Sports / Marcus Rashford Racially Abused After Loss To Crystal Palace by NaijaVTN(f): 8:01am On Aug 25, 2019
Marcus Rashford racially abused: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says perpetrators 'hiding behind' profiles

People who post racist abuse on social media "hide behind fake identities", said Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after striker Marcus Rashford was targeted.

The England forward, 21, was abused after missing a penalty in Saturday's shock 2-1 home loss to Crystal Palace.

United's Paul Pogba was also targeted after a spot-kick miss on Monday.

Anti-discrimination body Kick It Out called the abuse "vile" and said "decisive action" needs to be taken.

Earlier this week, Twitter said it will meet any stakeholders to show the "proactive work" being done to tackle abuse after 26-year-old France midfielder Pogba was targeted following a missed penalty in a 1-1 draw at Wolves.

Several of Pogba's team-mates - including Rashford - criticised the abuse, while England women's manager Phil Neville called for footballers to "boycott" social media.

Rashford joins a growing list of footballers who have suffered racist abuse after penalty misses, with Chelsea's Tammy Abraham and Yakou Meite of Reading also targeted this week.

In a statement on Saturday, Kick It Out said: "The vile racist abuse on social media continued today.

"This problem will not go away and needs decisive action - that is what we will be making clear to Twitter when we meet."

Speaking before United's Premier League defeat by Palace at Old Trafford, Solskjaer called for "authorities to do something" about the problem.

In a news conference after the game, he said: "It's unheard of and we need it to stop.

"I'm just lost for words if it keeps going. We keep having all these campaigns 'No to Racism' and it keeps hiding behind fake identities. It's just crazy that we talk about this in 2019."

Autos / Childhood Sweethearts Killed In Accident Only Minutes After Getting Married by NaijaVTN(f): 7:27am On Aug 25, 2019
A couple has been killed in an accident only minutes after getting married.

Harley Joe Morgan, 19, and Rhiannon Boudreaux Morgan, 20, said their vows in a Texas courtroom and were just driving out of the courtroom when they collided with a pick-up truck.

The groom was driving a Chevrolet when he collided with a Ford pick-up truck which was towing a trailer carrying a tractor at 3pm on Friday, according to KFDM.

The couple, from the Orange County city of Vidor, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. However, the male driver of the pick-up truck was not injured, said police.

Harley and Rhiannon were childhood sweethearts and always wanted to get married.

Harley’s mum Lashawna Morgan and sister Christina Fontenot witnessed the horrific scene as they drove behind the newlyweds.

Lashawna narrated how she tried to pull the couple from the wreckage as she watched her child die in front of her. She said she had witnessed her "own worst nightmare" and the image will "haunt her for the rest of her life".

The heartbroken mother added that her son and Rhiannon had been in love ever since they met at the age of 13.

Lashawna told KDFM: "They had just gotten married. They haven’t even been married for five minutes. Those two babies. The only thing that they wanted was to get married and start their life. The two of them had so many dreams."

She added that they were planning a bigger ceremony with all their friends and family on December 20 so they could enjoy a Christmas wedding.

Justice of the Peace Joy Dubose-Simonton, who conducted the couple’s wedding later went to the crash scene to pronounce the couple dead, said KFDM.

Crime / EFCC Arraigns People Over Unlawful Possession Of N1.1b Gold And €112,800 Cash by NaijaVTN(f): 5:08pm On Aug 02, 2019
Four men and three companies were on Friday arraigned before a Federal High Court in Abuja on charges bordering on unlawful possession of gold valued at over N7.1billion.

They were also accused, in a two-count amended charge, to which they pleaded guilty, of attempt to transport the cash sum of €112,800 without making a declaration of the some to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) as required by law.

The four men listed in the charge, marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/80/2019 are: Abba Ali Yahaya, Ali Abdullahi, Aminu Mahmud Adam, Alyu Mohammed, Indo Nigeria Mining Company Limited, A. A. Mai Zinari Ltd and Al-Izzat Trading and Investment Ltd. Aliyu Mohammed, who was described as the Director of Indo Nigeria Mining Company Limited and A. A. Mai Zinari Ltd pleaded on their behalf; while Aminu Mohammed Adam, described as a director of Al-Izzat Trading and Investment Ltd, equally pleaded for the company.

Though another company Sino Minmetals Company Limited was listed in the charge as the 4th defendant the prosecuting lawyer, Mohammed Abubakar applied earlier in the proceedings, for the company’s name to be deleted. Abuakar said the decision to excuse Sino from the case was informed by the prosecution’s finding, to the effect that “the 8th defendant (Aliyu Mohammed) has ceased to be a director of the 4th defendant company (Sino), from August 18, 2016, while the alleged offence was committed on the 10th of August 2018, about two years after.

“In the light of this, we apply that the name of the 4th defendant be struck out from the amended charge filed on July 17, 2019.”

C. A. Ejugo, (who held the brief of Vitalis Udoji, for the 4th defendant) and Abdulhameed Mohammed (for the other defendants) did not object to the prosecution’s application in relation to the 4th defendant. Justice Evelyn Maha, in a ruling, struck out the 4th defendant from the charge, following which the other defendants pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to them.

The judge subsequently stood down proceedings until 2.30pm for the sentencing of the defendants.

The two-count amended charge reads: “That you Abba Ali Yahaya and Ali Abdullahi on or about the 10th August, 2018 within the jurisdiction of this honourable court did attempt to transport the cash sum of €112,800 (one hundred and twelve thousand, eight hundred euros) without making a declaration of the some to the Nigeria Custom Service as required by Section 12 of the Foreign Exchange (Monitoring and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, Cap F34, LFN 2004 and you thereby committed on offence contrary to Section 18(b) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended) and punishable under section 2(5) of the some Act.
“That you Abba Ali Yahaya, Aminu Mahmud Adam, Alyu Mohammed, Indo Nigeria Mining Company Limited, A. A. Mai Zinari Ltd and Al-Izzat Trading and Investment Ltd on or about the 10th of August 2018 within the jurisdiction of this honourable court did possess smelted gold, weighing about 73,032 grams with a market value of the sum of N1,127,308,460.40 (One Billion, One Hundred and Twenty Seven Million, Three Hundred and Eight Thousand, Four Hundred and Sixty Naira; Forty Kobo) without a valid permit in that behalf and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 131(d) of the Nigerian Minerals and Mining Act, 2007 and punishable under Section 133 of the some Act.”

Sports / AFCON 2019: Baxter Quits As South Africa Coach After Flop by NaijaVTN(f): 12:20pm On Aug 02, 2019
England-born Stuart Baxter quit Friday as South Africa coach after a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations campaign in Egypt during June and July.

“I feel that I cannot continue to work with the required professionalism and passion as I have done,” the 65-year-old told a press conference at a Johannesburg sports club.

Baxter was widely unpopular with the South African public, while the media welcomed his decision to leave a job reportedly worth 490,000 rands ($33,500/30,000 euros) a month.

Reacting recently to constant criticism, Baxter said there were “54 million national coaches in South Africa”, a reference to the 58.7 million population of the country.

Although Bafana Bafana (The Boys) stunned Cup of Nations hosts Egypt in the round of 16, they made a timid exit against Nigeria in the quarter-finals.

They had been even more unimpressive at the group stage, losing to the Ivory Coast and Morocco and struggling to overcome minnows Namibia.

Previously, Baxter had flopped in a 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign, losing four of five matches as South Africa finished bottom of a group won by Senegal.

The Wolverhampton-born coach had a first stint coaching South Africa with little success a decade ago, failing to take the country to the 2006 World Cup.

He is the ninth coach to quit or be fired since the Cup of Nations ended on July 19 with Algeria defeating Senegal in the final.

Former Dutch star Clarence Seedorf was the highest-profile casualty with defending champions Cameroon sacking him following a last-16 loss to Nigeria.

Hosts Egypt fired Mexican Javier Aguirre, Namibia dumped Ricardo Mannetti, Guinea ditched Belgian Paul Put and Tanzania dropped Nigerian Emmanuel Amunike after poor campaigns.

French coaches Herve Renard and Sebastien Desabre left Morocco and Uganda respectively and Sunday Chidzambwa quit Zimbabwe.

Renard, the most high profile coach in Africa and the only one to guide two countries to the Cup of Nations title, has been hired by Saudi Arabia.

Desabre, who took Uganda to the knockout phase for the first time since 1978, moved to Egyptian club Pyramids, who will debut in the second-tier CAF Confederation Cup next season.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has docked a former member of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Muhammed Adebayo on a six-count charge of land fraud.

He was charged on Thursday before Justice Sikiru Oyinloye of the Kwara State High Court, Count two of the charges reads:

“That you, Mohammed Adebayo, sometimes in July 2013 in Ilorin within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of N950,000 (Nine Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) only from one Mary Omowunmi Kolade on the false pretence that three plots of land (situated at Molete, Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State) which you sold to her belonged to you, a representation you knew to be false punishable under section 1 of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud Related Offences.”
Adebayo pleaded “not guilty” to the charge. Counsel for the EFCC, S.T. Ola thereafter, urged to court to fix a date for the commencement of trial. Defence counsel, M.D. Yusuf, however, moved the bail application of his client.

Family / Re: Wife's Secret Camera Captures Husband Poison Her Everytime He Makes Her Coffee by NaijaVTN(f): 11:54am On Aug 02, 2019
Am telling you
Family / Wife's Secret Camera Captures Husband Poison Her Everytime He Makes Her Coffee by NaijaVTN(f): 11:45am On Aug 02, 2019
A man has been sentenced to 2 months in jail after a secret camera set up by his suspicious wife caught him poisoning her coffee every time.

Therese Kozlowski, who has been married to Brian for 22 years, noticed she became ill every time her husband makes her coffee. This made her suspicious so she set up cameras in their home in Macomb Township, Michigan.

When she looked through the footage, she saw her husband putting what turned out to be antihistamine into the beverage. He started poisoning her in 2018 while they were waiting for her divorce to come through.

Therese said that the drink left her feeling tired, sick and with blurred vision and believes that her husband was trying to kill her. She said on one occasion she almost fell asleep at the wheel of her car because of the drug he put in her coffee.

Speaking about the moment she saw her husband spiking her coffee, Therese said, according to Metro UK: "I felt a horrible coldness in the air, as if I was hunted by a dangerous predator, but in this nightmare, the predator was Brian."

Brian Kozlowski’s lawyer said he had "profound remorse" and put his actions down to going through an "ugly divorce".

Prosecutor Eric Smith said the 60-day sentence was a "slap in the face of the victim and the justice system in general".

He said: "The Court seemed more focused on ensuring the defendant’s freedom and ability to continue to work than the victim and her safety.

"It is troubling to think that someone who commits such a reckless crime, putting his wife and so many other people at risk, is able to walk away with such a light sentence.

"We are all thankful this sneak attack didn’t cause the victim to fall asleep behind the wheel on her way to work, killing herself and/or innocent drivers."

Thirteen days after kidnapping 76-year-old Mrs. Beauty Siasia, mother of ex-international star and former Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia, kidnappers are yet to set her free.

She was kidnapped at her Odoni family compound in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State by gunmen on the night of Monday July 15, 2019.

According to a family source, the kidnappers have already contacted the family through a foreign phone number, demanding a huge sum of money as ransom. Apart from Mrs. Siasia, the kidnappers also abducted a 65-year-old woman, Mrs. Florence Douanana, and her 17-year-old daughter, Selekire Douanana, who are still in the kidnappers den.

The Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa, Uche Anozia, who visited the scene immediately after the news broke, deployed marine components of the force to comb the creeks of the area in search of the abducted victims.

He said the command was doing everything possible for the victims to regain their freedom.

“The police tactical team is working hard to rescue the victims. I am assuring the public and the relatives that no stone will be left unturned. We have deployed the Marine component to the waterways in the area; the command will continue to work hard to take control of marine landscape in the state. You know Bayelsa is 80 percent water and that means, our operations are mainly focusing on waterways.”

Such a touching story
Celebrities / "The Firs 28 Years Of My Life Was Miserable" Tyler Perry Tells Inspiring Story by NaijaVTN(f): 1:22pm On Jul 28, 2019
Tyler Perry's grass to grace story is one he doesn't fail to share any chance he gets to inspire others.

The actor/filmmaker took to Instagram to reveal that the first 28 years of his life was miserable and he was so tired of life to the extent that he was suicidal.

He said nothing worked out but he kept dreaming and kept pushing. He went on to challenge his followers to "keep pressing. Get there, get it done."

He wrote:

When I first saw the land that is my new studio it had been abandoned for years. 10 foot tall grass, snakes, coyotes, etc... but where others saw dilapidation, I saw hope. I saw promise. Several advisors told me not to do it. They gave many reasons. It’s a money pit, timing isn’t right, and so on. But I sat there and prayed about it. I came to peace with it, and I bought it. Now, every day I drive in and see thousands of people working there; working in my dream to build their own.

To think that all of my hard work and a lot of God’s grace have met me at the door of all that I dreamed humbles me to tears. I’m so full with gratitude every day.

I can’t help but look back on my life and remember all the dark days. The first 28 years of my life were miserable. So much so that I was suicidal. I was so tired of living my life in pieces when all I wanted to do was live my life in peace.

My biggest issue and question was this “God, why would you put all of these dreams inside of me and not show me a way to accomplish them.” Nonetheless, I kept working and I kept pressing. What I didn’t know at the time was that every step I was taking was moving me closer to my goal (even the ones that I thought were setbacks). But I kept pressing.

Today I want to challenge all the dreamers reading this. I want to challenge you to keep pressing. GET THERE! GET IT DONE!! I know you can. No matter your age, no matter your circumstances, you too can make it. When you pray, believe!!

Crime / Civil Engineer Jailed For Transferring N540k From His Friend's Phone by NaijaVTN(f): 8:12am On Jul 27, 2019
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ilorin Zonal Office on July 26, 2019 secured the conviction of Hammed Lanre, a Civil Engineer, who was arraigned before Justice Mahmood Abdulgafar of a Kwara State High sitting in Ilorin, for offence bordering on stealing.

He was alleged to have illegally withdrawn the sum of N540,000 using the phone of his friend who had offered the phone to him to access Facebook. Lanre had accessed his friend's PIN and used it to withdraw the money. Operatives of the EFCC, thereafter, located and arrested him in Lagos.

He was first arraigned on July 8, 2019 on a two-count charge to which he pleaded “not guilty”. However, realizing the strength of the evidence gathered against him, he approached the EFCC for a plea bargain, which led to him being re-arraigned on an amended charge to which he pleaded “guilty”.

The amended charge reads: “That you, Hammed Folorunsho Lanre, sometimes around 29th, May 2019, at Ilorin, within the judicial division of the High Court, committed theft by taking dishonestly, money belonging to Hammed Muritala when you transferred the gross sum of N540,000 via his mobile phone, from Stanbic Ibtc into your bet9ja pay stack website account without his consent and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 286 of the Penal Code Law and punishable under Section 287 of the Penal Code Law.”

Thereafter, Justice Abdulgafar sentenced him to one year in prison to commence from May 30, 2019, the day he was arrested.
