WILL10: 5 Legal and Basic Job types for foreigners in Korea(especially D2 Students)
Hello friends, just thought i should share my thoughts concerning the job prospects specifically for students, as this have always been the most popular and common questions i get through emails, week-in and out.
Korean Law states that students are only permitted to officially work on part time(max 20 hours weekly) and only after completing 6 months in Korea. However, these laws are often flawed or flouted by students. Below are the 5 cardinal jobs a student could roll-on with until graduation here.
1. Factory Jobs -Usually long-term or monthly, -Pay is bi-monthly or monthly and its awesome too. -Minimum $1,800 USD monthly. -Not so easy to secure for students as it requires documentations(most times), time-demanding and would sure affect your academics.
2. Tekbe (Arabite) Jobs -Casual or short-term jobs. -Pay is daily and good too. -Minimum $70 USD or much more per day. -Could be day, night or weekend jobs. -Quite easy to secure and mostly okay to manage with academics.
3. English Teaching jobs -Usually part time or purely full time jobs. -Pay is bi-weekly or monthly and its awesome too. -Minimum $2,000 USD Monthly, depending on the number of hours you work per week and your bargaining strength. -Extremely tough to secure for anyone other than the recognized Native English speaking countries(check on google for the countries). -Students could get it based of sheer-luck or strong familiar referrals.
4. Paid Internship. -Purely formal company jobs. -Usually medium-term or semester vacation jobs, -Pay is bi-monthly or monthly and its awesome too. -Minimum $1,500 USD monthly. -Not so easy to secure for students as it is competitive.
5. Business, skill-oriented, short-term personal contracts, others. -Importation/exportation business. -contracts using your skill-sets (examples: App Programming skills, hair-making and cooks(for girls), remotely working as English translators, corrector, writers, etc.) -No strings attached regarding timing and pay, as it is entirely up-to you and your clients.
Please be well informed prior to coming here so you don't get into a fix. "Fore-warned is Fore-armed"
NB: The info listed above are purely based on my personal opinion/experiences. However, they could slightly differ with the views of other Nigerian residents in SK.
Cheers. What is the fate of D4 visa holders? Can they get jobs easily and what type of jobs are they entitle to? |

WILL10:
I have decided to submit my application to SNU but a bit scared of scammers cos I'm not too familiar with online stuff and I believe some website can be operating by scammers. Please what is apostille of certificates or documents and where can I do it?Thanks
In my own opinion: 1: SN Univ. is asking a little too much. Start with something moderate or even less-moderate since you are considering language Prog. for now. Google is always your friend and a thorough brush-up of this thread(from the start) should help you with a handsome list of schools.
2. People could be deported based on so many reasons/factors. Not necessarily the visa type but the documentations, confidence (when asked questions by the immigration officers) and clarity of purpose in Korea. For instance if your documentation isn't clear about your destination point and accommodation, pickup person or contacts, mission/purpose, you would be sent back.
NB: The highlighted parts in bold could majorly be the reasons here. Immigration officers sometimes puts a call through to your contacts, verifies him/her personality(institution/coy/organizations/church/hospital/mosques/whatever) and affinities(ties) with you even without your knowledge. Choice is yours to make. EOD. This link might not be exactly related to our discussions, but it sure summarizes how the immigration officers operate: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmbKQmy4RZA
Hope this helps! Cheers. |

@,acadollar, will 10 and other gurus in the house Compliments and maximum regards to you all. l be been following this thread for some time now and I must confess that you guys are doing great and marvelous work here.
I have contacted some schools in Korea such as Seoul national university etc for Korea language programs for the the past two weeks but none of them has replied me. please,is there any school you can recommend to me for language program with cheapest tuition fee and how to contact them easily with immediate response.
secondly, I have a Chinese friend here in Nigeria who her family base in Korea, she promise to get me a conference visa and free accommodation in her house in Korea with ease of getting a job by her hubby but I was scared to accept the offer because of the conference visa and more over I learnt that most of the time people were deported at the point of entry which I don't know if visa type is the cause.
please kindly advice me on what to do or option to choose, Thanks 1 Like |
