Beloved brethren, on this blessed day, we gather in the house of the Lord, ready to receive His Word. Today, we focus on “Understanding Pathways to Sanctification,” drawn from the profound truth of Psalm 23:3. Our God is a God of order, and He has laid down pathways for us to walk in righteousness. As it is written, He will not command us to do what He has not equipped us to accomplish (1 John 5:3, John 14:21).

Sanctification is not a mere gift bestowed upon us; it is a conscious choice we make (Deuteronomy 30:19). Each of us has the power to choose a life that honors God, a life that sets the foundation for our glorious destiny in Christ. Remember the words of 2 Timothy 2:19-21: “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.” This is a call to action, a call to purity, and a call to live according to His standards.

The benefits of sanctification are manifold! Firstly, it secures our access to our inheritance in Christ, as proclaimed in Obadiah 1:17 and Acts 20:32. Secondly, it enhances the effectiveness of our prayers, allowing us to stand boldly before God, as we see in Psalm 66:18-20. Lastly, it procures divine health for us, enabling us to walk in the fullness of His promise (John 5:14, Mark 2:2-5).

To achieve sanctification, we must purpose in our hearts to live a sanctified life, just as Daniel did (Daniel 1:. We must be vigilant, watching and praying, as the enemy prowls like a roaring lion (Matthew 26:41, 1 Peter 5:8-9). Engage the cleansing power of the Word daily (Ephesians 5:26). And above all, let your faith be strong, for it is through faith that we can please God and walk in holiness (Hebrews 11:5-6).

But let us not ignore the grave cost of ungodliness. It blocks our access to help in times of trouble (Isaiah 38:3), destroys destinies (1 Timothy 6:10-11), and cuts us off from divine secrets that lead to success (Job 29:4). These divine secrets are the master keys to life’s doors, revealing paths we must tread (Deuteronomy 29:29).

Pride is the most subtle form of ungodliness that can hinder our walk with God. Remember, every good thing comes from the Lord (1 Corinthians 4:7). Therefore, let the fear of the Lord be your lifestyle, and know that true repentance rewrites our past (Ezekiel 18:20-22).

Maintain your walk with God, and you will find peace amidst any storm. Whatever displeases God creates a disconnect between us and Him. Let us choose today to walk the path of sanctification, securing our destinies and fulfilling His purpose in our lives. Amen.

Introduction

Profitable life—a life filled with meaning, dignity, and impact. But let me start by saying that a profitable life is not defined by material wealth, fame, or achievements. In God's kingdom, true profit is found in living a life that glorifies Him, a life empowered by His Spirit, and grounded in righteousness.

Romans 1:4 speaks of Christ being declared the Son of God with power by the Holy Spirit. That same power is available to us today. But to live a life that is profitable in the eyes of God, you need one thing—empowerment from the Holy Spirit. Acts 10:38 tells us how "God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil." Jesus lived a life of impactbecause He was empowered by the Spirit, and we too must seek this empowerment if we want to live a life that matters.

1. Impact is a Product of Empowerment
True impact in life, that which leaves a legacy, comes from spiritual empowerment. Ephesians 5:27 says that Christ is coming back for a church that is "without spot or wrinkle, holy and blameless." For us to make a real difference in this world, we must be empowered by God to live holy and righteous lives.

Isaiah 62:1-5 paints a beautiful picture of how righteousness leads to dignity and influence. When you walk in righteousness, you stand tall; your life reflects the glory of God. Your dignity, your value, is found in your relationship with God, and the empowerment of the Holy Spirit fuels this.

However, as 2 Timothy 2:19-20 warns us, we must stay grounded in righteousness to be vessels of honor in God’s house. Romans 8:6 also tells us that "the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace." So, to live a profitable life, we must live righteously, led by the Spirit, and empowered for impact.

2. The Power of Righteousness: Dignity and Liberty
Your dignity in life is found in your righteousness. Many people seek fulfillment and satisfaction in the wrong places, but true peace and liberty are found in Christ alone. Isaiah 32:17-20 says that the fruit of righteousness is peace, quietness, and confidence forever. When you live a righteous life, you are free from the guilt, shame, and fear that come with sin.

In Christ, there is liberty. There is peace. You are no longer enslaved to the opinions of people or the pressures of society. But to experience this, you need to be empowered by the Spirit to live a righteous life. Righteousness is the foundation of a profitable life, and God has given us His Spirit to help us live this way.

3. Slow and Steady Wins the Race
In our fast-paced world, many are tempted to cut corners and rush through life, thinking speed equals success. But Scripture teaches us that it is better to be slow and sure than to be fast and fail. 1 Timothy 4:8 reminds us that while physical training has some value, godliness has value for all things, both in this life and the life to come. Matthew 6:33 further emphasizes that we should seek first God’s kingdom and His righteousness, and everything else will be added to us.

We are not created to be independent of God. Philippians 4:19 assures us that God will supply all our needs according to His riches in glory. The sooner we understand our dependence on God, the better off we are. Righteousness is key to accessing God’s provision and blessings, and trying to live independently of Him leads to frustration and failure.

4. Righteousness: The Root of Profitable Living
The foundation of a profitable life in God’s kingdom is righteousness. You cannot live a life of profit while living in sin. To follow God is to turn away from sin, and as 2 Timothy 2:19 tells us, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness."

It is often said, "The harder you follow God, the higher you fly." This is true. Godliness is not something you pick up once and forget; it is a present, continuous experience. It requires sustained effort and a heart hungry for righteousness. We are in a battle against ungodliness in this generation, but with God’s help, we can win.

5. Taking Responsibility for Righteousness
We must take responsibility for our own walk with God. Philippians 2:12 says, "Work out your salvation with fear and trembling." We live in a world where people make excuses for sin, but we cannot afford to lower our standards. The Bible is clear—there is no "Gen Z God," no modernized version of the truth. The same Holy God, the same Jesus Christ, the same Holy Spirit, and the same Bible apply to all generations.

Until you conquer the evil thoughts in your mind, you will not be able to live righteously. Proverbs 23:7 says, "As a man thinks in his heart, so is he." This is why Philippians 4:8 instructs us to focus on whatever is true, noble, right, and pure.

Four Quick Ways to Escape Evil Thoughts:

Engage in Prayer (Matthew 26:41) – Prayer is your spiritual weapon against the attacks of the enemy.
Let the Word Dwell Richly in You (Matthew 12:43-45) – Filling your mind with God’s Word leaves no room for evil thoughts.
Engage the Blood of Jesus (Hebrews 9:14) – The blood of Jesus cleanses our conscience and frees us from the power of sin.
Flee from Every Appearance of Evil (Matthew 3:1-4) – Don’t entertain sin; run from it.
6. Jesus: Our Perfect Example
Acts 10:38 shows us that Jesus was empowered by the Holy Spirit to live a highly profitable life. He went about doing good, healing, and delivering all who were oppressed by the devil. Jesus is the perfect example of a profitable life, and He shows us that we too are redeemed to live a life of purpose and impact.

Jesus didn’t rely on His own strength but on the power of the Holy Spirit. If we want to live like Christ, we must also rely on the Spirit. And the good news is, the Holy Spirit is our helper (Malachi 3:3); He empowers us to live a satisfied and impactful life.

Conclusion: A Call to Surrender to Christ

My dear friends, if you want to live a life of meaning and true profit, the only way is through Jesus Christ. He is the source of all life, the one who empowers us to live righteously and impactfully. Maybe you’ve been struggling with sin or trying to live independently of God. Today is the day to stop striving in your own strength and surrender to Christ.

Jesus died to give you a profitable life—one filled with peace, dignity, and righteousness. The Holy Spirit is waiting to empower you, but first, you must give your life to Jesus.

Divine wisdom is not hidden or mysterious; it is clearly revealed in God’s Word. To be wise is to understand and apply God’s Word in every situation. When you live by the Word of God, you walk in wisdom.

The moment the Holy Spirit enters your life, He brings with Him the wisdom you need to face life’s challenges and achieve great things. Ordinary people can do extraordinary things when they are empowered by the wisdom of the Holy Spirit.

How Can You Receive This Wisdom?

Prayer – Wisdom comes when you seek it from God in prayer. James 1:5 reminds us that if we ask for wisdom, God will generously give it to us.
Meditating on God’s Word – Spending time in the Bible allows you to absorb the wisdom of God. Reflect on His teachings, and let them guide your decisions.
Listening to the Holy Spirit – The Holy Spirit speaks to us, guiding us with wisdom if we are willing to listen.
If you desire to walk in this divine wisdom and see God’s power in your life, the first step is to give your life to Christ. When you do, the Holy Spirit will fill you with the wisdom you need to live a life of victory and purpose. Today is the day to make that decision and experience the power of divine wisdom in your life.

It can manifest in various forms, such as physical strength, authority, wealth, knowledge, or influence. Power can be seen in interpersonal relationships, organizations, governments, and society at large.

God's power is often regarded as the ultimate, transcendent force in many religious and spiritual traditions. This power is viewed as infinite, omnipotent, and beyond human comprehension. It encompasses the creation, sustenance, and governance of the entire universe. Here are some aspects of God's ultimate power:

Omnipotence: God's power is all-encompassing, with the ability to do anything that is consistent with His nature. This includes creating the universe, performing miracles, and influencing the course of history.

Jeremiah 32:17: "Ah, Sovereign LORD, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you."

Revelation 19:6: "Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting: 'Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns.'"

Sovereignty: God's power is sovereign, meaning that He has absolute authority over everything. Nothing happens without His knowledge or permission, and He governs all creation according to His will.

Daniel 4:35: "All the peoples of the earth are regarded as nothing. He does as he pleases with the powers of heaven and the peoples of the earth. No one can hold back his hand or say to him: 'What have you done?'"

Psalm 115:3: "Our God is in heaven; he does whatever pleases him."

Eternality: Unlike human power, which is limited by time and circumstances, God's power is eternal. It exists outside the constraints of time and is unchanging.

Revelation 1:8: "'I am the Alpha and the Omega,' says the Lord God, 'who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.'"

Psalm 90:2: "Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God."

Infinite Wisdom: God's power is exercised with perfect wisdom and knowledge. He knows all things, and His decisions are always just, righteous, and for the ultimate good of His creation.

Romans 11:33: "Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!"

Isaiah 55:8-9: "'For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,' declares the LORD. 'As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.'"

Love and Mercy: God's power is not only about might but also about love, mercy, and compassion. His power is often demonstrated through acts of grace, forgiveness, and provision for His creation.

Ephesians 2:4-5: "But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved."

Psalm 103:8: "The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love."

Redemption and Salvation: In many faiths, God's ultimate power is seen in His ability to redeem and save. This is often expressed through the belief in divine intervention in human affairs, providing a path to spiritual salvation and eternal life.

John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

Isaiah 43:11: "I, even I, am the LORD, and apart from me there is no saviour."

Sustenance and Provision: God's power is believed to sustain all life. He provides for the needs of His creation, ensuring the continued existence and flourishing of life.

Philippians 4:19: "And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus."

Psalm 104:14-15: "He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for people to cultivate—bringing forth food from the earth: wine that gladdens human hearts, oil to make their faces shine, and bread that sustains their hearts."

"As the custodian of all power, God has graciously granted us the freedom to access and utilise His power."

Luke 24:49 (NIV): "I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high."

God, as the custodian of all power, has graciously granted us access to His divine power through the Holy Spirit. As emphasized in Acts 1:8, 'But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.' The Holy Spirit is the one who discharges this power, and receiving the Holy Spirit is your ultimate access to that power, as affirmed in Acts 2:38: 'Peter replied, “Repent and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Salvation is the number one key to receiving God's power. Through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ, we are forgiven of our sins and receive the Holy Spirit, who empowers us. 

Romans 10:9: "If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." This verse emphasises the importance of confessing faith in Jesus Christ and believing in His resurrection as the pathway to salvation.

To be empowered, you must position yourself for power, just as David was anointed and set apart by God. Psalm 89:20-24 shows how God empowered David by anointing him, sustaining him, and granting him victory over his enemies. When you set yourself up for God's purpose, He will empower you, protect you, and elevate you."

To be empowered, you must position yourself for power, just as Peter and John did through their relationship with Jesus. Acts 4:13 highlights that the religious leaders were astonished by the courage and boldness of Peter and John, recognising that these ordinary men had been transformed by being with Jesus. When you set yourself up for God's purpose, aligning with His presence and will, He empowers you beyond your natural abilities, making an extraordinary impact."

To be truly empowered by God, belief and faith are essential. In John 6:64, Jesus acknowledges that not all who follow Him truly believe, indicating that disbelief can be a barrier to accessing His power. To set yourself up for divine empowerment, it is crucial to fully commit in faith, as genuine belief is the foundation for receiving God's power and blessings."

Fear can undermine your empowerment. Romans 8:15 reminds us that the Spirit we receive from God frees us from fear and affirms our identity as His children. Similarly, 2 Timothy 1:7 highlights that God’s Spirit empowers us with power, love, and self-discipline, not timidity. In contrast, Job 3:24 reflects how fear and distress can weigh heavily on us, illustrating the need to overcome fear to fully access and utilise God’s empowerment."

It is not enough to be saved; we should continually strive to increase in power and dominion. Ephesians 1:19-20 reminds us of the 'incomparably great power' available to us who believe, which is the same power that raised Christ from the dead. 2 Peter 1:3 also highlights that God's divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of Him.

LEVELS OF POWER

You Acquire Power:
John 1:12 (NIV): "Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to  become children of God." At this level, you acquire power through salvation and the reception of the Holy Spirit. This power is granted as a fundamental right and is essential for living a Christian life and fulfilling God's purposes. It represents the initial endowment of divine power given to believers through their relationship with Christ and the Holy Spirit.

You Acquire Great Power:
Ephesians 1:19-20 (NIV): "His incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms. At this level, you acquire great power through a deeper relationship with God and a greater understanding of the divine authority and strength available to believers. This involves recognising and accessing the extraordinary power that is at work within us. This stage reflects a significant increase in the effectiveness and scope of the power you wield in God's kingdom.

You Acquire the Exceeding Greatness of Power:
Philippians 3:10 (NIV): "I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death." At this level, you acquire the exceeding greatness of power, which represents a profound experience of divine power that surpasses all previous levels. This includes a deep, personal understanding of the resurrection power of Christ. This stage involves a transformative relationship with God, where His power is fully manifested in and through our lives, enabling us to overcome and excel beyond normal expectations.

You Acquire the Powers of the World to Come:
Hebrews 6:5 (NIV): "Who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age. At this level, you acquire the powers of the world to come, which refers to the spiritual authority and capabilities associated with the age to come, or the eternal kingdom. Hebrews 6:5 speaks of experiencing the "powers of the coming age," reflecting a taste of the extraordinary, divine capabilities that will fully manifest in the future kingdom.

To be empowered, it is essential to be deeply conversant with the Word of God. Being well-versed in the Word of God is crucial for accessing and effectively utilising divine empowerment. Here are some key verses that emphasise the importance of knowing and applying Scripture:

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV): "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
Psalm 119:105 (NIV): "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path."
John 15:7 (NIV): "If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you."
Joshua 1:8 (NIV): "Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful."
In conclusion, To experience the ultimate power that God has made available, you must first establish a relationship with Him through Jesus Christ. This is the foundational step that unlocks the path to receiving and growing in divine power.

If you have not yet given your life to Christ, now is the perfect time to do so. Embrace the opportunity to partake in the ultimate power that God offers through salvation and the Holy Spirit.

“Alakada! Bad and Boujee” marks the fifth installment in the beloved “Alakada” film series, following the original “Alakada” in 2009, “Alakada 2” in 2013, “Alakada Reloaded” in 2017, and “Fate of Alakada: The Party Planner” in 2020.

In a time where Music is becoming a Universal language, the genre Afrobeats has not been one to take a backseat. The name Afrobeats is used to describe a pop music birthed in West Africa, a blend of traditional African rhythms, jazz, highlife, and funk. Afrobeats is a new generation sound pioneered in the early 2000s but has constantly been reinventing itself, however with its foot deeply rooted in the social and political scenery of Afrobeat developed by Nigerian legend, Fela Kuti in the early 60s. Over the years, Afrobeats has been affected by various people and sounds and has now become one of the most recognized sounds in the world. Music originating from Africa from the likes of Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, and many other artists has begun to gain roots worldwide.

Fela Kuti started singing this particular genre in a time of turmoil and turbulence and used his music as an awareness and frequently a snide to some of these political, social and religious leaders. The lyrics to his songs sounded warning to both leaders and followers and impacted the lives of so many individuals globally. Some of his songs like “International Thief Thief” and “Shuffering and Shmiling” addressed major socio-political issues and resonated with audiences far beyond Africa, reflecting a shared sentiment against bad governance. These songs established the foundation for a musical revolution that continues till today where music is used as a weapon against the silent tyranny of corruption and oppression.

In an interview with Abolanle born in the 80s and hails from Lagos Nigeria, she was asked if Afrobeats has had any significant effect on her perspective about social and political issues. She affirmed, noting how several Fela Kuti’s songs were an anthem in her house growing up. In her words, she said ‘When I was growing up, I remember how my Father played so many of his (Fela’s) songs and explained to I and my siblings how these songs were impacting a number of lives positively. Fela’s songs challenged the normal ways of living in his time and made all leaders both political, religious and social, take accountability for their actions. Even recently, when I listen to artists like Burna boy and Seun Kuti, I feel connected to the struggles faced by people across Africa. In my opinion, Afrobeats is more of a weapon than just a mere music.’

Just like Fela, Afrobeats artists have stood tall and unafraid of their stance when it comes to effecting a change or talking about major issues in their surroundings. In 2004, Nigerian artist Eedris Abdulkareem released a song titled ‘Jaga Jaga’ that served as a catalyst for social and political revolution at the time. The song talked about the increased rate of social vices and economic hardship faced particularly by the vulnerable in Nigeria as at that time putting him at logger heads with the then Nigerian president, Olusegun Obasanjo.

Reminiscing on the #EndSARS protests in 2020, the impact of Afrobeat went beyond mere entertainment to being a call to action. As young Nigerians took to the streets demanding change and justice for police brutality, their frustrations were expressed through music. Afrobeats artists like Burna boy, Wizkid, Davido, Tiwa Savage among others lent their voices to the movement with their lyrics serving as rallying cries, uniting protesters and inspiring hope. Burna boy, following the traumatic shooting event referred to as “Lekki Massacre” at the protest ground released a track titled “20 10 20” demanding that justice be ensured by the appropriate authorities.

With the popularity that Afrobeats has gained over the years, many artists from various regions of the world have begun to collaborate with many African artists further increasing its virality.
