Education / Newly Inaugurated OAU VC, Prof. Bamire, Reveals Plan To Install CCTV On Campus by OAUVoiceHub: 1:32pm On Jun 28, 2022
The newly inaugurated OAU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bamire Simeon, has revealed his plans to install CCTV in strategic places on OAU campus to improve the security system. Recall that Prof. Bamire was inducted into the office of the Vice-Chancellor of the prestigious university on the 7th of June, 2022.

The Professor of Agriculture made this revelation during a visit to his office by the leadership of the Students Representative Council (SRC) of the Great Ife Students' Union on Monday 27th of June.

The purpose of the visit was to congratulate him on the assumption of office and to discuss some issues related to the welfare of OAU students.

The Vice-Chancellor was delighted to meet the SRC; he appreciated the kind gesture and encouraged more of the visit.

Education / ASUU Strike: Protest Rocks OAU, Students Shut Down Ife-ibadan Expressway by OAUVoiceHub: 10:17am On May 13, 2022
Students of the Obafemi Awolowo University have finally reacted to the ongoing ASUU strike by staging a peaceful protest, blocking the Ife-Ibadan expressway.

It was earlier reported that the Great Ife Student Union held a media confrontation on Monday and Tuesday in Lagos at different Media Houses Like Tribune, TVC amidst others.

During the media confrontation, the student Union revealed that the exercise would be the last step of warning before embarking on a protest.

The protest began early on Thursday, with about 100 students of the University blocking the Ife-Ibadan expressway.

The students held placards bearing different inscriptions like “Fund Education Now,” “Education is not a Scam,” among others, as they chanted “End ASUU Strike.”

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Chairman, OAU chapter, and some other members of the Union also joined the Protest.

The Muslim faithful among the protesters observed their prayers on the blocked express road.

Officers of the Nigeria Police Force also showed up at the protest scene but were booed out by the agitating students. The Students vowed to continue the protests from today till the Federal Government met their demands.

Education / OAU SUG Petitions Amotekun, Meets Director General Of DSS by OAUVoiceHub: 11:20am On May 05, 2022
The Leadership of the Great Ife Student's Union has taken a step forward in their petitions against Amotekun over the assault of some OAU Students by meeting with the Director General of DSS, Osun State and the Commissioner of Police.
On Wednesday 4th of May, the Union notified the General public and all students of Obafemi Awolowo University of this development in a press release titled "Assault on Great Ife Students: Great Ife SU Petitions Amotekun".

Recall that the Union had earlier reported that some Great Ife students were assaulted by some Amotekun Cadets around Mayfair area of Ile Ife on the 29th of April around 3:00 am.

The Reform-led union, after receiving the report of the assault with video evidence presented to them, swung into action. They visited the office of the group but were engaged by no one.

According to reports, not only an assault took place, a theft was also recorded at the scene. Aside from the fact that the victims were assaulted so much that one of them was hospitalised, another was stolen from while pleading for his life.

In response to this, the Great Ife student Union has petitioned the Amotekun with three demands on the case from the State Government. The demand goes thus:

1. That those who committed this heinous act must be provided by Amotekun outfit for proper punishment;

2. That the money stolen from one of the victims must be returned;

3. That the medical bills of the victims must be paid.

The Union assured Great Ife students that their security is not compromised and remains a priority.

The Former president of Obafemi Awolowo University Student Union Government, Oyekan Ibukun a.k.a DR IBK has been arrested by the security department of the University for #720,000 Illegal Withdrawal From Student's Union Account.

A News agency on campus known as Eagle Post published an article on Friday 8th April 2022 breaking the news of an illegal withdrawal of over seven hundred thousand naira from the student Union account. According to the the report, the President of the Union, Olayiwola Folahan Festus (Reform) was said to have collided with the former SUG president of the Union Dr IBK to withdraw the stated amount of money in the Union's account.

On the 9th of April 2022, A press release came from the office of the President of the Union, clearing the fact that he was not involved in any form of withdrawal from the Union's account and also revealed how shocking the news was to him. He also added the money of the students are in safer hands as he remains committed to his oath.

The Public relation Officer of the Union, Ogunperi Taofeek Olalekan (Tao) in a Press release also made further clarification on the shocking report. In the press release, the steps taken by the Union were revealed. A bank statement was demanded from the Bank which has the School account, UBA. The Financial secretary and the President of the Union who were signatories to the the account were also investigated as revealed in the press release.

OAU SUG Former President, Dr IBK Arrested For #720,000 Illegal Withdrawal From Student Union's Account



The Financial Secretary, Oluwasegun Joy Abiola (Legbeti) revealed the progress of the Union on the report on 12th of April, 2022. In response to the steps taken by the Student Union, The Bank revealed the details of the transaction. It was revealed that The Money was transferred by one Oyekan Ibukun (Dr IBK) via internet banking as he was the former president of the Student Union, to an account with the name Bello Oyekunle Saheed. The bank also added that the account has been reported and being tracked so as to recover the money with all other access to the account blocked.

The PRO of the Union revealed on Wednesday,13th April 2022 that Oyekan Ibukun DR IBK has been arrested by the security department of the University and has been transferred to Moore Police Station where the investigation into the illegal withdrawal will continue.
