Everton can confirm Victor Anichebe has not suffered serious injury whilst on international duty.

The 22-year-old Everton forward was omitted from the Super Eagles' World Cup squad on Sunday and today (Tuesday) reports in the media suggested Anichebe's omission was as a result of a shin injury picked up in last week's international friendly with Saudi Arabia.

Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, the chairman of the technical committee at the Nigerian Football Federation, reportedly told the Nigerian Tribune Anichebe was left out of Lars Lagerback's 23-man World Cup squad because of injury.

Everton can confirm the injury, reported in some media outlets as a 'cracked chin', is actually nothing more serious than a bruised shin.

Anichebe was selected as the man of the match in the friendly against Saudi Arabia but didn't feature against Colombia on Sunday in the Super Eagles' final World Cup warm-up match.

abeg this anichebe nonsense should stop. we already know now that lagerback is just a white version of amodu, we should forget about utaka, kanu, yakubu and put them as just 15 minute players other than that we can have a good tornament imagine playing this team
                                        enyeama

              odiah,    afolabi,  adeleye,    taiwo,

                                          mikel,

                  osaze,       lukman,    obinna,

                              martins,   obasi,

obasi is miles better than anichebe the only problem is that people don't want to realise that he is a striker not a winger. because he is short and skillful they wants to turn him to a winger but if i was him i would just tell the coach direct am a striker not winger.  this team i put here can win anybody but the problem is the bench there is nobody there that can change the game if something is going wrong. remember there is no difference between amodu and lagerback

Anichebe would give you 100% effort I would not bet on Kanu and the Yak giving you 35% percent effort

12 Large

The problem is that you think football ends with 1st eleven. When others are tired playing for like 70 minutes under the harsh weather conditions in South Africa, you may need a sub that will come in to run at people in order to change our fortunes in a match.

That sub is surely not Kanu Nwankwo, nor Yakubu, nor Martins. These are old players who simply have lost their pace.

We need Anichebe even if in place of Kalu Uche, but Anichebe should have been in the team.
Re: Nigerian Football Association Lied About Anichebe's Omission by 12large: 6:46pm On Jun 01, 2010
no i don't think football ends with first 11. we already know that coach made mistake to drop uche or anichebe, but it is too late to be talking, whether we talk from today till tommorow that is final selection. personally i have already given up on kanu, utaka, yakubu i have classified them as useless players am trying to be positive thats why i said that we can still do very well with this squad. afterall majority of you guys did not even mention anichebe name in starting 11 before the saudi arabia game.

It is not yet final. A lot happens in Nigerian affairs. Dont be suprised if it turns out that somebody somewhere tampered with the medical report on Anichebe so that he can be dropped and one of the old horses can be taken. Reasons being somebody may have paid their way to achieve this.

A lot happens in this our God forsaken country. I am happy that Everton are very swift in their reaction to these lies, at least if no correction is made we will all be clear that this is Largerback's true choice.

Toffees insist Anichebe injury not serious
By Ben Collins   Last updated: 1st June 2010

Injury Anichebe: confusion

, Everton have taken issue with Nigeria over the omission of Victor Anichebe from their World Cup squad through injury.

The Everton striker was one of the most notable omissions when Swedish boss Lars Lagerback named his final 23-man party, particularly after being their star man during last week's warm-up against Saudi Arabia.

Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, the chairman of the technical committee at the Nigerian Football Federation, reportedly told the Nigerian Tribune he was left out after suffering a cracked chin against the Saudis.

But Everton have issued a statement on their official website, clarifying that their 22-year-old frontman has, in fact, suffered a bruised shin and that the injury is not serious.

The Premier League club have been angered at what they see as misinformation while the youngster is devastated at not making it to South Africa.

Anichebe featured in the Nigerian side that reached the 2008 Olympic final, losing to Argentina, and he has so far made four appearances for the senior team.

Let no one blame folks like Victor Moses, Agbonlahor, Cathlene Cole, Nedum Onuoha who refused to switch allegiance.

It is because of this kind of corruption in everything Nigerian. Anichebe had a choice to be like the rest of these guys, but he chose Nigeria instead. Now he is being made to regret putting his fatherland first.

Why should any FA lie about the level of a player's injury in other to get rid of them?
Re: Nigerian Football Association Lied About Anichebe's Omission by BloodShed1: 12:40am On Jun 02, 2010
LOL I knew it. I JUST KNEW IT!!!!

Something just wasn't right.

The lie they told about Victor Moses should also be brought to light.

This is just pitiful, I feel for Anichebe. People should have caught on when Mikel is injured yet still included and he had a serious injury.

This country just dey tire me more and more, is this the same strict and stubborn largerbeer Amodu was fired for being tossed around like fowl? i am having 80% feeling that the team was not even chosen by him. angry angry angry

when a yooiba man says chin, he means shin, everton, it was lost in translation, i swear on my honour that ogunjobi was referring to shin NOT chin, bruised or cracked, shin , it is still an injury

firstly his name is CARLTON cole not cathlene! and secondly just how bright of a career move has snubbing Nigeria proven to be for these young men? which of them was even in contention for a place in Englands preliminary 30 man squad? so because you have dual nationality, playing for Nigeria should mean we should give them guaranteed first team berths? look here, Nigeria does not owe any player any right to be on that team! granted Anichebe merited it by performance and i would like to hear what lagerback has to say because if he was excluded based on injury and he is not really that seriously injured then someone has some explaining to do. lets just stop viewing the issue from the viewpoint of "he could have played for England"
Re: Nigerian Football Association Lied About Anichebe's Omission by Nobody: 8:19pm On Jun 02, 2010
Nobody should be guaranteed 1st team place but all must be treated with honesty.

If what you are saying is Anichebe is not qualified to make our last 23 then we should be bold enough to say so not lie about an unexistent injury.

There is no need inviting 30 people to camp and resort to politics when it comes to the last 23. You could have as well chosen you 23 from the onset and avoid wasting people's time.

If 45 minutes was not enough to play Anichebe into the team, then he should not have been invited at all since we already have a prejudiced view of his abilities.

There is no need inviting a player to come and prove his worth, he comes does exactly that and then you begin to make up un-existent injuries in other to drop him.

I think you should also give up your arm chair defence over what you have no clue about. A lot of corruption goes on in Nigeria over everything. This is how Glen Hoddle talked about how he was asked to inflate the Salary the was asking to an amount that looks like what Largerback is being paid today (albeit official amount) and nobody is taking it seriously.

The Anichebe affair could be another case in a long list of corruption that has taken place as a result of this world cup. If this kind of behaviour does not trouble you then I think you should tell us why?

This is another British propaganda!! Why are they always trying to expose nigeria or show us in bad light?

If the nigerian medical technical team says he is injured then he is injured ko! cool

why are nfa committe officials usually speaking on behalf of the coach, medical staff and players anyway, thought we have media offciers, players and the coach can do his own talking

This Anichebe issue should stop. He is still a young lad who still has a future on nigerian team. Remember Ayegbeni was left in that same manner in japan korea'02.

Anichebe will get his chance next time. He has age on his side.
We should remember that we can't take all of them to the world cup only 23 is allowed.
What this tells me is that the Super Eagles have got quality that is all

NOT ABSOLVING NFF OF ANY BLAME. They are bunch of retarded fools
