how come u never hear of these muslims involved in the sort of acts u mentioned. i am a muslim and i strongly believe Islam means peace however it is all subject to ones interpretation of the religion. Without doubt the indescriminate persecution of muslims the world over for the actions of a few is not helping matters.  

@ spiderman,  no doubt, there are good/ bad peoples within all religions and also understand/interpretation of ones religion is keen, but the coming and spread of islam into Africa and West Africa comes in form of violace and jihadist movement which create vulnerability or underscore/contradict islam teaching of peace. Note that the teaching of world peace, peaceful co-existence, religious tolerance are are late 19th century international system agenda aim at promoting peace in the world, so islamic scholars and important figures are all approach to adopt such teaching in their religious activities to promote peace in the world.

In general, what i mean is that islam as a religion is strongly associated with violance but present islamic scholars/muslims are adopting nature law in their approach to islam faith. It is a welcome development.

Why misleading people, Jihad literal meaning is muslim holy war against unbelievers. I will advise you to read the history of the spread of islam into West Africa or history of Sokoto caliphate so that you can fully understand some fundatemental  teaching of islam.
