Hi Jubrin the original topic is actually most not all Africans. But don’t forget Muslims do some form of socials days after burial.

Growing up, we looked forward to Sundays and Christmas for rice.

We looked forward to it as a bride-to-be her wedding.

The fad was such that friends would discuss the type of rice they ate in their homes. It was very common among school children. It was a yardstick for wealth as people do with exotic items.

Back in the day, if you do not have rice on Sunday, you would pray that your friends do not visit you because, you would be the topic at school the next day.

I remembered seeing a woman peeling yam on Christmas evening, that sight remained with me till today because it was severely odd. Instantly I concluded she was poor because that day was meant for rice. That also is changing now because I now make pounded yam on Christmas days which my family and friends find extremely exotic.

Rice is nowadays readily available,relatively affordable and can easily be the most popular food in Nigeria.

Set up burial committee made up of the best funeral planners within and outside the country.
He/She may cancel most meetings on account of the parent’s death.
Governance may stop.
He may work from home. Yes from home!
Sycophants will take over the newspapers, dishing out obituary publications, in praise of the dead.
Airwave litters with sympathy to the leader from contractors and potential contractors.
Various aso-ebi (uniforms) will emerge for the funeral.
Contracts will be awarded for plates, canopies, spoons, basmati rice, cows, etc.
Souvenirs like the latest iPhone, Rolex wrist watches et al, will be imported and customized.
Roads to the village of the deceased will be constructed and street lights installed before the event.
Public Holiday may be declared in the State or Local government.
Schools will shut down during the burial.
Dignitaries from all over will be invited.
Half of the entire securities will be deployed during the burial. Robbers and bandits will feast elsewhere as they know securities is skeletal.
Golden caskets will be used for the burial
Late Mama or Papa’s remembrance will hold yearly with half of the resources used for the burial.
