Programming / Re: What Is The Future Of Nigeria's Software Industry? by NET1(m): 12:05pm On Aug 02, 2011
I'm tired of hearing about the sorry state of our industry. Please, what can we do? Is there NOT a remedy for the decline we have seen? Should we sit idly by, complain and watch things go awfully worse?

Please I am asking this because I also feel the same issues that have been raised here, but I dont know if I can be of help to our industry. If anyone can come up with SOLUTIONS, I think that'll be good enough.

why waste time writing the code?

Microsoft Word already has a tool for that. If you're using Word 2007, here's what to do:

I don't think you came to us. I work for Afrintech nigeria. We're based in Port Harcourt.

From your post, I have the feeling you are good. Please call me. Maybe, we can do a partnership or something on some projects and applications we're currently developing.

I dont think this is hard to do. In my estimate, you only need a few millions to start.

We have been planning on this business for the past 3 years and we are starting it in January 2012. What a coincidence to see people discuss it here!

This, I believe is one major reason our Tertiary Institutions keep churning out half-baked graduates every year. People are just unwilling to do things by themselves. They instead prefer easy ways out.

In the long run, they only depend on paid jobs to earn a living, 'cos most of them don't might not know what to do. Even when companies employ such graduates, the companies would still have to outsource most of their critical jobs, because their in-house IT staff are just incompetent.

Guy, listen to Sylvan and do as he has advised you to.

Life does not end at the University. What happens when you do not have the skills to find or create a job for yourself after you have left school?

GoodMuyis:

Contact RIM here >> http://www.rim.com/company/contact/

. OR
South Africa
http://www.rim.com/company/maps/southafrica.shtml

for the rest try to change your search query to: "the company's name" contact
for example Kaspersky contact

try it for all youi should get 80% +ve answer

Thanks brother,

However, it appears RIM only has an African office in SA. Anyway, we might just write their office in SA, and see if they refer us to anywhere in Nigeria.

PS: If anyone has details of any of the other firms, please let us know.

Thank you guys,

Hello everybody!

Can anyone here please give me the office locations of these companies in Nigeria.

Blackberry (RIM)
ORACLE
Norton (Symantec)
Kaspersky
Mastercard
ESET
E-Scan

My company wants to write them letters, but we do not know where to address them. We have surfed the Internet to search out their office addresses to no avail.

If you know where these companies operate, please let me know.

Thanks.

can i ask a very fundamental question?

What is the grand objective of this? I ask this because I have seen (even here on NL) some other guys initiate similar projects which in my opinion did not provide any effects. There was a similar thread started by one elomi who suggested we have a programmers' conference. To my utter amazement, only about 2 people (which includes me) actually indicated interest in the project. The rest others only submitted their names and even cared less about the whole thing.

There was also one other guy who initiated a game development conference, but I really cannot say that the project has succeeded. In all of this, all I see is a common trend where people just submit their names and skill set, but if there are no clear cut objectives, the whole thing just dies off.

Please, I am not trying to dissuade you from carrying on this cause. In actual fact, I think it's noble, however there are certain issues that you (the initiator of this project) have to personally solve first before bringing it to the public. I don't want this to be another failed nairaland Technology project.

Can you please answer the following questions:

1. What is the real objective of this project?

2. Is this going to be a conference or an exhibition? If other, please specify_______________________

3. Who are your target audience?

4. Just how do you want to get sponsorship for this project?

5. Other questions (or issues) might bother on other Management strategies for this kinda project.

Thank you,
Joshua

collins465:

you guys are really funny. you don't want to be realistic for once. you want to do everything online in this country? with which ISP?
yes! they claim to have 3G while they don't and so? now that you know what will you do about it?
you have to tell your self the truth in order to enjoy and appreciate what your country have at the moment.
where i stay GLO and VISA work fine for me. in my office (Cyber cafe) i can only download heavily when there are no customers, meaning am the only one pulling the whole C-band bandwidth (dedicated) which of course will be very fast because am the only one using it.
talking of my GLO and VISA, i use my glo only when i just want to browse at home, email, Facebook, twitter, research, download small eBooks and small online activities but once i want to download at home, i use my VISA evdo (esp midnight). I'll just click download then go and sleep till morning.
For now i can't only but say that we are yet to get there. hope you have other means of income? while you keep trying your online video business.

what are you talking about? Appreciate what? - Mediocrity or Incompetence? There are some businesses that require steady internet connection that cannot survive in Nigeria because of the ineffectiveness of our ISPs and you are saying people should be quiet about this and just swallow this rubbish?

Now I know I'm not the only who has been in this kinda situation, Thank God I'm out of it now. Gosh! the feeling is terrible.

Trust me, I've been there before. Other peeps see you as a strong and i-know-what-i-want person, but before this guy, you dont have control over yourself. You always wanna please him and make him see why you are right for him, lol, Can I tell you the truth? This is why the guy got fed up with you.

Babe, do you want the honest truth? That dude does not want you intimate anymore.

Also, If anybody tells you there is a straight formula to wriggle out of this, it's a lie.

Like they: "TIME HEALS ALL WOUNDS". Yes, even self-inflicted wounds. Just give it time, you'll get over it. However, my fear is that as a woman, you may not have as much tyme as you need to get over it.

Since you say you've not done any large projects, why not try smaller projects, or better still working in collaboration with more experienced programmers.

There's a similar thread somewhere in the Romance section by one guy TAI2 on how to maintain control on women. Both threads have nuggets of truth for folks who always or regularly suck up with women.
