How did you feel when you first got pregnancy. . . . When you had your first baby ? Your first experience. Where you scared? Happy? Out of it? Helpless? Was your husband in the labor room? How did he react? When you first held your baby, what were you thinking right then? Plz, do tell. 1 Like |

Make sure you put EPIDURAL in upper case in your paperwork. Infact tell them to just start giving it to you everyday just in case labor starts unexpectedly. LOL. Okay on a serious note. It is the worst pain you will ever feel. You will think that you will die but you will not. You will get through it and somehow stupidly get pregnant again. Pregnancy is different for every woman. I had problems digesting food and had pre eclampsia with baby number one. Had the same digestion problems with baby number two but no preclampsia. You will be very nervous with baby number one especially if you are not used to newborns. You will make numerous doctor appointments because you think the baby might be running a fever and the doctor sef will beg you not to come back. She does not want your money anymore. LOL. By baby two you will be relaxed. You will not even believe that you were as tense as you were with baby one. 16 Likes |

yup. I was there with her, along with her mom. while she was acting all strong and wouldnt take epidural (right spelling?), I quitely reminded her of the tricks we learnt during lamaze. My wife shouted me down and i couldnt believe it cos she's normally the very sweet lady. we have a wonderful boy now - he's generated a lot of NL threads already 2 Likes |

I ahd my first child almost 4 yrs ago. The 9 months of pregnancy was a breeze, no complications. I was excited all through until the 9months when I knew the baby would be coming anytime. Watched discovery health channel every day of women going into labor and giving birth, Made me very nervous, sometimes I cried but always assured myself all would be well (I consoled myself by saying 'if my mum could go through this 5 different times, I can do it as well'). Labor started in the middle of the night at 11pm, but I really was not sure it was it until 2am when I could not ignore the pain, Unfortunately I was the only one home, my hubby was on his way back from NY attending his sisters' wedding. I called him and he was 30 mins away, Called my dad ( a retired MD in Nigeria) and he was literally timing my contractions on the phone as we spoke, he finally asked me to call my doctor because my contractions were 5 mins apart and miraculosly my hubby made it home in 15mins as oppsed to 30mins (he came with the police behind him. He was speeding all thru and the police tried to pull him over but he did not stop until he got to the house.) He then told them his wife was in labor and when they saw me, they helped get me to the car and we were on our way to the hopsital. The drive to the hospital was most memorable, I cried and screamed when the contractions started and made jokes and laughed with my hubby in between (he was cracking the jokes). I saw him wipe his eyes twice during the ride ( he was trearing up seeing me in pain). Got to the hospital, on epidural and some meds, gosh it was like heaven on earth, still in pain but the meds took the edge off. I prayed for my hubby during this time and thanked him for his love and care (he told me all this, I really didn't remember cos I was doped from the meds). I had labored for 13 hrs. My son peeped into the world with his body still inside of me, his shouldres were stuck and as the doctor asked me to push, I told him I couldn't my husban knelt down beside me and pleaded to try to push 1 last time, he told me I could do it, he gve me the courage to suck up the pain and push. Finally had my son at 1pm Saturday afternoon a week before Xmas (naming was on xmas day). He was beautiful, i cried as I saw my hubby cut the umbilical cord, he was gorgeous at 6lbs 10oz. All went well could I not sit properly for a week because it still hurt a lil down there, but everytime I saw my childs' face, I KNEW IT WAS WORTH IT. I took him to the Ped, everytime he had a lil sneeze, cough or temperature. After visting the pediatrician almost every day for 2 weeks straight, they asked me to call a nurse line before comign in ( I guess they didnt want to see me anymore lol). My son will be 4 in a month now, grown up to be a God loving, handsome bobo like his dad. 34 Likes |

~You asked for it,so here goes!! ~First thing i noticed that was unusual was my appetite to eat,i lived & survived on snacks ~sandwhiches ~salad & chicken wings, sometimes,i'd go thro the day & wonder if i've eaten . . all of a sudden i started pigging out like no body's bizness!! I craved for the local food back home . . .food i wudnt necessarrily give a toss about . . . anything Rice will have me looking like a kid in a sweet shop!! My sexual urges was on overdrive, lol,i wanted to hit it more often than normal!to put it bluntly,I was gaging for it!! -I wasnt overly wooried when i missed my monthly,i have this weird cycle, where i'd hit or miss . . .after two-miss-months,i finally went to my GP for a check-up! Didnt have to say much,as i was handed a pregnancy kit,i was so nervous doing my thing to find out -my heart was beating like drums . . . i was ever so estatic to confirm what i'd already suspected & looked forward to feel a new life grow in me,see my bump grow . . .little did i know what journey i had ahead . . there was highs & lows - Emotions & hormones ran thro me like raindrops thro tree leaves but you know what . . . It was all worth it!! ~Spitting:This was the part i hated the most!!my tummy was still as flat as a pancake,no even a bulge, yet there i was spitting for England!!i would have won a gold medal & all i wont dwell on it . .save you the "eews" ;Girlfirend my glands were on overtime . .lol i had all sorts of mints to keep my mouth busy,i was reduced to be discrectly stuck w/ a fragranced 75ml soda bottle w/ a drop of my favourite body bath ready for any bombardment of nastiness everywhere i went!! i was grossed out past caring & i didnt even realised when it stopped!! It was inbetween first term & half term . .boy was i happy!! ~First scan left me on a high, seeing the baby on the monitor, hearing baby's heartbeat, aaah,i looked at that scan pic every few seconds to remind myself i really had a baby growing in me,my tummy had started to loose its firmness,i welcomed the slight bulge with much anticipation!! ~The significant change from having a very huge appetite to not been able to keep any food down was not on any research i'd read,& trust me as a research buff, you bet,i'd read up on A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G & E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G to do with pregnancy!! ~The real wierd part was i couldnt stand eating the very few food i do eat, already a very fussy eater by nature, the thought of eating chicken, meat, fish freaked me out!! It was so weird i thought,it was unreal; the advert of KFC chicken on Tv would have me running to go puke,it was as if the food was right in front of me & i could smell it . .{i don't even eat KFC }- anyways i had the same difficulty if i walked passed a resturant, the arouma of any food will make me sick!!Needless to say there was a NO- Cooking/Making-Anything-That-Will-Leave-A-Smell in the house, not that my hubby could cook anyways, but he was banned from making the one thing he was good at . . baked Potato & Tuna . .that grossed me out more than the KFC Advert!! Poor Bugs,he eat out all thro my preggy! ~So what was i eating?- i hear you wonder!! Toast, cucumber & tomato sandwhich, hell of a lot of tea,Coke, water & my new found obession of chewing Uncooked Rice!!yes!!you read it right . . .i had my special zip it bag for the rice . . .Half the time i did eat any of the above,i cudnt keep it down,i felt like a bulimic, one minute i was eating, the next minute it was all out again!~ A couple of occassion in the last term of my pregnancy i craved for fufu;hubby called on a favour from a friend of a friend to make me some - back then,i'll burn water when it came to cooking anything local from back home!! Girl did i pig out on that . .it was as if i'd hadnt eaten for a month!! ~Needless to say the midwife was really wooried about baby,as i wasnt eating properly to help baby grow bla bla bla,i was always at the point of passing out from exhaustion ~ heartburn ~ my insomnia became chronic,i couldnt sleep for days sometimes . .i felt like a zombie at night,my love for reading became an obssession -i read a book or two each day ~research-crazed,i read up on everything there was to know about first-time-mums,joined forums, groups about babies, watched babies popping out on Discovery health . . i was ever so emotional,i cried at the silliest things-hormones was all over the place!!for the most part if i wasnt shopping, window shopping,i slept thro the day, started my routine all over again!! ~On one of my schedule checkups,my midwife informed me i had sickle cell trait! Am like "You what!!" "you sure you got the right file ?" went through the usual Q's "any history of SC?" "NO!!"- anywho i had an appointment booked w/ The Sickle Cell centre . . that scared the shit out of me,for real!! Did all the necessary blood tests, had the talk w/ the cousellor . .giving it to me straight up - hubby had to be tested, what the chances were for baby if hubby had the trait as welli was balling thro-out her counselling . . .Halle Berry had nothing on me on her Oscar speech!! - not something i like to think about at all!!. . was a close call . . .to think when i looked at my son now,i was given the option to terminate if hubby had the trait as well . . phew!! I can only say "Thank You Lord" ~On a much brigther note,{prolly bored you silly w/ my preggy autobiography huh} - I loved my bump: it wasnt humongous,it was real sexy & small,i regularly checked my bump in the long length mirror to see how much it has grown,i looked forward to it taking the form from a bulge to the shape of a round pot's backside . .when i told peeps when i was due they're like "hmm you sure?" { like i wouldnt know} - i didnt feel the need to wear/buy maternity,i just bought me clothes a size up when my bump outgrew my regular clothes!!my nose however was a totally different story,i felt like pinoccho . .my nose was huge . . especially towards half-term!!i avoided taking pics just b/c of my nose . .i had this special glow only a preggy woman can boost of . . my bust size doubled,& i put those babies forward, like Pamela Anderson would on a beach in baywatch- my nails grew strong & long!! ~Truth be told i cudnt wait to pop the baby out!! I was knackered,Nine months can do that to you you know!! 10 Likes 1 Share |

MC, I'm in class right now, so I'll finish reading your experience later. Thank you You asked me earlier what the assignment was about? Basically maternity. Been going to the hospital for a while, maternity unit. To observe, and actually learn something about OB/GYN, what they do, procedure etc. Talk to the patience, how they feel, etc. Basically, this is a part of my assignment. It's really cool, but I wouldn't want to work on that floor The babies are wonderful but it's same thing over and over again. seeing a baby being born, oh it cried and cried. uggghhh And I can't deal with the symptoms those babies are going true. Saw a baby today, all his arm burned. I think his mother put his arms in hot water because he couldn't stop crying. Some people should just not have babies So I was like, hey, why not ask nairalanders too |

*Morenike: ~No worries . .you're most welcome! ~I guess you get to see & experience first hand the Joys of having a baby & the worst of Mums/parents who should just not have had babies!! Abuse amongs new born babies/toddlers is so common place nowadays!! to say some Mums lack patience is an understatement!! They dont deal w/ the post-natal depresion or are not aware they have it even, poor babies have to suffer!! ~The past week has seen stories of a 17mth old baby girl who was abused at the hands of her mum,her b/f & the lodger, very sickening!! http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/UK-News/Haringey-Council-Says-Sorry-After-Death-Of-Baby-P-Comes-As-Review-Of-Child-Welfare-Services-Begins/Article/200811215150446?lpos=UK_News_Carousel_Region_0&lid=ARTICLE_15150446_Haringey_Council_Says_Sorry_After_Death_Of_Baby_P%3A_Comes_As_Review_Of_Child_Welfare_Services_Begins ~This mum killed her two children!! http://uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20081113/tuk-police-name-dead-baby-and-toddler-45dbed5.html ~Best of luck w/ your observations! |
