MsFaith: You are missing the point. Melanin protects your skin from the sun's UV. Oyibo people made sunscreens to protect their body because they lack melanin. Why do you think you get darker when you have prolonged exposure to the sun? Unlike oyibo people (including albinos) who get sunburned, your body produces more melanin to shore up protection. It's a feedback mechanism. Have you ever seen a sunburned black person? |

A black person has no need for a sunscreen, you have melanin. Stop sharing oyibo ideas hook line and sinker!!!! |

Ok, here are my recommendations for those who don't have a lot of money to spend on fragrances. Those who are ok with just a bottle at a time. What you need is a flexible, all-weather, and all occasion fragrance. Something that isn't very bold and completely inoffensive. I will provide a list (from my personal experience) of both high-end (expensive) and more affordable ones. It's important to note that the price of a fragrance doesn't always correlate with quality. For example, Tom Ford's oud wood and black orchid both smell like crap (in my opinion) but they cost an arm. So, even though I think my list here is solid, I still encourage you to try fragrances (if you have access to testers) out before you purchase them. Spray them on your skin and wear it throughout the day to experience how it evolves and decide how you feel about it. Expensive Bleu the channel, Allure Homme sport (Chanel), Aventus (Creed), Green Irish tweed (creed) More affordable Light blue intense(D&G), Dior sauvage EDT (don't waste your money on the EDP or Le Parfum versions), Prada L'homme, Acqua di gio profumo (Giorgio Armani). For women (based on my experience shopping for my wife) Light blue intense (D&G...for women), Cocoa mademoiselle (Chanel), Chanel chance (the green version) You can blind buy any of these fragrances..they are all champs and meet the criteria I described above. However, Value for money, If I were asked to pick just one from the list, I'll go for Dior sauvage (men), and Light blue intense (women) 1 Like 1 Share |

Macsjebs: Yes, not based in naija. But I must confess, I have no idea how to verify authenticity using serial numbers (and I wonder if that can be manipulated?)..so I just make sure to buy directly from the manufacturers, duty free at international airports, or well known discounters like fragrancenet.com. Perhaps you can enlighten us on how to verify authenticity? |

Macsjebs: Where do you get your supplies from? I mean what retailers do you buy from? I am worried sick about authenticity. I once bought fake Creed Aventus from Amazon. Thankfully it was just 10 ml testers |

I’m opening this thread to help people make good choices about fragrances. Each time I fly in Nigeria, I am often irritated (if not suffocated) by ‘ugly’ smells from people. Most of these people dress expensively, so I figure if they had a better guide, they’ll wear appropriate and inoffensive fragrances. Let’s help people spend their money right. I hope other fragrance experts will come on board to save our country from bad odor! ![]() ![]() The main objectives of this thread are to; - Provide a platform for fragrance enthusiasts to chat about a shared interest - Help people make the budget-specific right fragrance choice (for personal use or gift items) - Provide info on the best places to purchase genuine fragrances - Answer any questions about fragrances. NB: This thread will focus on designers and niche fragrances. Please tell us about your favorite designer/niche fragrances…introduce us to your collection. You can mention the specific fragrances or just their brands if you own a huge collection. I’ll start… Fragrances are the most important part of my dressing. I wear different fragrances for different occasions (club/bar, date nights, office, gym etc) so I have quite a sizeable collection. I currently own more than 30 bottles of designers and niche fragrances (ranging from 10 – 150 mls) so I am only going to list the brands and then follow that up with my top 10. Brands in my collection Christian Dior (including collections from Maison Dior) Jean Paul Gaultier Parfums De Marly Amouage Viktor and Rolf Dolce and Gabbana Muggler Creed Giorgio Armani Tom Ford YSL BVGLARI Versace Davidoff Paco rabanne Now here’s my top 10 (In no particular order) - Spice Bomb extreme (Viktor and Rolf) - Green Irish tweed (creed) - Aventus (creed) - Tobacco oud by Tom ford (my wife has banned me from wearing this when she’s not with me. Says it’s too sexy!) - Acqua di gio profumo (Giorgio Armani) - Light blue intense (Dolce and Gabbana) - Dior Sauvage EDT (Christian Dior) - Amber nuit (Maison Dior) - La nuit de l’homme (YSL) - L’homme (Pada) I currently live in the US so these fragrances work in different climatic conditions…summer, winter etc. However, I visit naija every year, sometimes up to 3 times. Whenever I am visiting naija, I only bring 5 fragrances that are suited for high heat. Here’s my naija fragrances Light blue intense, Green Irish tweed, Acqua di gio profumo, Dior Sauvage EDT and La nuit de l’homme. Oya o, tell us about your collection or your favorite fragrances. Those who have questions, ngwa fire away. In trying to answer your questions, we'll provide a lot of information that will ultimately make this thread 'a guide to choosing the right fragrance.' |

I traveled all over the southeast and south south last week (Benin to ph to calabar to Obudu to Ikom to Abakaliki to Enugu to Onitsha to Asaba and back to Benin). Here are the few hiccups I ran into; East west road got blocked by Ijaw youths (apparently, their chairman was arrested), so we had to spend a night in Yenegoa. Curfew in ph starts at 8pm. Do not enter after that Ph to Uyo was smooth but uyo to calabar is a death trap...the road is all holes. I got delayed by bad road and got to odukpani junction (ie entrance to calabar) past their Curfew time of 10 pm and wasn't let into the city by military people. Spent the night there in my car...it was party with other travelers. Beer, fries, pepper soup, and ofcourse mosquitoes. The rest of the trip was uneventful until we got to Ebonyi. At the checkpoints in Ebonyi, the people traveling with me were made to come down from the vehicle and walk across. NB: the most remarkable thing I noticed was the significantly reduced number of checkpoints in the southeast. This is the first time in my life to travel 10km in the southeast without seeing a police checkpoint. It was all so exciting!! 1 Like |

Zeekyee: Thanks for caring. You are mostly right except with the suggestion that somehow our national image is to blame for all this.It has very little to do with our national image. South American countries are leaders in drug trafficking but other countries do not humiliate their citizens in this manner. We are cursed with evil and idiotic 'leaders'. Imagine a country still debating ranching vs nomadic cattle herding. |

I was denied visa to Thailand! Thailand of all places. I had important conference and was told I needed a drug clearance certificate from NDLEA. I was in Naija for a few months so I paid a lot of money to apply for this stupid certificate in Portharcourt. At some point, I was invited by NDLEA to Lagos for interview. The entire process took at least 2 grueling months. Fast forward to a few weeks later when went to Washington DC to apply/interview for the Thai visa. I was told by an unsmiling Thai woman that the certificate I had with me needed endorsement by the Thai embassy in Abuja! I've never been more angry in my life. I told the woman, 'it's your people...put a call to your embassy in Abuja and have them verify..'. The woman said they have no connection whatsoever with their Abuja embassy. I sent a friend to the Thai embassy in Abuja but the was bounced at the gate because 'the person responsible for endorsing NDLEA certificates was on a 2 weeks vacation'. I was initially angry with the Thai people until I was told that it was my country Nigeria that requested for these Asian countries to request NDLEA certificates from naija citizens. It was supposed to be the most important conference in my career. I was funded by the US military and was supposed to speak in 2 different meetings. Thanks to Skype, I was able to speak in one remotely. It saddens me that there's no hope for Nigeria because we are lead by half educated idiots at every level. 11 Likes |

The Democratic Governor of Minnesota paused his press conference to listen and interact with a woman who interrupted him. This is a country where they understand the power of an ordinary person's vote. Amaubiri-Eluama-Uru Ring Road, Lokpaukwu, Umuchieze is my village. Thunder will visit this man for saying his contractors have delivered these roads. If this criminal ends up becoming president, I will conclude that all hope is lost and will stay away completely from this country |

The Future For Nature Foundation supports young, inspiring natural leaders that fight uphill battles for the conservation of species in Venezuela, Nigeria and Bolivia with €50.000. Out of one hundred and twenty-four candidates from all over the world, three inspiring natural leaders in nature conservation were chosen to be this year’s winners of the Future For Nature Award. The Nigerian Iroro Tanshi (35 years old) rediscovered a population of the Short-tailed Roundleaf bat in Nigeria (last seen 45 years ago) and is on a mission to protect the last known roost that is under threat of fruit bat hunting and wildfires. Her ‘Zero Wildfire Campaign’ already resulted in zero wildfire reports in 2019 during the dry season. The Dutch Tjalle Boorsma (35 years old) left his homeland to stop the decline of Bolivia’s most threatened birds, the Blue-throated Macaw. He discovered their previously unknown nesting sites and gained crucial information for designing a conservation programme for these amazing birds. These three nature conservation heroes will receive the Future For Nature Award on May 8th 2020 in Royal Burgers’ Zoo, the Netherlands.
