An Inspector and five sergeants attached to the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike have been dismissed by the Nigeria Police Force. The affected police personnel, ex-Inspector Eyong Victor, ex-Sgts. Peter Ekpo, Oguni Goodluck, Orji Nwoke, Okpe Ezekiel and Tanko Akor were dismissed over alleged misuse of fire arms during the just concluded legislative rerun in the state. The dismissed operatives were said to have disobeyed senior officers by preventing officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from moving election results of Emouha polling unit to the appropriate collation centre, an action that contravenes the provisions of Force Order 237. Parading the ex-police officers on Friday in Abuja, the Force spokesperson, Donald Awunah said the behaviour of the recalcitrant operatives was a breach of directive and its unacceptable. According to Awunah, the recalcitrant operatives in the course of discreet investigations were found to have disrespected directives, compromised and engaged in unprofessional acts. He said, “These aforementioned police personnel while in the convoy of the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike on the date of election on December 10, 2016 misused the firearms in their possession contrary to the provisions of Force Order 237. “The personnel became overzealous, took laws into their hands and opened fire, causing panic in the crowd. “They joined in storming the Port Harcourt City Council Secretariat and prevented the movement of election results of Emouha polling unit to the appropriate collation centre designated by INEC, in flagrant disregard and disobedience to senior police officers present at the venue. “They will be prosecuted under the Electoral Act to serve as a deterrent to others. “Their actions are capable of bringing the entire Nigeria Police Force to disrepute and portray the Force in a very bad light as a lawless organization not guided by the rule of law.” http://dailypost.ng/2017/01/06/breaking-police-fire-six-men-attached-governor-wike/

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has maintained that the rumours making the rounds in the media that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari was planning to Islamise Nigeria was untrue. He called on Nigerians to shun such report, saying that there was no plan to convert the country to Islamic state. Recall that few weeks ago, a group known as the Igbo Leaders of Thought accused President Muhammadu Buhari of sponsoring Fulani herdsmen to kill Nigerians because of his pursuit to Islamise the country. But speaking when members of the Student Christian Movement of Nigeria (SCM) paid a courtesy visit to him in his office in Abuja, Osinbajo said Nigerians should disregard such rumour, declaring that “Nigeria can’t be Islamised”. He further enjoined religious bodies to channel their energies towards proffering panacea to the numerous challenges facing the country. While noting that the opportunities were far much more now than they were in the past, Osinbajo stressed the need for young people to take responsibility for their future and be creative. Earlier, the National President of SCM, Rev, Eric Ighalo, lauded the government for its social interventions such as the N-Power initiative and the conditional transfer scheme. Ighalo expressed the willingness of the body to partner with government in several areas including serving as government ambassadors in their constituencies. http://dailypost.ng/2017/01/06/osinbajo-speaks-alleged-plans-islamise-nigeria/ Lalasticlala, Mynd44

It is just one day since Donald Trump was elected President - but thousands of furious liberals are already plotting ways to remove him from office. Within hours of the Republican's unexpected win over Hillary Clinton, people were calling for him to be impeached over claims of sexual abuse, fraud and racketeering. Online searches for 'How to impeach a president' surged hours after the result, with the question seeing a 4,850 per cent rise on Google. One of the seven petitions to contest his presidency amassed more than 13,322 signatures in a matter of hours as furious protests across the US intensified. A number of professors have thrown their weight behind the movement, saying there is a 'strong case' to impeach Trump and stop him from taking the top job. Speaking on Newsnight on Wednesday, English historian Simon Schama said: 'It is not a moment for calm, it is a moment for contesting what seems to be a very dangerous point in American history. 'George Washington warned against despotism and that's what we're facing.' University of Utah Law professor Christopher Peterson said he found evidence to charge Trump with fraud and racketeering - felonies within state and federal law. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3923226/Plot-impeach-President-Trump-begun.html?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490

The traditional ruler of Uromi in Edo State, the Ojuromi of Uromi, Anselm Eidenojie II, has dragged Governor Adams Oshiomhole, and eleven others to court over his suspension for one year. The state government had earlier suspended the monarch for seven days for allegedly assaulting one Betty Okoebor during the September 28 governorship election in Esan North-East Local Government Area. The government had directed him to apologise to the woman within the period of the seven-day suspension or risk dethronement. But in another twist, the state executive council, in a letter dated November 4, 2016, and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, extended the traditional ruler’s suspension to one year. It also unrobed him of all the privileges and rights of the Ojuromi of Uromi, citing Section 28(1) of the Traditional Rulers and Chiefs Law (1979), adding that his remuneration from the five per cent monthly allocation to the local government shall be appropriated and donated to orphanages during the period. But the traditional ruler, through his counsel, Benjamin Iruobe, urged the court to declare that the action of the governor (second respondent) amounted to recklessness and abuse of office, was unconstitutional, unlawful, actionable and without a just cause. Other respondents in the suit are the state Commissioner of Police, Assistant Inspector-General of Police (Zone 5); the Inspector-General of Police, the Nigeria Police Force, one Betty Okoebor and one Matthew Okoebor. The plaintiff, in the suit instituted in pursuance to Order Two and Four of the Fundamental Rights Procedure Rules, 2009, under the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, among others, requested an order of the court for the enforcement of his fundamental rights under the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in terms of the relief sought in the statement in support of his application. The suspended monarch also prayed the court to order that the sum of N1bn be paid to him as compensation for damages against the respondents jointly and severally and as a reparation for the alleged assault, torture, arrest, detention and harassment against him in the course of their alleged unlawful acts. http://dailypost.ng/2016/11/09/traditional-ruler-sues-oshiomhole-suspension-demands-n1bn/ 1 Like

Renowned Nollywood actress, Mercy Johnson-Okojie, has shared her journey to stardom, as she recalled how N50, 000 once meant the world to her. The mother of three said she ventured into the movie industry after she initially failed her JAMB exams. Mercy made this known in a recently released video autobiography on her youtube channel, REALMJO. “Things weren’t extremely rosy, so I know what it means to be hungry. I know what it means to lack something. And I know what it means to work hard to achieve something. “I agreed to act for free in the ‘Maid’ but after the movie which brought me to limelight, the EP thought I did a great job so he gave me N50, 000. “I held the money like; you will have to kill me to take it away from me. “It meant a lot, it was like a Messiah at that point in cash. “So, there goes my biggest phobia, which is going back to nothing, the fear of going back to my humble beginnings.” http://dailypost.ng/2016/11/04/dread-going-back-poverty-bitter-experience-mercy-johnson/
