Family / Re: Traditional, Religious Or Court Wedding: Best Form Of Marriage by ngosayogie(m): 2:44pm On Jul 05, 2013 |
Let's say tonnes of people find themselves i this situation and so they decide to resolve it by doing both (Church and traditional or court and traditional). In our modern age, tradition is turning into something that is more moral rather than being legally binding. So if you do a traditional marriage and no registry, then in the eyes of the law, you are not married...let's say something comes up latter in life and you need to prove your marriage or something, then traditional marriage would not really hold much ground...but because of our traditional heritage, the bride's parents would likely want you to have one (That's if they don't mind, although in rare cases). Church weddings are legally binding just like court weddings because the couples to be need to fulfill legal requirements first. In the days of old what our forefathers did were just their normal weddings which we now come to know as traditional weddings today because then the laws of the 1 Like |

Business / Anonymous Bidder Pays $610,000 For Coffee With Apple's Tim Cook by ngosayogie(m): 10:15pm On May 14, 2013 |
Source: http://www.oorgu.com/2013/05/anonymous-bidder-pays-610000-for-coffee.html#more Somebody really, really wants to get an audience with Apple CEO Tim Cook. An anonymous bidder paid $610,000 to chat over coffee with Apple's chief executive, according to online-auction site Charity Buzz, which began accepting bids about three weeks ago. Tuesday's winning bid came only several minutes before the auction closed at 4 pm ET. The auction site had valued the meeting with Cook at $50,000. Proceeds from the auction will go to The RFK Center for Justice and Human Rights, an international nonprofit founded as a memorial to Robert F. Kennedy by his family and friends. The auction saw 86 bids, many of them from companies that do business (or want to do business) with Apple. The coffee chat will happen at Apple's Cupertino, California, headquarters. The winner may bring along one guest. Travel and lodging for the visit, which will last between 30 minutes and an hour, are not covered. Visitors will be required to sign a nondisclosure agreement and are subject to a security screening. Also, they can't liveblog or tweet during their meeting. The move fits in with the more open public persona Cook has adopted since replacing late Apple CEO and co-founder Steve Jobs. In the past 18 months Cook has met with members of Congress on Capitol Hill and toured factories in China that make Apple products. By some measures, a $600,000 coffee meeting with the chief of the world's leading tech company might be a bargain. An anonymous bidder paid $3.4 million last year for lunch with star investor Warren Buffett. |
Celebrities / 10 Fun Facts About Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg by ngosayogie(m): 10:05pm On May 14, 2013 |
Source: http://www.oorgu.com/2013/05/10-fun-facts-about-facebooks-mark.html#more Tuesday is Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg's birthday. He's 29. If that seems insanely young for a billionaire, remember that he co-founded Facebook when he was a teenager. Zuckerberg has a lot to celebrate. He's amassed a fortune, inspired one of every seven people on the planet to use his product and changed how the world communicates -- all before age 30. By comparison, when they were 29, Steve Jobs launched the Macintosh computer and Bill Gates was readying the first retail version of Microsoft Windows. And most of the rest of us were just struggling to pay the rent. So happy birthday to Zuck! To mark the occasion, we collected these 10 random facts about the tech wunderkind: Zuckerberg explains Facebook Homeuckerberg forms non-profit 1. Zuckerberg suffers from red-green colorblindness and sees the color blue best, which is why blue dominates Facebook's color scheme. 2. AOL and Microsoft tried to recruit him when he was in high school after he created Synapse, a program that used artificial intelligence to learn users' music-listening habits. 3. He wears the same gray Facebook T-shirt almost every day because he's busy and it saves him time in the morning. 4. Despite Zuckerberg's casual wardrobe, he said he wore a tie every day in 2009 to show that Facebook was serious about growing in the face of the global recession. 5. He is a vegetarian and once said he will only eat meat if he has killed the animal himself. But among his "likes" on his Facebook page are McDonalds and In-N-Out Burger. 6. He has amassed 220,000 Twitter followers despite the fact that he's only tweeted 19 times in four years, and not once in 15 months. 7. In October 2010, Zuckerberg took a bunch of Facebook staffers to a public theater to see "The Social Network," the movie about the founding of Facebook. In public comments afterward, he criticized the film's portrayal of him as someone who invented Facebook to gain social status. 8. He owns a Hungarian sheepdog named Beast, who has a Facebook page with 1.5 million fans. 9. He took some heat last year for giving his wife, Priscilla Chan, a ruby wedding ring that jewelers valued at about $25,000 even though he was worth about $19 billion at the time. 10. If you type @[4:0] in a Facebook comment window and hit enter, his name will appear. |

Religion / Communal Violence Kills At Least 27 In Central Nigeria by ngosayogie(m): 4:35pm On Mar 28, 2013 |
Source: http://ngsblogg..com/2013/03/communal-violence-kills-at-least-27-in.html Clashes between rival ethnic groups in central Nigeria killed at least 27 people on Wednesday, witnesses said, in a region straddling the country's largely Christian south and mostly Muslim north that is prone to civil unrest. Witnesses said armed Fulani herdsmen attacked the villages of Da Jak and Attakar in Plateau state in the early hours, spraying residents with automatic gunfire and torching houses. "They came at night and overran the village. They were shooting people, just murdering, and burned down the houses," villager Dung Sati told Reuters. "Many of my kinsman have stayed away because they are homeless now." On his return he counted 27 bodies, he said. Another witness who fled the scene of the attack, Pam Samuel, said by telephone there were 28 bodies when he came back. The military declined to comment, but a Plateau state legislator, Daniel Dem, told Reuters dozens had been killed. Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation and top oil producer, has a roughly equal Christian-Muslim population and more than 200 ethnic groups who mostly live side by side in peace. But conflict sometimes flares up in Plateau and other parts of the "Middle Belt." Plateau state in particular has suffered for decades from violence linked to land disputes between the semi-nomadic, cattle-herding Fulani and settled Berom farmers. Violence in Plateau can quickly escalate—more than 50 people were killed inside a week in September 2011, and hundreds died earlier that year. The unrest is unrelated to the Islamist insurgency raging in Nigeria's north, although Islamist militant group Boko Haram sometimes bombs churches in Plateau with the apparent aim of stoking ethnic and religious tensions. 1 Like |
Religion / How Robert Jeffress Justifies $130 Million Church Campus by ngosayogie(m): 4:28pm On Mar 28, 2013 |
Source: http://ngsblogg..com/2013/03/how-robert-jeffress-justifies-130_15.html Three years after imploding more than 1 million square feet of building space downtown, First Baptist Church of Dallas, led by nationally known pastor Dr. Robert Jeffress, has completed the largest Protestant church building campaign in modern history, opening its new state-of-the-art $130 million campus on Easter Sunday, March 31. The new facilities feature the newest technological advances for any church, providing a unique worship experience. A new 3,000-seat Worship Center, located next to the historic landmark 122-year-old sanctuary, includes a 150-foot-wide IMAX-quality video wall stretching more than two-thirds the width of the auditorium. It incorporates seven high-definition projectors blended together, making it one of the largest viewing screens in any church in the world. Additionally, wood bands along the walls surrounding the Worship Center contain LED strips that can be programmed to millions of different colors, creating dramatic ambient lighting to supplement and enhance any platform program. “Our dream was to create a spiritual oasis in the middle of downtown Dallas,” said Jeffress, pastor of First Baptist Dallas. “We incorporated some of the newest technology available to offer an interactive worship opportunity unlike any other. In addition, though able to seat thousands of people, the Worship Center still provides an intimate church feeling, rather than a convention center experience.” Connected to the Worship Center via a glass sky bridge is the five-story Horner Family Center, featuring themed children’s and youth classrooms, a gymnasium, three age-appropriate indoor playgrounds and a seven-story parking garage. A high-impact cross-tower and fountain, which was lit for the first time March 24, are surrounded by three-quarters of an acre of public community space. The fountain serves as the grand entrance to the new campus, featuring a stainless steel cross atop a pedestal rising 68 feet high. Surrounding the tower is a shallow water pool containing a heated baptistery as well as eight water canons and 21 undulating titan water jets. Inscribed along the edge of the fountain’s pool is a Scripture text from John 4:14, stating, “Whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.” Several custom orchestral scores of anthems and spiritual songs accompany the programmed flow of the cascading water. “Our church felt a need to expand and improve the campus in order to fulfill our ministry calling,” Jeffress said. “In these tough economic times, we wanted to use our gifts to build a church that provides spiritual growth and healing while seeking to reflect the splendor and majesty of God. First Baptist remains committed to equipping individuals to worship, serve and influence the community, the city and the world for Christ.” First Baptist first embarked on the now completed building campaign in 2009, during the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. Though the popular trend among many churches is to acquire and retrofit unused buildings or open smaller, satellite campuses in the suburbs, First Baptist chose to remain in the heart of Dallas--a place where it has been located since its founding in 1868--in order to continue to serve the residents, business community and guests of Dallas and the surrounding Metroplex. On Nov. 1, 2009, the leadership of First Baptist recommended to its congregation plans to build a new 21st-century campus, unveiling the proposed $130 million project designed to be a re-creation, not a renovation, of the original facilities. Making way for the construction of the new campus required the removal by experts of six original structures, beginning Oct. 30, 2010, using 450 pounds of dynamite and 1,200 charges. Only the original historic sanctuary, completed in 1891, and Criswell Center, built in 2006, remained. The church officially broke ground on the new construction on July 11, 2011. The new First Baptist campus is part of an extensive and impressive ongoing revitalization of downtown Dallas, following the recent opening of several innovative museums, theaters and parks. Jeffress has built on First Baptist’s reputation as a beacon of Bible teaching while aggressively working to improve its future legacy in Dallas. Under his leadership, First Baptist--which was once seen as a dying church--is now experiencing growth and embarking on a new beginning. This year the Easter message of “rebirth” takes on a special dimension for the members of First Baptist Dallas. Do you feel spending $130 million on a church campus glorifies God or could the money be better spent helping people? |

Religion / Mayan Apocalypse: Panic Spreads As December 21 Nears by ngosayogie(m): 3:27pm On Dec 10, 2012 |
Fears that the end of the world is nigh have spread across the world with only days until the end of the Mayan calendar, with doomsday-mongers predicting a cataclysmic end to the history of Earth. Ahead of December 21, which marks the conclusion of the 5,125-year "Long Count" Mayan calendar, panic buying of candles and essentials has been reported in China and Russia, along with an explosion in sales of survival shelters in America. In France believers were preparing to converge on a mountain where they believe aliens will rescue them. The precise manner of Armageddon remains vague, ranging from a catastrophic celestial collision between Earth and the mythical planet Nibiru, also known as Planet X, a disastrous crash with a comet, or the annihilation of civilisation by a giant solar storm. In America Ron Hubbard, a manufacturer of hi-tech underground survival shelters, has seen his business explode. "We've gone from one a month to one a day," he said. "I don't have an opinion on the Mayan calendar but, when astrophysicists come to me, buy my shelters and tell me to be prepared for solar flares, radiation, EMPs (electromagnetic pulses) ... I'm going underground on the 19th and coming out on the 23rd. It's just in case anybody's right." In the French Pyrenees the mayor of Bugarach, population 179, has attempted to prevent pandemonium by banning UFO watchers and light aircraft from the flat topped mount Pic de Bugarach. According to New Age lore it as an "alien garage" where extraterrestrials are waiting to abandon Earth, taking a lucky few humans with them. Russia saw people in Omutninsk, in Kirov region, rushing to buy kerosene and supplies after a newspaper article, supposedly written by a Tibetan monk, confirmed the end of the world. The city of Novokuznetsk faced a run on salt. In Barnaul, close to the Altai Mountains, panic-buyers snapped up all the torches and Thermos flasks. Dmitry Medvedev, the Russian prime minister, even addressed the situation. "I don't believe in the end of the world," before adding somewhat disconcertingly: "At least, not this year." In China, which has no history of preoccupation with the end of the world, a wave of paranoia about the apocalypse can be traced to the 2009 Hollywood blockbuster "2012". The film, starring John Cusack, was a smash hit in China, as viewers were seduced by a plot that saw the Chinese military building arks to save humanity. Some in China are taking the prospect of Armageddon seriously with panic buying of candles reported in Sichuan province. The source of the panic was traced to a post on Sina Weibo, China's version of Twitter, predicting that there will be three days of darkness when the apocalypse arrives. One grocery store owner said: "At first, we had no idea why. But then we heard someone muttering about the continuous darkness." Shanghai police said scam artists had been convincing pensioners to hand over savings in a last act of charity. Meanwhile in Mexico, where the ancient Mayan civilisation flourished, the end time has been seen as an opportunity. The country has organised hundreds of Maya-themed events, and tourism is expected to have doubled this year. Nasa has been aggressively seeking to dispel doomsday fears. It says there is no evidence Nibiru exists, and rumours it could be hiding behind the sun are unfounded. "It can't hide behind the sun forever, and we would've seen it years ago," a Nasa scientist said. The space agency also rejected apocalyptic theories about unusual alignments of the planets, or that the Earth's magnetic poles could suddenly "flip." Conspiracy theorists contend that the space agency is involved in an elaborate cover up to prevent panic. But David Morrison, an astronomer at Nasa, said: "At least once a week I get a message from a young person, as young as 11, who says they are ill and/or contemplating suicide because of the coming doomsday. I think it's evil for people to propagate rumours on the internet to frighten children." Mayans themselves reject any notion that the world will end. Pedro Celestino Yac Noj, a Mayan sage, burned seeds and fruits to mark the end of the old calender at a ceremony in Cuba. He said: "The 21st is for giving thanks and gratitude and the 22nd welcomes the new cycle, a new dawn." www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/9730618/Mayan-apocalypse-panic-spreads-as-December-21-nears.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+delicious%2Fgqlf+%28Christian+Headlines+Top+Headlines%29&utm_content=FaceBook 2 Likes |
Family / Re: How Do You Survive A Loveless Marriage? by ngosayogie(m): 3:37pm On Nov 30, 2012 |
coogar: I disagree...love never fades. Maybe what he had initially was just infatuation....it was never love. Love is a convenant on its own that lasts forever. " The man or woman you really love will never grow old to you. Through the wrinkles of time, through the bowed frame of years, You will always see the dear face and feel The warm heart union of your eternal love." @OP I've heard so many of such stories....that's even the primary reasons for the high divorce rate. It's quite unfortunate that people will spend time preparing for the Wedding (Lasts just a day) instead of the marriage (Lasts a life time). Love alone can never keep up the burning flame of holy matrimony....marriage is a union btwn 2 totally diff. Individuals and if u don't hve d perfect person for u, then I'm sorry luv will be unable 2 bear d whole weight of d relationship. 2 Likes |
Religion / Financial Prosperity: A Curse Or A Blessing by ngosayogie(m): 2:32pm On Nov 20, 2012 |
Source: www.mightofapen./2012/11/18/financial-prosperity-a-curse-or-a-blessing/ Needless to say, one thing is for sure and that’s the fact that God wants us to prosper (Deuteronomy 8:18, Jeremiah 29:11, Genesis 15:1). He makes us know that his thought for us is that of good and not for evil. God wants us to be comfortable on earth. He does not want us to lack and he wants us to have everything. “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!” (Mathew 7:11) In the bible, we are told of many people God blessed. We have Abraham. He had so much that even nations envied him. David was no different. Lot had so much and even after the troubles in his life, he had far more than he had in the beginning. From all perspectives, this people were wealthy even beyond words could imagine. Again, Jesus says that: Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” (Mathew 19:24). We are told of Solomon who had so much, and after a time, he slowly began to shift away from God. He tasted all that life could offer and at the end of his life, he concluded that all was vanity. Again, we have the story of Lazarus and the Rich man. The Rich man had it all. Lazarus was a mere bagger at his gate and after their deaths, Lazarus made heaven while the once wealthy man begged to get a drop of water on his quenching tongue (Luke 16:19). The foolish rich man again, was a man who exalted himself, even above God and took solace in his material possessions. He never acknowledged God and at the end, it became the death of him (Luke 12:16-21). Now away from our bible. We have Christians who are exceeding prosperous in all their earthly ventures and we have Christians who can barely make it through three square meals a day. Today, we have preachers who are criticized for being wealthy. Their lifestyle is a spectacle for the media. Their complain: Why would preachers live in affluence while their members squander in penury? Does a labourer not deserve his wages? Even one in the household of God. Again, we are made known about the lives of the early apostles of Christ. They were noted for many things. They separated themselves from the ways of this world. They were citizens of a different nation, though they dwelled among men. They didn’t seek after material gains, but instead they sought for a greater gain. “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.20But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.22″The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light.23But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!24″No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.” (Mathew 6:19-24). There was a time when a man came to Jesus seeking eternal life. He boasted of how he obeyed all the laws and how he lived the right life. Jesus gave him one final test: “Sell all you have and follow me”. Seeing that he had so much, he could not part away from his might possession and so he left Jesus disappointed. (Mathew 10:21). Can you part with all you have to follow Jesus? In this case of this man, he had so much and yet was afraid to lose what he had. But, he was not the first Jesus had called. Before him were the twelve. They answered his calls with hesitation. Even Matthew the tax collector (Back then, tax collectors were seen as evil and corrupt people who oppressed the poor to get high gains.). The case is different from the twelve for they did not have much to call their own in contrast to this wealthy man. Didn’t you observe how easy is was for them to discard all they had a follow Jesus, unlike the wealthy man? Another scenario was a wealthy centurion, Cornelius the Centurion who Jesus sent Peter to meet (Acts 10) . The centurion obeyed God and prayed much to him and he was a God fearing man, but he didn’t know Jesus. (I am the way the truth and the light, no one comes to the father except by me. John 14:16). So he needed to get saved by knowing and admitting Jesus as the Lord and Saviour (Romans 10:9). Although he was rich and he also obeyed God, there was one thing peculiar about him: “Your prayer and your alms have come as a memorial before God.” (Acts 10:14.). He gave. Was it just about giving? Surely if it was, then all wealthy men would have been saved. Look at the scenario between a rich man and a poor widow. The rich man flaunted his offering and gave much because he was rich. The disciples (Being MEN) saw that this rich man gave more than any other person, but Jesus opposed saying that the poor widow gave more. Why? Because she gave from her heart not just because she wanted the praise of man or because she had so much that she needed to give some away. Back to the very beginning of this post. Is it God’s will for us to be wealthy and prosper how is it his will that he have little or nothing. It is quite apparent that he wants the best for us. If it quite apparent that God wants us to prosper, but there is a problem: The misuse of wealth or prosperity by man. There is a story of a man when he was poor, could sweep the entire church and would never miss a church service. He prayed to be rich and after God finally answered his prayers, he swayed away from God. He missed service and he definitely saw himself too big to lay hands on a broom on even arrange the chairs in church. Unknown to him, wealth had become a curse rather than a blessing. James 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. 4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. 16 But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil. I have just open question: You want to be rich, but have you examined yourself and know why you really want so much money? The bible tells us that contentment with God is great gain. Or is it that God knows that like that man, you’ll turn away from him once he grants you your heart desire? It’s quite unfortunate and very true that many preachers have abused the seat of leadership of the church as an avenue to make money. Many preachers are seen in flamboyant cars and in large entourage. Building mansions all over the place. But I have just one question: If one egg is bad, does that make all the eggs bad? Remember that counterfeits can all exists because there are originals. If there were no originals, then the word ‘counterfeit’ would not come into play. In my opening sentences, we saw people who were rich and stayed faithful to God and we saw others who were rich and never stayed faithful to God, or like Solomon were attracted by the things of this world. |
Events / I'm Still Waiting... by ngosayogie(m): 8:51pm On Nov 04, 2012 |
I'm extremely curious about those born february 29th which ironically comes once every 4 years....2012 is a leap year so we have february 29th, but we have to wait for another 4 years to get another leap year (2016). So if u were born on a february 29th, on one of those leap years, how are u takling/handling having to wait for 4 years to celebrate your birthday. It's quite frustrating having to wait for four years to have a birthday celebration, while your friends have theirs on yearly basis...if they ask if u don't have a birth date/ don't celebrate birthdays, u have to explain to them. Feels quite awful. How do u know when u are plus one during the month of february when it has got no 29th? U have to wait until it's march first or what? What about those party loving guys? Won't it be frustrating for them having to wait every four years? What's your take on this guys? |
