Phones / Re: Wahala De Nigeria O.the Way Megabytes For Phone De Go by Nawaya: 1:22am On Jun 07
jmoore:
You are getting what you consume. You watch too many videos, spend most of your time on phones. Why won't the data consumption increase?

I honestly wish you knew what you were talking about, but it doesn't look or sound way, sadly.

I don't know if your goal here, is to defend what is clearly indefensible, but I will tell you about my experience, last week, and you can argue back and say I am lying, but I won't be surprised at that.

Now, I had something to do in Cotonou, on 27th May, which is only a few days ago. I decided to roam my number for the journey. I was offered three roaming options by MTN and I chose the one for N10,000. That option was supposed to come with unlimited calls to Nigeria as well as within Benin Republic. They did make it clear that there was a "fair use policy" around that. This bundle also included a 1gb data offer. So, I paid for the bundle and took a screenshot of both the bundle offer and confirmation of payment.

When I arrived in Cotonou on the 27th of May, I could not use or access the roaming bundle, even though my phone had been set to roam automatically. Instead of using my roaming credit, MTN decided to wipe out the credit from my main balance for a quick to Nigeria. It turned out that they had charged me N400 for every 48 seconds. Yes, N400 for less than a minute. Fortunately, I have the MTN app on my phone, and I decided to contact customer service, using the app. I was then informed that I couldn't use the app because, according to MTN, I did not have sufficient data to open the app and view my transactions. What a nice surprise ! So, what happened to the 1gb of data that was supposed be included in the roaming package that I had paid for?

I was eventually able to open the MTN app by connecting to my hotel WiFi and contacted an agent who "apologised" for the inconvenience, but did not restore the 1gb of data. The agent then activated my subscription from his side and instead of the promised "unlimited" calls with fair use, I was told that my N10,000 subscription would only entitle me to 50 minutes of call for 7 days !

I had to tell my story here because Nigeria is overrun with people like you who see it as their job to defend the corruption that is plaguing the country and making it unliveable to millions of hard-working vulnerable people.

My advice to you is that you don't have to have an opinion on every subject, especially when you know nothing about what's being discussed. You'll just end up looking quite silly.

Properties / Re: 5-inch Blocks For A Bungalow by Nawaya: 8:32pm On Dec 15, 2016
mufutau55:

Your Architect is right... use those 5 inch blocks for your fence if you haven't done the fence.
For bungalow with or without pillars I always prefer 9 inch hollow block on the outside wall and may be 6 inch inside for demarcations, but if you can go all the way with 9 inch hollow block it will be superb.
Many people also uses 6inch hollow blocks for bungalow but I personally prefer 9 inch blocks.
Just my unprofessional opinion.

Hajji M.

Thanks, Hajji, for that quick and kind response. If I understand your point, 5 inch blocks would be unsuitable even for the internal walls, right?
Properties / 5-inch Blocks For A Bungalow by Nawaya: 7:56pm On Dec 15, 2016
Dear Naira Landers,

I urgently seek your considered and much-valued opinions on the practicality of building a house with 5-inch blocks.

I had this idea to develop a piece of land in Benin, some months ago, and completely left the block-making to a "trusted"and supposedly knowledgeable relative. Long story short, I ended up with about 4,000 blocks, all of 5 inch depth or thickness.

Now it's time to start the actual build, an architect tells me that using 5-inch blocks for the build would NOT make for a structurally sound building. Apparently, the 5 inch blocks are only good for fence-making.

I wonder if I could buy some 9 inch blocks for the footing and up to the DPC and then carrying on with the 5 inch blocks. No, I'm not building a two storey house - just a bungalow for family dwelling.

Your considered advice and opinions are welcome.
Properties / Re: Cost Of Building A 5 Bedroom Bungalow In Benin-city. by Nawaya: 1:36pm On Jan 03, 2012
To VITODORADO who started this thread, can I just say how impressed I am with your efforts. This thread is the most thrilling stuff I've read in ages!! I only stumbled on it this morning while searching for land to buy in Benin. I just have to commend your determination to see this project through and, what's more? For making out the time to send regular updates and responses at the requests of other posters !

I am planning on starting a slightly smaller project than yours this year. However, I do not have all the cash to start and finish in one go. So, I am going to build in phases and it would be self-build for the most part. For my project, I intend to utilise the much overlooked 'red soil' or lateritic soil that predominates the landscape in Edo State. I will be building with the little-explored interlocking blocks for ease of construction and speed of work which should, hopefully, translate into some good savings.

Although, my approach to this project might seem radically different to yours, there is a lot that I have gained from following your thread. It is just nice to know and quite re-assuring that normal, hard-working fellas can still put up buildings to call their own with some determination.

I shall continue to follow this this thread until your project is completed. I really wish you well with it and I hope that God grants you the good health to enjoy that massive concrete 'fruit of your labour' ! lol !!

Go on, son, you can do it !!! Just remember not to let others distract you with irrelevant suggestions about the finishing on your property.
First of all, my honest opinion is that you could have saved a fair bit by not including a parapet in your original plan. They are not necessary, as a classy finish can still be achieved with a good roof design. Second, you DON'T NEED that POP thingy idea that your builder is trying to sell to you. I have seen loads of them in Nigeria and, quite frankly, I think they are horrible and just make an otherwise good building look tacky. I'm not sure if that is due to poor workmanship or simply due to owners' poor tastes in motifs. Maybe a bit of both actually. But, then again, one man's kpomo is another man's tonzo. What do I know ?!

Have fun with your project. Oooh, man, I'm just getting too excited here for you. No forget to keep my GULDER for me ooh. Because I go come Naija to drink and wash that house for you !!!

Could I have a contact number please? I would like a private chat at some point later. Please send it to:   omoruyi2008@hotmail.co.uk

Autos / Re: 2008 Vw Jetta For Sale by Nawaya: 7:21pm On May 25, 2010
Hi,

Here is the requested VIN: 3VWRM71K38M165731. You may notice in the car check report that the car had been previously involved in what was a minor accident. It's all been fixed and ready to go. It is on the basis of its salvage title that the car is going for the current asking price.
I am not making any great profit here. When you convert the asking price to US$, and find out how much a 2008 Jetta sells for in the US, you might just appreciate my sincerity.
However, I am still open to sensible offers on price.

Thanks for looking in.

Hello !

I have a very clean MACK 'R' MODEL truck for sale. Expected time of arrival in Lagos is end of May.
I have attached some photos for your consideration. This is a 1972 truck but you wouldn't guess it from the pictures. The previous owner never really used it for any heavy work. In fact it was used more as a show truck ! The interior and exterior of the truck attest to this. NEW ENGINE FITTED 5 YEARS AGO !!!
Please get in touch if interested. E-mail addy is:      tulatrades@yahoo.com

Regards, everyone !!!
