GOD, SOCIAL MEDIA AND SPAM MESSAGES I really do not know if I gave this post the right title but what I have above seems to be the best I could come up with now. I’m sure you may be wondering what I’m about to talk about. Well, it’s an issue that has been pissing me off for a long time now on social media and when I start talking about it, you may find out that it’s something you are also sick and tired of. It’s a sensational and very fast-spreading practice among users of especially Whatsapp and BBM. God (as they always want us to believe) sends you a message and threatens to wreck you or cause calamity to befall you or even kill you if you do not send it to 10, 14 or so people. It’s very annoying. And even more annoying when you think of the fact that graduates and supposed learned people join in sending these spam or should I say miracle messages to their friends every day. Maybe they are doing it out of fear because those messages carry a lot of frightening threats. Almost all of them will end with warning notes that you will suffer, get broke or die if you’ve read it but choose not to send it to the number of people they direct. I confronted one of my friends on Whatsapp in the days of Ebola Scare and the salt-water-bath joke. I asked him whether he thought that prescription made sense. He said he was sending it to his loved ones for the sake of sending and there is no harm in doing so. And I’m wondering how people will just get on others people’s nerves, disturb their peace, run down their batteries and gulp their MB with inconsequential messages and claim it’s just for sending sake. Many of us are children of God, yet we are very gullible and fearful. So fearful and gullible that we have stopped thinking. Someone sent me this: “I am God….send this message to the whole world before midnight and something good will happen to you within 13 days. A police officer read this and deleted it and had a great loss after 13 days. Don’t cut the chain!” Another friend sent me one that ended this way: “Send this to 10 people within the hour of reading this, if you don’t, your wish will become the opposite.” And people are busy forwarding and sending. Every day, you receive the message that says that a mysterious baby was born in a hospital last week or that a pastor gave an angel a lift last week and they always end the messages with a promise of an instant miracle and a warning threat. No one ever stops to question these events that have been reoccurring every last week for many years now. The threats are really working! But it’s amazing how people believe even the most ridiculous and senseless posts. One was about a woman who was pursued by a rat. She fell and broke one of her legs. A ‘prophetic prayer’ followed and people were threatened that if they didn’t type ‘Amen’, evil rat may locate them. You can only imagine the number of fear-prompted comments/Amen typed under that post. I want to ask a few questions with all due respect. What is wrong with us? Why are we not thinking? Do you really believe that God will punish you if you fail to send those messages? What makes you think that your future or destiny is tied to a message on social media? Do you genuinely believe you will receive instant miracles after you typed 'Amen' on that post or wake up a millionaire simply because you broadcasted a message to 14 people the previous day?? Please stop the joke. The breakthroughs and success you are looking for truly begin with God but He has laid down principles for attaining good success. Find them, live by them and you will be successful. More so, God does not send threats to people to make them obey Him. As a matter of fact, He can’t do that. So stop spreading your fears…. Have a great week y’all. 3 Likes |
