mekuslogan is obviously in Govt, there only reference is the Sun newspaper. He has never slept in Aba and as such dont know what it takes to live there. The question of Faulks rd bn a Fed road does not arise, why did they have to "work" on it in 2008? You need to experience the hell commuters go thru to get to Ariaria main market. You paid #40 to board a bus from Brass Junction, swim or be backed(by professional backers) pass Ama Ikonne and you board another bus to Ariaria for another #40 or #50. Ariaria Market is the reason there is an Aba, tell me how do commerce thrive? As Mekuslogn where Eze Ikonne lives now LAST WEEK, BANKS MOVED TO MEND THE ROAD BUT THE STATE GOVT STOPPED THEM!!! Theodore Ahamefule Orji is the current Governor of Abia State. He was elected on May 29, 2007 amid widespread allegations of electoral fraud. Prior to his election, Orji, a career civil servant, served as the Chief of Staff to former Abia Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu. On February 25, 2008, Theodore Orji's election was annulled on the grounds that he was ineligible for office. Following his nomination as the gubernatorial candidate for the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA), Theodore Orji was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for his supposed involvement in looting the Abia State treasury [2] [3]. Though Orji's party claimed his arrest was politically motivated, the EFCC had substantial evidence to prove that Theodore Orji, along with three other senior Abia state officials in the Orji Kalu administration, facilitated the embezzlement of close to 40 billion Naira (320 million USD) on behalf of Orji Kalu, |

Politics / Ex-militants To Earn N27.3bn Allowance by nwaaba09: 4:43pm On Oct 10, 2009 |
With a monthly allowance of N65,000 for each of the envisaged 10,000 militants that would embrace the Federal Government's amnesty offer, over N27.3 billion may be spent on stipends alone over the 42-month period during which they would be trained and rehabilitated in several camps. The amount could be higher if the estimate of 15,000 militants is achieved. This is nearly three times the N10.14 billion earmarked for the exercise as amnesty programme moves to the phase of reintegrating repentant Niger Delta militants into the society. But for militants that failed to embrace the amnesty offer, the Federal Government will order a military attack on their strongholds to flush them out, just as investigations will be launched into the sources and sponsors of militancy in the Niger Delta region. Over 8,299 militants have been logged as having signed up to the peace deal ahead of the October 4 deadline for which N10.14 billion was earmarked for the payment of their allowances for the duration of the amnesty and rehabilitation programme. Each of them will receive N65,000 monthly while undergoing training in preparation for reintegration into the society. No wonder everybody owned up to been militants, if they earn higher name a graduate assistant(to say the lest) . Please, Asorock, wont you rather enlist them into the Nigerian Army and send them to Darfur? |

Politics / Abia "Gods Own State" by nwaaba09: 8:17pm On Oct 04, 2009 |
Historic facts about Abia State: Abia State was carved out of the former Imo State in 1991. The name "Abia" is an abbreviation of four of the state's densely populated regions Aba, Bende, Isuikwuato, and Afikpo. It is one of the thirty-six (36) States that constitute the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Abia people are of the Igbo ethnic group who predominates much of the Southeastern part of Nigeria. Their traditional language is Igbo. English is widely spoken and serves as the official language in governance and business. Globally, Igbos are well travelled. Abia's 2.4mm people are mainly Christians and entrepreneurial. They are known and reputed to be industrious, highly market oriented, very hospitable and accommodating, probably due to their migratory nature. Abia State, which occupies about 5834 square kilometers, is bounded on the north and northeast by the states of Anambra, Enugu, and Ebonyi. To the west of Abia is Imo State, the east and southeast are Cross River and Akwa Ibom States, and to the south is Rivers State. The southern part of the State lies within the riverine part of Nigeria. It is low-lying with a heavy rainfall of about 2400 mm/year especially intense between the months of April through October. The rest of the State is moderately high plain. The most important rivers in Abia State are the Imo and Aba rivers which flow into the Atlantic Ocean through the Niger Delta. |
