Business / Re: Eight Basic Items Needed For Ice Block Making by odinikpo: 10:21am On Dec 30, 2013
Dear Rafoid,

The answer to your question is Yes, freezers are needed for large scale ice block production. There are different types with different capacity productions. Some freezers produces only 15 iceblocks, while others produce over 100 iceblocks at once.

As for electricity, if you are in Nigeria, depending on the type of freezers that you use and your share of the market in your area, you will need a generator (fuel or diesel). If you need more on the capacity of generators and their possible prices, let me know.

Thank you and do keep in touch.

Eight basic items needed for ice block making:

1. Space (shop or your home).

2. Standing Freezers (brand new/tokunbo or Nigerian constructed).

3. Electrical Power (NEPA, Generator, Inverters or Solar Energy).

4. Water (clean).

5. Nylons

6. Pans

7. Ropes

How to make faster ice blocks and also extend the life span of the freezer

Find below some tips on the above:

1. Avoid opening the freezers constantly while it is on.

2. Clean/mob up any water especially at the bottom of the freezer. The freezer concentrates more on freezing the water rather than the block when there is water.

3. Air condition the shop. This will keep the freezer compressors environment cool and make them work faster.

4. If you cannot afford an air conditioner, you can keep the freezers in an open place with a roof over it so that natural air will be cooling the compressor.

5. Boiled water freezes faster than cold water. If you can boil the water first, then cool it before putting it in the freezer, it will make blocks faster for you.

6. Freezers hate hot objects being loaded into it.

7. Do not use sharp/metal objects like knife etc to remove blocks from the freezers.

8. Avoid loading fresh water in a freezer that has ice blocks already. Placing the new one closer to the one that has block affects the already blocked one.

9. Do not overload your freezer because you want more blocks. It will slow down the blocking process. For example, an LG standing freezer can take three ice blocks in a row. Instead of loading it three, you load two in a row, it will work faster. Ice is mostly formed by the cool air that moves within it. The more space the air has inside the freezer the better it works.

More to come.

Good afternoon,

I have two Nigerian made stainless iceblock machines that produces 47 iceblocks and 64 iceblocks respectively. They produce iceblocks within 24 hours of constant electricity. Each costs about N290k.

If you are interest, kindly email me at odinikpo@rocketmail.com picture included herein

Business / Re: Is Ice Block Production And Selling Business Really Profitable by odinikpo: 1:54pm On Mar 01, 2013
ogb5: Forget Freezers. Takes 3 days of constant power to produce a batch of ice block. you can only use freezer maybe in a company estate where power is very regular and you do not need to use generator.

Austin Lazarus Ice machines are rather expensive for the production rates you will be achieving. so do your calculations right before you leap

Hello friend, i do not seem to agree with you where you said "forget freezers". I run this business and I started with 5 LG standing freezers. At their level, they gave me blocks within 15 hours. I only added more ice block making machines that gives me 47 ice blocks and another that gives me minimum of 63 blocks because my customer strength is growing.

Just like everything in business, it is better to know how much you can raise to start the ice block business and start from there. I started with 1 LG in my house that i bought at N54,800 or so. Today, though not from the profit therein, I have 5 LGs and 4 other machines. I have at least over 150 blocks a day.
