The Independent National Electoral Commission says it stands by its statement that the All Progressives Congress will not field candidates for the 2019 general elections in Zamfara. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged that the Presidency has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to carry out a sting operation to arrest and detain the outgoing governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, indefinitely. The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were on collision course yesterday as the ruling party rejected the electoral body and rejected its disqualification from participation in the 2019 general elections in Zamfara State. The INEC had disqualified the APC from presenting candidates for the impending general elections following the failure of the party to conduct primaries within stipulated time. By INEC guidelines all primaries were to have been held by last Sunday and lists of candidates submitted to it by October 18, 2018. The Ekiti State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC), has advised outgoing Governor Ayo Fayose to look elsewhere for political sanctuary, should he jump out of the PDP. Opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had admitted it made some mistakes in the way it approached the 2015 presidential election. It paid dearly for it. Has the party learn any lesson? Is the party likely to repeat the same mistake again as it gets set to elect its presidential candidate for the 2019 contest today? It seems only time will tell. One thing is however certain, and that is, how the 12 presidential aspirants manage their personal ambitions will go a long way to determine the party’s fortune in next year’s presidential contest. A renowned oil merchant, Mr Uche Ogah, on Wednesday emerged the winner of a keenly contested governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia. The Nigerian Bar Association said the police appeared compromised during the conduct of the September 27 supplementary governorship election in Osun State. In the report by its ad-hoc committee on the rerun, the association said the police refused to question the activities of about “fierce-looking me who invaded the area at Orolu” where part of the supplementary took place.
