Politics / Northern Youths Give Tinubu Pass Mark, Assure President Of Support by o42198: 9:16am On Apr 24
Thousands of youths from the 19 Northern States have ranked President Bola Tinubu's administration highly in economy, security and pro-citizen policies.

The Progressive Northern Youth Forum (PNYF) made this known in its communique at the end of a two-day conference in Abuja on the state of the nation.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday in Abuja, national president, Hon. Isah Usman Jabbi, said President Tinubu’s economic policies have fostered growth, job creation, and investment which resonates with the aspirations of the North.

The communique added that the President has taken the necessary steps to address the issue of security across the region.

“President Tinubu’s signing of the Student Loan (Access to Higher Education) (Repeal and Re-enactment) Act, 2024 to enhance the implementation of the Higher Education Student Loan Scheme by improving the management structure of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELF),” it said.

“This singular development will the youth of the 19 Northern States to bridge the education gap, allowing them to get the education that will translate into the economic empowerment that will help the region to beat poverty.

“President Tinubu recognises the potential of our youth. His initiatives, such as vocational training programs, scholarships, and youth empowerment schemes, empower young Northerners to contribute meaningfully to society.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has displayed purposeful leadership in the country's governance with recognition of the strategic importance of northern Nigeria, hence the appointment of credible northerners in strategic leadership positions in the country.

“The Federal Government’s appointments into positions have, therefore, been fair to the North, which has helped maintain the spirit of fairness that Nigerians expect from the leadership of their country.

“Delegates also highlighted the passion with which President Bola Ahmed Tinunbu had interacted with key decision-makers in northern Nigeria on his administration's policies and programmes and how the region's development is central to delivering the Renewed Hope agenda in the country. “

The youths, however, expressed concerns at some persons claiming to speak for the North, who have been castigating President Tinubu over phantom mistreatment of the North.

“PNYF members reviewed the utterances of such leaders and concluded that at no time were they mandated to speak for the 19 Northern States, which makes their assertions null and void within the context of contemporary Nigeria,” it added.

“The northern region will support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu if he seeks reelection in 2027, and the north will vote massively for him. “

The youths, therefore, vowed to mobilise other youths across the North to rally behind President Tinubu’s leadership to build a stronger, more prosperous Nigeria.

Politics / Ondo AG Confirms Anti-graft Operations In Ondo State; Asserts Government Will No by o42198: 1:10pm On Apr 19
Ondo AG Confirms Anti-Graft Operations in Ondo State; Asserts Government Will Not Interfere In The Investigations.

The Attorney General & Commissioner for Justice of Ondo State, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo SAN OON, has confirmed that operations targeting fraud and financial crimes are currently taking place within the state. This confirmation comes after the recent announcement by the anti-graft agency declaring Mr. Wale Akinteriwa, a former commissioner and aspirant in the 2024 governorship election for the APC, as a wanted individual.

When questioned by journalists about ongoing investigations against individuals and corporations, Dr. Ajulo in affirmative however emphasized that the state government will not interfere with the operations of agencies such as the Police, EFCC, ICPC, and the Ondo State Public Complaint, Financial Crime and Anti-Corruption Commission.

He further stated that some of this petitions is about the State’s resources of which the State Public Complaint, Financial Crime and Anti-Corruption Commission by the extant law in operation is empowered to look into.

Dr. Ajulo further provided details, mentioning the influx of petitions he had received since assuming the role of Attorney General of Ondo State. These petitions, originating from citizens, civil society organizations, and even international entities, raise concerns about past government activities.

"Some petitions specifically implicate former government officials and associates, alleging misappropriation and signature forgery during the tenure of the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu," Ajulo remarked.

He also stated that various issues have emerged regarding alleged fraud committed using the name, approvals, and signatures of the late Governor Akeredolu by past and some present government officials.

One particular focus of these petitions revolves around a youth empowerment program involving artisans and market women, as well as the use of unauthorized agreements to defraud the government of Ondo State. Ajulo emphasized that the Ondo State Government operates based on laws and regulations, and entering into agreements with the government requires proper authorization and approval. When such authorization and approval are lacking, it raises serious concerns.

When pressed to disclose names, he said, "I discourage media trials. Naming names serves what purpose? The law applies to everyone, and at the appropriate time, if necessary, names will be revealed. The investigations must be thorough and unbiased. We are not concerned with names of who is being investigated but we are concern that the law must takes its course in whatever we’re doing.

Concluding his statement, Dr. Ajulo emphasized the government's stance: "We cannot obstruct any law enforcement agencies from conducting inquiries, as the Ondo State government is committed to upholding transparency and accountability in governance."

Politics / NNPP Passes Vote Of No Confidence On Gov Abba Yusuf by o42198: 7:44pm On Apr 15
....wants Kano Gov to resign within 48 hrs

Stakeholders of the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) in the 19 Northern States have passed a vote of no confidence on the Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf Abba.

The party chieftains under the aegis of Concerned NNPP Stakeholders said they have been left "disappointed with the path our beloved party is taking, especially in Kano State. "

This was contained in a communique issued on Monday and jointly signed by the President, Hon. Attahiru Musa, Secretary, Hon. Simon Pam, Chairman Communique Drafting Committee, Comr. Ibrahim Mustapha, and Secretary Communique Drafting Committee, Haj. Fatima Anuhi.

The stakeholders noted that the party has failed in Kano state, stressing that the NNPP leadership in the state has been "worse than the government at the centre and the previous administration."

They, therefore, pass a vote of no confidence on Governor Yusuf and "demand that he should sit up or resign with immediate effect."

The communique read inter alia: "Ascending to power in Kano State was no mean feat. The party succeeded in selling its philosophy to millions of citizens who craved a change from the old guards. Governor Abba Yusuf was considered as the fresh air to clear the mess of successive governments. To the ordinary resident, Abba was a messiah.

"Sadly, however, the NNPP leadership has been worse than the government at the centre and the previous administration. As stakeholders, we can no longer pretend that all is well when clearly, nothing is working. Kano State was supposed to be the model for the Federal Government to follow.

"It was supposed to be the epicentre of good governance and quality leadership. However, we have been left in disappointment, without a voice to challenge the APC government.

"The lack of party ideology and developmental plans for the masses.

"Painfully, there seems to be no clear ideology at the moment. Our party lacks developmental plans for the masses. Governor Yusuf seems to be on a personal vendetta against his predecessor while the masses suffer. He has sustained attacks on Alhaji Umar Ganduje as though he is not the governor.

"While he continues the witch-hunt, there has been nothing on the ground to justify the sharp increase in statutory allocations to the state since May 29, 2023, when President Bola Tinubu assumed office. What a shame!

"Through propaganda and the use of state-owned institutions, he tries to divert the attention of the people of the state from his inefficiency and cluelessness. Kano is now infamously known as the theatre of absurdity.

It added: "It is settled that Abba Yusuf Abba as governor has exposed the party to public ridicule through his inability to perform after one year. We, therefore, pass a vote of no confidence on him and demand that he should sit up or resign with immediate effect.

"He can not be chasing wind at the detriment of the state's growth and development. Subjecting the future of the party to possible rejection in subsequent elections.

"Number 5 of our party's objectives state: 'To provide the necessities of life, i.e qualitative mass education, free primary health care, food and water, housing, roads, security, economic empowerment for all Nigerians.' Unfortunately, none have been witnessed in Kano."

Politics / Ganduje: Gov Yusuf Lacks Clear Agenda, Progressing In Error - Northern Patriots by o42198: 4:30pm On Apr 14
The Northern Patriots (NP) has slammed Governor Abba Yusuf for lacking any clear blueprint or agenda for the people of Kano State.

Comrade Dominic Alancha, the national president of the group, made this known during an interview on TVC's Journalists Hangout on Sunday.

According to Alancha, the governor has instead resorted to a witch-hunt and political vendetta against his predecessor Alhaji Umar Ganduje all in the name of a probe.

Comrade Alancha said Governor Yusuf is progressing in error, adding that his perceived case against Ganduje is dead on arrival as it is not within the jurisdiction of the state to probe him.

The Northern Patriots, however, advised the governor to focus on governance and if indeed he wants to recover state funds, he should look the way of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso.

"It is unfortunate that Governor Abba Yusuf is progressing in error. Instead of focusing on advancing governance, he is out for a witch-hunt and political vendetta against his predecessor," he said.

"I don't think that he is aware that there is a judicial pronouncement on this matter. The state can't prosecute Ganduje, it is the responsibility of the federal high court.

"For me, this case is dead on arrival. If he's transparent enough, he should have gone back to 2011 or even beyond to probe his political godfather because there are a lot of accusations against Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso of corruption and misappropriation of state resources.

"For example, in 2011, there was a 5km contract purportedly allocated to each of the 44 LGAs. Unfortunately, to date, 1km of that road has not been constructed.

"If any probe is to be done, it should be based on transparency and accountability. But this whole case is diverting the attention of the people from seeking transparency and good governance from the governor.

"Abba has nothing to point out as his achievement in the last 11 months. Rather, he is busy setting up committees to probe his predecessor.

"I think it is proper for him to sit down and make his priorities known.  He should set out a clear agenda for the people.

Politics / The Metamorphosis Of Asari Dokubo: The Canon With Roses by o42198: 10:49am On Mar 04
By Esef Atan –Akpaniko

In the words of Henry Miller, “It is with the soul that we grasp the essence of another human being, not with the mind, nor even with the heart”

Asari Dokubo, a name that once resonated with militancy and the fight for environmental justice in the Niger Delta, has undergone a metamorphosis as profound as the lotus flower rising from the murky depths. Son of a retired judge, a man sculpted by the ideals of justice and stern discipline, Asari inherited a formidable moral compass. This compass, however, would point him on a path far more complex than anyone could have foreseen.

Asari, the devout Muslim, stands in stark contrast to his sister, Boma Goodhead, a Christian woman. Yet, despite their differing faiths, a shared stubborn streak for justice binds them. This unwavering commitment to principles transcends the often-divisive boundaries of tribe, religion, and politics. They are two sides of the same coin, forever marked by the imprint of their father's legacy.

But Asari's journey has been far from tranquil. The Niger Delta, a region ravaged by environmental degradation and economic exploitation, became the crucible that forged his activism. His fight for the rights of the region's people, initially peaceful, morphed into a militant struggle, a desperate cry for attention in a world that seemed deaf to their plight.

However, to reduce Asari to just his militant past is a gross oversimplification. He is a man of many facets – a firebrand and a scholar, a warrior and a poet. He is the canon that booms with righteous anger, but also the rose that blooms with the hope for a better tomorrow.

Asari's present-day pronouncements may surprise some. He advocates for peace and dialogue, urging a shift from violence to more constructive forms of resistance. This evolution is a testament to his growth, a recognition that true change often necessitates compromise and collaboration.
Asari Dokubo's story is a compelling narrative of transformation, a testament to the enduring power of justice and the unwavering pursuit of a better future. He is a complex figure, a man who embodies the contradictions of our times. But one thing remains certain – Asari Dokubo's legacy will be forever intertwined with the struggle for a more just and equitable Niger Delta, and Nigeria a cause that transcends the boundaries of tribe, religion, and even past actions.

Politics / Maida's Midas Touch At NCC by o42198: 11:04am On Mar 01
By Mary Odoma

Over the years, I have learned that making life progress depends on several factors. One of them is purpose. Without it, you might be mediocre—a common attribute in Nigeria. I took the time to research why leadership seems a mirage in the country with the avalanche of information that emanates in the public space on how some public officials have conducted themselves. Some have done well, and some have done poorly.

One who has done well is the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr Aminu Maida, a well-rounded information systems engineer who bagged a PhD in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from the University of Bath, United Kingdom.

Dr Maida's trajectory is filled with passion and purpose. When he was appointed to lead the NCC in this critical period, a segment of the country tried to cast aspersion on his personality. They used his age as a yardstick and insinuated that he got the job on the recommendation of a godfather somewhere. And not based on competence.

As funny as this might sound, the speculation was rife in the media. Unfortunately, some believed the narrative. But those of us conversant with his trajectory celebrated. We knew his worth and what he would bring to the table in revamping the telecommunication sector.

Dr Maida is media-shy. But he is a formidable personality. One that does not mince words. He is also a very passionate individual who knows nothing but excellence. He allows his actions to speak for him. And this much he has done since his appointment. Industry stakeholders are beginning to see that he is a man on a mission. And a mission to revamp the sector.

Those who had reservations initially are now converts to the Maida's school of purpose. Interestingly, they are now his advocates because of the laudable reforms he has introduced within a short period. He has matched his words with action. There are no sacred cows, and no player in the industry is above the law.

For example, the NCC mandated Glo and MTN to bar telephone subscribers not linked to their National Identification Numbers on or before February 28, 2024. This indicates a man on a mission to re-position the sector for optimal results.

President Bola Tinubu got it right with his appointment. The numerous reforms introduced speak volumes about a man on a mission to make things work. He does not have to grace the pages of newspapers to prove he can deliver on the mandate of the NCC.

Suppose a fraction of those holding public offices have the same disposition and work ethic as Dr Aminu Maida. In that case, the country will experience tremendous growth and development.

There is no doubt that he has the Midas touch. Everything he touches turns to gold. I won't go into details about his exploits in his career. It has been brilliant, which he has brought to the table at the NCC.

I recall an incident where the Chairman of the Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), Engr Gbenga Adebayo, welcomed the new EVC and prayed that his name, Maida, would help him offer a Midas touch that would transform the sector for good.

He was not wrong. Dr Aminu Maida has offered the Midas touch in the operations of the NCC since he took over the helm of affairs. The NCC has assumed its regulatory role in the telecoms sector through actions and policies conforming to world standards.

Another example of Dr Maida's Midas touch is that Nigeria has witnessed a steady increase in active voice and internet subscriptions, including a drop in teledensity as contained in the latest telecommunications statistical indicators released by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), which have been adjusted to reflect the latest population growth figures and align with international best practices.

The entire world is rapidly gravitating toward a system of economy anchored on the continuous and ubiquitous availability of information. Recent advances in
telecommunications technology have been essential in permitting information exchange to develop as a valuable commodity. This is what Dr Aminu Maida represents.

Giving him a pass mark may be too early in the day. I disagree using the idiomatic expression that states, "Morning is an important time of day because how you spend your morning can often tell you what kind of day you are going to have"

Dr Aminu Maida hit the ground running. He knows that there is a lot at stake if he acts otherwise. Interestingly, he has succeeded in getting stakeholders to buy into the telecoms sector. I can bet that there is more from his stable. Nigerians should expect a revamped telecommunication sector in the years ahead.

I encourage him to leave no stone unturned. The stakes are too high for a mediocre performance at this critical point of our existence. He has started on a high note, and nothing short of the best would be accepted.

As the various rulings of Nigeria’s Apex court takes center stage, the resounding optimism reflects the trust and hope invested in Governor Abiodun's leadership, by the people of Ogun State.

Governor Dapo Abiodun's tenure has been marked by a commitment to development, infrastructure, and inclusive governance. The people of Ogun State have witnessed firsthand the positive impact of his policies, which have not only improved the socio-economic fabric but have also fostered a sense of unity and progress.

While the electoral season came around in March 2023, the electorate of Ogun State displayed their overwhelming support for Governor Abiodun, recognizing his dedication to the welfare of the people and the advancement of the state. The ballot boxes bore witness to the aspirations and dreams of a community that yearned for continuity in the trajectory of development set forth by the incumbent governor.

However, the journey towards electoral victory did not end at the polling booths. Challenges and uncertainties emerged, casting a shadow of doubt on the electoral process. In the aftermath of the election, as legal processes unfolded, the confidence of the people shifted to the judicial system. The Supreme Court of Nigeria, revered as the ultimate arbiter in matters of constitutional significance, became the focal point of hope for Governor Abiodun's supporters. The trust in the judiciary as the final bastion of justice underscored the faith that justice would prevail and validate the people's choice.

It is crucial for the citizens of Ogun State to remain steadfast in their conviction and not be swayed by scaremongering tactics that may attempt to undermine the confidence in the impending Supreme Court judgment. The legal process demands patience and trust in the institutions that safeguard the democratic ideals we hold dear.

As we await the Supreme Court's verdict, it is imperative for the people of Ogun State to unite in solidarity and maintain a sense of calm. 2024 Budget: NASS Leadership, Appropriation Chairmen Recommended for National Honours

For putting in utmost patriotism in the build up to the passage of the 2024 Appropriation Bill; a foremost Civil Society Group in Africa has recommended the leadership of the National Assembly to be honored by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Centre for Africa Liberation and Socio- Economic Rights (CALSER), in a press statement signed on Sunday by Dr. Michael Adama, the Executive Director, also acknowledged the Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation, Senator Adeola Solomon Olamilekan and his House of Representatives counterpart, Hon. Abubakar Bichi, as those worthy of national honours.

According to CALSER, "this is the first time Nigerians would witness a Legislature that is not only patriotic, but has also decided to place national interest far above their personal interests".

It said that, "if civil servants do get commendations and promotions when given targets and they deliver, the Lawmakers should also be applauded for delivering on their promises"; adding that, "they could have adjourned during the festive period and gone home to their families, like any other person and nothing would have happened to them".

The Centre specifically lauded the Speaker of House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, whom it described as the "Star Boy" of the 2024 Budget..

"The Honourable Speaker, His Excellency, RT. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas (Ph.D) is actually the Star Boy of the 2024 Appropriation Act.

"When the Bill was presented by President Bola Tinubu, we had entertained fears and worries that the House of Representatives, with over 130 standing committees would be the albatross of the process. We had expressed worry over how the House would critically interface with all the agencies they oversight and scrutinize their budget estimates in less than one month and come out clean.

"We remember then that we had to assign our Country Director to personally monitor the progression at the House. But we were shocked at the quality of leadership the Speaker provided. He put the Appropriation Committee on its toes and caused the Chairmen of various committees to burn their candles in the office into late nights, including weekends", the Centre added.

It stressed the need to cultivate the tradition of a strong reward system which could help strengthen the performance of public office holders and civil servants, saying, giving them national recognition by the President would only make the 2025 Appropriation Bill and other sensitive executive Bills a thing of urgent national interest, "unlike what we were used to in the past".

It would be recalled that President Tinubu signed the 2024 Appropriation Bill of N28.7tr on Monday, 1st January, 2024.

This was coming barely 48 hours, after the lawmakers, during a special plenary session on Saturday, 30th December, 2023, passed the budget, which was N1.27 trn more than the N27.5 trn proposed by President Tinubu.

Tinubu had presented a budget of N27.5 trillion to a joint section of the National Assembly on November 29 in Abuja. The both Chambers had summarily done justice to the Bill within one month and passed it.

CIVIL SOCIETY RALLY ROUND INTERIOR MINISTER, HON. TUNJI-OJO; URGE PRESIDENT TINUBU TO DISREGARD CALLS FOR HIS SACK

Amid the recent strident media campaign calling for the sack of the Honourable Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Coalition of Civil Society Groups in Nigerian has thrown its weigh solidly behind the Minister, describing him as one of the best performing cabinet ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under the esteemed leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a press statement signed by its Secretary General, Com. Osabinu Olufemi, the Coalition observed that the sinister plot against Hon. Tunji-Ojo is being hatched in the media by an amorphous clandestine cabal using pseudonyms and phantom organizations, with the aim of mounting concerted pressures on President Tinubu to sack the minister over spurious allegations of financial impropriety and breach of trust.

The Coalition further stated that knowing they have no legal or moral basis to crucify Hon. Tunji-Ojo on account of his stewardship to the nation, his detractors elected to link him up with the embattled suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, over a contract awarded by her ministry to a company in which Hon. Tunji-Ojo is currently a mere shareholder.

“While we frown at the calculated attempt to ridicule Hon. Tunji-Ojo’s tireless efforts to serve the nation and contribute his decent quota towards improving the overall security and well-being of Nigerians, we must state that we are not attempting to save his job as a cabinet minister, because his job is not actually under threat. Given the personality, integrity and experience of Mr. President, we know he cannot be swayed by the mendacities and sentiments of Hon. Tunji-Ojo’s masquerading traducers” stated the Coalition.

The Coalition, which noted that Hon. Tunji-Ojo’s enemies were using the media space to lower his estimation before right-thinking members of the public, stated that it wishes to set the record straight and forestall further attempts by mischievous shadow elements to mislead the Nigerian public by disparaging honest, hardworking and progressive public office holders.

In the statement, Com. Osabinu, who was a former President of Nigeria’s apex student body, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), further urged President Bola Tinubu to ignore the barrage of unfounded allegations against Hon. Tunji-Ojo by his desperate enemies, while encouraging the Honourable Minister to equally disregard his detractors and remain focused and steadfast in serving the nation as a cabinet minister, and in any other existing capacity, even as they assured him of their staunch support and solidarity.

“He should rest assured that our coalition, along with countless other Nigerians that are aware of his assiduous efforts and contributions to national development, are solidly behind him,” stated Com. Osabinu.

“In any case, if the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation had actually issued a contract to a company in which Hon. Tunji-Ojo is an ordinary shareholder, should the focus not be on the due process and transparency in the award of the contract by the ministry, and its execution by the company? Must Hon. Tunji-Ojo dispose of all his shares and stocks in private companies just because he is taking up a ministerial appointment? Or is a company that has a cabinet minister as one of its shareholders not eligible to bid for any government contract in Nigeria, knowing very well that the government in literally every country is the highest paying client?,” enquired the Coalition.

The Coalition further expressed the view that Hon. Tunji-Ojo had not only demonstrated exceptional competence and dedication to his duties since he assumed office as the Hon. Minister of Interior about five months ago, but had also clearly proven himself to be a man of impeccable honesty, transparency and accountability, as evidenced in the laudable reforms he has engineered in the Ministry of Interior and its various Departments, Agencies and Parastatals.

“From implementing key reforms to enhance security, to spearheading initiatives that foster national unity, the minister’s accomplishments have been pivotal in shaping a better Nigeria for future generations, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu,” stated the Coalition.

The civil society group opined that Hon. Tunji-Ojo was a stickler for accountability and transparency, adding that he did not hesitate to order a full probe of an intelligence report on the misconduct of some men of the Nigerian Correctional Service, (NCoS), after the Chief of Defense Staff alleged before the House of Reps that some personnel of the service connived with inmates to finance the operations of proscribed terrorist groups.

“…at the 60th Anniversary of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) held last year, the Service informed that it had proposed the issuance of an Economic Trust Visa, through which it will assist interested investors to verify the profiles of their prospective partners. In addition, more passport offices are being opened across the country, while all passport processes are being automated to minimize human contact and its natural tendency to fuel corruption.

“The NIS under Minister Ojo has introduced extensive reforms by deploying IT to drive its operations and equip itself to cope with future challenges of trans-border migration. The service was the first in Africa to key into the latest international reforms in travel documents, which earned it the award of, “Best Performing Agency in Ease of Doing Business” by the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council in 2023. This was in view of the current ease in the issuance of travel documents, international passports to Nigerians both at home and abroad and the issuance of residence permits to foreigners. E-border Management, Passport Reforms and Staff Welfare, the three main focus areas of the NIS, have received unprecedented attention under the current Minister,” stated the Coalition.

The Coalition reeled out more of Hon. Tunji-Ojo’s achievements as Minister of Interior to include the release of over 4,000 inmates who were sentenced to various years of imprisonment with option of fine and compensation towards decongesting the nation’s prisons; the immediate deployment of undercover agents by the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps to schools and host communities to enhance security in schools nationwide under the auspices of the National Safe Schools Response Coordination Centre (NSSRCC), which is the first of its kind in Africa, amongst several others.

“Even the United Nations, through the UN Resident Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr. Matthias Schmale, recently commended Hon. Tunji-Ojo on the basis of his stellar performance,” stated Com. Osabinu.

Com. Osabinu further stated that their Coalition comprises concerned and patriotic Nigerian citizens, who have a moral responsibility to rally behind individuals who consistently exhibit a strong sense of duty, integrity, and effectiveness. “It is therefore incumbent on us to lend our unwavering support to the Minister of Interior in the face of relentless cowardly attacks on his person and office by unidentifiable amoebic entities,” stated Com. Osabinu.

The Coalition concluded by imploring all Nigerians to dismiss the baseless allegations against the Minister of Interior, and stand in solidarity with him against the phantom individuals and organizations that are seeking his head on a platter. They prayed the public to rather focus on the tangible accomplishments the Hon. Minister of Interior has made in meritorious service to the nation, as by so doing, they can reaffirm their commitment to the progress, unity, and development of Nigeria.

Signed,

Comrade Osabinu Olufemi,
NATIONAL SECRETARY GENERAL

Plateau Killings: Group Lauds Tinubu, Humanitarian Affairs Minister Over Timely Response

Plateau Humanitarian Vanguard (PHV), a social-cultural group in the North Central zone of Nigeria, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, for swiftly coming to the aide of the affected communities in the recent attacks in Plateau State.

The Vanguard, in a press statement Wednesday night, said, such humanitarian interventions, in the face of hunger and displeasure caused by the attacks, may though not compensate for the lost lives, but "can give the people the sense of belonging and ameliorate the momentous pains occasioned by the unfortunate attacks".

No fewer than 200 people were killed by marauding gunmen in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi local government areas of Plateau State on Christmas eve.

At least two persons were also killed in a renewed attack by assailants in Durbi village of Shere district, Jos East local government area, late Saturday night, barely one week after the first attack.

Dr. Edu, had in a condolence message to the people of Plateau after the attack, said government would mobilize immediate support to affected communities.

A statement by the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mr. Mohammed Idris, on the 28th December, 2023, also quoted the President as directing the "Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and other relevant agencies to work with the Plateau State Government to deliver immediate humanitarian relief to the affected communities".

Consequently, Dr. Edu caused distributions of food and non-food relief materials to the victims of the attacks in Plateau State yesterday.

The Minister who also visited affected communities for an on-the-spot assessment of the affected area with her counterpart from the Ministry of Defence and Service Chiefs was on the ground to coordinate Hummanitarian Responses as directed by President Tinubu.

Reacting to the development through a statement on Wednesday, Comrade Jonah Pam, President of Plateau Humanitarian Vanguard, said the timely response of the federal government through the Humanitarian Affairs Minister, has given the people hope in the Asiwaju administration.

"This quick humanitarian interventions mean a lot to the people. Alot is already happening to the displaced people already and we definitely believe that any little support from government, individuals and organisations would go a long way to cushion the pains.

"We believe that no amount of humanitarian interventions can bring back our loved ones; but we also know this is not the first of such attacks in the past. What we normally get from the government at the central is a well crafted and rehearsed press statement, condemning the attack. And it ends there.

"At least, the coming of Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu as President of Nigeria has shown them how things should be done in this situation.

"We also pray that it does not end in providing humanitarian interventions. The security agencies, especially the military, should live above board and get the perpetrators to pay for the heinous crime. It is a genocide against our people and we would not like it to sleep, as usual", Comrade Pam said.

The statement also called on international Humanitarian organisations, local organisations and well spirited individulas not to leave the welfare and wellbeing of displaced persons in the aftermath of the killings to the Federal Government alone.

Navy Should Be Commended For Fight Against Crude- Oil Theft - Reps Deputy Spokesman

The Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Hon. Chief Philip Agbese, has dismissed the allegations of the Nigerian Navy’s involvement in crude oil theft in the Niger Delta region. He said that the Navy should rather be commended for playing a vital role in securing the nation’s maritime domain and combating illegal activities such as piracy, smuggling, and oil bunkering.

He exonerated the Nigerian Navy of any complicity in crude oil theft as far as the country's coastal waters are concerned. He said as a patriot he felt obliged to commend the Nigerian Navy on its fight against crude oil theft especially for their sacrifices.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, Chief Agbese said that the recent reports of the Navy’s complicity in crude oil theft were baseless, and aimed at tarnishing the image and reputation of the Navy and its personnel. He said that there is no evidence to support the claims, which have now been confirmed to have emanated from non-state actors who are interested in usurping the roles of legitimate government agencies in the oil exploration areas.

He said, "The Nigerian Navy is a professional and patriotic institution that has been performing its constitutional duties with diligence and integrity. The Navy has been at the forefront of the fight against crude oil theft and other maritime crimes in the Niger Delta and other parts of the country. The Navy has also been collaborating with other security agencies and stakeholders to ensure the protection of our national assets and interests, which is particularly important at a time when Nigeria needs to capture every last bit of revenue.

"It is therefore unfortunate and unfair that some people are trying to malign the Navy and its officers with false and malicious accusations of being involved in crude oil theft. These allegations are not only baseless but also disrespectful to the sacrifices and contributions of the Navy to the nation’s security and development. The situation is made sadder when we realize that certain non-state actors are peddling these falsehoods as part of their strategy for taking over the roles of the Nigerian Navy and other government agencies.

"We have been able to confirm these allegations to be false and unsubstantiated. We have also interacted with the Chief of Naval Staff, the Flag Officers Commanding the various Naval Commands, and other senior officers of the Navy, and we are satisfied with their explanations and responses. We now expect that the Navy will ride on this vote of confidence to go after the oil thieves as it had always done.

“We, therefore, urge the public to disregard these allegations and support the Navy in its efforts to safeguard our maritime domain and curb illegal activities that some unscrupulous people want to thrive in these places. We also commend the Navy for its professionalism and dedication, and we assure them of our continued support and oversight.”

Chief Agbese also appealed to the media to be responsible and factual in their reportage and to avoid sensationalism and misinformation that could undermine the morale and confidence of the Navy and other security agencies. He said that the House of Representatives will continue to monitor the situation and ensure that the Navy and other security agencies are adequately funded and equipped to perform their duties effectively.
Politics / Aviation: Does Keyamo Have The Midas Touch? by o42198: 5:54am On Jan 04
By Adebayo Adeniyi

Festus Keyamo is a known name in Nigeria, a vocal voice on national issues, even before his foray into politics. I recall I had reservations when he veered into politics as a minister under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019. Initially, it was a bumpy ride. At first, he was Minister of State, Niger Delta, and barely a month, he was redeployed to the Ministry of Labour and Productivity. That move was a reflection of his personality. He was not going to lay low; he was going to speak. I guessed former President Muhammadu Buhari was not ready for the drama that would have ensued.

The above is history, as he is the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development in this dispensation. There is something about Festus Keyamo. Everything revolves around his personality, one that is not afraid to speak or take the bull by its horns. His appointment as the aviation and aerospace development minister could not have come at a better time.

We must agree that the aviation sector in Nigeria needs to be fixed. The rot has gone on for several years and under successive governments. The sector was held by the jugular by some vested interests, and it needed a strong voice and personality to confront the cabal and turn things around. This much he has started.

There would be hullabaloo on some of his moves, but it doesn't take away that he is a man on a mission. Some policy statements from the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development have been positive. It is more of cleaning the Augean stable. Some have asked if Festus Keyamo can sustain the tempo without getting consumed. And I asked in return, consumed by who and what?

I don't see that happening. The chances are very slim. You would understand my position if you are conversant with his history. His beliefs are fierce as long as they resonate with the collective. For example, the suspension of the Nigeria Air project. His position was simple: "It would be "irresponsible "of the Federal Government to follow through on a deal that gives monopoly of Nigeria's aviation industry to a foreign entity."

That is how a leader should act, so long it is in the best interest of the collective. More actions have been taken that are outside the public space. That is why I call him the man with the Midas touch. Anything he touches turns to gold. You don't have to agree with this position, but it is what it is. This is what is needed to turn things around in that sector.

One such move is the overhaul of the leadership of agencies in the aviation sector. Did you take the time to look at the quality of the appointments? It was a list of experts with tangible track records. The quality of these appointments would address some of the issues that have held the sector down.

It was a strategic move because all the directors in the agencies were replaced and assigned with sound minds that would hit the ground running. Even though it might seem early to give him a pass mark, all's well that ends well. This is the story of Fetus Keyamo in his quest to turn around the critical aviation sector. Some of his decisions might be harsh, especially when options are limited. What options do we have to revamp the aviation sector? The only option is to take the bull by the horns, which he has done so far.

You don't have to like his face. I wonder if he even notices it. He does not need any individual validation. He knows his onions and has displayed an unalloyed commitment in this regard. This much the President recognized before his appointment. Remember that at some point, the President noted that Keyamo's life is hallmarked by service to the country and his people. What other validation could he ask for?

That is what is needed to turn things around in the country. We need Nigerians with the guts and the sincerity of heart and purpose. Let's make no mistakes; addressing the challenges in Nigeria requires a tough stance and decisions, and I am glad Fetus Keyamo has started on this note.

The aviation sector is pivotal to national and global economies, creating job opportunities and stimulating economic activity. Nigeria can't be left out. Festus Keyamo’s stance is not vendetta. It is putting issues in the proper perspective in the country's interest.

Undoubtedly, Festus Keyamo has taken the bull by the horns. The prospects in aviation are enormous. The right man is at the helm of affairs. He is primed to lead and address the challenges in the sector. He has the confidence of the President and key stakeholders in the aviation sector. It is expected that discerning stakeholders in the industry should join hands with him to re-position the aviation sector for optimal productivity.

He has the Midas touch, and the aviation sector would boom. The indices are rife, thanks to the dexterity of the Honourable Minister for Aviation and Aerospace Development.

Presidential palliative loans & grants: House Committee on SME meets Finance & Coordinating Minister of the economy

In furtherance of its determination to see to the timely implementation of the small and medium enterprises component of the presidential palliative grants and loans, the House Committee on SME led by its Chairman, Rep. Mansur Manu Soro today met with Mr. Wale Edun, Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Economy to ascertain the extent of funding and releases made to implementing MDAs.

The House Committee had previously met with other officials including the Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs Doris Anite, Accountant General of the Federation and DG/CEO of SMEDAN, Mr. Charles Odii in this regard.

The 10th House of Representatives under the leadership of Right Honorable Tajudden Abass, PhD places high premium on SME development, hence its decision to create a standing committee on SME to ensure effective oversight of the SME activities and programs of line MDAs

The presidential palliative grants and loans which comes in 3 tranches of N50,000 grants to 1million nano businesses, N100,000 - N1million and N75billion to manufacturers are due for disbursement anytime soon.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu directed for the implementation of palliatives to cushion the effects of the removal of petrol subsidy across the agricultural, transportation, social safety and SME sectors of the economy in July 2023 and subsequently, the House of Representatives resolution mandating its committee on SME to interface with officials of government responsible to ensure timely and effective implementation of the palliative.

Politics / Group Demands Reversal Of Court Order Restraining Rivers Gov Fubara From Perform by o42198: 9:47am On Dec 11, 2023
Group demands reversal of court order restraining Rivers Gov Fubara from performing official functions

A group, Coalition for Truth and Justice has demanded for the reversal of the restraining order by a Federal High Court in Abuja against the Rivers State Government in performing some of its statutory responsibilities in the state.

Recall that a Federal High Court in Abuja recently restrained the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara and others from obstructing the State House of Assembly from performing its statutory duties, removing or transferring the Clerk and the Deputy Clerk of the House.

However, reacting to the restraining order at a press conference on Sunday, December 10, 2023, the Coalition for Truth and Justice said the order "tells it all for the discerning mind" that there has been some level of interference in the governance of Rivers State.

The Executive Director, Dr. Joyce Ogwu, who addressed the press, said it was sad that the "Judiciary has elected to be blind to the reality in the country, hence some court orders that defeat common sense. There is a place of jurisdiction on matters; One of such is what happened in a Federal High Court restraining order in Rivers State."

Dr. Ogwu said, "As a Coalition for Truth and Justice, we find it hard to believe that a Federal High Court would elect to play to the gallery by issuing such an unwarranted court order that depicts a mockery of the judicial process in Nigeria.

"A suit was filed against the Governor of Rivers State in Abuja. A restraining order was granted that is akin to putting the Governor of Rivers State out in the open for his crucifixion by some vested interest in the state.

"It is instructive to state that the restraining order by the Federal High Court was done in poor taste. It was to serve a purpose which is not in the interest of the generality of the people of Rivers State.

"This has been the norm since the inauguration of Governor Sim Fubura's administration. This has been further confirmed through the instrumentality of the Court, which is meant to be the common man's hope in seeking justice. But this case is injustice.

"The Coalition for Truth and Justice is afraid that the Judiciary is now for sale to the highest bidder, and the implication is that the commoner has to look elsewhere for elusive justice.

"We believe the Federal High Court overreached itself in abdicating in a matter entirely outside its jurisdiction. The matter in question is within the jurisdiction of the National Industrial Court.

"The Federal High Court does not have jurisdiction to adjudicate in a matter of allocation of resources in a state. If that is the case, why would a Federal High Court give a restraining order preventing the Rivers State government from its statutory responsibilities?

"This is the reality and our position is that Nigeria is gradually heading for the abyss. If urgent steps are not taken, we might wake up one day, and there would be a court order on eating or sleeping at night.

"The Coalition for Truth and Justice frowns at the recent court order in Rivers State. It is misplaced, malicious, and counterproductive. It is a total abuse and disregard for the rule of law.

"It is our view that such illegality should not be allowed to stand. It is a gross insult to our sensibilities as a people. We are tempted to ask where the country is heading with the manner of judgment and restraining orders from our courts.

"For example, the Court also restrained Governor Sim Fubara from removing or transferring the Clerk and Deputy Clerk of the Rivers State House of Assembly. What is the business of a Federal High Court in the appointment and otherwise of the clerk of a State House of Assembly?

"The gang up against the people of Rivers State has assumed a new dimension with the active involvement of the Judiciary. This portends grave danger for our nascent democracy.

"The Coalition for Truth and Justice calls on the relevant authorities to look into the anomalies perpetuated by the courts in Nigeria. It is becoming a banana republic where anything goes to the highest bidder.

"The presiding judge erred substantially by adjudicating a matter outside its jurisdiction. In the eyes of the law, the action stands invalid. The High Court arrogated to itself the powers of the National Industrial Court.

"We are calling for a reverse of the court order by the Federal High Court on Rivers state in suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/1613/2023 before Justice JK Omotosho of the Federal High Court Abuja.

"We desire that the matter be looked into again in the interest of justice before we sink into the abyss."

I write to pay my final respects to a remarkable individual, Chief Comrade Frank Ovie Kokori. His recent passing fills my hearts with sorrow, for I have lost another true champion of the people.

Frank Kokori was not only a prominent figure in the Nigerian labor movement but also a relentless advocate for justice and democracy. His unwavering commitment to the cause remained steadfast until his last breath.

Frank Kokori's illustrious journey began long ago, where he, with the likes of Comrade Honorable Joseph Akinlaja played an instrumental role in the historic June 12 struggle. When the presidential election held on that fateful day was nullified, Chief Kokori stood tall among those who fought tirelessly against this injustice. He believed in the rightful victory of Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola and dedicated himself to the cause of restoring democracy to our great nation.

For many of us, Chief Kokori was more than just a leader; he was a mentor who inspired and guided us in the pursuit of our convictions. As a young law undergraduate at the University of Jos, I personally had the privilege of being influenced by his wisdom and tenacity. Chief Kokori imparted upon me the importance of standing up for what I believed in and instilled in me the courage to fight for justice. Even until his last days, he never ceased to communicate with me, offering guidance and support.

Chief Kokori's impact extended far beyond his role as the former General Secretary of NUPENG. He was a beacon of hope for the marginalized and oppressed, a voice for the voiceless. He fearlessly championed the rights of workers, tirelessly advocating for their welfare and fair treatment. His dedication to improving the lives of ordinary Nigerians will forever be remembered and cherished.

In Chief Kokori, I have lost not only a leader but also a friend, a mentor, and a guiding light. His legacy will continue to inspire countless individuals to stand up for justice, to fight for the rights of the downtrodden, and to strive for a better future. As I bid farewell to a remarkable soul, let us take solace in the knowledge that Chief Comrade Frank Kokori's contributions will forever be etched in the annals of our nation's history.

May his soul find eternal rest, and may his memory be a source of strength and inspiration for us all.

Politics / Alia Not Prepared To Govern Benue - Group by o42198: 9:27am On Dec 07, 2023
The New Benue Development Agenda (NBDA) says Governor Hyacinth Alia's first six months in office is the worst in the state since the return of democracy in 1999.

Describing Governor Alia as unprepared for governance and without a clear blueprint, the group said the priest-turned-politician is the most lackluster of all governors elected into office.

The NBDA, which made this known in a statement signed by its President Dr. Tersoo Hwande in Lagos on Thursday, said it came to this conclusion after an extensive analysis of Alia's administration.

Hwande lamented that the governor has failed to live up to expectations and instead of delivering on his campaign promises, he has taken up unnecessary battles against perceived critics, stakeholders, and his party members.

He said Alia's arrogance, ineptitude, pride, and all-knowing attitude have taken Benue State backward by over two decades, adding that hunger and hardship have doubled.

Hwande regretted that there is no tangible project to show since this administration came on board other than failed promises, lopsided appointments, and marginalisation.

The New Benue Development Agenda, therefore, called on Alia to prioritise the citizens by engaging them and stakeholders on the way forward perhaps in the form of town hall meetings.

The group said the governor must drop his over-bloated ego and admit that mistakes have been made in appointments, award of contracts, and general conduct.

"Governor Alia's election was seen as a sigh of relief. Being a Catholic priest, he was likened to the Biblical Moses who will take us to the Promised Land," the statement said.

"We all campaigned for him. We mobilised our members from Lagos and other parts of the country to return home in support of the YesFather movement.

"However, six months later, we are ashamed of the same man. As critical stakeholders, we are compelled to make this public statement as our numerous private messages to His Excellency have fallen on deaf ears.

"At first, we thought the governor was on a steep learning curve and the ship of the state would be righted and put on the course being an unfamiliar terrain for him. But unfortunately, Alia is not ready to learn or accept his mistakes.

"The governor has become so power-drunk that he is now inaccessible to the electorate, stakeholders, and even his party members. Shame! Effective governance is about feedback and criticism. No one knows it all.

"Alia singlehandedly picked his advisers and commissioners. The appointments were done in a lopsided manner. Three months after their inauguration, some reportedly have no official cars, some without offices. No surprise we have heard of resignations.

"Alia has so far made empty promises with no tangible project. In September 2023, the government promised to train 10,000 youths in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) through the initiative dubbed ‘Benue Go-Digital.’ The initiative was touted as a means to empower the youth, create employment opportunities, and alleviate poverty in the state. However, three months have passed, and the much-anticipated ICT training is yet to commence, leaving many hopeful youths disillusioned and disheartened.

"On August 1, during the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch B Stream one Orientation course at the NYSC Orientation Camp Wannune, Tarka, Alia proudly declared that each NYSC member serving in the state would begin to receive a monthly allowance of N15,000. There are many other 'audio promises'.

"Should we talk about his controversial contracts? According to Sahara Reporters, Alia spent whopping amounts in just four months in office awarding fictitious contracts which are ongoing. Between May 29 and September 30th, he was reported to have received and spent more than N46 billion of state resources, prominent among which is the duplication of contracts for the procurement of Hummer buses as palliative measures.

"Another sign of the governor's ineptitude is his perceived long hours of prayer sessions during the day, which have resulted in delayed or canceled official engagements. Shame! Even the Bible in James 2:26 says faith without works is dead.

"We are not even debating over the obviously contentious local government caretaker committees. All we want is for Alia to wake up from his slumber. He can read Proverbs 24 vs 33 and 34."

Alleged Forgery of Akeredolu's Signature: Unmasking Impersonators Shielding Forgers

By Allen Sowore, Esq.

On December 4, 2023, Dr. Kayode Ajulo, recently appointed as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, raised grave concerns on Arise Television. He alleged that certain officials within the Ondo state government have been signing official documents using the name of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu SAN CON. This accusation lends weight to my earlier claims that certain members of the administrative circle have been forging the governor's signature to grant approvals for projects and programmes, primarily for their personal gain. In fact, credible information indicates that at least seven commissioners have obtained approvals with these forged signatures over the past five months.

In their customary manner of concealing such wrongdoing, the Chief Press Secretary, now serving as the spokesperson for the Cabal, hastily released a statement to refute these obvious facts. Although the press statement was swiftly removed from various news media platforms, some outlets are still treating it as the official government response.

As Dr. Kayode Ajulo highlighted in the notable interview, the prevailing assumption is that Governor Akeredolu is either absent or a victim of a political gang — even if he communicates from his unknown location his statements might be deemed involuntary, obtained under duress, inducement, or promise of reward. Therefore, it is only logical and imperative for the governor himself to step forward to address all speculations regarding his status and dismiss allegations of a forged signature.

Anyone issuing statements on behalf of the governor is, by extension, an impostor, an usurper, and an impersonator who should face interrogation and subsequent punishment. Both sections 108 and 467 of the Criminal Code address impersonation and forgery, with subsection 3(a) specifically addressing the forging of the President's or a Governor's signature, carrying a sentence of fourteen years' imprisonment.

Let's hypothetically assume that the governor indeed instructed someone to issue the aforementioned rebuttal. The assertion that only the governor can raise concerns about his forged signature lacks logic. As the governor whose signature authorizes government transactions, any individual, government agency, or public institution handling sensitive government documents has the right to question perceived irregularities in the governor's signature. Most importantly, it's a global best practices that every patriotic citizen reports or alert security agencies about the commission of a crime.

The Chief Press Secretary also ignorantly demanded evidence from Dr. Kayode Ajulo SAN regarding the forged signatures. It's crucial to educate that the presentation of evidence and the prosecution of defendants occur in court, not necessarily through newspaper publications.

Names of certain civil servants actively involved in this matter are surfacing, shedding light on the reasons why the Adviser on Special Duty and Union Matters, Dare Aragbaye, consistently maintains his brother-in-law's presence in the Government House and Protocols, following the departure of the former Permanent Secretary, now a prominent traditional ruler.

Moreover, a diligent Protocol Officer, who supposedly sought Governor Akeredolu's approvals for files taken to Ogbese River, is now perturbed by these unfolding revelations.

There is a popular Yoruba phrase in Christendom that loosely translates to "no sinner shall go unpunished." Elese kan kọ̀nilo laijiya.
Politics / 2024 Appropriation Bill As Acid Test For Bichi by o42198: 10:30am On Dec 05, 2023
By Philip Agbese

A lot has been said about the 2024 budget proposal submitted to the National Assembly by President Bola Tinubu. I recall a mention of an empty budget submitted without details. I struggle to come to terms with such a position. It is a no-brainer. However, we must be assured that there is no way such would work, not even in a banana republic.

As a member of the House of Representatives, I am aware that the budget proposal submitted came with the necessary details on income and expenditures. Let no one be troubled. The onus should be shifted to the House Committee on Appropriation headed by Hon Abubakar Kabir Bichi to do what is needed to scrutinize the budget proposal adequately.

This is indeed an acid test for the Appropriation Committee. It must rise to the occasion. It must not be business as usual. This is how the system can work for the good of the people. I am an ardent believer in transparency and accountability. These are the hallmarks of sustainable growth and development. This is a fact.

The focus has shifted since the budget proposal is before the National Assembly. It is either we do a good job, or we perish. The reality on the ground is grim. This is not the time to play politics with the future of Nigerians. Please note that this position is not casting shadows on the budget proposal; instead, it states that the National Assembly has a role in ensuring that a better Nigeria is possible.

Excuses can be made in some instances, but not in this instance. Only one option is left: do the right thing, and Nigeria will be great. This is my charge to Hon Abubakar Bichi, the Appropriation Committee chairman.

I do not doubt his ability to stand out from the crowd when it matters most. He has demonstrated this attribute on several occasions, and this will be the same. His penchant for paying attention to details is commendable. This is one attribute that probably informed his chairmanship of the Appropriation Committee.

The Appropriation Committee has one of the broadest jurisdictions of any committee. It is responsible for appropriating funding for most of the federal government functions. This is well known to Hon Abubakar Bichi and other committee members. They are aware of the leadership position of the House of Representatives concerning transparency and accountability.

The Hon. Abubakar Bichi, I know, is a stickler for excellence, and I can go to sleep knowing that whatever comes out from the 2024 Appropriation bill would be in the interest of the people. In truth, it doesn't look like the Appropriation Committee won't do justice to the task before them.

If you know Hon Abubakar Bichi, you would agree with my position. He is such a passionate Nigerian whose worldview is in tandem with the principle of transparency. This is what is needed in our quest for sustainable growth and development. And this is the mantra of the 10th Assembly. The appropriation committee chairman is in tandem with this focus, and it would be reflected in the outcome of the 2024 appropriation bill before it.

This is also a charge to all stakeholders. The habit of heating the polity with assumptions is detrimental to restoring confidence in the polity. We must be circumspect in our engagements and public conduct. Casting aspersions on intents without any tangible evidence is counterproductive.

This is not the time for such an enterprise. Moreso, the task of fixing Nigeria does not rest on the shoulders of a few. The principle of structural functionalism comes in handy. Structural functionalism is a theory that sees society as a complex system whose parts work together to promote solidarity and stability.

This is common sense and the way forward. Gone should be the days when we expect magic to happen. The effort must be collective and without any form of malicious intent.

The executive arm of government has submitted a proposal to the legislative arm. The legislative arm is not a rubber stamp. Some processes and procedures must be followed. The appropriation committee is aware of this, and the chairman of that committee is a thorough legislator who has delivered when it matters most in previous national assignments.

The scrutiny of the 2024 Appropriation Bill would be encompassing. The outcome would be pleasant, and Nigerians would be proud of the efforts to set the agenda for a prosperous country.

The indices are in place. The leadership of the House of Representatives owes Nigerians that sacred responsibility and would see through this commitment. The onus now lies in the appropriation committee to do justice to the 2024 appropriation bill. I have no reservations about the outcome. Hon Abubakar Bichi has the capacity, which would come in handy at the end of the day.

Politics / Reps To Commence 2024 Budget Defence Immediately by o42198: 7:12am On Dec 02, 2023
The Nigeria's House of Representatives is working assidously to expedite legislative actions in passing the 2024 Appropriation Bill, Spokesperson, Hon. Akin Rotimi (Jnr) has revealed.

According to the Spokesperson of the House, the move was in line with the mandate given by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to sustain the January-December budget cycle system.

On Wednesday, President Tinubu presented a record N27 trillion as the proposed budget for 2024, before a joint session of the senate and House of Representatives.

Tinubu asked the lawmakers to expedite the consideration of the budget and ensure that the Appropriation Bill is passed before January 2024.

The House subsequently suspended its rules and convoked a plenary on Friday, having started a debate on the general principles of the Appropriation Bill.

The Bill scaled second reading during plenary on Friday after an extensive two-day debate by the Lawmakers.

A statement personally signed by the House Spokesperson Friday night, further assured Nigerians that the National Assembly would do everything within its powers to round up legislative activities on the Bill for onward movement to the President for his assent, within a short time.

"Following the presentation of the 2024 Appropriation Bill by H.E. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, legislative action on the bill has commenced in earnest.

"The House of Representatives held plenary on Thursday, November 30, and Friday, December 1, 2023, to debate the bill extensively, further to which the bill passed Second Reading, and was committed to the House Committee on Appropriation.

"On Saturday, December 2, 2023, further legislative steps would be taken, including a briefing by the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, to guide the leadership of all House Standing Committees on the standardised process of scrutiny and consideration of the budget proposal, as well as the process of engaging the Ministries, Departments and Agencies for budget defence.

"The House Committee on Appropriation has further released the Sectoral Allocations for due scrutiny", Rotimi said.

While assuring that the budget defence by MDAs would kickstart early next week, the Spokesperson also assured that, "in line with our Legislative Agenda, the 10th Assembly of the House of Representatives remains committed to ensuring a transparent, inclusive, and thorough process of budget consideration".
Politics / Tinubu Appoints Atiku Sponsors To Head Nnpc by o42198: 12:23pm On Nov 28, 2023
A Pro-All Progressives Congress Group-Northern Progressive for Asiwaju, has faulted the appointment of Umar Ajiya as the new Chief Financial Officer, NNPCL.

In a statement by the groups Director General, Muhammad Hussein on Tuesday, said the President must wake to reality happening.

The group alleged that his appointment is dangerous to the All Progressive Congress despite his involvement in the sponsoring of Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

“We described this as despicable and a threat to many loyalist of our party who worked hard for the success of the 2023 presidential election.”

“We expect Asiwaju to reward loyalty and people who worked tirelessly for him not those who stole the nation’s money to sponsor people against him.”

Politics / Celebrating Motherhood by o42198: 10:49am On Nov 27, 2023
It was the celebrated English Nobel Laureate, Rudyard Kipling who said- perhaps tongue-in cheek or in a moment of spirited devotion, that "God could not be everywhere at once, therefore he made mothers". An effusive hyperbole on his part, no doubt, but I suppose he did drive home his intended point home, succinctly and with precision with that statement. I'm inclined to empathize with the sentiments that drove him to say that for it is my considered belief that Mothers were created to keep us mortals in remembrance of the Love that never fails, the love whose name is God. It is for this reason that the Yoruba- a tribe renowned for its thoughtfulness and acclaimed for its rich, arcane philosophy that is witnessing an unprecedented renaissance and resurgence even to the farthest ends of the earth, declared with Solomonic certitude: "Orisa bíi Ìyá kòsí!" Indeed, the power of a mother's love is second only to the love that is of, and from God. This is why a wise man, somewhere and some-when, once said,

"Mother is the name for God in the lips and hearts of little children.”

On this auspicious day of my admittance into the inner Bar- a day that signposts my attainment of the highest pinnacle of the legal profession, my heart overflows with an indescribable mix of emotions. Gratitude, excitement, and awe fill every fiber of my being as I stand on the threshold of greatness, first because I have found favour with God, the author of my odyssey, athe one who had written the annals of my wanderings ever before I drew my first breath or before my body was even formed deep within the of my Òrisà.

Today is yours, beloved Princess Christiana Monisola Ajulo, nee Adedeji, my Òrisà. By the grace of God, to whom else could it belong? Whose sweat, whose tears, whose prayers, whose slaps, whose cheers have been the fuel that provided the power for relentless upward thrust? Whose counsel provided a compass that has commanded my feet as a youth, to abide in the upward path- the way of nobility and truth when siren voices sought to seduce away from light into darkness? When dark clouds amassed and obscured my way, who sent up a barrage of prayers to heaven, and illuminated my way?

Indeed and in truth, Òrisà bi Ìyá ko si l'aiye!

The cosmos, the very heavens are witness to the truth of my words when I say that it is your unwavering support, guidance, and unwavering belief in me that has propelled me to this moment of triumph.

You, Ma’ami, have been the rock upon which I built my dreams. Your limited formal education never hindered your ability to instill within me the fundamental principles of justice, compassion, and fairness. With your love as my compass and your teachings as my guiding light, you nurtured within me a deep sense of integrity and moral values that would shape my path towards greatness.

Reflecting upon our humble beginnings, I am overcome with profound gratitude for our shared journey. Your dedication, sacrifices, boundless love and unflinching faith in the Almighty, have been the driving force behind my pursuit of excellence. Of a truth, I have weathered tempests and calm seas alike, because you have been the lighthouse beckoning my ship to safe harbours. Today, as I stand on the cusp of success, I owe it all to you.

I cannot express enough gratitude to the legal profession, the bastion of justice and wisdom that has nurtured and guided me. From the Nigeria judiciary system to the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee, and from the esteemed figures who I have in one way and another I have come across their tutelage, Late Gani Fawehinmi, SAN, Adekola Mustapha, SAN, Chief Bola Ige, Chief Kanu Agabi, Hon Justice Sehinde Kumuyi, Aare Afe Babalola, SAN, Dr Olumide Ayeni, SAN, Late Miskom Puepet, Sam Ologunorisha, SAN, Dr Tunji Abayomi, Prince Wole Adebayo, Asiwaju Wole Olanipekun, SAN and Asiwaju Adegboyega Awomolo, and Late Chief G. O. K. Ajayi, SAN, I owe a profound debt of gratitude. Their wisdom, mentorship, and unwavering support have shaped me into the lawyer I am today.

I cannot overlook the unsung heroes, those silent mentors who have left an indelible mark on my journey. Thank you, all for the influence, often unnoticed but deeply felt, has propelled me forward during moments of doubt and uncertainty. Your wisdom and guidance have been invaluable, and I am forever grateful for your presence in my life.

To those who have contributed and still contributing to the creation of the "Castle of Law," I extend my deepest appreciation. Your collective efforts and unwavering dedication have paved the way for my ascent to this pinnacle of success. I am forever indebted to each and every one of you.

However, it is to you, my beloved mother, that I reserve the most heartfelt celebration and dedication. You are an extraordinary woman, one in a million. Today, I not only celebrating my achievement but also honor your remarkable motherhood. This momentous elevation stands as a testament to your profound influence in my life. Your life is a vivid manifestation of the truth in the words of the celebrated novelist, Agatha Christie, who in a moment of divine inspiration said: "A mother's love for her child is like nothing else in the world. It knows no law, no pity. It dares all things and crushes down remorselessly all that stands in its path."

As I move forward, I pledge to honor the faith you have placed in me and the expectations of those who look up to me. I will carry the torch of justice, truth, and righteousness with unwavering dedication. Your sacrifices, your unwavering belief in me, and your unconditional love will never be in vain. Every step I take, I will strive to make you proud.

On this momentous occasion, I call upon the world to join me in celebrating the essence of motherhood—the epitome of boundless love, strength, and resilience. Let us rise and give a resounding ovation to all the mothers who have shaped lives and nurtured future generations. And, above all, let us celebrate you, my dear mother, the embodiment of love, sacrifice, and unwavering support. I am persuaded that the late and immortal father of the American nation, Abraham Lincoln, would not begrudge me, as I join my voice with his to say with utmost sincerity, that "All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother."

Thank you, from the depths of my heart, for being the guiding light in my life. With your blessings and the grace of the Almighty, I embark upon the path ahead with unwavering integrity, excellence, and compassion.

With all my love and boundless gratitude.

CSOs Appeals To INEC Chairman To Save Election By Canceling Fake Results In Nembe, Brass, And Southern Ijaw Local Governments

The Bayelsa Civil Society Forum, a collective voice representing various Civil Society Organizations in Bayelsa State, have urgently appealed to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to intervene in the aftermath of the governorship election held yesterday. Disturbing reports have emerged of alleged irregularities and the submission of fake results from certain polling units in Nembe, Brass, and Southern Ijaw local government areas.

The Bayelsa Civil Society Forum in a statement issued in Yenagoa and signed by Comrade Mike Koripamo condemns in the strongest terms any attempt to compromise the integrity of the electoral process. It said the sanctity of the democratic institutions must be upheld, and the will of the people should not be subverted by fraudulent activities.

The group implored INEC to launch an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the reported irregularities in the affected polling units, as it stands to discredit the outcome of the process.

“We earnestly request that INEC considers the cancellation of results from polling units where credible evidence indicates the submission of fake results. This action is crucial to maintaining the credibility and fairness of the election.”

“We call for transparency and accountability in the investigative process, as we believe that upholding the principles of democracy requires swift and decisive action in response to any threats to the integrity of the electoral process. We trust that INEC will act in the best interest of the people of Bayelsa and safeguard the credibility of the recently conducted governorship election.”

Politics / Bayelsa Stakeholders Forum Calls For Cancellation Of Votes In Manipulated Pollin by o42198: 7:05am On Nov 12, 2023
BAYELSA STAKEHOLDERS FORUM CALLS FOR CANCELLATION OF VOTES IN MANIPULATED POLLING UNITS IN NEMBE AND BRASS LOCAL GOVERNMENTS

The Bayelsa Stakeholders Forum expresses deep concern over the alleged manipulation of results in certain polling units in Nembe and Brass Local Governments during the governorship election held yesterday. Our forum, consisting of diverse stakeholders committed to upholding the principles of democracy, is disturbed by reports of irregularities that have compromised the integrity of the electoral process in these areas.

Numerous reports from our observers and concerned citizens on the ground have highlighted instances of voter suppression, ballot box tampering, and other forms of electoral malpractice. These incidents, if left unaddressed, pose a serious threat to the credibility and fairness of the entire electoral exercise. What was witnessed some of these polling units, undermines every credibility, that may come out of the election. We wish to alert the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, that what is being brandished in some of the polling units are stolen votes. For instance, in about 6 communities in the two Local government areas of Brass and Nembe, results were merely written without any accreditation or voting. These polling units include Okpoama, Brass ward 4 and Ewoama/Fantuo ward 3, Bassambiri wards 4, 5, 6, 7, and Oluasiri-Nembe Ward 11, 12 aand 13.

In light of these troubling developments, the Bayelsa Stakeholders Forum demands an immediate cancellation of results in these polling units and others, where noticeable electoral fraud have been perpetrated. Given the gravity of the manipulations, we advocate for the cancellation of votes in the identified polling units. This measure is essential to ensure that the true will of the people is accurately reflected in the final results.

We emphasize the need for transparency and accountability of our election and not subject same to the desperation of some politicians

The Bayelsa Stakeholders Forum remains committed to the principles of fairness, justice, and the promotion of a democratic society. We believe that addressing these concerns is crucial to upholding the sanctity of the electoral process and ensuring that the voices of the people are heard without interference.

We call on all relevant stakeholders, including INEC, security agencies, and civil society organizations, to join hands in safeguarding the integrity of our democratic institutions.
