Never paid ₦1 as custom duty for all the sea shipping I've done so far. Must've been factored into the shipping cost.
Will look into this. Thank you

You can always buy from China and ship it direct to them. Sea shipping rate is not bad, just takes more time with ETA between 45 to 90 days.
Your responses have been helpful. What about custom fees and the like? I heard that's a huge problem. If I send $6k worth of Lithium Batteries, the custom dues would be crazy.

Just providing you the companies you can use to ship things down from there...you don't really have to buy a single Growatt from US to ship down here. It may not be the most cost effective things to do.

My inverter was actually included in a big purchase from Signature solar and their warranty covers it.

It won't be cheaper to just source Chinese product from the US unless there's a deal to be had.

Sometimes I do buy things like phone, power tools, etc from the US, I use heroshe to ship it down or have a friend bring it down when they visit Nigeria, which is often.
Also, it's kinda cheap to ship from China to US if you know the right people. Only thing is that it might take time to get to you. For example, I have bought a couple 280AH, 304AH EVE cells from China for my own DIY battery. I bought JK BMS as well for a 48V 14kw / 15kw battery set up. Signature solar sells their EG4 PowerPro for around $3700-$4000 minus shipping and sales tax. Importing battery cells from China cost me around $2000 for the entire setup + shipping.

American companies buy things from China and increase the price by 3 folds. Importing from China can be a viable option. I wanted to build my own battery packs using Apexium DIY kit and ship them to Nigeria. The shipping would be outrageous and might not make sense. Shipping from China to US isn't that bad.

So I guess my family in Nigeria can't have nice things 🤣

I see. How feasible is travelling with a Growatt inverter from US to Nigeria? 🤣🤣.

Just kidding here. It makes more sense to me now that your friends bring stuff from US to Nigeria. I thought they were shipping it to you directly, which is something I was looking forward to do. But like you said, shipping a single thing isn't viable.

I have bought some EG4 batteries and Solar Panels from Signature Solar in the past. Pretty good deal.

Okay, any drop in the lithium performance?.. i was thinking of upgrading to lithium soon. All the hype about lithium. Even mobile phones that use lithium battery, over the years the battery does depreciate. Phone wey dey last one full day after purchase, 6months later, e no go reach again..
Are you referring to Lithium-Ion or Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries? The latter tends to have a higher cycle life and typically degrades to 80% of its original capacity after completing its cycle life. Reaching 2,500 - 4,000 cycles in 3 years is only feasible if you are cycling your battery from 0-100% multiple times a day. Most users cycle their batteries between 20% and 80% to extend the cycle life. By doing this, your battery can last for more than 15 years with minimal degradation, primarily due to calendar aging.

Regarding performance drop over time, it's true that lithium batteries, like those in mobile phones, do depreciate. The rate of depreciation can vary significantly based on usage patterns and battery management. Mobile phones often experience faster degradation due to frequent full charge and discharge cycles and exposure to heat (I charge my phone multiple times per day).

For larger lithium battery systems, such as those used in solar energy setups, proper management can mitigate these issues. For example, keeping the battery charge between 20% and 80%, avoiding extreme temperatures, and using a battery management system (BMS) can all help extend the lifespan and maintain performance.

Where you buy your batteries is also crucial. For example, Pylontech batteries are known for their reliability and long lifespan. I cannot vouch for Felicity batteries, as there have been instances of dishonesty reported. They use smaller cells to get their capacity and the battery isn't the capacity they claim it's. I've never used Felicity, just writing based on their reviews and giving examples of where Lithium can fall short not due to the Lithiuk chemistry, but how the battery was packed.

Ok. Heorshe is fast though a lil pricy. But you can also check out www.bodylanguageshippingandcargo.com if you are in NJ
So your friends in the US use those companies to send you products? I thought your friends were buying stuff and sending them to you. Anyways, looking at that growatt, it's Kinda cheaper buying it in Nigeria than buying it in the US. So I don't see the significant gain here in that one example. Tax break is just 30% and it's for the whole system not just for an inverter. Except I am not really understanding. I am happy to discuss more about this with you.

Have friends in the US is the best option. Or use third party shipper like https://heroshe.com/
I live in the US. How do they ship it down to you? Heroshe charges $5/lbs and that's quite expensive.

If you know a good way that's fast and reliable, I could help people ship stuff from here.

Okay.
I think dis is the most common used inverters in households. Am i correct?
Because most inverters i hear about, uses nepa and solar panels to charge battries.
So in earnest you are saying i should leave the solar panel for now and get the inverter and batteries first, right?
With a hybrid inverter you don't need Solar to charge the batteries.

You can charge with:
AC - Grid / Generator.
DC - Solar.

So if you don't have solar panels, it doesn't matter. You can buy the hybrid inverter and batteries. Purchase solar later when you have the funds. Also understand that inverters have Minimum and Maximum Solar Input. Some inverters need certain voltage coming in from solar to work. The same for AC as well, but as long as you are putting in 220 volts AC ( for 220v single phase inverters ) you are good.

I have read through everyone's response to your question, And I am not going to counter anyone's advise given to you.
I have been using Solar electricity for several years and I am still using it now and I also did some installation back then before I stopped.
There are facts about Solar electricity you need to know before you venture into it.its left for you to make your choice
What I am about to tell now, no solar electricity engineer would tell you
Firstly, you can't replace THE MAIN GRID with Solar electricity, solar is there for back up.
It's better you do a household solar system, probably a 2.0kva,24V Inverter 1000watts solar panel, 2 TUBULAR BATTERIES system to carry resistive loads of TV, DSTV,one or two fans DURING THE DAY WHEN THERE IS SUNLIGHT and when it's evening, use it for LIGHTING OF BULBS ONLY.
Use your remaining money to buy a standard generator that can power your AC, FREEZER and other inductive loads.
Do not buy china made, buy ORIGINAL INDIAN PRODUCT that will last you, get the once that has SERVICE CENTRE In case of repairs of minor faults
Install a battery balancer on your 24V battery system
Make sure you do EARTHING on your solar system to prevent LIGHTNING damage during rainfall
I wish someone told me all these facts when I first ventured into solar electricity, I wasted a lot of money before I finally got it right
Don't waste your money trying to build solar system that will carry PUMPING MACHINE ,AC,FREEZERS, ITS VERY EXPENSIVE TO BUILD NOW. TRUTH BE TOLD it will work after installation but not sustainable, because these appliances draw lots of current from the batteries, even if you buy 10 batteries at once, it's a matter of time, the moment one of the battery develops a fault( thermal fault, shorted cell, open cell) it will start to affect others.
And lastly, during rainfall, solar electricity is not always effective, you will have to rely more on your battery backup, at this time try to reduce your resistive loads.
I hope you find this helpful.....JSolar, jerryighodalo@gmail.com.

Investing in lithium iron phosphate batteries is your best bet. High upfront cost, but it's cheaper than Acid batteries down the line. The Chinese make products according to your spec. If you want high quality you will have to pay higher. The so called Indian products are either imported from China or components used were sourced from China. China is winning as far as solar is concerned. Even in the US, we use Chinese products for solar.

48 volts systems are usually better and cheaper. If you have the budget, go for it. Get yourself a 48v growatt hybrid inverter. This will give you a chance to expand in
the future. You can parrallel the inverter and increase capacity easily.

Might be expensive, but if you want to get into solar big time, you will have to go for new technology that will last you for years. If you don't have the budget, then you can go for smaller systems. But I tell you, in the long run, spending upfront will save you money.

Lastly, I agree with your earthing take. I've seen in this forum where people talk about using salt / charcoal with copper to earth your solar panels etc. These things aren't necessary, if you put a Galvanized Steel Rod 8 ft in the ground, that's enough for conductivity.

No idea why they are fighting the referee. The referee gave them everything to win. It wasn't like the ref was biased against them. The Malian FA should be fined for that behavior.

I disagree with your submission in terms of lfp battery quality in USA.
Most of us here are members of other forums dominated by foreigners including USA residents.
Maybe I would drop some lfp battery USA warehouses including reviews from various companies (Docan, Luyuan etc) and perhaps the issue some people are facing there regarding the genuineness of the products in question.
Someone shipped 280ah cells last year October from New Jersey with no signs of use and the manufacturer date of March 2023. He was happy that he has gotten quality cells but when he dropped the pictures of the cells in the forum for confirmation, Steve_S and others told him after the analysis that if he removes the black cover from the top of the cells, they're certain it would show signs of sanding and re-lasering. Of course the cells were not legit.
Most of us are facing the same issue from these dubious vendors. The latest Eve grade A 280ah version comes with double screw terminals and test out at 292-298ah and will deliver the full 280ah working voltage as intended.
We should take note of the terminals being used on the cells. As usual, grade B cells will have welded studs instead of dual hole mountings.
Unfortunately, some vendors are still flogging cells with tapped holes.
Submission: A lot of people from USA are buying fake cells just as Nigerians do.....
If you don't know, you don't know.

What reliable seller will you recommend in Nigeria? In the US for example, signaturesolar is a go to seller of good solar systems, there are other good sellers I can think of. Who can you say is that way in Nigeria, where I can buy these things with confidence? It's been too hard to figure this out.

It's either overpriced, or fake. The point I was trying to make is that it's easier to get good solar panels, batteries and inverter here in the US. I never said there was no fake or shady sellers in the US. In fact, solar installers are known for their shady business practices.

Hi guys, I live in the US, but I want to implement solar for my family back home in Nigeria. I am scared that the quality isn't up to what we get in the US. Especially the Lithium Ion Phospate batteries. I was thinking of sending the materials from the US, but the cost will be outrageous. Also, the US uses 120V while Nigeria uses 220V.

My question here is, do you guys have reliable sellers in Nigeria I can buy from? And what brand do you guys recommend? Is there any reliable website you guys buy from? My family lives in Lagos Nigeria.

Your answers will be greatly appreciated.
