Imagine the stress that comes with being a surety. A lesson to other. But on a second thought, it seems we need to change our approach towards prosecuting looters in this country. |

A serving Sergeant with the Bauchi State Police Command, Godwin Hosea, has been promoted to the rank of an Inspector by the Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, for sowing a bullet-proof jacket. Decorating the newly promoted Inspector at the Police Headquarters in Bauchi on Monday, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mohammed Mohammed, commended him for displaying exceptional talent. The police commissioner said, “On July 22, 2015, during a one day official working visit to the Bauchi State Police Command by the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, one F/No 218346 Sgt Godwin Hosea presented a fabricated bullet-proof jacket he manufactured locally to the IGP during the lecture parade. “As a result, a visibly happy IGP instantly promoted the Sgt to the rank of Inspector with effect from July 22, 2015. Mohammed, who was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Sumonu Abdumalik, urged Hosea to rededicate himself to duty and reciprocate the gesture done to him by the IGP. The CP also called on other officers to emulate Hosea and harness their God given talents in order to move the Force and the nation forward. Hosea thanked the IGP for the honor done to him, promising to be diligent in the discharge of his duty. http://www.nigerianeye.com/2015/09/ig-promotes-sergeant-for-sewing-bullet.html?m=1 |

About 3 persons were feared dead and
about twenty others wounded on Sunday
when members of a new pro- Biafra group,
the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) and
security operatives engaged in a shootout in
Onitsha.
It was not clear what caused the trouble, but
one of the injured persons, Mr. Chinwendu
Ikechukwu said the group was carrying out
an evangelism programme on the need for
people to embrace Biafra Republic in parts
of Nkpor , Idemili North local government
area after their routine meeting, adding that
it was while they were on the street that
security operatives opened fire on them.
He said: “On reaching Okpoko junction, we
were accosted by a detachment of
policemen who fired tear gas on our
members numbering about 5000, but they
later allowed us to go since we were non
violent.
“However, on reaching Uga junction close to
the Niger Bridge Head, the Naval men on
duty there opened fire on us. In our
defenseless state, three of our members
were shot dead, while about twenty others
sustained injuries. Even the police who
initially allowed us to go later joined in
shooting our members.”
According to him, the injured persons were
initially rushed to the nearby Paragon
Hospital, Fegge before they were distributed
to other hospitals.
The Anambra State Police Public Relations
Officer (PPRO), DSP Okechukwu Ali however
denied the involvement of police in the
shooting, adding that the police were in a
‘Show of Force’ operation in Onitsha as at
the time of the incident.
“We never shot at the group, even though
the law of the land has outlawed all pro -
Biafran groups,” he said.
Also, a naval officer who refused to give his
name said the group was lying, insisting
that nobody died. According to him, “if they
claim that three of their members died, they
should provide their bodies. http://www.nigerianeye.com/2015/09/group-loyal-to-biafra-clash-with.html?m=1 |

A Lagos-based lawyer (names withheld) was yesterday caught handling a nine-year- old girl’s b..reasts and p..rivate part in the premises of Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos. The victim, said to have just arrived the country from England, had accompanied her grandmother, who had a civil case in court and needed a lawyer. At the court, she enquired from a court clerk of a lawyer who could help her handle the case and was referred to the said lawyer. The lawyer allegedly lured the little girl to an alley within the court premises and fondled her p....rivate part. The cry of the little girl attracted the grandmother, who asked her what the matter was and she started pointing to the lawyer, saying that he fondled her b...reast and also touched her p...rivate part. According to eyewitnesses, after the court proceedings, the lawyer was seen walking around the court premises with the little girl and when he was asked who the girl was to him, he said she was his daughter. He was also alleged to have carried the girl on his laps and gave his mobile phone to her to play with, while he was busy touching her b....reast and f...ingering her. The eyewitnesses said it was when the girl started crying and went to report to her grandmother, who started slapping the lawyer that they got to know what happened. The noise, which disrupted the court proceedings, brought the matter to Chief Magistrate K. B. Ayeye’s attention. The little girl was said to have told the Chief Magistrate what the lawyer did to her. The magistrate ordered that the lawyer be taken to Lion Building Police Station, Lagos Island. http://www.nigerianeye.com/2015/08/shocking-lawyer-allegedly-fondles-9-yr.html?m=1 |

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved a special exchange rate for this year’s Christian pilgrimage to Israel. The Executive Secretary, the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission, Mr. John Kennedy-Opara, disclosed this to State House correspondents shortly after briefing the President of the commission’s activities inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Kennedy-Opara said Buhari has approved the rate of N160 to $1 for those who will take part in the exercise. He said, “The President has approved $1 to N160 for the conventional exchange rate for this pilgrimage operation and he also agreed that he will continue to encourage us particularly as we drive to ensure self- sustenance, to make sure that the pilgrims are able to pay for the pilgrimages after removing government sponsorship. “This is a journey and we are sure that we are going to succeed. So the President was very happy with the entire process. “We are praying that God will help us to be a source of strength to Mr. President, so that the Federal government and states will spend the necessary resources on other things while the pilgrimage is self-funding as time goes on.” Kennedy-Opara said the President was happy with commission after his presentation. He said the commission was already running four different kinds of pilgrimages in one year. He listed them to include Easter pilgrimage; the youth pilgrimage tagged “Operation catch them young”; the family pilgrimage and the main pilgrimage. He said those going to Israel for the 11 days trip will pay N379,840, while the youth pilgrimage will cost N357,000. “The beauty of what we are doing is that we have added skill acquisition. In other words, people who go on pilgrimage can undergo the skill acquisition programme organised by the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission and Ministry of Agriculture, Israel to train our people in the area of agriculture. “We are also introducing the pilgrimage pilot lottery scheme that will enable people who are lucky to be able to go on this trip without much dependence on the state and the Federal Government,” he added. http://www.nigerianeye.com/2015/07/buhari-approves-special-exchange-rate.html?m=1 |

In a swift turn of fate, A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered INEC to immediately nullify the election of Benue politician, Christian Abah after allegations of certificate forgery leveled against him by his political rival, Mr. Hassan Saleh, was established to be true. Christian Abah was elected in the just concluded general election to represent the Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency in the forthcoming 8th National Assembly. In his judgement, the presiding judge, Justice Adeniyi Ademola said investigations so far carried out by the court showed that Chris Ada presented a forged Ordinary National Diploma certificate in Accountancy he said he obtained from the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, in 1985. According to the judge, an earlier judgment of the National/State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Makurdi delivered on September 6, 2011, and a letter by the Registrar of the polytechnic, Mr. Suleiman Buba, proved that the certificate presented by Abah to INEC was forged. Justice Ademola declared his election invalid and stated that all votes accrued by him during the election was invalid as well. His rival, Hassan Saleh who came second during the election was declared winner of the election by the court. Justice Ademola ordered the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, to immediately commence prosecution of Abah for forgery and perjury. http://www.nigerianeye.com/2015/05/court-nullifies-benue-rep-elects.html?m=1
