WHO DO YOU LEAVE YOUR LITTLE KIDS WITH

Imagine the trauma the small girl is being subjected to by one who is supposed to be watching over her. I suspect whoever filmed it had been seeing her molest that child regularly in that location and decided to record it the next time it happened. Shameful and pathetic. Who is really looking after our children? Young boys are also being molested like this...

Politics / I Will Not Resign If We Fail To Defeat Boko Haram - Buhari (+video Interview) by nuche011(m): 8:08am On Oct 17, 2015
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari pledged to defeat Boko Haram by December in an exclusive interview with Al Jazeera English’s flagship current affairs show, ‘UpFront’, but also added that if Boko Haram isn’t defeated by December, he “will not resign”.
He however acknowledged he would be willing to negotiate with the group to secure the release of the kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls. President Buhari told ‘UpFront’ host Mehdi Hasan:

“They have to prove to us that they are alive, they are well, and then we can…negotiate with them. We said it and we meant it. If we are satisfied that the girls are alive.”
When asked whether he would offer financial payments, or a prisoner release, to Boko Haram in return for the girls, Buhari did not rule out either option.
“Well it depends on the negotiations with the leadership of Boko Haram.”

The president has pledged to defeat Boko Haram by the end of 2015 and told Hasan:
“As soon as the rainy season comes, which is by the end of the year […] Boko Haram will virtually be out of their main stronghold and that will be the end of it [….] Attacks by Boko Haram on townships, on military installations, will certainly stop.”
If Boko Haram isn’t defeated by December, however, Buhari said he “will not resign”.
“I will be determined to stay and fight it out.”

Health / Ladies.... Lets Talk ABout Surviving Breast Cancer by nuche011(m): 10:52pm On Oct 14, 2015
Reports has it that about 13,000 women die of breast cancer annually in Nigeria, medical experts, cancer survivors and other stakeholders in cancer care have said that early detection and prompt treatment is key to surviving breast cancer.
Speaking during a 10 kilometre walk to mark this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the 20th anniversary of the Care. Organisation. Public. Enlightenment, COPE, in Lagos, they lamented late presentation of breast cancer patients at the hospital.

Addressing hundreds of participants during the walk which kicked off around 7:00am Saturday from the Archbishop Vining Memorial Church, GRA , Ikeja to Maryland and back, Chief Executive Officer, COPE, Mrs Ebunola Anozie identified late presentation, lack of special fund and comprehensive cancer centre as major factors contributing to low survival rates in the country.

Late presentation: Anozie said the choice of a walk to celebrate COPE’s 20th anniversary was informed by the fact that despite improved awareness on early detection, many Nigerian women are still presenting late.

“Our aim is solely to raise awareness about breast cancer as part of efforts to reduce the mortality of breast cancer in Nigeria. Early detection can cure breast cancer and reduce the mortality rate from the disease.

On treatment challenges face by cancer patients in Nigeria, Anozie appealed to the Federal government to build a comprehensive cancer centre to aid treatment of patients. According to her, a comprehensive cancer centre would reduce brain drain as well as stop the mad rush to other countries for treatment.

On his part, Representative of Chapel of Healing Cross, Idi Araba, Wale Ogundetoun raised alarm over increasing incidences of cancer in the country.

He called for a special fund for Nigerians who cannot afford the needed resources for their medical treatment. “The government should improve our healthcare facilities. We have many people who cannot afford the treatment and they are in the hospitals without hope. With improved healthcare facilities and provision of special funds for those who cannot afford it, more people will survive and the burden will be reducedon families.”

Speaking, a 17 years cancer survivor who is also the Vice President of COPE, Mrs. Kehinde Gbelee noted that there have been a lot of improvement in awareness, and treatment better than when she was diagnosed of cancer, adding that there is now chances of surviving cancer in Nigeria.

“To survive cancer, you must keep to your medicine and take your chemotherapy and radiotherapy as well as do all that the doctors advised because at the end of every dark tunnel there is always a bright light.”

Expensive treatment: Another survivor, Mrs. Funmi Olufumi layo Dada called on the Federal Government to address treatment problems in the country. According to her, the continued break down of radiotherapy machines across the country has further stretched the burden on the patients.

“Due to continuous breakdown of radio therapy machines, Patients travel from Lagos to Benin, Abuja and Kaduna just to get radio therapy or some special medical investigations.

“Treatment is very expensive, some of the treatment like chemotherapy cost as high as N10 million. They should liaise with pharmaceutical companies to bring down the prices of these drugs so that it can be affordable and people can live longer.”

Speaking, representative of Skye Bank, Head Corporate Communication Function, Mr. Rasheed Bolarinwa, who said they have supported COPE in the last 10 years said the bank decided to adopt breast cancer as their baby due to the devastating effects on cancer on families psychologically, and financially.

Bolarinwa who noted that breast cancer has the highest mortality rates globally, hence the need to support organisations like COPE to do more in order to save lives.

Health / 5 Dangers Of Waist Trainers That Ladies Should Know by nuche011(m): 9:01am On Oct 11, 2015
Waist training is a practice of wearing cinchers, girdles, corsets and body shapers either for a few minutes, hours or all day in order to change the shape of one's waist.

Some women wear to enhance their shape beneath clothes, to exercise while others who consider exercises too much work simply wear it.
While half the women who use waist trainers give up before they even achieve any results, the other half just don’t know when to stop.

Waist trainers work by slowly deforming the bones and displacing some of the organs in the body, many health professionals say this practice is not healthy, and certainly is not a weight loss technique.

Believers of the waist training religion however, argue that the tightness of the waist trainer makes you sweat a lot hence, leading to weigh loss around the waist region and body in general.

The fact however remains that it's really not possible to perspire so much that you shave inches off your midsection in any permanent way.

However, before you decide to join or not to join the waist training train, check out the health hazards of waist trainers.

1. Waist Trainers could displace internal organs and cause pulmonary disease, and occasionally lead to miscarriages.

2. You Don’t “Lose” Weight - Experts have said that those who solely use waist trainers without exercise don’t lose weight. Your organs are simply pushed around into different areas. So, the result is simply the displacement of your vital organs and this can result in health complications.

3. You Eat Less – Since waist trainers make you feel full, many women who wear them tend to eat less, sometimes that “less” means less vital fruits & veggies and we all know we need our vegetables and fruits in order to be healthy.

4. Research shows that "Corset diseases" such as fainting, hemorrhoids, coughing, and palpitations continually plague many women who wear them.

5. Excessive precipitation: the tightness of Waist trainers could lead to incessant precipitation which will lead to body odour if not taken care of properly.

The right way to shed pounds around your belly remains eating healthy, exercising and being active on a regular basis, so, avoid this trend as the negative effects on your health are not worth it.

Crime / Stepfather Raped And Forced Sickle Cell Patient To Live On The Street by nuche011(m): 9:48am On Oct 10, 2015
Reports has it that a 14-year-old girl, her 10 year old brother, and their 42-year-old mother have all been living in a makeshift kiosk that has seen better days in Shagari Estate in Iyana Ipaja – Ipaja, Lagos. The trio started living in the kiosk after the Mum caught her Husband allegedly raping her. Names of the children and mother will not be disclosed so as to protect their identity. (Tomilola isn’t the girl’s real name)

The teenager was raped by her stepfather, 60-year-old Joseph Salako and were sent packing after her mom confronted him and raised the alarm.

When our source's correspondent and the Executive Director, Esther Child Rights Foundation, Mrs. Esther Ogwu, visited the woman and her children at the kiosk during the week they were in a very pitiable state.

Their Mum said in July 2015, she caught her husband, Tomilola’s stepfather, moments after raping the teenager and raised the alarm. She said reported the matter at the Gowon Estate police station and Salako was subsequently arrested by the Police but was released the following day because he promised to pay N50,000 for ‘damages’, a deal she was forced to accept because of the threats by Salako’s other older children and the need to raise money to take care of her sick children.

The Mum said she met Salako 9 years ago after she lost her 1st Husband in a motor accident. She added that her daughter and son were suffering from sickle cell disease. She said she has an 8 year daughter with Salako who still lives with him.
The teenage girl said her stepfather had the habit of sleeping with her at any slight opportunity and threatened to kill her if she told anyome about it.

She narrated:

“My mum had told me to always go and greet him anytime I got home. So, when I came back from school, I went to greet him. I was about leaving when he called me and said he wanted to tell me something that I must not tell anyone.

“He said he wanted to sleep with me. I refused but before I could run away, he carried me and took me inside. He tore my panties and ‘did it’. I was crying because it was paining me but he didn’t stop. I tried to shout but he covered my mouth. When he finished, he cleaned my legs and his ‘thing’ and warned me that he would kill me if I told anyone.”

She continued, “That was not the only time he did it. At other times, he would call me and tell me to ‘suck’ him and because I usually refused, he would slap me. Sometimes, in the midnight, he would come down from the bed and ‘do it’ with me. If I tried to shout, he would cover my mouth and ask if I was ready to die. I would have to endure the pain and just keep quiet.

“The day my mum saw us was the fifth time. When my mum came in, he was already doing it but when he saw the ray of light from the torch my mum was holding, he quickly stood up and went to block her. He would always promise to buy me anything I needed. We had to leave because of the incident.”.

She said one of Salako’s daughters took her to the State High Court premises at Ikeja and made her swear an affidavit that she would not press charges.

“They took advantage of the fact that I am not literate,” she said.

She explained that she used to have a shop in front of her (new) husband’s house where she had a dry-cleaning job.

On the day of the incident, she said her little boy was asleep in the shop and because of the cold, she sent her daughter to go into their room upstairs to bring a blanket to cover the little boy, who was sick. She said she became unsettled when the girl did not return on time.

She continued, “I was waiting for her to return with the cloth so I could cover her brother, but when I didn’t see her, I took my torch and went upstairs to see why it was taking her too long. When I entered the sitting room, the other children had slept and everywhere was quiet.

“So, I went towards the room and suddenly, my husband came out of the room naked and blocked the entrance with his hands. I asked him why he was blocking me but instead of answering me, he asked what I was looking for. So, I passed under his hand to see what was happening. To my greatest surprise, I found my daughter also naked on the floor. I saw my daughter’s panties close to the entrance. When I asked her what happened, she was about explaining when he slapped her and told her to keep quiet. I couldn’t hold it to myself, so I screamed and started shouting.

“His other children then came out and told me not to make noise about it so I wouldn’t disgrace their father, but I couldn’t keep it to myself. I slept in the shop with the two of them that night.” After series of threats from Salako’s children, some neighbours who later learnt about the incident, advised her to make a formal report at the police station two weeks later.

“I went to report at the Gowon Estate Police Division. Because of the way the man always pestered me for sex, I used to pray that God should help me so he could reduce his demands. So when he stopped asking, I thought my prayer had been answered not knowing that he had transferred his urge to my daughter.

“I didn’t know he could do that to my child even when he is not the father. This is the man I was married to for nine years. These days, anytime I come across him or his children, they keep threatening me.”

Stuck in frustration and utter depression, Felicia has been taking care of her children with the little money she gets when she helps people to wash their clothes, which she does occasionally.

“I’m willing to work but there is none,” she said. Tomilola has also been helping in sustaining the family with the little she earns from a canteen where she washes plates.

The Mum said Salako had been persuading her to come back home but she hasn’t relented in her resolve not to go back to him.

She said her 2 children are very sick and are in obvious need of urgent help and have not been able to go to school because of their situation.

While they continue to live in the unsafe kiosk, which is open to the severe weather conditions that SS patients should not be exposed to, Salako has remained a free man.

When Punch correspondent and Ogwu visited Salako’s house around Akinogun Bus Stop in Shagari Estate, a short distance from where Felicia now lives, he explained that Felicia moved out of the house for no reason known to him, saying he had been calling her to come back home. When asked about his arrest by the police, he admitted that he was arrested but refused to disclose the reason.
“As I’m speaking to you, I don’t know where she is. I didn’t do anything to her daughter. The money I’m paying to the police is the money she asked from me sometime ago. I’ve paid her N25,000 already,” he said.

Ogwu contacted the police to revisit the case and prosecute the suspect accordingly. She said:
“Rape is a crime, regardless of what the complainant says. That woman was helpless and she must have taken that decision under pressure, because she doesn’t have anybody to help her. We want people to help her because she really needs help, more so for the sake of her children.”
The Divisional Police Officer, Gowon Estate Police Station, CSP Festus Otabor, explained that the police had yet to find sufficient evidence to prosecute the suspect, adding that the woman had sworn to an affidavit not to press charges against her husband since there was no enough evidence to validate the allegation.

“When they came here, the woman was crying and begging us not to take him to court. So, now if she wants us to do that, she should come to us and we will look into it, but the test result didn’t produce sufficient evidence,” he added.
