On the 6th day of August 2019, Campus Torch launched the TeachMeCoding Campaign in selected schools in Lagos. Teach Me Coding is an initiative aimed at raising 10,000 young software developers in Africa, starting with Nigeria before June 2020, it is inspired by the need to equip and develop next generation with the skill and ability to positively influence the future using tech as a tool. ‘According to World Economic Forum, Coding among other tech skills will be the most sorted after industry starting 2022. Our goal is to train 10,000 brilliant students in the 36 states of Nigeria before 2020 so they can be relevant before the set time. With the readily available software, resources and materials we are sure to hit the target. We of course need the support of every Educational Institutions, Communities and Organizations’, said one of the initiators of the campaign while responding to questions from the Press. In an exclusive with the founders of Campus Torch, Taiwo and Kehinde Ogunde, the duo stated that the Campaign is starting with Lagos and will be reaching other states in South-West and South-East before the end of the year; while a new focus will be geared towards the North and South-South before June 2020. “Everyone should know how to code regardless of your field or your aspirations, it enhances problem solving ability and aids thinking process; Students’ especially need to understand line of codes when they see it and should be able to interpret it in graphical forms; we are more concerned about young people, what they can create and achieve after their studies because they are the future. This is a very good start; the excitement from and curiosity to learn; these were the feedback we got from Lagos and with the help of God we’ll reach further. Someday coding will be a part of the teaching curriculum for Schools in Nigeria”, they concluded. 14th May, 2018 was a remarkable day for the Faculty of Social Science, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, as they witnessed history in the making, ‘the launch of the new Campus Torch Android App’ while they celebrate their festival with SOSSA tagged: A day with the Campus Torch It got more interesting as the new Android App got close to a thousand downloads in just few hours of launch by the students of faculty and beyond. Nonetheless, it could never be described as enough as the event turned out to be a platform for talent discoveries and stage for edification The CEO of Campus Torch, Taiwo Ogunde came through with his excellent slides and talk which was channeled at challenging the students to explore their skills and ideas in order to connect with the endless opportunities around them, he also ran through quick tips on the features and functionalities of the app. “We have been able to automate the processes of Campus Torch as an organization using technology as a tool; with the help of the Mobile App, It’ll be easier for youth and students of same interests to learn, connect and find opportunities of Jobs, Internship, Scholarship amongst others while they do not miss out on the daily updates from Campus Torch. We are creating a platform where those who study, practice and learn new skills will never lack the opportunity to explore their brilliance” Taiwo said while answering diverse questions from the press Participants’ views as intended turned out to be highly productive, as many of the students began to surf through the mobile app, engaging themselves on posts and looking forward to another exciting tour to institutions at the eastern part of Nigeria.
