Car Talk / Ikorodu To Ajegunle-Apapa! In Search Of Motorists Going My Way. by Mystical888: 5:42pm On Mar 03, 2017
Dear Nairalanders,

Please i've recently decided to do a move from my comfort zone to Ikorodu in Lagos.

I need life experiences from members here who reside in Ikorodu and are willing to share ideas on the journey to and from Apapa where i work.

I know Mondays are always quite hectic considering the population and the roads.

Kindly assist with information on how to get to work early, possible routes and alternative means of transportation available.

I look forward to your encouraging comments, advice and contributions.

to be honest.... thats a very tough move moreso ur places of work isn't accessible by waterways dat operates in within ikorodu nd it environs.... however since it's ur property.... my advice is simple get a family or reliable caregiver to stay wit ur kids while u do (Mon_wed) (wed-Friday) u rent a room in a flat or get a family to scout wit during d week while u come home weekends..... I stand to be corrected not abused jus my personal opinion
Cos av worked in dat shoes and I knw it hurts sily...
in other news welcome to our developing ikorodu ;

You didn't state the statistics in your comment.
Growing up in Lagos has molded me to adjust to different environments.
I don't want to consider the bolded as a possible option.
Family / Ikorodu Residents Working On The Mainland - What's The Secret? by Mystical888: 8:22pm On Mar 02, 2017
Hello house,

Please I've been wondering how convenient it would be to finally move to my Ikorodu property with my family after all this time.

At least as an austerity measure to curb rent payment for the next couple of years and focus on more important areas of family life.

1) Do we have people who can share their experience here?
How do you cope with Ikorodu traffic from Monday to Friday?

2) Do you prefer to drive, go on public transport BRT or Danfo?

3) How do you manage to get to work early enough?
The return journey home from work too, how's the experience?

Spouse and i both work on the mainland (Apapa and Ikotun respectively) while we reside around Egbeda.

The Ikorodu house is in the Igbogbo outskirt close to Bayeku.
Family / My Friend just Called Her Hubby A slowpoke and a Mad man to his face! by Mystical888: 3:46pm On Dec 28, 2016
I just got wind of the aftermath of a quarrel between my friends.

They’ve been married for about six years and a small disagreement brought about a confrontation which isn’t going down well with the husband.

During the exchange of words, the woman called her husband a “slowpoke and a Mad man” (Shouting probably so the neighbours could hear).

Now the husband is showing her in every way possible that he indeed is a mad man.

He has stopped eating her food and talking to her, he isn’t helping with the necessities to run the home too, the Wife isn't at all comfortable with this development.

What do you think is the ideal punishment for her offence?

Is he overreacting or is he on track but over flogging the issue?

Your kind comments please.

Nancy2016:

This is a better schedule. One observation I would like to make is, don't rely too much on the house-help helping your kids with their homework. Make sure you also review your kids homework and ensure that they are learning the correct thing. Sometimes kids growing up learn improper grammar from their nannies. It is definitely the responsibilities of the parents to monitor what their kids are learning.

Well noted!
Thanks.
That's what I d though.

I just reviewed the schedule to create rest time for the help.

This is what it looks like now, any more observations?

If it were just as simple as it is here then these helps wouldn't be so bitter.
Errm, talking about investing, how are you investing on this particular help? No school, no lesson classes.

If she wasn't getting some education how will she be allowed to help with homework?
That's what's called "giving back to the host community".
You should read the subject in particular to understand what this post is about.

Besides, the schedule is a draft meant to seek your opinions for a water tight document that'll be flawless.
Everybody is to be put into consideration, both house help and family.

Hello Fellow Nairalanders,

When you start a family and the kids start growing, you realize that house chores start to pile up; dirty dishes unwashed clothes, kids school and homework, buying foodstuff and cooking for the family.

This gets harder when you have to work alongside or do business.

Then you have to choose between having one of your young relations come over or employ the services of a house help.

When you had to employ the services of a house help, did issues bothering on language, age, ethnicity, gender etc come up?

Then you have to consider the work schedule to fully maximize the hours of work and the monthly cost of engaging the help in the first place.

Do you draw a table like the one I’ve posted below or spell out her duties verbally?

Do you spread the chores to separate weekly activities from daily and monthly activities?

When and how do you realize that your house help is God sent and that she’s worth every kobo you’ve invested?

Please i'm considering buying an inverter, one in the range of a 1kva generator ( i better pass my neighbour) but i have the following concerns:-

1) I heard some inverters have a challenge of not lasting long especially when charged with generator.
2) Using generators to charge damages the inverter batteries.

Is there a solution to the charging issue?
How can i possibly charge the inverter battery with generator since it's the most stable and reliable source of power supply that i have?

I know of two very beautiful businesses you can do to generate good extra income that will support your home.

OP please i have a few questions for you to help satisfy my curiosity.
1) How do you manage two side businesses alongside the courtroom?
2) Distributing someone else's packaged water.....Where's the margin in it for you?
3) Repackaging used clothes, shoes and bags...Do you mean Okrika or packaging them for the boutique, how do you do it?
Properties / Re: Best Of Price On Tiles, water Closet, pipes And Fitting Free Home Delivery by Mystical888: 9:14am On May 04, 2016
Hello Rotech,
In this your line of business, I’m sure you have different categories of customers and you’ll agree with me that you’d definitely have classed them into the following:-

Promising:-
Those who buy expensive wares in large quantity, this is where the profit is for you. You therefore don’t joke with this class of customers.
You prefer to travel all the way to make deliveries by yourself.
This category of customers are those you label as “diaspora customers” business men carrying out huge projects in Ibadan and Ilorin also fall under this category.

Less promising:-
Those customers who order for a few square meters of floor tiles for bathroom only.
They are always after the cheapest china tiles and often demand huge discounts.
They prefer to pick up their supply by themselves to further cut down on cost.
To this category of customers it takes forever to deliver their supplies, the agreement is not enough to even pay for fuel to carry out delivery of their purchase to site, especially with the fuel scarcity and hike in fuel price.

Not promising:-
This category of people always ask for prices, pictures and quotes of everything you sell.
From tiles, wash hand basin, Jacuzzi, water closet and kitchen sinks to taps and water heaters.
They plan to buy those items but are not ready yet.
However, to keep up with their demands, you pay for extra internet data to post and send pictures, carry out market research and even do follow ups.
You prefer this category to the less promising, with the hope that they will one day make huge purchase and you’ll end up making large profits from the transaction.

This post is just a figment of the imagination of an observing nairalander.
It is not meant to cause disunity among members.
Just for fun grin

Hello House,

I've always had this at the back of my mind.
The fact that after years of a prosperous career, there'll come a time that I'll have to call it quits.
I either have to leave my employers or may be asked to go.

Not with the Age/performance graph doing a downward plunge on me.
I often wonder what I'll do when this happens, what will become of me.

I'm sure several other people have often asked same questios while a few others have it all thought of and taken care of.
I'm looking for ideas that will see me having a swell useful life in retirement.

Let's have a discourse on this subject.
Let's all have our futures planned.
Let's learn from the gurus on here.

onegig:
Nothing wrong in your approach setting a deadline is what I just believe is wrong and would only lead to unnecessary pressures on the kids.
They have their lives to live and the formative years should be very relaxed and any extra curricula activities engaged in should just be for the fun of it and not about setting milestones.

jasper7:

hi, I think this is more of what you think will make them super kids. I think you'll need to study them a bit and develop whatsoever you think they have a flair for, to get the best out of them. and having them do too much might not be so helpful in making them "super". If the kid can be so good in one out of all these, spend more time teaching the child that one.
and personally, I think it's very cool that you are committed to the development of your kids smiley

brunofarad:
Teach them how to PRAY
Teach them the tenet of LOVE
Teach them the value of saving for tomorrow

All well noted!

Hello house,

Please i need your opinion about the exterior designs or sculpture work on the corners of buildings.

I seem to regard them as trendy and with time they'll fade out and make your building look old.
What do you think about them?

Family / My Five-year Training Plan For My Two Superkids! Any Suggestions? by Mystical888: 7:03am On Dec 26, 2015
Hello house,

Going by the popular adage that says, "Train your child in the way of the lord and when the child grows up he wont forget".

And also the modern belief which says "The time you Spend with your kids is worth more than the money you lavish on them".

I have listed a few trainings for them and I'm searching for places where they can achieve them before the clock age (10) ten:-

(1) Playing the piano
(2) Karate
(3) Playing the violin
(4) Playing the saxophone
(5) Learn baking
(6) Learn to speak french and Arabic
(7) Learn sewing
(cool Learn good use of the computer .....Etcetera

Family / When Your Nanny/househelp Suddenly Becomes An Ally To The Neighbours! by Mystical888: 8:07am On Sep 20, 2015
Hello House,

I'm in a dilemma concerning my househelp and Nanny.

I've noticed she has developed a relationship with the neighbours which I'm not comfortable about.

She isn't a live in hand but has been with us for 2 years now.
She is a woman in her early 40s, a Yoruba Christian who stays not too far from my place.

She helps with housechores when we are away at work.
Her job role is to:-

(1) prepare the kids and take them to school every morning.

(2) Return to the house and do housekeep.

(3)Take the kids home after school hours.

(4)Prepare lunch for them and help them with their home work.

Her hours of work is between 7am and 7pm when she resigns to go to her house.

My daughter has told me how they've gone twice to watch TV next door in the home of both neighbours. (Nanny took them there).

Should I be worried about this development or is it part of the growing up phase for the kids?

Seems she isn't challenged enough with the workload and what does she do when she's at the neighbours.

okirewaju:
Get electric cooker
Do you re-fill in a gas plant or these local dealers?
Do you weigh the gas cylinder before and after filling?

Its been my practice to "go and comeback" to pick up the filled bottle.
And its been the roadside guys of course.
I don't bother weighing since the scale apparently would have been adjusted to the dealer's favour.
I've learned something here.

Chidoks:
If you don't have prepaid electricty meter, get more appliances like electric stove, electric kettle( if you don't have water heater). Do you cook beans alot? get a pressure pot for your beans, cowlegs and others (whenever there is power outage) You need a whistling kettle if you boil water and leave the kitchen.
Fill your gas in a plant.the road side retailers tend to fill the cylinder with air though the good ones pause and release the air but if it's at the plant , their nozzle is tight thus oxygen cannot enter plus they weigh it in front of you before and after filling to avoid overfilling sef.

Plus postpaid electricity billing is what i use presently.
I'll make use of an electric cooker by the side and beat PHCN to a few bucks.

Two months is not bad. That is around 50 naira a day for four people. From my findings most average families refill between 7 and ten weeks.

12.5kg ....

Okay, so i've seen two weeks and two months on here.
I am tempted to believe that my local gas dealer is responsible for this challenge.
Could he be filling my bottle with less gas or could it be the quality of cooking gas he sells?
