spend now as he indicated only 1 week for the training during the interview? Please advise,he is so scared of running foul of US laws in any form and do not want to jeopardize his chances of being able to go to United States now or at any other time in the future.

thank you.

Dear VO,

is B1 the appropriate visa category while applying to go for an official work related training in the USA. There are some arguments its better to apply for B1/B2.

Please clarify, thankyou.

Hello MXoXo,
We strongly discourage you from reapplying unless something in your life or circumstances have changed.

Dear VO,

Thanks for your response to my question. I did believe my circumstances and the purpose of my travel is deserving of a non-immigrant visa at this time. This is a now situation that could gravely impact my future endeavors in the opportunity for this highly coveted professional IT trainning but for the physical discomfort situation I had and it was all over in less than 5 minutes. I wouldn't be bothered were it to be for tourism or something less important. There should be a way for US Visa system to give one a possible immediate redress in this kind of situation.

I am quite sure that was the sole reason for the denial cos the VO kept repeating my response to himself and I wasn't allowed to talk further even after I had managed to put myself together. This was just as a result of my slight indisposition. Please advise further.

Thank you

Dear VO,

I did believe i was to blame for my denial this morning. i had a slight fever starting last nite and it really affected my composure this morning, despite all my effort to be calm and remain confident. I was asked about the trainning i was going for and asked to explain technically which i didnt do even to my own satisfaction. Of course, i can talk and explain and even lecture on that technology.

It is an official trainning that is so important to my work and career growth, someone else, probably will be asked to proceed coz i am unable to get the visa and could affect my next promotion which is a milestone. It is a huge opportunity thats is going to be lost if am unable to make it, its a legitimate, highly coveted training by anyone in my profession and i had well established ties here in Nigeria. Its not in my favour at all that i wont return from this short trainning course.

what can i do at this time please, can i reapply given the fact that it doesnt start until the end of the month. i am quite aware of your admonition not to reapply until at least after 90 days, but then the opportunity will be lost forever. I need a chance in the short time to prove my legitimate bonafide.

Thank you.

Dear VO,

Kindly shed light on this issue for me.

Previous Employers: the form indicated we should give history of employment in the last 5 years if applicable.

Below is what i found out from Travel.state.gov site giving help on filling Previous Employer

Help: Previous Employer.
Please enter information regarding your previous two employers only. Applicants may choose to bring along a separate written list of all previous employers to the visa interview for reference..

Here is my question, i had worked in my present organisation for slightly over a decade now, though i had worked before them for a short period in 2 other places. now my previous 5 years is in my present employment...do i still list the previous employers, the most recent is no longer operational. i am confused on the appropriate thing to do here.

Regards
