Politics / Abia,towards The Last Legs Of The Year 2012, by ocular007(m): 3:33pm On Apr 26, 2013
Towards the last legs of the year 2012, November to be precise, in a colourful gathering of mixed amalgam in Aba, involving party faithfuls, Executive Council members, Ndi Eze, a host of Advisers and Senior Special Assistants, among others, Chief T A Orji, wearing a construction helmet, clambered up an earth moving equipment, symbolizing the kick off of reconstruction of the roads in Aba.

The historic action of the Abia helms man was in response to the outcries of people in Aba over the bad roads, excessive flooding and the accompanying potholes. It is evident that Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State cannot function effectively where access roads are in terrible state of disrepair. Obviously, Taxis, commercial buses, tricycle owners who move people from one point to the other in their daily chores, cannot carry out their duties and earn their keeps due to the state of the roads. Challenging as these were, no meaningful construction could be done in the height of the rainy season. Therefore, he bided his time until the rains slowed down, giving the first sign of the dry season.

At the nick of time, Sir T.A. Orji called out the construction companies, mobilized them with huge sums that energized them to marshal their equipment to site. While the financial mobilization went on, he extracted a firm promise from the contractors insisting on terminal dates of all the awarded contracts which were timed to fall in within the dry season as he wouldn’t want uncompleted jobs and abandoned projects.

Monday April 14, 2013, five months after, the massive awards materialized into fruition. Like the flag off day, people from all walks of life gathered all over in large numbers to commission the completed roads among them Azikiwe, Milverton, Aba-Obikabia phase 1, Brass\Faulks, Georges, Constitution Crescent, Ngwa Road to mention a few. Previously, many who refused to see anything good in Abia and balked at being part of the flag off, took a “let’s wait and see” attitude but realising that the Governor meant every word of his promise, reconsidered their negative stance and joined on Monday to witness the epic event. In truth, Milverton, Geometric access road, Brass were awarded, now completed and commissioned in the presence of notable personalities like Ezes Ikonne, Uwakwe Ukaegbu and the Rector of The Abia Polytechnic, Elder Onukaogu.

There are so many lessons in these activities. Milverton Avenue is indispensable to Aba residents and visitors who throng the city to purchase goods for industrial, commercial and domestic use. Many of the transport companies are resident in Milverton. The Geometric access road is a road leading to the Geometric Power Plant, a contract awarded by the Federal Government in answer to the yearning of the State Government which always took the blame for every anomaly. The prompt response to the plea by Abia Government for Abuja to come to our rescue in steady power supply as the Abia industrial hub with a larger percentage in Aba can hardly function without steady power is due to the excellent relationship of Dr T A Orji and President Jonathan. It is on record that so many industries like Dunlop and Michelin, outfits which have marched with Nigeria since independence all relocated to Ghana and other west African countries because of power supply and Sir T.A Orji thoughtfully elected to construct an access road for a federal Government project in order that Aba and her creative residents will achieve their industrial potentials and capacity to produce the badly needed goods for our local consumption and exports and at the same time earn foreign exchange.

Alongside these roads are drainages which will protect the roads from flooding and water logging. This act of His Excellency further goes to manifest some of his titles like Ekwueme, Ebekuo Dike, Ome Nke Ahuru Anya e.t.c.

Ekwueme which means one who promises and fulfils, Ebekue Dike the warrior who responds to the yearnings and distress cries and Ome Nke Ahuruanya extols one who performs the evident and physical. These go a long way in telling the person of T.A Orji as an Achiever, a leader who responds to the public aggravations knowing very well where the shoe pinches. Indeed, he is the Ochendo, the umbrella which protects the people and property from hard and harsh conditions.

Outside the feat in Aba, the governor has embarked on another ambitious road project which will certainly benefit all Abians. This is the operation ‘Ten kilometer roads for every Local Government.’ This practically means a total of 170 kilometers of roads in the 17 Local Governments in Abia. Outside the Aba inner city roads, it is notable that Osisioma-Ekeakpara, Ogbo Hill-Omoba, Obikabia, Ohanku Roads in Abia South, Ovim-Acha-Isiukwuato, Nunya, Eluama, Abiriba-Nkporo, in the Abia North and Amoba Nnono Oboro, dualization of Ubakala-Old-Umuahia, Afugiri, Mbawsi Ntigha, all in the Central Zone to mention a few embrace the three Senatorial Zones. Is this not stunning, has it been this good?

Bewildering too is the transformation of Ogurube layout the new capital suburb from a bushy scrubland to a city of glittering roofs. Spawning, ten cascading roof steps of the International Conference Centre, not too far from the refurbished old Secretariat, wearing the same paint colour with the twin high rise of the new one- the first of its kind in Abia to have service elevators. Adjacent to this is the fastest rising building of the Joint Accounts Committee (JAC) building that the Honourable Minister of Information Mr Labaran Maku laid its foundation stone on the 16th of January 2013. Further down across the road is the inescapably retouched greeny roofs of the Abia House of Assembly and the new 28 room story building for constituency offices. Behind the assembly compound are the unmistakable but uniform duplexes for Commissioners who were previously not accommodated in the designated quarters. They now have 3 duplexes to consummate the affinity.

In the same Ogurube Layout is the 54 room BCA complex now ready for occupation with a magnificent landscaping. The New Government House and Asubeb Complexes are tagging along in a construction process.

I can go on and on but for space and time. One question that many are asking is: is T.A Orji going for re-election? No! Even though he is working like one going for re-election, he is only trying to fulfill his contract with the people as all his life he has carved a niche in the service of humanity. Assuredly, he wouldn’t want to let down his party the PDP who he promised to perform. To him, integrity and honour mean a lot!

All these structures rising within a space of two years call for commendations by way of doing our own parts as indigenes of Abia. It is on record that till date a total of 52 road projects are on in different stages of completion, among them the continuous overlay of roads in the towns and the rehabilitation of roads in World Bank Umuahia. Not surprising these are shepherded by Prince K O Mbeahuru, a man who is loyal to the core and ever ready to learn. Ndi Abia, check your records if such massive construction has ever taken place in Abia before and incidentally, count your blessings, name them one by one. Certainly it will surprise you what the Lord has done through the Instrumentality of Ochendo.

Governor Orji flags off new roads in Aba, vows to keep kidnappers away

Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State has restated the determination of his government to ensure that daredevil kidnappers never returned to Aba and indeed the God’s Own State in general, affirming that, “we are fully prepared for them”.

Governor Orji noted that it was because the government fought criminals, especially kidnappers out of the state that roads and other developments were being witnessed in the state.

The governor gave this assurance in Aba, Monday, during the commissioning of seven out of the 16 roads he flagged-off in December.

He said that if the kidnappers were still terrorizing people in the state, the roads would not have been completed.

Casting his mind back on the bad state of Aba, both in security and the infrastructures before now, the governor assured that better days were waiting for the Aba residents. He however urged them to always pay their taxes to enable the government do more.

While calling on the people to pay their taxes, the governor announced that the state has introduced a single tax regime as against the old system whereby all manner of people demand different taxes from the residents, most of which ended up in private pockets.

“We have introduced single tax regime. We are not happy with double taxation. Pay your tax and leave the rest for me. My job is to give you conducive environment and ensure that you are comfortable”, governor Orji said.

“First, we have to thank God who helped us to fight kidnappers. If they were still here, we would not have done these roads and other things we are doing in Aba. When I came here in 2010, Aba people all fled. But today everybody is back. We have flagged-off 16 roads and we have done 10 roads under two months.

“I want Aba people to believe in government that tells you the truth, my yes is my yes and my no is my no. when we say we will do something we will do it. I never told Aba people that I will do work on all Aba roads. I told you that will work on some roads.

“Any politician who tells you that he will build all the roads in Aba is not sincere because it is not possible. We are bringing new things in Aba”, Orji said.

Referring to abuses and hostile environment Aba people induced by the opposition used to show him, the governor said he was sure that the people would sing his praises by the time he was done with his development projects in the state.

“This is a working government. I am not interested in praises but I know that I will be celebrated. Mbakwe who is being celebrated today was stone but later celebrated. I know that we will be celebrated. I gave out 16 roads and in two months we finished 10 and very soon we will complete the rest”, Orji said.

He advised Aba residents to stop believing in rumours and gossip, “always verify and see things for yourselves. Go to Nigerian Breweries, it is expanding and it is expanding because the state is secured”.source : http://dailypost.com.ng/2013/04/16/governor-orji-flags-off-new-roads-in-aba-vows-to-keep-kidnappers-away/

Abia CP Tasks Residents To Cooperate With Police On Crime Fighting

Abia state Commissioner of Police, Usman Abubakar has called on individuals, communities and the general public to cooperate with the police in fighting crime in the state by giving useful information that would help the police work efficiently and urged Abians to expect a new change in police performance in the state.

“The public should provide useful information to the police. This is the only way we can work efficiently, we are not spirits; people should report criminals and their activities. I assure you that such persons will be protected. Security should be everybody’s business because when there is problem it affects everyone,” he said.

Usman in a telephone interview with our correspondent said his administration would ensure that peace reigns in the state during his tenure as the police boss as he will be more committed to tackling crime in the state

The CP stated his readiness to chase criminals out of the state as well as pursue vigorously the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar’s transformation agenda geared towards restructuring and restoring the image of the force which has been severed by bad eggs within the Force.

“I will ensure that the IGP’s agenda of transforming the Nigerian Police is fully implemented. If the public sees any sign of bad conduct among my men, let them get the number and name of the police officer and forward it to me. My phone number is everywhere. I want to ensure that people will go to their normal duties without any hindrance or fear of being kidnapped,” he said.

The CP while appreciating the drop in crime rate in the state added that the police would continue to partner with sister security agencies to sustain the fight against criminals.

The police boss called on individuals, communities and the general public to cooperate with the police in fighting crime in the state by giving the police useful information that would help them work efficiently and urged Abians to expect a new change in police performance in the state.

Speaking on the development, a police source at the Aba Area Command who spoke on the condition of anonymity hinted that men and officers of the Command were combat ready to cue with CP Abubakar’s vision in tackling criminality in the state and attributed the success recorded so far in fighting crime in Aba to the high sense of professionalism exhibited by men of the Command.

Orji Kalu frustrates trial over N5.6bn fraud, EFCC tells court

Orji Uzor Kalu

The EFCC have accused Mr. Kalu of resorting to various legal tactics to delay his trial.

The trial of former Abia State Governor, Orji Kalu, for alleged N5.6 billion fraud was on Thursday stalled at the Federal High Court in Abuja due to a pending appeal.

Mr. Kalu had approached the Supreme Court to request it to set aside the judgment of the Court of Appeal which upheld the charges levelled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. He had urged the trial court to quash the charges as no evidence was established against him.

The anti-graft agency had, among other things, accused the former governor of stealing over N5.6 billion belonging to Abia State while in office.

At the resumed session, O. Ololagbe, Counsel to EFCC, said the accused had resorted to various legal tactics to delay his trial.

“My Lord, this matter has dragged on since 2007 when the accused was arraigned and does not seem to have made any head way,’’ he said.

However, Mr. Kalu urged the court to discountenance the allegation made by EFCC, since he is rightly before the Supreme Court.

“My Lord, the appeal and the brief of argument have been entered, so what is left now is a date to commence hearing. The reason we are here today is simply to brief the trial court on the progress of the appeal and not to question a possible legal tactics to delay the trial.

“These are serious criminal allegations that are not founded on truth but built on political leanings. So we must deal with it judicially and judiciously, irrespective of the time consumed,” his counsel said.

Justice Adamu Bello adjourned the matter to July 8 for the report of progress from the Supreme Court.source :http://premiumtimesng.com/metro/127408-orji-kalu-frustrates-trial-over-n5-6bn-fraud-efcc-tells-court.html

Politics / Abia Government Debunks Reports On Destruction Of Newspaper Stands by ocular007(m): 5:18pm On Mar 25, 2013
Abia State government says its Task Force on Environment and Allied Matters is not destroying newspaper stands in Aba or any part of the state

Addressing newsmen in Aba, chairman of the Abia State Task Force on Environment and Allied Matters, Capt Awa Udonsi Agwu (rtd), said his team has not destroyed any newspaper stand in the state, describing the reports making the rounds as coming from detractors of the Gov. Theodore Orji administration.

“We have not destroyed any newspaper stands in Aba or anywhere. Newspaper stands located on a wrong place are always advised to relocate. No member of my team has destroyed newspapers or arrested vendors. Street trading is very dangerous. What my team is doing is to clean up the city. We will see some traders blocking the road with their wares, obstructing the flow of traffic. Others display theirs on top of drainages. We have been able to stop street trading. We have been very civil in the execution of our duties. The Task Force boasts of highly educated people who cannot stoop low to destroy newspapers or businesses. So, reports of the team destroying newspaper stand in Aba or anywhere is baseless and in bad faith,” he said.

Udonsi accused the detractors of playing politics with the well being of the people and called on them to turn a new leaf.

“You know this is the area of politics. It is unfortunate that our people play politics with everything. In our assignment, we have been very cautious because we know the detractors are looking for a way to blackmail the governor.”

During a visit to some newspaper stands in the city, most newspaper vendors interviewed said nobody destroyed their newspapers. Others said the team only advised them to withdraw from the road in places where the stands were wrongly placed.

A newspaper vendor at the fence of the headquarters of Aba South local council, who simply gave his name as Awa told newsmen that the Task force had never destroyed his newspapers or stands. Another vendor at Aba Main Motor Park, Kelechi said the team only advised him to withdraw from the edge of the road where his stand was placed but alleged that an unnamed member of the team destroyed his stool, a claim which the chairman of the Task Force should have been reported to him.

At the Pound road Junction, a young man who owned the newspaper stand also confirmed that the team has never destroyed his newspapers.

The Chairman of the Task Force further took newsmen to a spot at the Azikiwe by Asa road junction where there existed a newspaper stand which he relocated to a safer place after the junction. A middle aged man who manned the stand said nobody has disturbed him since he relocated to the new place.

It would be recalled that the Aba Newspapers and Magazines Distributors Association had in a press statement made available to journalists in Aba threatened to stop the sales and distribution of newspapers in the city, alleging that the Abia State Task Force on Environment and Allied Matters has been destroying newspaper stands in the commercial city and appealed to Gov. Orji to come to their aid.
Politics / When It Comes To Sex OUK Is Legendar by ocular007(m): 12:14pm On Mar 23, 2013
When it comes to sex OUK is legendary
The truth is that Kalu who is legendary when it comes to sex, since he is always on drugs, raped his girl friend to death. The girl who was on her period refused Kalu's advances and this angered Kalu.

The former governor does not joke when banging is at stake (even if its a ten year old girl) over powered the lady, tied her hand, and went hay wire, till the girl gave up, since she was asthmatic. The ghost of that lady is still hunting Kalu.source :http://naijanewsreelity..com/2013/03/when-it-comes-to-sex-ouk-is-legendary.html?spref=fb

Politics / Abia State Joins The World In Mourning Prof Chinua Achebe, A Legend Of All Times by ocular007(m): 7:39pm On Mar 22, 2013
Abia State joins the World in mourning Prof Chinua Achebe, a legend of all times.

Things have fallen apart, the centre cannot hold, we are no longer at ease, this was the expression of Chief Theodore Ahamefule Orji of Abia State when he received the news of the death of Prof Chinua Achebe.

Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Ugo Emezue Chief Orji said that Ndi-Igbo has lost a literary icon, a legend of all times and a hero whose novels remain a reference point in and outside the country.

Chief Orji who lamented the exit of Prof Achebe maintained that he is yet to come to terms with the sudden demise of this statesman of international repute.

The Abia State helmsman declared that Prof Achebe has impacted positively on the lives of people through his literary works.

Prof Achebe, Abia Governor stated will be remembered for always standing up for Ndi-Igbo at all times despite all odds.

Though Prof Achebe became a bit challenged through an accident that affected his legs he waxed stronger, impacting knowledge on the younger ones as a lecturer abroad, the Governor added.

Chief Orji said that the Governors of the South East would do their best to give their departed illustrious son a befitting burial.

He commiserated with the family of the bereaved and prayed God to give them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.source :http://www.abiastate.gov.ng/news/abia-state-joins-the-world-in-mourning-prof-chinua-achebe-a-legend-of-all-times/

T.A. Orji: Why are the gods raging?

I follow with utter dismay the deliberate but unnecessary campaign of calumny mounted in a section of the nation’s media against Governor Theodore A. Orji of Abia State, who probably has no time to engage in such media war.

While not holding brief for him, I believe that no patriotic and well-meaning Nigerian should wait to be told before he can speak out against such unwholesome and irritant politics which comes in many hues and forms of which campaign of calumny is the most monstrous and abominable.

The travails of Abia governor spring mainly from his quarrel with his former boss and predecessor, Chief Orij Uzor Kalu (OUK), who may have sworn to run him down and possibly crush him, using the pages of newspapers.

The situation becomes all the more irritating when political jobbers and others who are not Abians and therefore strangers to the crux of the matter begin to dabble headlong in the whole affair.

These people cannot but display abject ignorance leading, of course, to famished analyses, biased conclusions and a jaundiced stand that only worsen the situation.

A typical example is the case of Rev. Father Patrick Ogu of the Ahiara Parish of the Mbaise Diocese of the Catholic Church, which the Daily Sun of March 7, 2013 under the headline, Catholic priest slams Governor Orji for witch-hunting Kalu, carried. My immediate reaction to Father Ogu’s “witchhunt” charge against T.A. Orji was that of surprise and indignation.

What has a parish priest based in a remote village in Mbaise, Imo State, got to do with the OUK/T.A Orji disagreement, when the clergy and laity in Abia State who are really conversant with the nitty-gritty of the matter, have deliberately refused to intervene because OUK still behaves as if he is a political deity to be worshiped by Abians in particular and Ndigbo in general.

Notice how, in flagrant disregard and negation of the Ohaneze Ndigbo’s principled stand on the quest for Igbo president vis-àvis Jonathan’s tenure, OUK has declared his presidential ambition, formed a parallel organization and named it Njiko Igbo – whatever that means – under whose canopy his campaign train has since hit the ground.

At the same time he appears desperate about returning to a Bamanga Tukur-led PDP that has no room for nonconformist former members like OUK that habour explicit anti- Jonathan sentiments.

In fact, OUK knows deep down that the road to the PDP was closed to him that very moment he publicly declared his candidacy for the 2015 presidential contest in which the PDP may field Jonathan.

So all this noise about his quest to return to the PDP may be only aimed at attracting publicity and distracting Governor Orji who has made a lot of developmental strides including the arrest of the menace of kidnapers and the culture of unbridled hooliganism inherited from the OUK era.

Ill-informed elements accuse the governor of “witch-hunting Kalu” and “armtwisting the state university”, but there is no iota of truth in such allegations. Abia State University is an autonomous institution with powers to review its policies and up-date its records from time to time.

If in the process of doing so this time around the interest of an eminent citizen like OUK is affected it could be pure coincidence and therefore, nobody should attribute it to any “witch-hunting” or “arm-twisting” by anybody.

As regards the issue of “gratitude” which Father Ogu raised who, between OUK and T. A. Orji, owes gratitude to whom? Has anybody taken time to verify the truth? How can T. A. Orji’s traducers say that he owes gratitude to OUK when in fact it should be the other way round?

Anyway, living as he does in faraway Imo State, Father Ogu may not know that as Kalu’s Chief of Staff, T.A. Orji’s incarceration ordeal before the 2007 general elections, was a tragic blackmail by a vindictive Federal Government that was hell-bent on tackling and jailing OUK like they did James Ibori, based on elaborate corruption charge.

But the gambit failed and they had to let T.A. Orji go when, to their utter dismay, it became clear that as a principled and descent Igbo man he could not betray his boss or be used in any way against him.

That was the singular act that won T.A. Orji popular sympathy in Abia State and which translated to his victory in the pending gubernatorial poll in 2007. That victory had nothing to do with any PPA miracle or OUK influence.

So, I laughed it off when recently a newsman in the OUK camp claimed that it was by the grace of his intervention and ultimate contact with an influential figure in Abuja, at Kalu’s behest, that fetched T.A. Orji freedom from detention. If one may ask, since when did it become the place of newsmen to broker the release of politicians from detention? All this sterile propaganda and blatant disinformation should stop. Adimora wrote from Umuahia

Politics / Matching Words With Action---t.a Orji by ocular007(m): 4:28pm On Mar 19, 2013
"Let us draw from the wisdom of history, as we recall the horrendous past, when evil repeatedly danced in the square of the righteous, until the heart-rending cry of the state attracted the intervention of heaven. Abia once cajoled and derided is now playing host to stake holders & interest groups, who are desirous of a practical recipe to security challenges residing in their domain.

Our irreversible commitment to Aba will continue to drive the vision of sanitizing the city, for the enhancement of our people’s well being. Our regime of matching words with action will see to it that blocked drainages are thoroughly desistedT.A ORJI and illegal structures obstructing the rehabilitation and construction of new ones are summarily demolished....." - GOV. T. A ORJ
