I just reread you post now you said 80eggs out of 90 point of lay .I thought its 8eggs.Then if its 80eggs you are not doing bad.what it means is that is your peak value.80/90*100=88.9%.you are stillon course.

The first three months of chicken(layers) is very paramount to their laying cycle .The right spacing,heating system,ammonia build up in the pen,depth of wood shavings,feeding,water consumption and lightning plus vaccination.Most breeder dont care about this, all they are after is to feed irregular feed , inadequate water, poor spacing ,lightning to this chicken after 3months you pick them as point of lay and you start facing the headache when you suppose to start making your money gradually.
If you have 8 eggs the next day it should increase to 10 thereafter to 13 eggs.On no condition should you stay on 8eggs for more than a week except if those chicken are not hatched the same day or week.I hope you get my gist.If all things being equal you should have you eggs flowing gradually till you hit 88-90%.The highest you can have is 90 -98% you cant have 100% production.If its still 88% you arent doing bad.

How often did you feed them with the 10kg per day.I mean do you feed them 5kgs in the morning and 5kg in the afternoon?How many liters of water are the consuming per day,Are they on floor or battery cage.Are you following the right lightning program for the chicken.Are they active ?Do they make noise as if they wanna lay?Did they bend down when you move your hands over them if no ,they are not yet ready to lay.It means their body weight isnt enough to produce eggs .If no disease in the pen and they are eating and very active i will advice you to keep feeding them.And when was the last time you deworming and delousing them?

This is the problem with farmers who fails to raise with from another source.I still believe in DO it yourself.Anyway what I will advice you is to improve their lightning programme.
How many bags of feed are they eating per day and what is the liters of water .If they are not looking as in this picture they will not lay.
check the comb and wattle are they brighter?Give them extra feed and be patient .

Dear friends,scan your amos 17e with 11009 v 30000.we have history channel(moneymart tv) for Nigerians on that tp.you can enjoy the Nigerian past as far back as early 19th century .I think its a channel we need to watch .To me its more better than this oyinbo history channel.

Nothing to panic about ,its the first egg its called 'pullet',gradually the eggs sizes will increase with the number of eggs per day.
Just make sure you give adequate feed and water to your chickens .

@ Oga Obnelly, concerning above sat, i believe full signal reception would best be attained with fibre dish size ranging from 3mtrs and above, cos there are some free channels like Asianet movies which are elusive with 2.3mtr mesh dish that i use, but as is the case with FTA hunting the larger the dish size the greater the signal reception in an exponential value, e.g signal reception of Nilesat beam with 4.5 mtr surpasses a 3mtr signal reception at almost 300%x, so i believe with a larger dish almost all the free channels on 17*E will be in the kitty- Goldrock.

@Twinskenny, intelsat 17 66*E is receivable with at least 2.3mtr mesh dish and above,my location is Ibadan, as a matter of fact,by the arrangement of my LNBFs, i receive intelsat 17(66*E) at exactly the same position where i pick citizen TV (62*E) with the middle LNBF having the di-electric splitter, while the C-band LNBF above without the splitter locks the intelsat 17(66*E) simultaneously,altogether i do receive close to 70 channels from that sat, although most are encrypted,however channels like Kalaighnar TV,Kalaighnar Seithigal and Angel TV (HD) etc are unencrypted.

That is a good news .were you able to receive any of the india bouquets like sony entertainment ,sun network and tata communication.

kenny, by my calculation you will need close to 3.4m to hit that bird on c band.if you are in lagos.but I still believe nothing is impossible.

DOC or POL is good depending on your choice. POL is good if u know the source very well. How honest are they with their vacination n feeding. Most of them cut corners to maximise profit. They give half vacinatin n feeding but if you are sure of them in terms of vacination n feeding then POL is better cos the risk of brooding DOC has been taking care of. The stress of brooding is not there.
But DOC u ve to bear the stress of brooding n the risk of loosing some.

Me am raising DOC cos I don't have the money for POL n I want to hv experince in it.

A real farmer would rather do things by himself than allow somebody to do it for him.I still choose to raise from DOC to POL.Its simple and teaches me to learn so many things about chicks and pullets.You wouldnt believe this ,i understand what my chicken is trying to say because of personal interaction i had with them whenever they make different sounds.it means different things ,when they are in distress,when they are hungry ,when they wanna greet me for their feed to when they wanna lay eggs .And if 1000 birds is making noise at high decibel i can stop the 1000 to still.Reason why is because i took my time to understand and learn so many things about them.

I got the DOCs from Zartek.

I did the brooding mysef.
Environment is free of dirt. Farm house is cleaned weekly and waste properly disposed
I am currently using deep liter system. Used only top feed wit no mixture from DoC to POL.
This samonella attacked them afta about 4 birds starting laying.

Anyways inorder to limit my loss. I have slaughter all d remaining birds, supplied dem to frozen chicken dealers.

Please can I get the contact details of d animal care so that i can place an order for some POLs.

why not try chi farms for their ISA BROWN BREED DOC/POL.I have a contact man there ,You still have to troubleshoot the cause of the samonella in your farm otherwise it could expand to your new flock.Please get rid of it fully before stocking new set of young chicks/chickens

Please,how much does it cost to transport one POL from say Ogere to Benin? They are asking me to pay N180 per bird and for 500POLs =N90,000.00 and I find that very high.I need help urgently becasue anything we can do to reduce cost as farmers add to our eventual profitability.

I don't understand what that meant. We have about 9 plots and we want to start with 2 to 3 plots for the poultry project. I just built a poultry house for myself ,cages ,feeder,nipples and planning to build a bioreactor to convert the poultry droppings into useful biobased products.
I dont think you need any association to build your pen.Since you have large plots of land meant for farming i will advise you to register your company and the land as agric land meant for poultry business so that in the end when houses started encroaching your farm you will have a legal back up that the land is for farm business so any body who cannot stand the odour from your farm will need to evacuate your property than you evacuating your poultry business
Also to erect your pen east and west orientation is very important the reason for that is to prevent sun rays into your pen and to create long shade over your pen house.
Also make sure your pen house is tall enough to allow free flow of air circulation in and outside the pen house

from my experience i think breeze or air flow moves from south to north and sometime otherwise so with the orientation east and west is longer to shade your pen house while north and south is shorter to send cool fresh air across your pen.

Note use quality wire mesh to cover your pen there are some fake wire out there so shine your eyes before buying one.

Sirgee1: Hi guys ! Thanks for all ur wonder contributions. I bought 500 DOC in Jan. in May my birds began to lay suddenly they began to die. I took a sample of d dead birds to my vet doc, he told that they had "salmonella"( fowl typhoid). And prescribed bioflum tiloxin corel Sp, afta wards Furalsol and now Maxpan 200. As I write this in tears I have lost 183 birds.

Please house help me out before i loose all my birds cos I might go crazy.

Where did you get the DOC from
Did you brood then yourself from DOC to point of lay
Any infection why they were on the floor.
How often did you clean their feeding and drinking equipment?
Is their environment free of dirt?
what is the source of their feed?locally made or from millers(animal care,top feed,livestock feed etc)
Does the feed in the bag mix with water while you store them?
Are they in cages or on the floor?
When did you observe change in the behaviour of the chicken ?
Did you notice any drop in egg production ?
This and many more questions could point a clue to where and when you contacted the samonella.
you may use another vet doctor to be 100% sure of the disease since you said your mortality still goes up.

Sorry about the loss and by the way are you managing the poultry by yourself or you put somebody there?

Got my first egg today.I am so happy.I purposely delay their production because i didnt want it to lay on the floor.I have all in cages now and i got my first egg today.
